I rather played without my companion. He was more a nuisance than anything. The horrid AI had me micro him all the time and he detracted from my own epicness by just being there!

What game were you playing?  The AI was the closest to flawless I have ever seen for a pet system.

That was quite far from my experience. My pet *always* broke CC unless I turned that ability off (so I had to micro that ability basically, was a high dmg cleave type attack). After I initiated combat he generally took some 4secs to even start moving towards the fray. And to add insult to injury it usually took him quite long (not as long) to find a new target after his old had gone down. Flawless? Well, not really.

If you cc the companion autmatically changes target, even if he is in mid cast. Ive never had my companion break cc.

I pull by CCing. He still broke it. Every friggin' time. That's when I realized he wasn't really controlling his movements very well. First, I was like "YOU PULL IT YOU TANK IT NOOB!!" but that just lead to my companion dieing during every encounter:(

Hey!

Just a quick question, did anyone experience healing at higher levels? I only got my sorc to 25, but tried healing solo, in all flashpoints I could get my hands on, tons of WZs and by helping other players in their higher level personal quests. And basically it was very, very boring gameplay wise. I feel I was transported back to WoW Vanilla. The epic feel of dps:ing felt spot on, but it really feels right now like BW dropped the ball on healing. And I always play a healer... do I have to dps like the cool kids from now on?

So BW chose to kick off swtor endgame with some good old Molten Core?:P

I can tell you that I really didn't like the first two companions that Sith Inquisitor got. Hope it gets better, because I'd like to play sorc at endgame.

Tell that to the epic "Requires Light I" lightsabre I got this weekend. I agree with the fact that this system is poised to fail miserably. Right now you're forced to go all Light or all Dark, and that problem is exacerbated by the fact that you can actually see beforehand what alignment changes you get from a specific dialogue choice.

They need to add a neutral alignment as well: Dark, Light, Neutral. You could argue that there is a neutral now (being in the middle), but since you start at the height of neutrality (yet again, smack in the middle) there'd be no progression for those playing a neutral character.

A games journalist visiting Austin last week learned that you indeed will be able change ACs. However it will be discouraged by making it very expensive and a general hassle. So you won't do it often.

Yeah, I agree, swtor seems to be more alt friendly than other games in the genre. Still alot of the content is shared (not the exact same quests, but same areas and mobs) between classes of the same faction. Plus there are tons of players who are relatively unintrested in alts (myself included).

Hey there!

First off I'm not a swtor fanboy. Actually having played alot of MMOs over the years I've learned the hard way to be no one game's fanboy. Since I've always set myself up to be disappointed. That said I'm quite looking forward to swtor. My wife will start playing MMOs again (after quitting wow) with me and swtor and we plan to play with another couple that's also returning to the realm of MMOs come swtor.

However, no matter how much I enjoy the journey, I know that the absolute lion's share of my time spent in an MMO is spent on end game/max level content. And from what I've heard (I've only played low level stuff in swtor) the endgame is going to be pretty much a carbon copy of WoW's current endgame: raid, pvp or roll an alt. Fine. Yeah, I'm actually fine with that personally, since I've been raiding in WoW for close to seven years now (even though I've taken breaks while playing other MMOs). But very few of my friends are very intrested in that kind of gameplay and most of them ache for something new. Something that WoW: MoP tries hard to accomplish. In my opinion WoW:s upcoming exapansion is all about expanding the end game content (and a good thing too, since Cataclysm did nothing new for endgame but focused instead on revamping the level experience, see where that got them!). Basically I'm afraid, first off, that my friends will leave the game after having maxed one character (very few people I know playing MMOs are that into rolling alts, they more do it because the endgame is lacking than for any other reason) and, secondly, that many other players will return to, say, WoW once they realize that there's nothing new in SWTOR:s endgame (except for the SW fanboys, but honest to god, I don't know a single SW fan and I hang out exclusively with game nerds aged circa 30, that's Europe for you I guess).

So, do you guys think that Bioware is aware that the level up process only goes so far when it comes to player retention? Or do you think in a fit of hubris that they think that their superior level up experience (because I have no doubt it's going to be superior to other There Park games) will be enough to keep people playing the game for a long time? *Or* is there a chance that Bioware will actually try to change how we approach endgame content in MMOs and thereby attracting and keeping more hardcore non-alt-rolling players as well?

Now I Nowén what class not to play...
Granted, this was most likely an entry level encounter. And on easy/pug mode no doubt, so I should not be too hasty when it comes to passing judgement
They have a long way to reach wows standard of raids. And from the looks of it, that is what they are shooting at. I am thoroughly unimpressed, sadly.

I'm sorry, but Moses, smell the roses, this looks boring! Boss model feel very generic, his abilities feel like the come from a Molten Core boss and the healing, oh my god, the healing. Looks like a complete snorefest. Seeing as I consider myself a raider, at the moment, they really need to up their raid game if they want to bring the likes of me aboard.

PS I care about the Star Wars setting about as much as the Warcraft setting, so they'll be getting no free points from me.

EDIT: deleted, was off topic

Yeah, it looks a hell more fun than theif. Piry, I wanted to play thief:P Now it looks like I'll roll elementalist. I'm a turncoat indeed.

Tough question I think it will suit those best, who just are looking for a 1 - 3 month MMORPG and then move on, till the next patch is outthere. I mean, I have seen the late videos and was like wow (not the game!) finally a challenging level 1! boss? How cool is that and then they have shown this small dragon  kicking some asses quite good but overall I think the game will be lacking some motivation factor for more dedicated players.
Can only talk for myself but I am never satisfied with my character I want alternate abilities,  better and better gear via actually playing not  farming badges and the same instances over and over and some ways to set myself apart from the masses.
Since there are no healers and no raiding I doubt it could keep me occupied which is a shame, cause I had high hopes for this game, also the lack of  hardcore crafting wont increase the longtime motivation.
Anyway I think it will sell like hot meal.
to answer your question I think 1 and 4 are the obvious ones.
I am falling into 8 and 10 so yes its different, but for too different for my likings. Maybe still gonna buy if Tera doesnt change the publisher and AA wont be out.

I am not sure about the crafting, but dungeons will easily be as difficult as raids (ever play the dungeons in GW1 on hard mode. Hard.) and the gear you get will serve to differentiate people from one another. You will get different gear in dungeons than in dynamic events than in PvE.

GW2 will follow the basic mentality of GW1 in this way. Give players plenty to do, and plenty of very hard content to keep them occupied, and new skills to unlock, but they won't do anything that forces you to grind on a treadmill. GW1 had no grind but for titles, and those don't really do much (save a few that give very minor buffs).

There will be many ways to change how your abilities work, and new utility skills to unlock. They have said these can be acquired in all sorts of ways. So there will be plenty to find and make your build different from others.

Think about this. While it won't have a gear grind for the next best thing and slightly higher numbers, it will have maximum stat gear. This means that they can tool max-level content for max stat gear, and can therefore make encounter much more difficult, because they are not worried about a sliding scale of power.

Dedicated players will find a great deal to do, the only people left out in the cold are those who love raid ladder gear grinds. The game is designed for people who like actually playing and not farming.

I just disagree with you a lot about this one part. The hard mode in GW1 was extremely easy compared to other MMORPG experiences I've had. Really, there are three main things that made me always wonder how they could be labeled as hard.

1. I could clear hard modes with almost any pickup group I got.

2. I didn't require ventrillo or teamspeak to complete any of the hardmodes. This is really pretty amazing when compared to other MMORPGs.

3. I was able to start doing hard modes almost the second I hit max level (20 I think it was).

GW1 was a PvP centric game and that was the part I loved about it. I hope to God they don't carry over GW1 PvE into GW2 and from what I've seen, it doesn't look like they are going to.

This is what I worry about pretty much. Some people are saying the exploration mode will be hard, and I must say I very much doubt that. GW1 was not hard, especially not if you were used to hard pve from other mmos. To clear one exploration mode of a dungeon I'd like you to put down at least a couple of nights with the very same group makeup.  Otherwise it'll just be like a slightly harder WoW heroic dungeon, and that's just not real endgame challenge pve for me. The more I read about GW2 the more i realize I have to start hardcore pvp:ing again if I want to enjoy this game's endgame.

Thank you, Serelisk, for that ambitious writeup. On my cell now, so I cant read it as thoroughly as I wish to atm.

I think the OP mentioned it correctly in his post. Seems like GW2 is more of a game for casual and hardcore pvpers and casual pvers. Not sure if they have a good focus for hardcore pvers.

the problem here is that "hardcore PvE" seems to mean little more than raids and dungeon/gear grind.

I would hate to see GW2 turn into a niche MMO because they did not take pve raiding seriously. This is pretty damn possible considering what I am hearing. There are more gerbils in the world then some of you believe it seems.

I am a gerbil and proud of it!

I disagree that GW2 would have to go the route of raiding as the primary means to progress and compete in pve. But I do think I lot of players would like some kind of content that challanges them and lets them progress over time. And all this in a group play context. I love the idea of DEs as levelling up, but much like in Rift, I don't think they make for very good endgame content. I do however think that this is a non issue for ANet. They're not worried about player retention. Take me for example, I would love to play GW2 day and night, being in a hardcore pve guild working towards a common goal. This won't be in the game for me, thus I'll probably fool around in the game for a couple of weeks and then take a break til the next expansion come. I then promptly buy and continue playing again. They wouldn't get any more money out of me if I were online 24/7 trying to compete in pve content (which is expensive to produce), so why should they cater to the likes of me? But as I said earlier, DLC endgame content for raiding inclined players might work as a middle ground. And since ANet says they listen to the community, this might well come to be.

After reading more posts I would say this game is not for the OP or Puremalice.

Agreed. This game is really about lateral progression. Anyone who is stuck in the vertical achievement mindset will have a very tough time enjoying such a game.

There will be pleanty of endgame; but it will be running dungeons, unlocking achievements, finding new armor / weapon sets, pvping, and unlocking new skills.

There won't be any huge endgame raids that many are used to, the closest thing to this will be the giant dynamic event encounters. So, people who still enjoying the raid system that WoW, Rift, etc. has, they will probably find GW2's endgame hard to enjoy.

I don't care what exact end game you have, as long as you can be competetive in a group doing it. GW2:s pvp has this, is it outrageous to ask them to have it in pve as well? (yes, probably, because that'd mean they'd have to add new content very often, which I don't think quite works in a F2P game)

edit: DLC competetive group pve content would do the trick!
