Now that you've played it, do you still think 100% voice is a great idea?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/12/12 5:21:15 AM
The VOs were a complete waste of money in my opinion. A few VOs here and there for the intresting quests (not many of those) would've been fine. But most VOs really added nothing to the game. I really hope future MMOs stay away from the swtor way of doing quests. |

Thanks OP! This data will no doubt be intresting. |

Maybe it's been said but it's worth to mention that this game focuses very little on progression in BOTH pvp and pve. You can get upgrades in pve, but from what the devs have been saying it'll be pretty darn easy to get the best end game pve gear. So while you might have to spend like 2-3 weeks to get from 1 to max and best gear; after that you really only play for fun. Just like in pvp.
I think it's important that you approach GW2 knowing that it's not a game about progressing your character. Sure, going from level 1 to max will be about progression, but that will be a rather quick affair like in most modern games. Myself I'm on the fence here. On the one hand I like developing my character through gear once I've hit max level. On the other hand I know I suffer through very boring things to do so. And should I really waste time on boring gameplay just to get a slightly better character? |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Voice Acting Ups and Downs
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/12 2:37:33 PM
Personally I hope no other MMO has VO. I'm not dead set against it, but considering how much it costs I hope coming games instead focus on, like, you know, the game. And not the quasi interactive movie part of it. It's really jarring how run of the mill and plain swtor is considering the huge budget. Less VO in the future, please! |

Levelling is NOT fun. All it does is separate players. That's why I rush to endgame in these games. To play with friends. When we're all levelling up we never get to experience the game together. Give me an end game only game now! I'm fed up with this pointless levelling. The game starts at endgame, the journey starts at endgame. Levelling is just a painfully prolonged tutorial these days. |

I really like where this is going! The fact that all the focus is on the system is something I really like. I hope you succeed! |

Market Stagnation, Confusion, and Over-Saturation

I should add that this rings very true. Myself I'm a hardcore Wow player. But Ihave zero interest in games copying Wow. I want something new and fresh!

Very interesting. Thank you.

I'm a level 50 Sage (shameless quasi copypasta inc). Reason I unsubscribed is:
- PvP Gear Progression
- Ability/Skill Responsiveness
- Flashpoints being boring: I just really didn't like any of the FPs I tried. |

How SWTOR is being innovative among AAA MMOs
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/24/11 6:17:49 AM
Now, I like swtor but the OP is just full of it and if I didn't already play the game I'd wonder what dark secrets you're trying to hide with that epic smokescreen...

Having a blast most of the time now. Logged about 50h of gameplay so far. However with 90% certainty I won't pay for another month. There's near zero replayability and the endgame is a carbon copy of wow's, so I'd rather stay in wow where I know what I get (I do enjoy raiding in wow). Plus the classes are too simply in this game and I can't see myself really delving into class mechincs and get all nerdy in swtor. The money spent on the box will have been superbly extremely well spent though. I'm not disappointed, but I won't play past the 30 days.

"Taht said replayability when 50 pct of all u do is class qust releated being a bad part of tor is just mind boggling to me."
I really don't think consumers should be as easily bought as you. You're blindly buying into hype and you're setting yourself up to be very disappointed. I know what swtor will be for me going in. I have a more realistic take on this game. I will however still play it.
Class quests are not 50% of your questing. I guess you *hope* it's 50% of questing, but it's closer to 10%. This is a fact. And as you mentioned Cataclysm has very many different leveling paths. Guess what, swtor is competeing with Cataclysm and not Vanilla WoW. So even you then should have to conclude that WoW Cataclysm has more replayability than swtor? |

Originally posted by jerlot65 The problem is that, yes, there's alot of endgame content for those who enjoy wow-like endgame content (I'm raiding in wow, so I guess I fall in that category). Not everyone enjoys this however. And it's from this latter camp I've heard the "swtor's greatness is in its playability" meme from. |

There seems to be two quite different ways of looking at replayability. For me replayability lies in the chance to see new areas when levelling a new character. For some replayability lies in the chance to make new choices in old dialogues. Now, I've been enamored with Bioware for quite some time (until the disappointments that were ME2 and DA2), but I've never once played any of their games more than once. God knows I've tried! But when replayability is mainly in a chance to choose different (and to be fair, your choices don't really have an outcome in swtor as opposed to their SPRPGs) I simply won't give said game another chance.
That said, me personally, I'm not all that intrested in alt:ing. I posed the question simply because the replayability of swtor has been hyped so much and I couldn't see why. Someone compared it to AoC and Rift, two MMOs with very low replay value, and I think that was an astute observation. I will play swtor to max. At max level it'll be a carbon copy of WoW's endgame. If they manage to pull that off and make it better than Blizzard I'll probably stay. But all that money plowed into slightly different storylines won't be experienced by me.
PS I'm not saying the game sucks, I'm going to play it for chrissakes. So, (some) fanboys, please refrain from being rude! |

Have to agree with the people saying swtor is among the worst games for RP. Bioware decides who you are in this game! How is that RP? Now, I'm no avid RPer myself, but sometimes I do like to come up with who I am in the more sandboxy theme park games. In swtor I'm just along for the ride. |

Originally posted by CazNeerg I'm not going debate the truthfulness of your chosen figures and numbers. But let's say for argument's sake that you're correct. In WoW you play 2 chars and see basically 100% of the content. One char experience on half, the other one the other half. During these two playthroughs you thus had very little overlapping content, however after being done you're now "done" with the pre-endgame of this MMO.
In SWTOR instead, every playthrough is exactly the same, apart from 5% that completely new. Yes it will take you many, many more playthroughs to get to 100% of the content, but that's just an effect of every playthrough introducing so little new content.
In my eyes the first alternative is the better one. |

On the first playthrough I'd agree with you that it didn't feel like a grind at. And it was quite refreshing. In contrast my second playthrough on the same faction felt really grindy, and I kept catching myself counting how many pixels of xp I got from every mob and every quest turn in. And I'm not usually like that! |

World of Warcraft and Vanguard has better replayabilty, to name two completely un-alike theme park games. And by replayabilty I mean playing the same game all over but doing different content the other time around. Not the same thing but with different flavor text/VO.
For me I think swtor's extreme linearity is the culprit. In other games I can choose myself what areas/planets I want to level in. Or at least what quest hubs I want to do in what order. Not all other games, but the games I like, at least. |
