I guess some games have that magic that keeps you coming back for more, while with other games you feel like you've finished them once you hit max level.

Anyone else with max level characters having this same problem?

All I can say...Patch 1.4 next week

Cheers

Patch 1.04 has DX10 which is good but doesn't do anything for me because I have Windows Xp and I find even DX9 graphics very good. DX10 -> still boring.

Then it has 1 group instance and 1 solo instance. Those can be done in a couple of hours.

What else does 1.04 have? Nothing significant so I doubt patch 1.04 will make me want to continue my subscription.

Just talked with my friend on Skype. Seems like we and about 30 of our guildies are quiting AoC and moving to EVE.

You forgot about, Wing 3 and pvp-resoruces ? oh and the new lvl 46 dungeon for your alts.

Nop, not having any problems.

Just wait for the new patch, 2 new lvl 80dungeons, 1 new lvl 46 dungeon, Wing 3 and pvp-resources !

You will have alot to do after the new patch !

Not yet, re making the item stats more important.  This is scheduled to arrive in patch 1.05.  The next patch due is 1.04, which should be hitting the live servers.

As for the look, well, there is a bit more variety, but it's slow in coming.  To get most of the interesting or different armour skins you need to go to an area with elite mobs for the most part, so many of the nice skins are hard to get for solo players.  If you like group play, however, there is a reasonable degree of variety.

That said, there are now recipes in the game allowing more interesting pieces of armour to be made, but these will generally be costly as the raw materials used to make them aren't cheap.

This refers to both the "city" and "culture" armours, by the way.

As an aside, if you have light or medium armour, there seems to be less variety in the look that a solo player can lay their hands on, which is kinda unfortunate for barbs, rangers and priests.  However, at low levels, there are the "Nemedian" and "Vanir" items (all green) which can offer a little variety.

If itemisation is what matters to you, then the best time for you to come back might be around patch 1.05 when the items (and system as a whole) are getting an overhaul.  If you do decide to come back, I'd also suggest that., to get the more interesting loot, you need to team up with others and enter the instanced dungeons.

You forgot the pvp-gear  really nice looking gear.

I have been considering resubbing to check it out again.  Not sure though.

Not true (at least not anymore), there are quite a few voice overs after Tortage, far from all but at least some.

But who cares? Most MMOs don't have them at all, or just let them say a few words when you click the npc but nothing of the story.

AoCs bad thing is that it needs a lot more content, not more voice overs.

If you whant more content you should check the new patch, 2 new lvl 80 dungeons, 1 lvl 46 dungeon, Wing 3, PvP-resources and alot more.

More content <---- on the way.

Was reading this interesting thread about broken raids and saw a poster giving one of the Funcom designers tips on how to code for their game.  forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

hmm just my take on that thread but I think they were really trying to get the DX10 in the next patch and are just having problems with getting the performance up to par.

Perhaps they should have considered having a couple of smaller patches along the way for bug fixes etc, except people would have still bitched because the DX10 wasn't in the patchs. One of those stuck between a rock and a hard place decisions. I suppose they could just try being honest with the customers and tell them the DX10 still is not optimized well enough to release.

Yes, they have already sad that DX10 is not 100% finished to hit live. They seem to have problems with certain hardware configurations.  They want to fix this before launching DX10 to live so that everyone can play with DX10.

And they even sad long time ago that they will probably, hold back DX10 a few more weeks and launch the rest of 1.04. So yes they are Honest.

You would know this if you read the AOC forums and the TL forums.

And if you check the thread that the OP posted you will see that both a Dev and the GD has posted in it. They are listening to the community.

Posting and listening are two seperate things. Time will tell.

I think some people are missing the point that the OP was trying to mkae. They seem to be holding back certain fixes for problems that have beenaround for some time. Whty? I doubt the same team that is working on DX-10 is working on other bug fixes so why not patch it?. Again as I said before FC doesnt hold a monopoly on this thinking but it just happens to be the company dicussed here.

We all know they are capable of making small patches because they had to do it for some time just to get some basic things patched into the game after their far too early release.

As i sad before, learn to read and you will know.

Read again in the Thread what the Dev and GD sad. You can also read the TL forum. And on page 4 in the thread a guy posted a link, read it also.

If only people would read before they come here and post. oh well.

"try being honest with customers" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a side note it seems the AoC community agrees with the OP.

No the AOC community does not agree with the OP, some agree and some dont agree.

And yes they are being honest. You would know this if you learn to read AOC forums and TL forums, thats if you play the game.

Well it seems with next patch Wing 3 will be open.

Quick update on the updates
We will have a scheduled downtime next week to do server maintenance. This downtime will be announced on the forums and launchers as soon as we have more information early next week.

We also want to note that the testing and polishing of Update 1.4 is looking very promising so we are quite confident that we should be able to deploy this one to the live servers the week after. This will be the update that contains the new high level dungeons Xibaluku and Slaughterhouse Cellar as well as the level 43 dungeon 'Cradle of Decay' and the Wing 3 of the Black Ring Citadel raid dungeon. Along with a lot of additional fixes and updates. More details about this will follow very soon too.

Thats some nice news.
Now hopefully Patch 1.04 wont be postponed :)
Iam looking forward to some other features we are getting there.

Really Awesome news !!!

So the new patch will have alot of new high end content, 2 new 80 dungeons, pvp-resources and Wing 3 !

After this patch people cant complain anymore that there isn't anything to do at lvl 80.

I've played this game the very first month and due to many reasons i've stopped my subscription :

- Lack of content

- too much instancing and loading  "alpha beta tetra gamma zones"

- Not having the feeling to play a MMORPG but kinda linear semi directed game. Can't choose your way by climbing the mountains but you have to follow the designed/determinated way to reach it. (Conarch Valey for example).

- PvP was pointless, no rewards, no challenges ... players asking to kill them to rez at an another point ...

------------------------------------------------------------------

I've always had an eye on this game  because i can't find anything better anyway ...

So that's my question :

HOW THE GAME HAS EVOLVED ?

HOW IS THE GAME NOW ? Skill based or Gear/stuff based ?

HOW IS THE PVP ? is there some siege battle or Pvp is still worthless ?

Well AOC has improved ALOT since launch in many ways.

First they have fixed pretty much all bugs, performence is great ( no more memory leaks / lagg spikes .

They have added alot of new stuff for exampel, many new quests, a hole new zone Ymir's pass lvl 55-65, revamped many dungeons, added pvp-lvls, pvp-system, pvp-gear, new items, revamped proffesions, added culture armor and alot more.

Well it is most skill based, you get 20% from gear. But they are going to launch itemization soon. Then gear will give you 40% i think.

Yes there is alot of seige battles all the time, alot more now since they merged servers. No PVP is not worthless, first you have pvp lvls, 1-5 you kill people and get XP and you gain lvls. After every lvl you can buy different pvp-gear. They have also added pvp-system so if you kill low lvl players you will get murder points (penalty), if you then continue to kill low lvl players you will become a murderer. A outcast from the normal society. You wont be abel to enter citys becaus guards will attack you, you will have your own murderer camps were all the murderers hang out.

They will also launch a huge new patch in a few weeks, i guess max 2. With 3 new dungeons, 2 lvl 80 and 1 lvl 46, DX10 (but dx10 can take a bit longer), PVP-resources and much more really nice stuff .

The new patch will make pvp better and more fun, it will move most high lvl pvp to borderkingdoms. You will be abel to harvest pvp-resources in boderkingdom and you use them to build and repair battlekeeps. You can kill anyone you whant in borderkingdoms and you will not get any murderer points. Borderkingdoms have very little guards and you will be abel to choose were to spawn when you get killed. They have also added many new res points to borderkingdoms, oh and you have a chance to drop your pvp-resources every time you get killed. This will be really cool and fun

I would definitely recommend you to resub and give AOC another try.

Good luck m8

Is that what you really believe? You folks who are all posting on a  MMORPG  forum?

Well my GF who plays WoW, who wouldn't go into a forum if her life depended on it, will go into WoW's home page forums for information, as well as thottbot. (which she found in WoW's forum)

Maybe it's simply AoC isn't deep enough to need information? (is that what you are suggesting?)

Still if you're not getting information on:

Classes

Sieges

Crafting

Raids

Talents

Guilds

Stat's and Gear

PvP

Tech Support (cough,cough)

are you just figuring it out as you go along?  Really????

Well im going to suggest you aren't very good at the game if that's the case (perhaps that's what people mean when they say L2P...they mean read about the game...hmmmm).  Now are we saying that's the case in EvE or WoW--because if we are--that's pretty interesting. I'd love to watch someone play EvE and just figure it out as they go along. Or see a raid wipe in WoW because they are guessing how to beat a boss-that's proposterious. If we are saying that the material in AoC is too thin to need a source of information--I wouldn't be advertising that fact on a MMORPG forum...Im just saying...

Maybe some people read the game manual?

Maybe some people go to the official game site and read about most stuff there ?

Maybe some people ask other people in-game ?

When i started WOW at launch the only thing i did was checking the manual, and some guy in-game told me about thottbot and all the addons you could use, i remember my first addon was Cosmo.

Always when i play / start a new mmo i read the manual, ask people in game for help if i need some, or i find out for myself how stuff works etc. ( or if you play with friends as i do, you can learn stuff from each other ).

If some asshole has crappy internet connection doesnt mean that AoC is buggy.

Truth is, that I didnt play today but for last weeks I havent single crash. Our guild killed every raid boss except last one and even if it could use some tweaks they are all killable.

I have a few disconnects (no more than 5 for that 3 weeks) and I allways can connect back in less then 10seconds.

So if its not your probles, dont post bullshits here!

I never have problems with lagg or disconnects, i had them a couple of months ago. But now the game runs perfect for me. Well i had 1 disconnect 4 days ago.

Maybe im lucky ? i have a pretty good comp not a uber comp like some people have but its pretty good and i have 100mb internet connection.

And yes, from my experience and from what i heard from people (that plays the game) all Raid bosses are killable and they work good, but ofc as you say they could use some tweaks.

There are always some people that have problems with performence, gameplay etc on all mmo's i ever played. mmo's are pretty complex.

Well as for the game being a buggy mess i can't really comment on that cuz i didn't try the game yet but, as a starter it  doesn't look good....as two days ago i followed the white mammoth ad to the website to give this game a try, as i heard that the game is getting better and better by the day, i got exited and bought the damned thing off their web site and started to download the 13GB game just to find that the official download er is bugged and keeps giving errors at a certain point, so i tried asking over the official forums for a solution just to find out that im not the only one with the problem and luckily found a torrent to the damned thing, after the download i find that there is still a 2.8 gb patch to download....and guess what!!! the only way to download the patch is through a very, extremely slow patcher that also happens to stop downloading at a certain point......anyway i finally managed to get the game to start just to find out that the account is frozen for some god only knows what reason it is, although the damned web site says the account is open AND PLAYABLE!!!! and thats my experience with this thing...i wont call it a game......

forgive my bad grammar

If you have a problem you should contact the support.

Always best to have the DVDs, i bought my from EB games and i never had this problem

But i hope everything will work out good for you.

well the problem is, your level 56.. i enjoyed the game too.. back then. Once you hit 80, then let us know how it is.

A lot of us play for the journey friend, not the destination...

Even if that journey dries up at around the level 60 mark?  Even so, the journey must come to an end at some point (level 80) and then theres a whole world of nothing to do awaiting you, I cant imagine the game has changed that much.

Lucky for me i had an awesome guild, and we all grinded our way when there was no quests to be had. Since the only way to level, was to grind after you ran out of quests.

I thought about re subbing, but im not going to. My choice. Im going to wait for Darkfall and hope that offeres something decent.

You have alot of quests / content all the way to lvl 73. After 73 you will have most dungeon quests and some solo quests but not many. So your info is wrong m8.

Seconed nothing to do at 80 ? PVP ? Sieges ? Raids <--- 11 raid bosses atm. Yes you have stuff to do at lvl 80. And with the new patch you will have 2 new lvl 80 dungeons and pvp-resources, even more stuff to do at 80.

No worries Mengkeshi,
People will flame on AoC just cuz it seems to be the cool thing to do - all the while WAR is a way bigger POS and that was considered to be its main rival.  All things considered I think AoC isn't AMAZING but much more interesting/better than a lot of the MMORPG's currently out.  Glad you're enjoying.

Hehe thx DeaconX -yeah you see a lot of aoc flames on the forums hehe but yep I'm enjoying and will be enjoying for the forseeable future :)

It doesn't matter indeed.
I played WAR as well and had a great guild the first few months and it completely died out in December last year! (from 50+ active users to barely 2+ in just 2 months!!)
Everyone got bored with WAR. The PVE just became unbearable after rank20. And when you leveled up an ALT you got bored even quicker.
The PVP is boring as hell too. Especially in Tier3 and Tier4. It's one big CC zerg fest. Not to mention the lag and now 5 months later still crashing Fortress zones lol.
Everyone complained about how instanced and zone-fied AoC was.... and look at WAR now... what they going to do to now they cannot fix the lag and crashing? YUP! Instancing the crap out of the game lol.
With the introduction of the Black Guard and Knight of the Blazing Sun as dangling carrot they mananged to keep players hooked for another month... and now they desperately try to get out the Slayer and Choppa as a new carrot.... but they slowly start to run out of carrots.
At least the PVE and PVP in Age of Conan is fun. And that is what counts in the end.

Yes I totally agree, both WAR and AoC are horrible games.

No. Age of Conan is a good game. WAR is a ok game, for me it got boring very fast.

But anyway, happy you enjoy it.  It really is a good game.

Have they made it into an mmo yet or is it still just a glorified multiplayer game?

What do you mean have they made it a mmo yet? if you mean that your server had low pop, then yes they have made it a mmo again. Server merges, Alot of people everywere.

Hi all !!

I normally dont post on forums, i dont really like forums. Way to much trolls fanboys and other strange people.

Im not saying all people on forums are bad, some are nice some are just ohh man.

I dont like to argue with people so thats also one reason to stay away from forums.

But today i feel like posting my review of Age of Conan.

So i started AOC at launch, sadly it was a bad launch Not the worst one becaus i think Vanguard had a worse one. But i still liked the game and i played for almost 1,5 months. Way to much bugs and lagg spikes / memory leaks, lagg etc. Ohh it was a pain in the A.... .

After around 1 month i got to lvl 80 with my Bear Shaman  was a long and hard road but i still had fun. The game had too much missing content and broken stuff. Well after i got to lvl 80 i raided a bit, to my understanding most bosses if not all had bugs, and some you couldent even kill. I got tierd of it so i quited.

I also played with 2 irl friends from start 1 had so much problems with lagg and crashes etc so he quited after 1 week. My other friend played with me to lvl 80 he had a Guardian. He also quited when i did.

After AOC i tryed WAR i honestly hated it really bad and boring game so i quited after 4-5 days ( what a waste of money) i had 3 irl friends who tried it at the same time 1 quited after 1 week  the other 2 quited after 2 months.

After that i took a little break from mmo's i played mostly Fallout 3, COD4 / COD5.

So around christmas i got my interest back for AOC i tough lets check around and see if it got any better, so i did. Many people sad that AOC had improved alot that they added many new stuff and fixed all memory leaks, lagg spikes, bugs etc.

Well i tought what the hell i will give it another try. if i dont like it i will loose 15$ and i have lost way more money on other crappy games. So i installed AOC again just after New year and resubed.

One word IMPRESSED i have now played for 1 month. First all the damn memory leaks are gone, i never have any lagg or lagg spikes etc. The game runes very good on my comp really impressed with this. So first i played a bit with my old 80 shaman i mostly pvped / did some sieges and raiding. i honestly had alot of fun pvp is cool, sieges work pretty good and are really fun. Then i tryed to raid a bit again and my bad memorys came back.

But also there i was really suprised and impressed ! i talked around with many people asking about the game what have changed what have they added, what will come etc. First to my understanding all raid encounters work today, they dont have does uber bugs they had at launch. I have only done 6 raid encounters so far and i am really impressed they actually work ! and i had alot of fun ! i would give my new raiding experience a 8 or maybe a 8,5. Really fun stuff.

It seems that there are 11 raid encounters in the game atm 11 is not a good nr but not a bad one either. pretty ok. People told me that the other 5 raid encounters are also very fun and they work. So i really am looking forward to do the other 5.

I have also made a new alt. Lvl 33 Herald of Xotli. Very fun class! still have not seen any bugs since start. Did Black Castel 2 days ago really fun dungeon. Seems they have revamped it. I have seen the video of Ymir's pass, really nice video. I have heard from many people that this zone is really great. I havent been there with my lvl 80 im saving it for my alt. Really looking forward to this zone.

Overall i am very impressed with how much they have fixed this game, it feels like a hole new game. Stuff work and are really fun. I also spoke with alot of people that have tested some new stuff on the testserver they told me that the stuff are really nice. PVP resources sounds really fun. the 2 new 80 dungeons seem to be really well made and really fun. I asked 3 guys who did xibaluku and they told me it was great i asked them how much would you give it from 1-10 ? 1 guy sad 10, another sad 8 and the third guy sad 9. So it seems this dungeon will rock! and i really hope it will. I have asked around and checked about the stuff they will launch after this patch, itemization seems really good, Common district, yes nice one ! and i heard they will open wing 3 in max 3 months thats really good ! some guys told me it will have 7 raid encounters have no idea if this is true or not, becaus i cant find any info on how many raid encounters it will have. But if its 7 then its great !

The 2 friends i played with at launch joined me 11 days ago and they are also very impressed with the game, i also have another friend that bought the game 5 days ago. We have decided to stay with AOC for a few more months and see how good the new stuff will be. We are havning a really good time. This game is good.

I also recommend this game to people who quited as i and my friends did. resub and give it another try. Ofcourse i recommend new players to buy it also. I heard that you can buy the game really cheap.

Holy shit i have never wrote so much on a forum in my life will probably never ever do it again.

And this Review is what i think about the game and how my experience is with it, i honestly dont care what you think. If you like the game then good for you  If you hate it then so be it. hate away ! go crazy ! .

I go from the 50's in DX9 down to mid to low 20s FPS in DX10. E8400 OC'ed to 3.5 MhZ on a cheapass Gigabyte board, 2 gig DDR2 1066 ram,  Windows 7 32 bit, GTX260 OC'ed to 750/1150. Other games give me about the same FPS in DX10 or DX9.

Just my opinion here but a  lot of effects are still over the top and the game overall looks better in DX9. Fog effects are cool and the water is probably the best I have ever seen in a game. On the bad side lighting effects are way overblown  the  vegetation movement is awful. Combine that with the FPS hit and I really prefer the game in DX9. I tried it again last night to see how it would run post patch and found it pretty much the same as pre patch.

DX10 has a ways to go before prime time in my opinion, but then that is what test servers are for Besides the game is still gorgeous in DX9.

I know people would raise hell but if I were FC I would separate the DX10 from the rest of the patch and not release it till it was further optimized.

Yes, FC sad that they will probably do this.

I loved Tortage. In fact, it is the only part of the game I really liked.

Once you leave, the game starts going down hill.

Down hill ? i can see you havent played since launch.

No the game dosent go down hill after tortage, it gets better and more fun.

I seem to be nearing the end of the big story arc of Tortage and will probalby be leaving soon. How much does the game differ once outside the confines of the lovable little pirate haven? I must admit that even though I do not think of AoC as an "Average MMO experiance" I do find it very fun to play, and for once, being a caster actually means power in all the right places. I am playing a Tempest of Set, so that is another question how well will I fare out in the big PvP areas?

Well after Tortage the real game begins . I think Tortage is fun and really well made, but i think AOC is much much more fun after tortage.
You will see

The zones are well made and really fun, the dungeons are nice also. You really need to do Black Castel at lvl 32+ really awesome dungeon. Oh and Conall's Valley is really beautiful and the music is wonderful. The destiny quests are also really fun, oh and just wait until lvl 55 when you get to Ymir's pass a really amazing and fun zone.

Im sure you will love it !

Tempest of Set is a very good class, you do really nice damage, you can heal, stun etc. If you play good you will own
