Oh, and tell me what to expect in the pvp, rp, and pvp servers...lots of ganking or what?

For PVP servers i recommend either Tyranny or Cimmeria-(rp)

Cimmeria is a RP-server but you dont have to RP if you dont whant to ;)

I heard that Cimmeria has a more friendly community.

Well there are always people who gank (murderers), and there are always people who hunt murderers ;)

Yes, Age of conan has a end game both for pvp and pve ;)

Last patch added new end game content, so dont worry.

Good luck ;)

Hi !

PVP servers = Fury-pvp or Aquilonia-rp-pvp.

PVE servers = Crom

Easiest class is probably Tempest of Set (healer). There are many classes that are good and fun to lvl.

Well you shoulden't expect the best game in the world, but you should expect a Very good and fun game.

And dont worry, Age of conan will not disapear.

I'm curious about how AoC is doing at addressing the 3 major issues I left the game over.

1. Gear variety - When I played there were very few visual sets of gear for a particular class past lvl 20.  Each tier you had like 2 sets with various tints and the sets were the same up through lvl 60 or so at least.  I'm not interested in pvp so I'm interested in just sets aquired from pve.  Also I am not so interested in super rare items just the normal variety from level to level as you progress.  At level 50 I want to be distinctly different then I looked at level 20.  Something like from 1-20 where you have something like 6 sets or so.

Cultural Armor sets are in demand, the material for them in demand, their unique looks in demand. Changes with patch 1.05 will promote cross class gear with different statistics and different abilities. With the inclusion of low to mid level dungeons, as well as mid level bosses, coupled now with the opening of Wing 3 BRC, 2 Thunder River lvl 80 dungeons is putting a different aspect on looks. It could definately be better than what it is, but there is some tangible improvement over what it was. Regular variety wise can be seen here:  http://aoc.yg.com/items/Armor/9  do filter your searches.

2. Content polish - Past lvl 20 the quality of the content dropped rapidly.  No voice overs.  No consistent quest lines.  Thinks pretty much degraded into simple quests.  Then around lvl 50 you started sucky dry on quests, having to resort to repeatable quests and running villa instances.  Even earlier if you didn't level doing group quests.  Group instances in the 40s (sewers I think) were shared and over camped with high lvl soloers.  Getting a pickup group to do these areas was near impossible.

Ok so this was "the" experience in part, again changed now, there are places like the cradle of decay, additional voice overs added in to dozens of quests, additional new quests, branching ones across zones. EMountains got upgraded here. Ymir's pass zone speaks for itself. Oasis + Frost Swaps are repeatable and scale with your level too. Those sewer sharing is no longer there. LFG search gui has been tweaked a bit. After merges population is better on some particular servers - not all.

3. Combat mechanics - Directional attacks and simple combos were ok but as you leveled they got longer and longer and each combo step had a time associated with it.  So even if you knew the sequence you could easily blow it by typing it too fast.  If you blew the sequence in a fight it seriously hurt you and frequently death was pretty much a given.   Getting upto 3-4 key combos became a complete nightmare and not fun at all.  I loved the directional attack thing and a couple button combo was fine since there was a one button queue.  I read that the combos were revamped is there a good site with the current combos shown?

The combo amount has been re-visited and enhanced via feedback like you say here by making them with less sequences and damage per stroke optimized too. Here is another site for perusal:  http://aoc.mmodb.com/combos/

Anyway I know some of this is answered with quite a bit of debate in various threads.  I'm looking for a current update on these issues and having the same person respond to all of them.  Please only people that are CURRENTLY actively playing the game.

Any word on when they will offer a free trial for people that left the game?  Really they should do this.  I'd definitely be interested in taking a look with my old character and see how things have changed.  I'm not sure I'd want to try a new trial and redo the levels from 1-20 which I thought were great.  I think for me it was like lvl 30+ where my enjoyment quickly droped and thats too much work for a trial starting from scratch.

No new word on free trials yet, i would expect something by end of month with the GDC games show. 30+ is still quite the same to say 50, but with a new dungeon, revamped tarantia sewers, some new quests, crafting mild tweaks in this area +40 from just starting off, Black Castle + Pyramids changes too!

I hope some of those websites were handy and let you have a better informed opinion.

thanks for the reply.  Sounds like content might be better but the other items I'm not sure about.

I went to the site you gave with equipment and it looks pretty much the same as it was when I played.  Like two models per 10 levels and not much different for each tier... more stuff maybe at the upper end but from 20-50 where I looked it was pretty bad.  But hopefully 1.05 will see improvement.

On the combos thing the site you sent me too looked a bit confusing.  I checked out my assassin abilities and it started to look good till I looked at higher lvl abilities and saw stuff like LL, UR, LR, Mid, UL as the follow up combo to one attack.  That is a freaking 5 key combo and that is one of the major reasons I quit.  2 key combos great.  Directional attacks love it.  3 key combos tolerable bug sometimes frustrating.  4 key combos hate em.  And now it looks like they still have 5 key combos in the 60-80 lvls?  Or is this site not uptodate?

I went to class combos and looked at the assassin ones since my character was an assassin.

Anyway thanks for the reply.  I think I'll wait till they eventually have a veteran free play program.    Doesn't look like things have changed enough in the areas that were important to me.  But 1.05 sounds a bit encoraging.  But please follow up on the combo thing cause if there are still 5 key combos I'm just not going to ever play this game.

thanks

Hmm FC reduced most combos, so they are now shorter.

Most 4 key combos were reduced to 3 key combos. 5 key combos ? I am pretty sure they dont exist anymore.

Anyway i dont have any 5 key combos on my 80 HoX ;)

Deciding on either EVE or AoC, i played AoC 2 months back and got a 40 necro on Tryanny and greatly enjoyed the game. The thing that did make me quit was the murder system. It needs to be done away with or fixed. All i need to say is 3 level 20 archers killing a 80 (no damage mitigation for higher level gear, but from what ppl say items will be buffed and thank you finallly funcom!!!).

AoC also to me had a questing problem, i would either get all these group quests when im soloing and it felt like a quest in a quest to even find quests. And those giant elite looking mobs, it wouldnt kill funcom to label them as elite or give them a special portrait border >.>. I understood that AoC did have a hard pvp level up system but this is what i enjoyed because it felt very like those old days in WoW when you got High Warlord (till blizz ruined the game). I rather play pvp because i like the idea of pvp anywhere, even tho it can get in the way of leveling but at the same time make the immersion to keep even that boring questing interesting. And funny thing about Tyranny is the lack of minigames on a PVP server and how many ppl sit there in global chat and link thier PVE gear on a PVP server. Get what im saying? I simply love how you get full pvp sets for your dedication in pvp, it would be great if ppl got together and did some mini games and more seiges in between but they rather gank because minigames have set levels and this disallows them to gank lowbies :(.

One thing that will keep me coming back is Necro, not many games have this class, let alone have it be so awesome!!!!!!!! So any game that can work Necro right has got my wallet. Little things only bother me about this game but its enough to discourage me from playing. I want to pvp but if pvp will consists of ganking lowbies all day and NOT playing minigames/seiges then the game will be to PVE for me and thats not what i seek. AoC has great potential as a pvp game and it seems the focus more on PVE than PVP :(

The same thing bothers me about EVE, ppl make it into a "camp gates until a sucker comes and others say there is factional warfare. Its just i really need to know if this game is an actual strategic pvp beast or just a gank the weak in outnumbered situations. I already find it hard to get into sci fi but if its a great game that does have fun and fair large epic scale battles im in :D. Just need some help from you guys.

Well i play on Fury-pvp (EU), and there are new minigames every 5-20 mins. So alot of people do minigames and i think they are alot of fun. Alot of sieging going on, also very fun ;)

FC added pvp-resources in the last patch so Borderkingdoms-cimmerian end is really busy, Alot of pvp going on there all the time. And i think that the open world pvp is pretty fun, me and some friends like to team up and go on a murderer hunt, we kill every murderer we see ;) Really fun and good pvp-xp.

I dont understand you when you say that the pvp in AOC is just ganking?

Many things have changed the last months, the game is much better now and i would definitely recommend you to resub and give AOC another try ;)

Yeah I can see how long it takes to patch.

One last question (I think). Whats a good server to start out on?

For PVE server, Set and Wiccana have the highest population.

For PVP server, Tyranny and Cimmeria has the highest population.

Cimmeria is a RP-pvp server but you dont have to RP if you dont whant to.

If you whant to start on a pvp server i recommend Cimmeria since i heard it has a more friendly community then Tyranny.

Good luck ;)

I was in the closed beta of AoC, and while it was a rather entertaining game at the time, it was riddled with bugs. I've played ALOT of MMO's so I understand that a game has problems at launch, but I tend to avoid games until a majority of the problems are fixed.

I've played WoW since launch, and I think I just quit for good as I'm not very happy with the direction of the game. Might resub to WAR as I had alot of fun in that game with friends. Darkfall does not have free trials and I'm not willing to drop 50 bucks on a game that has more problems then 3-mile island.

Since you can get AoC for 5 or 6 bucks online these days I was thinking of buying it, but I wanted to know how the game is doing right now? I'm not worried about "lol it does not have a billion subs so its obviously failing", just about the actual game.

Is sieging and such implemented fully now? Is PvP enjoyable? How are the guild cities?

Hi !

Yes, I would definitely recommend you to buy AOC and give it a try ;)

AOC is a really good and fun game.

Is sieging and such implemented fully now? Is PvP enjoyable? How are the guild cities?

Yes, Sieging is implemented and its also very fun.

You have, minigames, sieging, Borderkingdoms, and open world pvp. And yes i think pvp is enjoyable. It can be a pain sometimes, but most time i find "open world pvp" very fun ;)

Guild cities are pretty cool. FC will add many new stuff to guild cities later on, so they will probably be much more cool ;)

I played AoC from open beta and up until level 56, when the quests and content started to run dry and everyone was saying "just grind enemies for the next 4-5 levels".  I really have no interest in just standing in a field killing hundreds of the same thing with no purpose, and I prefer story purpose and variety to keep me interested.  Lately I've been considering coming back to give the game another shot, as it's been a good 6 months since I was there.  But I would really like to know how the content is for 55+, particularly that there are enough quests and areas to enjoy all the way until level 80.  And I would also like to know how the "end game" dynamic is playing out.  Is there a lot of siege warfare ongoing to keep players entertained?  What else is there to do, aside from rolling up a new character?  Let me know what you all think...

Hi !

Well Age of conan is much better now and i would definitely recommend you to resub and give it another try ;)

FC added a new zone Ymir's pass lvl 55-65, so you have good amount of content now. I think Ymir's pass is the best zone in AOC, its very well done and very fun ! Check this video ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flHaCyQWojE (Ymir's pass trailer)

FC has also added, many new items, revamped dungeons, pvp-system, pvp-lvls, pvp-gear, pvp-resources, many new quests, new high lvl dungeons and mid lvl, and much much more.

Check this video ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT55Du_pT-o (trailer of Xibaluku new lvl 80 dungeon)

Yes, there is alot of siegeing and pvp going on at end game. You have also 13 raid bosses, Xibaluku (group) and Slaughterhouse cellar (singel) dungeons. Alot of fun ;)

I played AoC in Closed beta, and right at release, but like so many others..I unsubbed because of various reasons. Now, I promised myself I would not even consider resubbing unless a few things were fixed..and I was wondering if someone could help me to understand if or when these things will be fixed.

1. PvP leveling system (I'm pretty sure this was implemented fully, but I would like verification)

2. Sieging (I think this is fixed and working right?)

3. Revamp on Items (I hear this is in the next patch.)

4. Grinding at later levels (Is this fixed completely? Or do you still have to pretty much grind at a certain point?)

5. Crafting System (Last time I played the system was pretty much broken, and impossible to harvest or do anything.)

Thanks in advance.

1. PvP leveling system (I'm pretty sure this was implemented fully, but I would like verification)

Yes, PVP-lvls, PVP-gear, PVP-system, and PVP-resources have been implemented.

You have 5 pvp lvls, you gain pvp-xp for each player you kill. You can only kill same player 5 times every 24hours to get pvp-xp, after 5 times you get 0 pvp-xp.

You can buy pvp-gear with each pvp-lvl, so you need to be pvp-lvl 5 before you can have a full set.

Everytime you kill a player who is -8 lvls lower then you, you get murderer points (penalty). If you then continue to kill low lvl players you become a murderer. You will be a outcast from the normal society ( the bad guy), guards will attack you etc. You will have your own murderer camps were all the murderers hang out.

FC implemented pvp-resources with the last patch. You can harvest these resources in the Borderkingdoms-cimmerian end. You use these resources for building and repairing Battle keeps. Everytime you get killed you have a % chance to drop the pvp-resources. You can also kill anyone you whant in the Borderkingdom and you will not get any murder points.

2. Sieging (I think this is fixed and working right?)

Yes, Sieging works good now and its also very fun.

3. Revamp on Items (I hear this is in the next patch.)

Yes, Itemization will come in the next patch 1.05 along with revamped gemcutting, Tarantia Commons lvl 70-80 zone, new lvl 80 dungeons and more ;) Good stuff.

4. Grinding at later levels (Is this fixed completely? Or do you still have to pretty much grind at a certain point?)

Well you can easy quest to lvl 73 with no grinding, at lvl 73 you have most group dungeon quest and some solo quests ( but not many ).

So this gap is the last one, and Tarantia Commons will fix it. But its not a big gap, you can do dungeons, some solo quests and Villas if you whant.

5. Crafting System (Last time I played the system was pretty much broken, and impossible to harvest or do anything.)

Yes, you can harvest now and use crafting. They revamped alchemy and made it very good. FC will revamp Gemcutting in the next patch.

They also plan to add new items for crafting like , new drops / recepis and revamp more professions.

I would definitely recommend you to resub and give AOC another try ;)

The game is much better now.

I cancelled my AoC account in October of last year because of some the glitches and bugs in the game.  I decided to wait til WotLK came out to try out the DK class and see if the game would fit me.  After about 3 months of playing WoW, I am getting a bit bored with it.

I am a little sick of the grinding in the game.  I also was a little fed up with some of the silly things in the game like the off-the-wall armor and weapons.  I know they do this to appeal to younger players but someone like me (I'm 34) sort of push me away from the game rather than pull me in more.

I have thought of resubbing to AoC but I want to ask what issues has been fixed since October and if it is a good time to play or wait a little longer.  I may pick a PvE server because I don't like getting gank and I don't take pleasure in ganking someone.

P.S.  I also got a old 360 from my sis.  If anyone has any picks, I would like to know some really good games that are on the 360 so I have something to play than AoC.

Yes, I would definitely recommend you to resub and give AOC another try ;)

Its definitely worth to try the new patch.

And for the Xbox360 i would recommend Gears of war and Gears of war 2 ;)

Hi !

Yes, i would definitely recommend you to buy AOC and give it a try ;)

Age of conan is a good game and it gets better and better, and the population is good.
So dont worry, buy it and see if you like it or not ;)

Good luck

Yes i would definitely recommend you to resub and give AOC another try ;)

AOC is much better now, and the population is good, its actually growing now slowly ;)

Both Tyranny-PVP and Cimmeria-RP-pvp have high population. I think Bloodspire and Agony-pvp have medium population.

Good luck ;)

Launching a win back and trial campaign is innefective if you don't have solid proof that what failed to retain the lost subscriptors is solved, after the Q1 09 report they would have a better, objective, based in numbers and not in subjective appreciations, idea, likely a 2 quarter trend can be needed, or a patch that addresses the remaining big issues of complaint, which could very well be the next patch cycle.

I am pretty sure they will launch a free trial after patch 1.05 ;)

anyways, i was woundring if any of you guys have a secret recipe for going from 30 to 50+ in Cimeria
i really wanna get this char a mount and start crafting heavy armor.
thx

Well best thing to do, is just to do all quests you can find ;)
The elit quests are really cool and give you good xp / items.
You need a group to do them. ;)

i know some ppl who leave those quests til they are lvl40+ cause the elites are kind of very tough...
i tried to do some of those in groups while my char was lvl28 and i got owned at every attempt

I did them on lvl 32, you just need a pretty good group and it will work ;)

I think you need to have a EU key for connecting to EU servers.
But you should ask customer support ;)
I remember a guy who asked pretty much the same question on the AOC forums and they told him that the customer support should be able to help him ;)

It had set the bar of entertainment so damn high, everything afterwards was a total letdown. There. Thats how I felt. Took me a while to point to. You get that exciting, rich, wonderful story told, and then dropped into a world with "catch me 20 bear noses". Thanks.
I still miss the combat with that wonderful "impact" feeling. Hacking through hordes with my barbarian axes was cool.

Well i would definitely recommend you to resub and give it another try ;)

It is weird, seeing as after level 20, questing in conalls valley and wild lands of zelata has been the most fun part for me. Tortage is fine imo, but I enjoy the added freedom that follows after leaving tortage. Staying in one big area and questing there instead of running back and forth between small instances in tortage (and the quests aren't that bad... most of them just don't have any voice overs).

Same here, I think Tortage is pretty good.
But for me the real game started after Tortage, Khopshef Province and Conall's Valley are really fun and cool zones.
And Conall's Valley is just beautiful, and i love the music.
I think that Ymir's pass lvl 55-65 is the best and most fun zone ;)

I got a bit fed up with the MMO I was playing and decided it was time to leave, maybe even leave MMO's for a while.
So I started up my Steam account and downloaded a couple of demo's.  I came across Overlord, a game from 2007 which looked like a bit of fun and it was only £15.  Now due to various reasons I was not able to buy this game on my Steam account.  I went through customer services, who were very helpful, but still no joy.  So I thought to just go down the road to my local Game store and see if they still had the game.
Not only did the Game store still have a copy but they were selling it as part of a buy 2 games for £15 deal.  2 rows down I saw that AoC was part of the same deal and quickly snapped it up.
So I now have what I consider to be 30 day free trial .  So much for staying away from MMO's for  while but hope I enjoy it.
