I still have fond memories of Rift, however I was just burned out on the "themepark" type of gameplay at the time. I'm looking to get back into this world as they have done so many things right.
One of the things I was looking forward too prior to launch was open world pvp that made an actual difference, as in one faction taking control of the outpost, their vendors, quests, NPCs, ect ect
My question is have they expanded upon this Openworld PVP where it actually mattered? I'm an old school pre-Atlantis DAOC player and nothing I miss more today than open world pvp that made a difference for the faction that took control.
Thanks! |

This is all very good news, I appreciate and enjoyed reading all of your posts. Today was very productive, joined a great clan, and look forward to making the trip to our city sometime tonight.
Thank you again for your replies!

I would assume the possibility of looting something really nice is another great reason to pvp, correct?
(Thanks for the discussion/replies and keeping it civil, keep em coming!) |

Well this is interesting, first 2 replies seem like opposites. I was reading the first reply and was beginning to jump up and down for joy as that's exactly what I'm looking for. Then after reading second reply, there doesn't seem to be much action going on as far as players/clans/alliances fighting for control of areas/resources ect ect...
So which is it? |

I hate to use the cliche: "end game" but I didn't want the subject line to be super long.
I'm enjoying my stay in Darkfall thus far. It is very "sandboxy" with players building and there's a feeling that everything is really controlled by the player and not NPCs. It has a very old school feel to it, and I really like the freshness of old school :) My questions are quite simple and I'm trying to find someone, who has experienced it, that can give a little detail.
#1) While researching DF, I read somewhere about "guilds fighting for control over resources and/or lands". My question: is there sieges, batttles, fighting ect for control of resources? Do guild "stake claim" to areas in attempts to drain the area of resources then move on after it is drained? Is that all true? Details?
#2) Does the "end game" consist of controlling dymanic resource spawns, and controlling land masses? If I'm understanding this correctly can someone provide details about this?
If this is the case I am willing to invest time/money into the game as that type of "end game" I have not had the pleasure of being a part of since the old SWG days or DAOC's olden days of keep seiging for control of artifacts/relics and such. Basically, I'm needing some details on the "end-game" and if replies tell me it's NOT about raiding the same instance dungeons 1000x times for gear then I will jump for joy and rejoice in the name of the MMO gods.
Thank you! |

So question on the combat system for you Beta guys
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 8/24/10 11:42:34 AM
In my opinion, soloing is much easier than before.. however, it is much more beneficial to group with others.
In my opinion this is EXACTLY what it should be like. For example: old DAOC.. I could solo for weeks, but it was MUCH more beneficial to group with others.
This is what I want as I play an MMO to be a part of the "multiplayer" not soloing day in and day out. I have Fable for that :) |

Game runs smooth, graphics look great, FPS Is really high...
All of that being said I can move the mouse from point A to point B and it takes forever for it to catch up. Now I know that everyone has already stated this, and I too have sumitted reports to SE and offered to try anything as this is the MAJOR fallback I have with the game currently.. It drives me freakin' crazy.
My question is, has anyone at all found a magic config change or some magic setting to reduce UI lag to nothing? I sure hope so, because right now it's so annoying that I just simply cannot play. |

Aye, and while I enjoyed AC2 breifly, I lost interest in it and it was nowhere near being as good as AC IMO. I'm comparing it to AC, and calling it the AC2 "Spiritual Successor" to steal bioware's terminology. |

Like said in the posts above me, it shares may aspects of AC but yet is drastically different in areas in which are not the same. Such as the way combat works and so forth. The more I play it the more I feel like a mix between SWG early days and AC. If I were to compare it to anything, it would be some sort of hybrid between those two with combat similiar to the recent game: Borderlands. So far? I'm loving every minute I'm in the game. Like others before me I had all but given up on MMOs until the new StarWars title by bioware comes to town, but now I'm having quite a lot of fun, more fun than I've had in an MMO in a long long time. The main thing I wish, is that there were more focus on grouping, such as camps of elite mobs in which you and your team can jump in and just lay waste to to obtain bonus xp (for being grouped) and more rare drops. |

I've been telling some buddies (from back in the opening days of AC and years invested afterwards) that Fallen Earth is the closest thing to "AC2" That we'll probably ever see. I told them to think of AC in Mad Max's world.
That being said, would you old AC players agree that the character progression, skills, world, environment and overall feel is pretty much ACish and would you all agree with my opening statement?
I just wanted to hear from you old ACers, as I am pretty excited to get an opportunity to try FE and found out that it shares alot in common with my first and only true MMO love: Asheron's Call. |

Just when I thought I was done with the genere, I found Fallen Earth
Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 10/28/09 11:59:37 AM
Yeah, I'm enjoying it to, and like the OP I was pretty much done with MMOs.
Really, the last MMO that I thought was great and a true adventure was DAOC, and before that was AC. Since then I've been dissapointed game after game with brief stays in SWG, WoW, and WaR.
It feels alot like AC to me on how there no classes but yet skills that you can mix and match like you want. I love the AC openness as well, I remember sitting down with a buddy and running from one end of AC to the other and finding caves and dungeons and exploring them along the way. That was such great fun and completely free.
That's the feel I get from FE, freedom. I do not get the feeling that I'm being lead down a certain path upon which I have absolutely no choice on really anything. So yeah, I'm enjoying it to. Now the question is do I go ahead and purchase the game or do I purchase Dragon Age this month, which I've been looking forward to for ages now. |
