1.Money buys everything thus you fail. Blizzard is filthy rich.

2.This game might be really really bad at the moment (see Dark and Light) , so why not sell it?

all this speculating "your guild moves to WAR" and stuff like that.... it doesn't matter.. if the game will turn out to suck no one will play it...otherwise you will see alot of players from wow (including full guilds) playing it... stop discussing about useless stuff that have no meaning...

"Ye man!!11 all my guild moves to WAR gonna rocksz0r" ..... **WAR turns out to be a huge bore** ---> **Everyone's back to WoW**

Anyone who played long enough can see how Blizzard just ran out of stuff to make wow interesting .. the only way they could do that is bring back world pvp somehow but they went the exact opossite way

Uuuh, I utterly fail to see anything really funny in that picture, though. Thats because it has hardly anything to do with reality. I strongly doubt any failure in any of these games listed had anything to do with WoW at all.

I have played Vanguard from its release and I have heard all kinds of reasons why people leave. Leaving for AoC or EVE, getting bored, too many bugs, too low population, busy in reallife, starting egoshooters instead, ... but not ONE of them left to play WoW.

don't be naive...it's obvious they reactivated their wow account after they told you that.

I don't think Darkfall is real, but if it is the developers are really stupid for not publishing alot of screenshots and videos <----- this is easy to do.

I believe after WAR and AION are out wow will start to feel it  but only a little bit, the reason is simple  - no other company manages to work hard enough on their product and release a fun\"deep"\almost bugless mmo.

Yeah, the bugs WoW had are on the same level of bugs that AOC has, right......you need a memory check, because that's not even close.

Let me preface this review by stating the following:

1. I was really looking forward to Age of Conan
2. I am desperate to find a "WoW" killer
3. I have been to a certain degree a fanboi of this release
4. I was not in any BETA but did launch with EA
5. I have leveled two characters to level 44 and 35 so I have not maxed

That being said I am sad to say that the more I play this game, the more I am let down and disappointed by some of the core mechanics of this game and am not sure this is really even an MMO (at least not in the typical MMO vein).

The Review

First the good:

Environment - The games "setting" and "environment" is about spot on to what I would consider my "ideal" environment. The mature rating allows for a more adult oriented game, some violence and gore and some sick animations. 9/10

Combat - Probably the best aspect of the game, grinding is still grinding but the "no auto attack" combat certainly keeps you interested and the aforementioned animations are very well done. 9/10

Graphics - I guess this is a love it or hate it aspect of the game, some will say they are dull, but I believe that was a design decision to go with the realistic environment. I personally like the graphics and they are a 180 from the crayon colored cartoon grahics from World of Warcraft. 8/10

Character Creation - AoC comes in second (albeit a distant second) to the character creation system of City of Heroes/Villains. I like the options that are available and coming from AC/AC2 and Wow this is a nice feature. 7/10

Now the Bad:

Now with all the nice things said above, one might wonder how just one negative aspect of a game can take this game down so far in this reviewers opinion. But the one problem I have with this game is a big one and not one that can be fixed with a patch as it was a core design decision.

And that is...

AoC uses a "guild wars" type of instancing system... so much so that one can argue that this game is not in fact a true MMO. So you have picked a server that say supports 2-3000 players (estimated). Now unlike WoW or CoH/V or most MMOs if 1000 players go to any one city you are all not in fact in that city together, you are in one of upwards of 15-20 "instances" of that city or quest area even though you are all on the same server.

What this means is that you are really only playing with 5-10% of the actual server at any one time. This obviously completely ruins PvP. Want to get revenge for a gank? Too Bad! The ganker can switch instances and you are left with A) doing nothing or B) spending the next 30 minutes instance hopping just hoping to catch the offender.

This is completely unacceptable and it baffles me why this decision was made. Performance? Perhaps in 1998, but in 2008 this could not have been a performance issue when all other mainstream MMOs can and do handle > 2500 players per server without this type and level of server instancing.

This decision is very disappointing and really limits the appeal of the game to many who are used to playing with more than a handful of players.

There are other small quibbles (stats make no sense, armor does not seem varied enough, et al) but all of these are fixable. The instancing decisions are core to the game and for many will ruin the experience and any longevity.

If you like Guild Wars then I can completely recommend this game. It has a lot of nice features even some level of innovation, but if you are looking for or are used to a game where all players of a server are available to you, then this game falls woefully short.

3 posts = your credibility is -1 ,now go reroll another account here and post the same whine again mr. no life kid.

lol because he has 3 posts his credibility is -1 and he has no life? you sad sad fanboi, go jump off a cliff please.

About the review, Im thinking of buying of AOC but the instancing sounds really bad, I rather have lower graphics and a full open world :/

To be honest you can't be surprised they lack customer support , they released a product which has too many problems for them to handle, their game is not ready in every aspect.

If this game exists they would have posted alot more screenshots/videos, especially when people are claiming their game is a vaporware, the fact they stay pretty indifferent to it gives me an answer.

Just another reason Blizzard is smart and actually got the big $ they deserved : WoW  - cartoonish graphics that appeal to alot of people (not GFX whores "omgz lol iwant coolz grapics for my awseomz comp")  and also can run on most computers. Why Funcom is stupid and won't get the $ ( well they will get $ but less than they expected Im sure of that): using very high gfx most people can't run (there goes a big part of the community of MMOs) + lag because of the fact that is a Massive Multiplayer and the gfx for that genre is just ahead of it's time.

That's what divides Blizzard from the rest, they think about what the crowed wants and needs and not only what will be "cool" and actually fail in true time.

Blizzard made a mmorpg for the mainstream. And we really don't need another one.

If Funcom wants to break from the mainstream, then kudos to them. But they'll of course never reach the same subscriber numbers as WoW, but I seriously doubt that was ever their intention.

Millions of people buy Britney Spears albums, does that mean you should too?

That's not a good comparsion...the reason alot of people won't try\play AOC is because they CAN'T not because they don't want to, since their computer can't run it and not everyone want/can afford high end pc. Funcom main's intention is ofc to get money( believe me ), so when they create a game that eliminate the option of even thinking trying the game for alot of the mmo community , they are plain stupid, Im sorry. it's not about the fact that it's not mainstream and shows nipples.

Compared to AoC and WAR, Aion is flying low under the radar. Very low. People just don't know this game, and won't buy it. Not because it's a bad game, but because they nothing about it, or the name.

Well a member of NC said officialy in an interwiev that Aion has not yet start publishing and promoting the game in US and EU cause they want to have a full game with no huge bugs etc be4 that.

They said that they will start the publishing thing in the next months.

If they do really so and they make a new site too( as they promised they would, cause the site they got now is really poor, according to warhammer's and aoc) and if their publishing is good enough as warhammer and Aoc i dont see why Aion couldnt become the next "great" mmo.

It has strong fitures, imba graphics and animations, nice skill and character customisation. Sure they luck a bit with only 7 classes but overall its a great game

One of the warhammer, aoc or Aion will be the Wow killer imo and since i dont see aoc being we are left with warhammer and Aion.

I really hope the wow killer will be Aion cause i like it a lot more, based on what i ve seen till now

Aion will be a good (great?) game but will not achieve giant amounts of players. It is too esoteric for that.

As far as a WoW killer... there are no WoW killers. None. There will never be a WoW killer. People need to start realizing that WoW has gone beyond video game players. It is a social phenomon. So many people play it who are NOT video game players.

WoW will wind down just like any other game (possibly) but it will wind down very slowly.

So, when people compare video games they really need to remove it from the equation.

Aion will do well. It won't be huge.

When people are refering to the phrase "wow killer" what they actually mean is new MMORPG that will be at least great as wow is/was, the only reason this hasn't happen yet is because no company matched the investment and the creativity Blizzard put into their MMORPG - like it does with every game (look at Diablo 2 for another good example). Is Aion gonna be like that? I believe only the players who beta tested it can say, Is WAR gonna be that game? I can tell you that atm it's not even close. If no company will create a "wow killer" it's pretty safe to say that Blizzard will be the one to create another mmo to pick up the players tired from wow.

And ofc it has to come out be4 warhammer and wotlk so that players wont be lead to those games imo.

tbh I think it's pretty much BS. I think that next game to be WoW's replacer (I mean not by the publicity if has , I mean it will actually be good) people will hear from other people the game is great and start joining it.. in the end if the game doesn't deliver it will fail and people won't quit wow for it..

I can't really say how I know this but let me just tell you there's a good reason why WAR has a strict NDA and why the game was postponed, figure out how I know it :P

Aion on the other hand really looks like it's polished and I do believe it will be the next game I'll seriously play.
