I'M Waiting for the next planetside!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/09/08 1:31:17 PM
I recently went back to planetside for the vet trial running until the 20th of May. My first experience being back was being blindly invited to an outfit, then getting jerked around with getting into to the outfit squads. They would spam Outfit chat with open slots, then I would sit and wait repeatedly while my status was "requested". So my first few hours back was less than spectacular. I do love the massive base/tower/cave battles, falling into max roles such as Anti-Air, Anti-Vehicular. Never took to much driving or flying, primarily did hacking, and medic work. The BFRs didn't bother me, breaking up the continents into planets is ok. Still feels like it's missing something. I think the thing killing the game isn't necessarily the lack of players, but the lack strategy it just feels like the same old uncoordinated cluster****. There were nights where it was fun and exciting, then nights of pure frustration, which led me to cancelling my sub way back when and sticking with BF2. BF2 is a great game, but i haven't played anything that has the same feel that PS does. I'll stick around while my sub is on free status if I get hooked and am having fun, I will sub for a few more months, but if it's ultimately frustrating, hey no harm, no foul. SOE needs to give PS a lot more love, i am suprised they haven't tried porting it to the PS3 yet. It just feels like they don't have a clue about what they have. In a perfect world, SOE would bring back the old SWG, shut down VG and MXO and focus on PS, EQ/EQ2. Between SWG, PS and EQ/EQ2, and than maybe PotBS/Agency, they would have 5 unique universes and better quality across their titles. Vanguard cannibalizes it's playerbase from EQ and EQ2 so SOE ends up competing with itself. |

There were a few magazines that were dedicated to MMOs that I can recall. You had Massive Online Gamer. This was a very well put together magazine that came out quarterly and I think only made it through 3 or 4 issues before renaming the mag, then dying off completely. It was slightly oversized, printed on high quality paper. SOE Worlds, a magazine that was dedicated to all SOE MMOs, I remember getting the first issue in the mail. Never saw anything else guess it never caught on. Finally, you have Beckett's Massive Online Gamer. This magazine comes out bi-monthly. It is a good read and there are usually some pretty cool little bonuses like codes for paintings in EQ2, beta keys, etc. Overall, the magazine is a little on the thin side and is very WoW - centric. They do have articles on other games. This one I guess with more financial backing, and more writers on staff could develop into a bigger magazine. Eve Online has a dedicated magazine. Subscriptions are available directly through CCP.

Sony Online Moves to SCEI Division
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/14/08 10:59:09 AM
Originally posted by tkreep You have everquest online adventures and everquest online adventures:frontiers. Frontiers is the same as EQOA but with expanded content. Both were released for the PS2, and completely playable on the PS3. the SCEI acquisition of SOE might bring the long standing rumor of SWG going to consoles might be true considering the NGE essentially made the game playable on a dualshock. I highly doubt it, but then again that rumor's been bouncing around since the early PS2 online days. Other than EQOA, the only game that might get a huge boost if ported to the PS3 i think might be planetside. If you look at the items they are adding to Warhawk, Planetside has them all plus a little more. |

Originally posted by Stellos I too am a pc/console gamer and I agree with you 100% on this. After having a few nights string of having to mute a number of players in various games. my pc/360 are running on the same monitor. DVI connection for the PC and the VGA connector for the 360. I'd hook up the PS3 but I have yet to find an adapter for it. Couple the LCD monitor, + Turtle Beach wired Ear Force X1 headphones is one of the best setups I've ever had for a console. I am going to wait for the reviews, and word of mouth on this first though. I know that funcom is working on updating the AO engine with the AoC engine. I wouldn't mind seeing a slightly higher subscription price to be able to play both games as a package deal.

check for a setting called gamepad, then uncheck the box, that used to happen to me all the time when I used a Saitek eclipse keyboard. |

halfway through the DL process. Is Lintra the central server for the mmorpg guild at the moment?

I too just came back. All my chars are on Siegehardt. The big thing in Giran was everyone selling off their stuff and moving to Bartz. I think they also recently did a mass bot ban.

I dont think I'll ever reinstall this game for one simple fact:
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 2/02/08 10:25:12 AM
I agree, my biggest beef with the game, other than gameplay was all the proprietary Play Online software. It was a pain of having to manage multiple usernames and passwords, then have multiple layers of software I would have to navigate before actually getting to the game itself.

I recently purchased the latest box and rolled a brand new toon on Bristlebane. Tons of people in PoK. I currently play EvE and EQ, EQ is a nice change, gives me a chance to scratch that fantasy itch while I wait for the new stuff that's coming. Not to mention 15 day skill training sessions in EvE. I kinda missed the boat with EQ, my first MMO being EQOA. Once I got a decent computer, my first MMO ended up being SWG pre-NGE. I have played everything else since. So i figured, I might as well try EQ. I just finished Gloomdeep today, and am currently in PoK. I am having a blast and am looking forward to doing more in the game. Once I got out of the mines, I felt like I was back in love. Sure the graphics are simplistic, but with 14 expansions, insanely huge gameworld, the scope of the game is astounding, and it's tried and tested. I am happy to be an EQ Noob. Now only if they can add some Logitech G15 Support!!!! 8^) PS - i need a guild :)

Thank you both for answering. I will probably make a decision to return once the VG free time is over. |

Right now I am currently playing the free month of Vanguard and am still undecided as to whether or not to go back to paying for it. The game has improved overall, but still kinda feeling meh about it. Now, in regards to EQ2, I own the core game, Desert, and Faydwer, If I purchase Kunark, can I just install off that disc, add the reg key to my acct and the client will update accordingly? thanks in advance!

I cloned and have both, the thing that really pissed me off about the guardian is that in a way it still plays like ranged weapon class. The Grenadier class and Propellant guns (flamethrowers) are a lot of fun to play. Plant yourself in a spot and let er rip with a AOE-cone spray of hot flaming death. You really do feel a little on the invincible side of things with this class. Get a specialist to keep your armor up and you can hold a base entrance down. |

Originally posted by jimsmith08 I absolutely agree with this thread, with multiple characters in their 30s I too am starting to get a little bored. In regards to Jim's response, can't we in essence do this now? You can buy a full blank slate of armor from any armor vendor, then add whatever you want from recipies? Components for the recipies come from broken down gear. In a small way there's your resource harvesting. Or as of recently you can get your recipies, etc from Military Surplus. I haven't looked to see if you can add crafting items to the auctions. I would mind seeing a more defined crafting role overall.

I haven't seen it yet, but I read Matheson book and already seen the 2 earlier adaptations (The Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man). I am looking forward to checking it out. For those that haven't seen the 2 earlier flicks, I Highly recommend them. |

Cool!, I'd definately come back to check it out then. Didn't want to re-sub for a month just to see the state of the game. |

Originally posted by spizz If you figure, 4 years of development, overhead costs, salaries, equipment, advertising, promotions, 2 years in, original design is scrapped, 2 years of new design, we ultimately got a game that's half finished. I do see good things on the horizon for this game. Everything that they had on the table didn't make it in yet. 100 mil can make some sense, it's definately not going to break NC Soft. I mean think about it, they have all of those paying Bot/farmer accounts in L2 that outnumber the actual players 4 to 1. Why do you think they won't take any major action against them? |
