Temporary Content and where ANet got it all wrong.
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 5/15/13 5:36:41 AM
Yeah not really interested in temporary content. Seems like a wasted opportunity. Could have been effort spent on new fractals, dungeons or battlegrounds. I know they are different teams, but the resources could have been better spent. I have currently seen all I need to see from GW2. Aside from the odd PvP match, theres really no reason for me to go back and visit, and the Southsun content doesnt really call out to me either. I will probably go back if they add a new continent (Cantha or Elona), as the leveling was enjoyable, but it doesnt really have the same appeal at endgame as GW1 had for me. Basically they need a dungeon revamp and more battleground / arena modes. Also more character customisation. 1 set of skills per weapon is not enough. I was hoping an expansion would have fixed that, but that is apparently on ice. The new skills in the GW1 expansions kept the game fresh. They need that. I think they just focused on all the wrong things. Only thing that has gotten decent love is WvW. |

The next big thing will need to be dramatically different or offer something we havent seen before. WoW did it by making MMOs casual and easy to get into. Wildstar doesnt really offer anything new other than a home for disgruntled WoW players. It will take a piece of the pie like SWTOR did, but it will not be the next big thing. |

F2P trend continues .. Rift going F2P & WOW cited F2P as reason for decline
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/14/13 11:39:36 PM
The real reason F2P does so well is that there is no expenditure cap. With P2P everyone spends $15. Theres no way for people who are willing to spend more to do so. With F2P, players who really love a game or have more disposable income can spend as much as they want. It creates a secondary economy also where players who don't have time to play can use real money to buy items from players who have ample free time (hence contributing to keeping the paying players, even though those players themselves do not directly pay the company). Lets face it, micro-transactions are the way of the future. Music, TV, entertainment... its all moving towards paying for exactly what you want. |

Rift: You Heard It Right - Rift is Going F2P
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/14/13 11:13:41 PM
Storm legion purchasers get a bit shafted. All you get are the new souls, which will probably sell in the cash shop for much less than the expansion, which didnt release all that long ago. They probably should throw in a few more sweeteners for SL purchasers. |

[Interview] Rift: Going Free to Play June 12th

Not surprised. With the quality of F2P competition out there now, I don't think any game can really compete without adapting. WoW will probably go F2P when it dips to 5 million.

Neverwinter Community: What the hell is going on?...
General Discussion « Neverwinter 5/14/13 4:36:39 AM
As I said earlier, find a good guild. Joined an aussie guild on Mindflayer and am having the best experience guild-wise since EQ2. There are really awesome players in this game. Just don't expect to find them in the dungeon finder.

[Column] Neverwinter: Foundry Focus - The Mark of the BtG
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/14/13 4:28:40 AM
As a tool to level up as quick as possible, the Foundry is now redundant. But that was never really the point. Its about the experience and the journey, not the destination. Also its still the best place to get ID scrolls and potions from. Good to do them now and again to top up.

Originally posted by Vapors Pretty much hits the nail on the head. I have seen amazing players from every class. Some classes have a few cheap tricks (rogue daily, I am looking at you), but any class when played well really shines. GWF are often touted as useless, but in PvE they are hands down the best AE DPS. If you aren't topping the dungeon-wide parse as a GWF, its your fault. In PvP a GWF can keep you stun-locked while they kill you easily. They have more CC than a control wizard. Yet people constantly whinge that they are underpowered. Honestly I am more concerned about a well played GWF than I ever am about a rogue. Rogues are easy to dodge and control. GWF are unstoppable. Also GF are fantastic for wasting peoples time in PvP, and are great at holding aggro on adds in PvE. Its true that you dont 'need' one but it makes it so much easier to kill the adds if a GF is controlling them.
Back to the OP: This is the most fun I have had in a game since Everquest 2. And I have played pretty much every MMO since. If they keep up the pace with content and new classes, I will be very happy to make this my new home. |

Originally posted by azzamasin I am always amazed that people think they are qualified to comment on classes / games before they even make it past the tutorial. The cleric and mage both use magic from range. That's about where the similarities end. Everyone can kill stuff in two shots at level 5. Come back at 35. |

Developers have fooled us over the definition of "Pay-to-Win"
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/13/13 12:03:49 AM

Originally posted by anthony21690 Yep this. Although don't expect anything massively out of character like you see in other MMOs. You won't be running around with massive shoulder guards that are completely impractical for a rogue to wear. They stick to the class style, so you will always be in leather with some kind of mask. Also they have a very robust dye system, with 2-3 dyes being able to be used n each armour piece. |

[Dev Journal] Neverwinter: Rob Overmeyer on The Foundry
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/12/13 11:54:01 PM
Originally posted by b00gs See, this is the kind of uninformed rubbish that clutters this forum. 1) You can buy feat respecs with Astral Diamonds. And its not that many either at max level. 5 days of full refining of AD will get you a respec. Or the sale of a single T2 item. 2) Lock boxes have nothing in them that you cant acquire an equivalent of normally. The main drawcards are the pet and the mount, which are more for show. 3) The mounts are account wide and you can get an equivalent speed by simply playing the game. This is just cosmetic.
My character is nearly fully decked out after 2 weeks and spending no real life money (aside from the Founders pack, which didn't help with obtaining end game gear). The mount saved me about 500k AD, although I can earn that many AD in half a day of play at level 60. Its pay to advance quicker. Not pay to win. And if you don't feel like investing time in character development, why bother playing MMOs at all? The only thing that will take any sort of time investment is leveling runestones to the final tier. Which doesnt really boost the stats by an overly impressive amount (so you can use Rank 6 while you grind) and you can boost your chances by earning AD in the meanwhile to buy coalescent wards with.

[Dev Journal] Neverwinter: Rob Overmeyer on The Foundry
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/12/13 9:50:34 PM
Originally posted by anwar Except its not. My main already has 70% of the max tier runes and aside from the Founder pack, I haven't paid a cent in the Zen market. All that the Zen market does is saves time. The best gear in this game is very achievable within a month or two of reaching end game. |

Neverwinter Community: What the hell is going on?...
General Discussion « Neverwinter 5/12/13 9:45:32 PM
Originally posted by Toxia Pretty much this. I gave up on PUGs long ago. Also you will find the Neverwinter dungeon finder to be massively inadequate for epic dungeons. It wont even guarantee a healer or tank, which you actually do need. Although youll find in this game that GFs tank the adds, and rogues just stay on the names. Solution? Find a good guild. As per most games. |
