Read the Tera review on this site ..especially the part about the community. Good stuff within...

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/477/view/reviews/load/202

I been playing the game since release and never would have had any interest in it whatsoever cept a friend bought it for me for building him a 2000 dollar gaming rig and although the quests are lame....everything else is simply amazing and to think it slipped in under the radar pretty much without any hype whatsoever and I'm having a blast with the community and grouping and only in my early 20's so far. Amazing graphics and although the controls at first feel wonky as hell it doesn't take very long to get used to them and the UI is fully customizable and once you gae everything set up just right it gaming bliss!

Ok first off, what the hell does DRM stand for?

I hate acronyms

It's called linear quest progression. Every1 are doing the same quests with no other options. Welcome to Wow, opps i mean Tera.

What game doesn't have Linear progression? Show me a theme park game where eventually you don't run into the same type of kill quest twice in a row.  I had already played GW2 and I literally had to do the exact same quests on my Norn Necromancer then I did on my Mesmer, with the exception of the Story missions.  No there wasn't a different path I could take, the zone had the exact same quests and dynamic events for both my characters.  Keep in mind that I'm not complaing about GW2's questing system, I like it.  But I'm just warning people that love the taste of Kool-Aid and believe the hype that GW2's questing is going let you do whatever you want without having to kill stuff or repeat quests, then you are sadly mistaken.

If you don't want a Linear questing experience then STOP PLAYING THEME PARK MMOs.

The difference in Tera is that when  you role a different class, the combat mechanics drastically changes so even if you are doing the same quests, the gameplay is a completely different experience.

Wow's quests are actually more interesting than Tera. At least they offer some interesting mechanic during quests instead of just kill 10 of X or BAM. Tera's questing is like kill 10 solo or group, watever. Really? its 2012 now, thats all you can do for quests?

Tell me a game that gameplay is the same between 2 different classes. It's just a ridiculous reason to back up Tera's quest system.

Only problem with WoW is after they massacred and dumbed down the game so much you can strip down completly naked and throw your weapon away and fight bare handed and still not get killed by basic world monsters while doing said quests. Lame to the point I will never play WoW ever again. No challenge whatsoever.

60 bucks?? OMG!

Anyone have a guest pass. I'd love to check this out before I plop down that kind of money :(

OUCH

Sorry but them Pegasus portal is freakin awesome....reminds me of AC2's portal (sliders)system of moving about the world. Please for the love of god do not EVER remove this from TERA. I know it might sound lame but this is one of my main selling points of the game!

:)~

Sounds more like you want to pk without any penalty at all over what they got now, which is not being hardcore, to me that is pretty carebearish, since you have no fear of dieing or killing in pvp at all period. Even with this system  they have now i would not mind ffa loting as much as i used to in gaming, since when i get pked or i pk i actually lose somthign for my actions.

I said i think there should be a penalty but just because you kill ONE.....ONE person you have to go spend 3 to 4 hours or more trying to remove the penalty? Killing mobs and gaining no xp.

Yeah i said it was carebear because thats what it is. It's such a harsh penalty anybody would be stupid to kill anybody. That would be fine for games like WOW an GW and such but for L2 its a bit extreme. I played it for a couple of years when it first came out and this new penalty is carebear.

And you think its carebear for a game to have ffa killing with no penalty> Really? FFA killing is carebear to you?? LMAO!!

I have to agree here. You should be able to kill at least maybe 5 people before you are penalized to that extreme and maybe have 1 kill work it's self off each day or something . It would be so cool to save those kills up to whack people who deserve it or those who are being an asshat! Think about it. Even 3 people would be ok. I know if you can goad someone to attack you back after you hit them then they are fair game. So I guess you could run around nekkid or somethin to make people think you are low lvl since they can't see your lvl?

The new tutorial zone and the easy exp quests from level 1 - 75 really doesn't do the game justice at all. Neither does the new PK system which essentially creates a newbie "safe zone" since low level characters won't dare to PK and have to deal with the increased penalty.

Lineage 2 back in the earlier Chronicles (c1 c2 c3) gave me that sense of accomplishment like games such as Demon or Dark Souls does for many people because it was much more challenging.

Before you pretty much started with the clothes on your back, no free equipments handed to you, you had to earn every adena to buy the gear you needed, and also there wasn't enough SP to learn every skill so you had to choose carefully. Higher grade gear had to be crafted from gathering lots of different materials all over the game world.

No free buffs, so either you just stuck with your own self buffs (if you had any), look for someone and ask for buffs (might cost ya), or buy some items that gave you small buffs.

Lack of good equip and buffs means mobs were much tougher than they are now, so it was actually challenging. You had to do various quests to earn enough adena, and class change quests were much longer and some were chain quests.

On top of all this there would be regular PvP/Pks even at low lvl so you had to watch your back.

Everything I've listed above is pretty much gone from the level 1- 75 experience now as they spoon-feed you everything you need to lvl up faster to focus on their late-end game "awakening" experience, so it isn't surprising that lower levels feel so dull, generic, no sense of accomplishment (which I feel so too atm).

If you really wanna give Lineage 2 a go I'd say at least get a char to 76+ since the game's focus is on later level contents.

Question: How is the gameplay after lvl 70 nowdays? Did they ruin that as well or is it worth playing to the endgame lvls in L2? I always wanted to be able to participate in all that cool looking stuff I saw and drooled over in the videos I watched from the early days. Please tell me that they at least kept the castle seiges and territory wars for endgame and that people get involved in all that on a mass scale as it was intended or am I just wasting my time trying to lvl up ASAP to see?

Op, I think the problem is that you are not seeing the forest from the trees.

The game has traditional grind mechanics and the "themepark" mechanics are a new thing as it never had this component.

what you are missing is being part of an active clan and taking part in the world.Being part of the politics or just being "the bad guys" or "the good guys". Or something in between.

Or, being a pk'er and trying to harass players. or...

learning the economy and being a crafter and selling mats and making money,... or

well, anything you want.

This game is about player interaction. All this leveling stuff is necessary but it's not "the game". It's essentially method of getting you out into the world, gaining power while you find your way in the world.

So tell us what you want to do in this world and we will give you advice on how to start.

Now its been many years since I played, but much of what you're speaking about above as being the fun stuff really only comes into its own at the upper levels, and back in the day it was a long, long grind to get to those upper levels.

They say it's improved some, but how much really?

Well I played L2 back in BETA and a few months after and the grind was horrible. After reading about the new changes and less grind I was very excited to try it ont again. I never could get high enough lvl to participate in the endgame "fun" stuff and always was wishing and hoping they would eventually make this game easier to lvl. Well they finally did it but I'm thinking they might have "overdid it. From what I have learned from talking to fellow players the game has lost a lot of it's complexity now. Crafting is pretty much useless from what I have heard. Still dunno about the endgame yet only been playing a week or 2 but I'm already lvl 34ish and that is higher than I ever got in months of playing from the early days. Guess time will tell but so far , at least for me there is just something about the game that I find calling me to play more and more. Can't quite put my finger on what it is but so far I am liking it more and more. I am in a really good clan and that helps a lot. Guess time will tell if the fun continues.....Keeping my fingers crossed....

You know, in all these years, i have never heard anyone mention what it is exactly that draws them to this game.  Why Lineage2?  Ok i get it, its graphics where top notch at launch.  But why now?  What does this game do well...why the draw why do you like it.

What does lineage 2 do diffrently or better than other games, why play it over others.

Help me understand WHY?

1st: The political system and the world.

I really like the way is implemented here and interfer with my gameplay. When i go to some hunting zone for quest or only grind i have to deal with other players. They interfer with my experience, sometimes in a bad way, other in a good way. Sometimes i cant even do my quest, or even get a grinding spot. For some ppl this could be a gamebreaker, but it isnt for me, its the result of having a world where relations with other players matters.

2nd: PK/PvP with rules.

Yes, L2 is FFA pvp but have some rules so we dont find random PK's around, in last 3 months i was killed 1 time for a random PK. Normally when someone go for PK or PVP it as a motive, normally related on my 1st point.

3rd: I dont mind grinding

Yes its true, i dont mind grinding in L2. I like to kill stuff so i dont mind do it, and if im bored i just stop and go do other things or stop playing. Never had hurry to reach next level, just trying to enjoy the hunting zone im in and the company of other players  if im in group. Normally i dont like grinding in others games i have be playing and questing is start to be even more boring for me then the pure grinding.

4rd: Its F2P now and no need of the CS.

I dont play it because is F2P but i need to mentioned this:

I play it as F2P now and i dont need nothing from CS and still enjoy all the game without any restrictions.

But im allways ready to try other games, so if someone know other game with the 1st and 2nd point with fantasy theme and top quality animations (yes, i need this) i will try it.

Edit: I didnt mentioned Territory wars and Sieges because i dont participate in that yet, i will start that at my lvl 86 (im 85 atm).

I must admit after having no interest in playing but trying the open beta last weekend, TERA has got me very interested and has some really great potential here and also the graphics in TERA has got to be the best I have yet seen in a game!

Why bother with L2 when you can play Aion for free is beyond me.

It is a much better game with alot better features.

just my 2 cents :P

This just shows that you have no idea what Lineage 2 is about. The games are totally different in every way possible.

s/are/have been/

L2 has been changed to Aion, for all I know. Class diversity removed and getting the exact same 8 classes as those from Aion.

So yeah, personally I have no motive to play L2 anymore. I consider Aion a dumbed down Lineage and I dont want to play that.

Uhhh 8 classes?? not anymore here is the class trees for each race available and there is a TON of them! and don't ask me how you get them all cause right now I feel like a total nooblet and it is a great feeling and one I havent had in a very long time...

Maybe it is this feeling that is addicting me to the game as most every game I have played the last 5 yrs or so has all pretty much been exactly the same only with differnt graphics and/or art direction. Gameplay being the same

http://wolfem.atspace.com/human.htm

Well I guess I must add my 2 cents worth... Been playing L2 again for a couple of weeks now and I am amazed that I am already lvl 34!

This game is not even the same game as it was when I last played it over 4-5 yrs ago. They really took away the grind and the lvl cap is now 99. The starting area as well as all the towns I have re-visited are totally different. I'm sure the grind will kick in eventually but so far I have gained a lvl with each quest I have done so far. They even added an auction house! Used to it took forever to lvl up and when you died you could actually lose your levels. When last I played I thought I'd check out the Player killing aspect of the game and before I knew what was going on I was labeled a murderer and could not even go to any towns lest I be hunted down like a hydrophobic dog and went from lvl 30ish all the way down to like lvl 10 before I finally gave up and uninstalled!

You can still lose xp but you won't lose lvls now and the player kill aspect of the game is still pretty harsh...you have to grind mobs to reduce your pk points and there are people around whose sole purpose is to kill anyone and everyone they can simply for the enjoyment of it.

The sad part is that they did a great thing removing the hellish grind that was in the old L2 but I gotta say even though there still is a great game here it used to have a lot more substance than it does now in it's current state. Crafting is pretty much useless since you can get free gear after lvl 40 and you can hit lvl 40+ pretty quickly now. I am already lvl 34 and I only have played a couple of weekends and only 3-4 hrs after work before bedtime about every other evening through like 3 weeks. There is an excellent guide on our clans website that pretty much narrows down exactly what you need to do and what you want to NOT do to maximize the lvling process...Can't wait to get involved with the politics and castle sieges, wars and clan vs clan aspects of the game. I actually am becoming quite addicted to the new L2 and I don't really know why... weird, ..I just can't explain it...I am starting to kinda figure out the economy and there is actually a lot of intricacies to it (is that even a word? lol.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guess I could post some of the guide from our clan site just to give those interested in lvling up an idea of how it has been simplified.....

Let me start by reminding everyone below level 40 to get Blessing of Protection along with your buffs. It will keep you safe from PKers, as there are many people like the idea to Pk in the low level areas.

So now you're level 20 and leaving for the continent, first stop-Gludio. Upon arriving to Gludio you need to report to Gludio Captain Bathis. He will have a few quests available for you, SKIP THE MUTATED KANEUS QUEST YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE IT.

Instead take a quest to the Windmill Hill. Don't forget to get buffs and Blessing of Protection from Newby Helper. Teleport to Windmill Hill, collect quest Items by hunting mobs that are needed. After you complete that quest you will be appointed back to Gludio and you will need to take the first part of Sakum quest. It's actually a chain of quests that will take you up to level 41.

First part of the quest is in Ruins of Agony(RoA). You will hunt mobs again and once you kill enough to complete the quest you will see a Guard NPC in the middle of the RoA. If at that point you've reached level 27 you will be able to take the second part of RoA quest, if not just keep leveling up in RoA untill you reach 27.

Second part of RoA quest is really simple, you need to kill a quest monster that is right near the entrance to the ruins. Kill it and submit the quest back to the guard NPC, he will now send you back to Gludio to take on the next stage of Sakum quest.

You will be going to Ruins of Dispair(RoD). This part is very similar to the RoA quest except it has 3 stages instead of 2. First you will hunt mobs inside the ruins walls, when you kill enough, quest will lead you to the Cabin up on the hill outside the RoD. If you're already level 32 you will be able to take the quest further, if not just hunt the mubs around the cabin and you will be 32 in no time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is about where I'm at right now and I would say around 20 hrs into the game from a newly created Warrior class char. Thanks to our Clan Leader for this most excellent lvling guide!!!

Was just wondering if someone could explain to me what the difference is really between an nvidea card and a Radeon card is. I know Nvidea used to be the leader in performance but from what I understand Radeon has now reined supreme. Why is this true? I have a friend that is a raging GeForce fanboy and I have been trying to convince him he should go for an ATI card in his new computer but even though I know it's true I cannot find the words to convince him? Can someone enlighten me? Quizzical?

WoW, I just watched this video all the way through and man, If they even added half of what is shown in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JosNJFscKH8

Aion would be incredible game indeed!

What I want to know is how they made this video in the first place because it indeed does look like actual gameplayb but obviously it is not. Hmmmmmmm....

Well someone told me thier were only studios right now and not actual houses. I guess that's like an apartment or something?

Been playing my old chars for about a week now off and on and havent actually seen much change. Talked in chat last night and was told housing isn't even in the game yet and mounts? Havent seen any and no one seems to know how or where to obtain one. heard they were like 12 million adena?

So if anyone actually knows what has really been added to the game as it is right now please enlighten me or has NCSOFT merely yet once again lied to thier players like they did back when the 3.0 vision trailer was shown back in 2008 or whenever this video was unveiled?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JosNJFscKH8   <<

Has anything from this trailer been added to the game at all for the 3.0 patch? Or is it just more bullcrap?

Virtual reality exists since the 80s, or maybe even earlier - you only need to get the (expensive) hardware for it.

Also, moore's law (computers double in power every 2 years or so) no longer applies, since we have hit the physical frontiers for this development. Thus the speed increase of computers has massively slowed down.

I never said virtual reality didn't exist. I mentioned that by then, with the blessings of the thunder gods, we could have popular virtual reality.

I think we're already in an early phase of "popularized" VR, and I hope to see it continue with more fleshed out features as it progresses.

We have the rising popularity of motion control with the Wii and the Xbox 360 Kinetic, we have BIG advances in home-use 3D technology, and touch screens are hopefully going to become more popular and more affordable.

I think it's a matter of just a few more years before we see more integration into these mediums, and hopefully some impressive crossovers, too.

Sorry but in my opinion the Wii and the Kenect (or whatever it's called) is not even a video game system it is nothing more than a "gimmick" and there is no way in hell I will ever play something that requires me to jump around in front of my television like an idiot. And if I did I would definetly pull down the shades and turn off the lights and pray to god no one ever finds out I played the damn thing...I would be so embarassed to even admit it.

Like everything else in the world will evolve over time and improve, so will MMO.

That's what I thought back in 2001 ish and look at what we got now. Devolved is more like it, graphics have improved tremendously but for some reason gameplay has not. Gone is any sort of depth like we had back in the old days. Even single player RPG's don't come near the depth that they once had. And I must agree with above reply that EVE Online is prob the last true game that has retained that depth. Even though I can never play EVE more than 2 or three months at a time I always seem to return 2-3 times a year and have since 2004. EVE is a game that can be what you want it to be provided you put into it what you want . Very surreal, I find myself imagining such complexities that would be possible out in the far reaches of the universe as I play. Very mental environment. BUt so many people that are used to todays sub-standard gameplay fails to realize the possibilities that EVE has to offer because of thier lack of social and communicative skills that EVE requires. In-game chat in todays MMO's is becoming almost non-existant. Being social and actually chatting with fellow pilots in EvE is a must for players to realize what is possible in EVE. Those who "get it" and seek knowledge and are not afraid to communicate with fellow players and have patience will be treated to a mind boggling experience within the sandbox that is EVE Online!

Watch the video >> http://trial.eveonline.com/en/freetrial.aspx?aid=%25paid=!;

No other game today even comes close to this kind of depth!

was assured there would not be a restocking fee
