MechWarrior Online: New Developer Post Addresses Community Concerns
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/13/12 4:42:23 PM
They wanted to push the game "Live" aka the f2p open beta after dropping a major game engine update just on the 9th that basicaly broke the game for many and made it almost unplayable after 5-7 mins into a match with insane lag and fps drops. THe game went from a very limited or feature sparse environment to just not ready and one day later said it's good enough lets announce open beta for the 16th... Well needless to say Many in the closed beta went ape shit ranging from random flames to getting refunds on founder packages to threatening lawsuits. surprisingly the dev's actually decided to push back the open beta. But before anyone gets there hopes up that they will push it back several weeks or even months to get in more features and content before going to "Live" or open beta, the devs pretty much said once the game is stable it's going open. At best we might get 3 more weeks on tweaks before this happens. At worst probably another week or so. the combat is fairly fun and sound. yes there needs to be more balancing passes. but the gameplay modes are limited to exactly one, which is team deathmatch with base capture. |

[Preview] MechWarrior Online: A Rush of Nostalgia

Originally posted by Brew-e Actually one of the largest complaints about the game so far is how diffrent it is from the Table top rule set. from double armor and internal values to modified weapon values from dmg to heat to range to ammo per ton. Being able to equip massive weapons in slots ment for small weapons. boating specific weapon types and pushing mech's way beyond what anyone would of thought possible. Yes they have fixed and tweaked and improved things slowly and the game is definatly getting better as things move forward. but it is no where near or even close to TT rules at this point.... |

Anyone else find the controls to be clunky?

in the sheriff's office there is a vendor you can buy any weapon you want from it, including the blood magic weapon which seems to be bugged in the choose your weapon quest.
shotgun seems to be the best weapon early on as it does good dmg fast and is aoe frontal so you can hit things even if your straffing. and there is no slow down or long activation on the primary skill. most everything else seems clunky compared to the shotgun except some of the point blank weapons like fists or chaos magic but they have almost no range.
the truly long range weapons have a very slow activation on the primary attack which doesnt feel very fluid or natural when you are getting face stomped by a small swarm of mobs or getting hit in the face by an axe wielding zombie. to counter this tho they usally have a higher dmg per activation or some sorta secondary affect.
almost seems like shotgun is the best way to go for solo gameplay and then the rest of the weapons are for group play with various benefits and detriments... this is of course based of very low skill levels no clue what the weapons act like at high skill levels, probably not a whole lot diffrent for the most part...

the power supply should be fine for a single card setup i wouldnt try to sli it tho, or get a dual gpu card.

Aye, too bad we dont know when gw2 is gonna ship either, unless she's trying to get her system ready for the beta weekends. |

if you can wait until the nvidia 660's come out then the price should drop more on the 560's and 560 ti's. tho there are some nice rebates on them allready, but as the next gen gets out the prices will drop further. So my advice wait as long as you can and look for a really good deal or the next price drop on the current gen cards. unless gw2 comes out before said time then just get the best you can afford at the time.
tigerdirect has some great rebates on the 560's right now 160$ for standard 560 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=555335&CatId=3669 can get a ti for around 200 tho the best ti's the 448 core one's are still around 250 |

extremely ridicioulus ? no not really... they should of added that they also dont have the license to sell to said regions and as such couldnt anyways even if they wanted to due to BHS owning the game and not en masse....
but thats a diffrent topic more or less... there is alot of cyber crime from some of those regions but it's not the only reason for the block. |

Did the increase of players devalue the player?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/03/12 11:04:42 PM
Back in the day the main source of information for players was other players. this made for a much healthier and cohesive community. now adays if you havent read guide 1 2 and 3 or watched video a b and c people call you noob and get down right hostile. but then again it's now the norm to send people outside of the game to learn how to play it since the information is so wide spread and so comprehensive. a player can try to help a player but usally guide z42 on site y will usally not only answer the question but teach said player way more and show much higher detailed answer then another player in global chat or tells can allow for.
so i think that the lack of a reliance on other players has partialy contributed to this phenomenon. and of course then you add in the trolls flamers and haters and player interaction has just gone into the toilet for the most part in todays games. |

Originally posted by Sephiroso i'm just upset(minorly so, its not like in in ra3g mode or anything) that i cant put it on my ssd, i like having my games on my ssd but this one just cant fit, i might just buy a bigger one and sell off my 64gb one, ah well. depending on your system you might just want to keep only the os ont he small 64gig ssd and put your high end games on the new one if your gonna go that route. that would remove almost all bottlenecks regarding file access on your games. after that it's all cpu and then gpu, well it's more likely cpu>gpu>hd for tera, unsure where ram falls in line. and if you do have a large storage drive for other stuff can just save your money and just install tera there. i dont think your going to see any real performance hit with this game on a standard drive. |

Originally posted by Tirinas kinda yea, most western gamers go man my fps is low NEW graphics card time. for the first time in a long long time a game is coming out where a better processor is gonna give you more fps gain then a better gpu. it's a new and frightening world we are stepping into. tho i myself was getting ~ 30 fps everywhere with my q6700 and gtx 260 with everything on max minus AA. and ~20 in the capital city probably be 5 or so higher when the pet shops get thrown out. |

haha looks like a giant CF which just about every day one new open world content is for the first few hours/days... |

Originally posted by stormseekaz yea tera is kinda scary on it's cpu req's probably has to do with asian markets being behind in gpu power for the avg user. most games from the asian market put alot more strain on cpu's then gpu. |

the final install is around 25 gigs. the problem is with how the game installs... it downloads basically the whole game in an archive type format which is around 20 or so gigs in how ever many parts like 20-30 parts then once it has all of that on your hd it then extracts IE installs the game properly onto the hd so to install the whole game for the first time from a downloaded source it needs roughly twice the disk space. once it finishes the install it deletes the archive and free's up alot of space. so yes to install you need like 50-60 gigs free once installed it's around 25 gigs.
if you installed from dvd you would not have the issue as the archive is on the disk. not the most efficient method but it works and hd storage is cheap unless your using a ssd and trying to cram every game you play on one. |

pretty sure everyone got it since it only applies to the digital edition bought through them directly. ie they still make more money with the offer then from a person buying a boxed copy from some other retailer. |

Originally posted by rexzshadow pretty sure league of legends is the most sucessful f2p out there but it isnt a true mmo. there's also those farmville games that made zynga millions hand over fist in there massive cash grab. the simple truth is f2p or rather micro transaction based games can do well with smaller player bases simply due to the fact that a few people spend way more then the avg joe who logs and makes the game have a higher profit per active user in most cases... which is why almost all content in said games is centered around the cash shop. |
