What's with all the corrupted files in the games?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/03/09 8:19:53 AM
It's your computer, if you only had named 1 title, I would have said... ok it's the game but you've just named like 5 games. Which if you look at their forums, no one ever had corrupted files in the past 3 or 4 months. |

Come and spend the night in Providence. I'll make sure to make EVE fun for all of you. :)
care bear? You have seriously no idea what you are talking about if you think that EVE is for care bear... Perm deaths, perm loses and such... yeah right. Ever lost a faction ship to a pirate? I'll bite to be honest and defend EVE. EVE requires some patience, lots of planning and specially a lot of IQ. I admit that EVE has some boring moments and some downtimes compared to WOW but in EVE you can see fights breaking from 1v1 to 400 versus 400+

Why do most new Sandbox MMORPG (not Sci-F) seem to fail at the masses?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/02/09 3:56:09 PM
My theory on the matter... Not everyone is of the artistic type. In fact, while most dream of it, when placed in the situation, most people prefer to be the spectator instead of the actor. Most people prefer to have a playground like World of Warcraft, Aion and the likes instead of an empty planet with a bunch of tools to build their own content. Put 20 kids in a giant sandbox with all the tools to build whatever they want and don't say a word. Half of them will be bored to death, a few will seclude themselves in a corner and maybe 2 or 3 will start playing together and creating that amazing universe. Once their universe is created; a few others will join in the group. Put 20 kids in an amusement park with clowns cheering the same generic stuff and you'll see at least 15+ enjoying the day while a very small portion will be dying for this day to end.
The majority of the people are followers, not leaders or creators. Most grew up with a themed toys while only a few only had what they made as a toy. Either one, doesn't make you better then the other, it's simply a matter of perception.
EDIT: Got to agree that many "Sandbox" are not really that awesome... Darkfall being one of the worse I've seen in years. You have a certain freedom and yes it is a sandbox but it is a horrible sandbox. I still enjoyed it for the time being but eventually, I left and went back to older games. Open PVP doesn't mean Sandbox btw...

When they were full I'll go with these.
Neocron - Felt alive when it was full of players wandering around. Mos' in SWG was pretty nice when full of players Stormwind was pretty but it felt empty most of the time. However, when it was full of players, it was totally a nice city to hang out at. |

Been living in 0.0 for the last few years. I don't see what is going to change for myself really... I'll still be ratting, pvping, exploring and etc. The only difference is when my alliance decides to conquer a system and such, things will be playing out differently. Aside from that, 0.0 is still 0.0... 0.0 is not a PVP zone... PVP occurs mostly only around the borders and entry systems.

It's never too late to join EVE. The only difference between you and an old player like me is that I have more ships to fly. However, if you decide to concentrate on Interceptors, in about 2 months, you'll max out every skills for that ship. No matter how old I am, you'll be an equal match to me when we both fly interceptors. Now if you know your role as an interceptor pilot, you'll quickly become a well known PVPer in no time.
I've seen 3 year old players horribly dying at the hand of a 3 month old pilot.

NDA doesn't mean you can't say if it sucks or rocks.
NDA simply means specific terms.. Read the NDA guys hehe..
Is the game taking shape, yes or no. You're not breaking NDA by saying : yes it's getting along here... or no, it's far from being ready.

General: Fuller: How Do You Pick Your MMO?
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/22/09 10:52:26 AM
Graphics are important at some point but I much prefer a smooth gameplay then high end graphics. I like good animation and usually, mmos lack in these area. The content is important but I mostly look at the sandbox tools. Each mmo do provide an interesting set of “community” tools… crafting, housing, zone pvp and such… If the mmo is greatly lacking in these then I usually walk away to the next title. A game like “Ahem”; EVE provides an incredible amount of “community tools”. This means that if I want to be the top crafter, I need the top miners, pvper, traders and corps to help me out. In exchange, I can help them out and so on. SWG had it right. |

Have you actually took the time to fit your ship, join a group of 12 pilots and go out and have an amazing battle against other players? did you take a moment to get on Ventrilo and live the true stress behind a fight? (you can be a pvper on day 1 btw) Mining is not that much fun but did you take a moment to join an industrial corp and mine a night with them? It's quite fun to have 8 miners around, helping, chatting and such... mining alone is obviously boring. Exploration takes a bit of skills but before you get there, you can do cosmo, complexes, missions and the list just goes on and on.
The one thing you cannot do in EVE is solo play and expect things to be interesting forever.

Champions Online: Victor Wachter: Going Shardless
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/20/09 10:30:14 AM
Shardless??? there is no innovation there mate: - Makind Online - EVE-Online - Dune Generation (never went past beta)
That's just three examples right here... give me the day and I can probably pull out 5 more titles with a bit of googling.
It's a good article but come on guys... you're suppose to be pros here. |

Is this really the best year of MMOs EVER? Really???
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/20/09 10:20:54 AM
I think everyone is saying a bit of truth but it still all comes down to the staff of MMORPG not being very professional. What needs to happen is to have another MMO dedicated community site to launch and start posting serious content and taking some place. This will force MMORPG to unlazy their ass and start giving out valuable information. The mods do not even check these forums, no one is actively gathering some information and most articles are stolen from posters at times. It’s completely absurd but it seems to work… all this for the sheer reason that MMORPG has no direct competition really. Despite what I’m saying, I like his current staff… they just need to brush up! |

If you give 8.0 to every single games then how are your readers suppose to know when a really good game comes out? Look at Rottentomato.com, it's a site that seems to just hate every movies in the world. I mean, seriously, some of my favorit movies have awfull ratings on that site. However, when you suddenly see a 90% positive rating, it's often a really good movie. In the sense of cinema though, perhaps not in my tastes but still.

I'll be honest, the staff has went from Professional to amateur in the last few years. That's mostly what has been happening.
I don't dislike the current team but in my opinion, it's greatly lacking. I'm no journalist and I'm pretty sure none of these guys are paid so I don't really care but if wanted a reason, well here's one. Don't be surprise, the games have went from awesome to pill of trash in the last few years as well. |

My life on EVE… back in beta, I was a little pilot flying around, mining, scared of NPC rats and used to get pwned by drones roaming in belts. I later began to work to become a bounty hunter. By the time the game went retail, I was a little pirate. Not a good one but still a pirate. Eventually I left… and came back a few months later. At that point, I went on and lived in the Curse region and made tons of good friends. Joining a powerfull corp and fighting among some of the most ruthless pilots at the time. Eventually, life became too busy and I left again… =) I came back in 2005 and played for a few months. Things had changed and I made a new character in order to relearn the game. I had a blast doing missions and living in Empire space. I was a very carebearish player in that era. Left again due to life and came back… This time as my current character. Joined a small corp that was trying to become the next big thing but it simply never worked out. Left and joined another corp that was trying to start a business. We did good for a while and we were even supplying some important outposts deep into 0.0. However, the competition was fierce and someone hired mercs on our ass. Soon enough, we had to fight wars while struggling to make a living. Eventually, the little corp joined an alliance and we became a fighting force strong enough to fight back. Our corp nights had several activities such as mining, pvping in providence as blues, running complexes, cosmo, exploration, trades, Jita runs, escort, assault, POS work and the list goes on. My adventure didn’t finish there though… a few months later, I ended up in a great alliance and became a diplomate, security pilot and eventually a fleet commander when in need. Fighting 1 on 1, exploring worm holes, doing complexes and once in a while, fighting epic battles where thousands of players are fighting over the control of a territory. This is just the scratch of my own personnal adventures… I think most long term players have incredible stories. The best of all is that they all had an impact on the world of EVE. It's not a game for everyone, I think most EVE players were the type to play with Legos when they were young. Yeah… EVE is really the best game out there lol |

The Real Effect of Star Trek Online and Star Wars the Old Republic Online
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/16/09 8:55:46 AM
If anything, EVE will become even more stronger then now. STO or SWO will never have the depth of EVE unless CCP stops updating and adding to their game for a few years. Once people are bored of STO and SWO "wow clone" type of gameplay, they will want sci-fi with more depth. Many will take a moment to look at EVE. That's what happened when WOW came out... Like someone said: STO will be a niche game and SWO will be very mainstream. I doubt it will become the next big thing but only time will say. Right now SWO doesn't seem to bring anything really new to the table aside from a more sophisticated questing system, influence and such.
STO seems to be going in a great direction but the lack of information is keeping us in the dark. No opinion can really be formed at the moment. |

For what it's worth, AION is a great game in it's own right. Is it the best? Well, it depends on your own taste but overall, I am actually interested in trying it. |
