Michael Moorcock, the great author (creator of Elric of Melniboné, and many other fantastic characters), invented the term Multiverse back in the 60s and has been using it extensively in virtually all his books since. I wonder why these guys fail to mention that at least.

Vanguard is getting ready to celebrate it's first anniversary

"it's first"?

When will MMORPG.com learn some English grammar? On each and every article on this website there are so many grammatical mistakes. I have commented about it several times in the past, but nothing has changed. What a shame!

Is your life so underwhelming that you have to nit-pick stupid trivial points like that?  What a shame!

These are not "stupid trivial points". I don't see these kind of mistakes on GameSpot or on GameSpy or on any other respectable game site. It reflects very badly on MMORPG.com.

"Ultima Online is celebrating it's diamond anniversary"

I think you're in need of a proofreader, as your articles are rife with spelling mistakes.

All of a sudden my rank on the site is down to 2/100. I've been a long time member and have reviewed and hyped many games. Now I cannot even edit my old reviews, let alone post new ones!

What is going on?!

It's Nazgûl and not Nasgul.

It's Middle-earth and not Middle-Earth.

It's The Lord of the Rings Online and not just Lord of the Rings Online.

MMORPG.COM, please proofread your articles and newsletters. They frequently contain grammar mistakes and other typos and misspellings; these do not reflect well on you.

Well in SWG you could sit on a chair. Also in UO. Guild meetings were so much more fun, sitting around a long table (UO) on the roof of our guild tower, or sitting on chairs in the guild hall (SWG) with the guild leaders higher and on beautifully carved chairs. In VG all you can do is stand. That hurts the roleplaying aspect and the fun. I hope they add chairs and sitting possibilities to VG.

omg, did you check out the emotes in VG??? Try /listcommands emote ..... you can play dead, spit, vomit, smell your pits, rudegesture etc. Now I didn't try sitting on a chair, but there are a lot of RP emotes in VG.

Yes, I did check them tonight while waiting for the tele-tag event (I fell asleep before it started, if it ever started, as I'm from Europe, though I did get a chance to fly a griffon in the morning just before the end of beta; it was awesome). It was funny, I was standing in front of that other guy and we just started checking all of the emotes without exchanging any word. And yes, I was impressed with the number of them. He tried to /duck just before I /slap etc. Was quite entertaining. Then I dueled him (I was a level 30 paladin and he a level 35 warrior) and to my surprise I defeated him. He told me he hadn't practiced the character as he was buffed to that level but then again I was also buffed from level 1 to 30 by a buff master  Still, interacting with chairs in the game is something else than emotes, and is harder to implement; I hope they do so sometime soon.

Does VG have factional territory control? If not, then I would say it is not a sandbox MMORPG.

Yep. It sure does. Here is a post from a dev regarding factions and who hates who:

This is not factional territory control. It's just factions. Can, for example, Tursh village conquer the city of Khal? No. That's what busdriver meant when he said "factional territory control".

Lord of the rings was written in 1937 and Conan was written in 1932. Tolkien was a big fan of Conan, but his book was influenced by  the events of World War II and fable folklores like Beowulf, King Authur, etc and mythologies like Norse and Christianity. His ideas of hobbits came from a goblin monster who had similar name, but was evil.

Just a correction - it's The Hobbit that was published in 1937, not The Lord of the Rings.

Hello all, I wish to ask a simple question as im going to make a decision on what game to play for the next few years real soon.  Theres vanguard, which ive been following for years, and this one.  I like some of what i see in Lord of the Rings Online but im not sure if theres anything that really makes me want to play it.  Is there something that lotr will do that vanguard wont? I hear that lotr has farming, and i dont know why but that seems really cool to me. I mean like growing crops that is :) not "farming" like we know it.  I know this seems like a attempt at a flame fest but im honestly asking.  Thanks for any info!

P.S. I know that SOE is involved, i dont care :p

whats lotr have that vanguard dont, honestly asking!!

Only the greatest story and world ever written about, The basis of all modern medieval fantasy.

The basis? That is not true. Very untrue actually. A common misconception.

The Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Eddison, a pure fantasy novel, was published in 1922. Tolkien admired the book and was influenced by it. The Conan stories were written during the 1920s, over 30 years BEFORE The Lord of the Rings. Lord Dunsany wrote fantasy before Tolkien even started thinking up his Middle-earth. The Gormenghast trilogy by Marvin Peake predated Tolkien's. The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson was published a bit before The Lord of the Rings. Michael Moorcock's books would have been exactly the same even if Tolkien didn't exist.

Some more authors that wrote fantast prior to Tolkien: George Macdonald, Arthur Machen, Andrew Lang, James Branch Cabell. And there are tons more.

Now, about LotrO - it's a great MMO. Kudos to Turbine. Vanguard? Ambitious MMO, extremely unpolished,  that is destined to fail miserably.

Just a small comment about the review: you cannot really say "lag is pretty good". You can say "latency is pretty good". Lag is always bad
