World of Warcraft has what I'd like to call:

The X component

if I would get the same budget Blizzard had for WoW and try to replicate what Blizzard did I would fail, I mean.. all the mmo components would be there but I won't be able to recreate what WoW makes players feel.

World of Warcraft (The burning crusade):

Blizzard just said: all the epic dungeons you did and got and the epic gear you got down the trash , and I know MMORPG should be more about than just the gear but I think this is what made WoW from a perfect game into a broken game, and Blizzard a company which cares about gameplay first into a company that cares about money first ( I know it was all illusion in the first place but that is how I felt in vanilla wow)

Second:

WAR -  I thought it was the next step in revolution of mmos after WoW , boy was I wrong - the first in the list to try to recreate the world of warcraft experience turns out to be a huge BullCr4p

wow what a shock,  I wouldn't believe it unless they explicitly said it.

Is your game fun???????? :):]:>

bad idea.

at the end of the day, MMORPG is a pretty broad term.  i don't think it's any secret that different ones have different features and different degrees of instancing or pvp or zone lines or loading screens or zone sizes or fast travel or twich targeting or roleplaying or whatever else rubs your buddha.

You read the features and try the game, if the features don't suit you, don't play.

I tried Global Agenda recently.  I thought for about 5 seconds about "is it a lobby game or an MMORPG?", then decided that i don't care and went on to thinking about whether I like playing it or not.   That's really what matters.

oh I guess you don't understand where I'm coming from, let me explain:

The reason I want this seperation is alot of time you don't really know whether an mmo has a persistent world or no, I take persistent mmos and non persistent mmos has two different games though I enjoy both, that's why I want this seperation because when I read a description of an mmo I would straight away know which one is it.

I agree with the idea but you're doing it wrong.  You'll never take the mmog / mmorpg label away from lobby games now.  It's too late for that.  What we need is to stop calling persistant world games mmorpg's and come up with a new term for those.

i agree. Rather than try to downgrade the lobby game, give the fully persistant world game some prestige that the lobby game can't compete with.

Theres' Tequila, and then theres 100% Agave Tequila!

you want the 100% Agave.

That's a good idea actually.. how about "MMORPG:)" or "MMMORPGSMILEYFACE"

jk jk

Seriously , anyone have a good idea for that?

After seeing this article on massively:

http://www.massively.com/2010/06/25/the-daily-grind-whats-your-favorite-pseudo-mmo/

I thought to myself it will be rather good idea to split the genre into to sub-genres:

1. Real MMOS which have full open universe and are instanced only for certain things like dungeons/bosses/story etc.  a game from this section will be called "MMO" / "MMORPG"

2. MMOs which are have a lobby/fancy lobby will be called "PMMO" / "PMMORPG" for Pseudo Massively Multiplayer.

.Diablo 3 is going to be WoW's biggest competitor, imo

For some reason I feel the same..

That's why they try to make Diablo 3 multiplayer enough to be appealing and make communities and less multiplayer than WoW which is the company's primary MMORPG product. Many times Blizzard representatives have emphasized that it's not an MMO. That's because they don't want to make people abandon WoW.

About the new MMO I think its possible...Blizzard always announce their games very, very soon..I dont know if thats good/bad tho:D

At least with WoW they didn't over-hyped it like Myhic did with WAR. So i hope we will have some more details and a couple of "leaked" screenshots :P early on. Hopefully they won't bet everything on this MMO and marketing won't take over and screw the game.

You can say Mythic over hyped WAR but tbh it was a shitty shitty game that's why it failed , Blizzard's new mmo will probably be great doesn't really matter if they hype it too much over years.

Every video I've seen implies that the game isn't going to be open world,

I mean .. it will be open world it's just the world is going to be really small with heavy instancing for story and "voice acting", it will be more of an RPG with mmorpg features, not a real world of star wars.

This could be the worst game ever to be created but people will still be "zomg" if you put cool music and show them a 2 seconds-clips-montage

Torchlight = Yawn.

"Very heavily instanced"

Nice one gj.

I always read news on massively.com

They update their site often..as soon as there's something interesting that comes up in the genre.

The articles on this site are always so official and boring, the only things I enjoyed were some columns about the industry but I basically come here to read the forums.

edit:

Another thing I forgot, your interviews are really boring... you ask alot of questions that no mmorpg-gamer cares about instead of the real intriguing stuff.

I saw the video and it's really obvious to me that the system is not constant enough,

everyday fight for your zone? this will get worn out quickly..they didn't think about it long term.. it will fail.

I played from original and I can honestly say it looks like they said "ppl gonna play no matter what crap you throw at them" ..

tier 1 and tier 2 were really special looking, that was in the time that getting a tier set was actually hard to get.. when I think about it, this actually makes alot sense... it's really easy to get sets now so might as well make it look like crap.

they lost it somewhere along tier 3

The only way I would ever consider buying life time subscription is if I have played a game for like 6 months and don't see myself stopping soon... you have to be a sucker to do it if you only played up to a few weeks.

Kakarotage, not everyone enjoys World of Warcraft or even considers it a quality game.  WoW is nothing new.  Just a basic dungeon raid game only with MMO elements attached.  I have been playing RPGs for over 20 years and every MMORPG out there is seems to be a variation on the classic formula.   STO is another genre altogether, and hopefully it will prove it's worth to the Star Trek franchise.

WoW is a basic dungeon game but it's created with topnotch quality (I'm talking animation, character movement sound etc)

I would be happy to play STO or games in the genre but it's just poorly poorly created.

Lifetime subscriptions -  When you know your game just isn't gonna cut it :)

wondering how linear/instanced it will be since they put a lot of time in it
