Obama sends 30K more troops to Afghanistan

Sir, you need to understand that these "guerillas" are happy to set themselves up as the rulers of towns, then cities, then the entire country if you appease them. That's how we get to 9/11. you do what works in each situation. You can't get all the child rapists. But you don't disband the police force because of that. That seemed to be your assertion. you can't root out all the terrorists. So don't try. I think if that was your logic, you would never do anything. You can't catch all speeders, so don't make a speed limit. You can't catch all bank robbers, so just open the bank vaults and let everyone take the money. You can't make everyone pay their taxes, so dont' make anyone pay taxes. Nothing is ever 100% effective, but that has never been a legitimate argument for whether or not to make a policy. I imagine the taliban militants in Afghanistan look pretty much like the ones in Iraq. They're pretty much doing in Afghanistan what they did in Iraq. You try to build up the Afghan Army. But you can't do that if the country is in chaos. Additional troops can police areas, and maintain a certain amount of stability so the Afghans can build up their army, like the Iraqis did. The problem is not identifying Taliban or Islamists. The Afghans can point them out just fine, just like the Iraqis could. They tend to be the guys shooting at you, planting IEDs, or trying to take over a village or town. It seems identifying these assholes is not the problem. The problem is the Afghans, according to US generals in Afghanistan, have an attitude of "god willing". In other words they are lazy and don't give a shit about doing anything right. If it gets done, then god willed it. If it doesn't get done at all, then god willed that too. Kinda hard to make progress with a culture like that.
I think you're missing the guys point, what he's trying to say is that the cost is not worth the result. Now you're going on about criminals, speeding, blah blah, the cost of maintaining a police force is worth the result, the cost of speeding cameras is worth the result. In his opinion (and mine) the cost of maintaining the 'war on terror' is not worth the result. Now you may believe the 'result' is a considerbaly safer world from terrorism, he believes the result is not going to make much difference, therefore he sees the cost in troops and resources as not worth it. |

You better hope this game is damn good, because if it isn't you can kiss the MMO genre goodbye for a long time. This game is THE next big MMO, there is nothing on the horizon except for a bunch of fizzers or niche games at best. I mean lets be honest, most MMOs are completely shit no matter what nonsense they promise, at least you know this game is being produced by a company with some serious rep. If Bioware fucks up what hope is there for the rest. I have absolutely no idea what Bioware will have in store for us when this game releases, all I do know is that if this game fails I'll forget this genre for many years... |

I think it's acceptable. It's the same thing as not allowing tall buildings in certain places. But it's difficult for me to relate as I'm not a religious person. Are these minarets important to Muslims from a religious perspective or a cultural perspective? Personally, this sounds like a case of 'tough titties'. |

Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of 'Anthropogenic Global Warming'

"Going Green" can be disastrous for human beings if you do it in a way that leads to corruption and wasted resources. This is exactly what Cap and Trade does. With cap and trade, you essentially tax the citizens billions of dollars on energy use. Then corrupt politicians use the money to bribe people to vote for them, or in third world countries they just steal the money and buy villas on the French Revieria with the money. What does that do to "go green"? It makes people poorer, and does nothing for the planet or environment. On the other hand, if you want to put a tax on say gasoline nad oil, and spend EVERY PENNY of that money constructing nuclear power plants, windmills, and solar plants, I wouldn't mind that. but just taxing energy and giving the money to dictators? I don't see how that will help anyone.
Politics aside, you still agree that 'going green' if done in the right way is a good thing. |

Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of 'Anthropogenic Global Warming'
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/28/09 1:07:46 AM
A thought came to me yesterday that the whole global warming thing might just be a way to kickstart the economy again, by creating a new 'green industry'.. now this comes out, quite interesting. Still unsure about the whole thing, but I like to keep myself skeptical when it comes to this kind of stuff. Surely going green can't be a bad thing for us humans as a race. |

Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/26/09 11:36:48 AM
Can't they just say he was being billigerent or some shit so they punched him in the lip? Seems kinda retarded to court martial three good soldiers, each one an expensive military asset for the sake of some piece of shit who's going to rot in a cell for the rest of his life... or death penalty, whatever the punishment. I don't think they will be kicked out of the military, but they may recieve some other sort of punishment for acting unprofessionally, which is ok with me. If they get kicked out well, that would be beyond ridiculous. |

Enough of catastrophe movies, how about WWIII/End of mankind
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 11/24/09 11:02:48 AM
Children of Men is an awesome movie, and even if you think the ending was anti-climatic the epic battle scene before-hand makes more then up for it. Personally I didn't mind the ending because the rest of the movie is great. This is my style of movie and I'm with the OP on this, I want more grittier, darker movies. No more of this hero, happy ending shit. I want to see a movie which is believable again. Problem is Hollywood never strays far from the safe formula.

Well it's only an honourary black belt, you need a certificate that you recieve when you grade successfully to prove that you actually earned it. |

Ouch.......PC version Assasin Creed coming Feb.2010 :(
General Gaming « General Discussion 11/20/09 10:12:10 AM
Meh the first one sucked balls anyway. Rented it for PS3, fucking boring, Tenchu shits all over it, and I'm talking about PS1/PS2 Tenchu. Assassins Creed is just another example of why I think console gaming is completely shit these days, I must admit I liked the intro and the start of the story, but then it puts that genetic memory spin on the story, which would be ok on its own, but in this context kinda lame. Then I began playing the first level, and after I began the wholesale slaughter of dozens of guards to protect a further dozen beggars being beaten up or w/e, followed by dozens of other pointless mini-mission thingys (if you can call it that), further followed by the anti-climatic boss fight... I realised you weren't an assassin, just another lunatic chopping up everything in its path with no hint for subltely. Which would be ok if the game wasn't called 'Assassins Creed'. Just my 2 cents there. |
