I fail to see how being paranoid about random executables that some guy on an MMO forum is telling you to run means you need to learn to secure your computer. [NEW] Invites new players to Darkfall for 30 days to Lean the Game

The concept is absolutely amazing. If they could pull off what they had planned, I have no doubt it would be great. However, despite all the claims going on as though it has already done this, the current reality is far from the case. The game, at the moment, is barely playable in any real sense. This of course would be perfectly fine, were it not for the dreadful rumors floating around that they are essentially out of money again, and have to release this month or abandon ship. I can say with all certainty that if it launches in its current state, the game is doomed. All the potential in the world isn't going to make people sub up to a game that doesn't even have the basics covered yet. It may not be their fault, and I applaud them for trying, but this is the reality. |

I was kind of hoping this would actually release, as it looked to be the only solution to getting a decent space MMO with Eve being the only one at the moment, and Dark Prophecy looks terrible. I guess there's Star Trek Online, but that doesn't look that hot either, and I'm not really into star trek that much. Craaaaaaaaaaap )=. Looks like its back to fantasy then. |

No, I shouldn't, because while I appreciate the game for what it is, the next one is around the corner, and starting from scratch only to switch would be a bit pointless, and the PC client is absolutely god awful which is the only one I would consider using. It's a good game, but I couldn't really recommend it to anyone who isn't already playing let alone someone who's not planning on going the 360/ps2 route. |

Maybe things have changed, but there sure as hell wasn't anything going on when I did. Of course, someone could simply have said "Faction warfare has really picked up" or some such, but then you wouldn't get to be needlessly confrontational which is the good old fashioned Eve community for ya. You say its hard to get into a 0.0 corp (which is false), You're making an assumption that having half the game locked away by a handful of mega alliances is a good thing. What if you want nothing to do with that level of BS? Yeah you can find 0.0 corps that are not part of the powerblocs but good luck doing much with them. you say pirates are griefers (which is false). An assumption. I said people who grief are griefers. Baiting someone with a can to exploit a game mechanic and get a clear to shoot down some noobs mining rig is not piracy. You know nothing (or very little at best) of the game and how its played. Go find another forum to post your complaints in, i mean for someone who doesnt play the game you sure posted alot in this thread. Apparently I must be subbed to every game forum I post in. Sorry, I'll make sure to sub to five or six MMOs to discuss them without being harassed. Seriously, I don't know why I even try having a discussion here. It's always the same five or six knuckleheads reading what they want to read and then circle jerking each other about how great Eve is and how everyone else is wrong for some such reason and is spouting filthy lies. |

@miagisan Oh I know, I wouldn't think about trying to dictate the whole corp myself. But it would still require a bit of time digging around for people with the same goals that can be trusted and building it up. I'm not much for the organizational aspect. Personally I'd much rather find some way to actively contribute to an existing corps growth and expansion. If I did end up going back in it would probably be as logistics of some sort as its infinitely cheaper then trying to field direct combat ships for the most part, and I never really bought into the "oh just get a rifter and tackle stuff", as being bait to be swatted down isn't exactly my idea of contributing.

Want a strange but very cool game? Try The Void. Need to import it though, because as it was originally Russian, and contains full frontal nudity (tastefully!) because Russians don't give a shit, and the US cries a river whenever someone bares a nipple. It's a little difficult, and anyone who's played will tell you right off, you will lose the first time around, but usually you figure it out by the 2nd try and its definitely worth the effort. The games are there, but you are right, I would say that the quality of games overall is on a bit of a decline. Part of it is just that there are more games being shoveled out, but part of it is companies "playing safe" too much, and others milking the everloving fuck out of everything (I'm looking at you Activision. *spits on Kotick*) If you look around enough though, there are plenty of gems to be found, and every once and a while one of the "major" releases won't be completely bland and halfhearted. |

Originally posted by miagisan easy fix, hire a hauler. Most i can haul is 140km3 in my orca, but our corp does have people in frieghters who can move upwards (if i remember correctly) 900k m3 of volume per trip. enough to handle like 3 fully fitted, non packaged battleships. Contract the services, give a decent payout, and you will have haulers jumping on it. You can even charge collateral for your items so that if the hauler fails their contract, or runs off with your items, you keep the collateral....this can all be accomplished via binding contract.
And yeah, you sound like you struck out with the corps you were in.....that can lead to bad experiences. You could also try forming your own corp, and dictate your own rules with like minded individuals. Making a corp would work, but I don't have the time to be investing for that. If I ever did come back, it would likely be as a support role. That was another problem I had. Half the time I ended up missing any of the (few) OPs that were going on because I was at work or some such /=. MIssions/mining were the only thing available on short notice. Never really looked into the hauling route, mainly because it seemed like a waste of isk as I have enough for it to be a pain in the ass, but not enough that its worth paying for rather than just making the trips. That and getting isk has always been somewhat of a problem, though I think this extends back to the corp thing as I've had plenty of opportunities, but no cooperation to take advantage of them. |

Originally posted by miagisan Every once and a while I hear stories like this, and I wish I could relate. Last time I jumped in was when T3/Wormholes were implemented. I decided to give up trying to get involved in PvP and joined a corp which claimed to be doing exploration and such. Well, a month and a half goes by and I end up bailing the game again as I find myself running missions for isk once more as thats all I can convince anyone else in the corp to do, and the several times I tried to convince them to follow me in to a WH to do something (I managed to convince one person once /=) mostly resulted in some bullshit excuse about WHs being too pants shittingly dangerous so nothing ever happened.
Time before that was when faction warfare went in, which seemed like a fun idea, but ended being a fun idea when I literally spent two hours warping in circles with a large group finding absolutely nothing, and then logging out, and the same repeating for then next few weeks.
Before that I was in a corp trying to go out into nul space which I only managed to join them at once, and proceeded to get popped at the gate camp that apparently changed hands every few seconds a number of times every other time, joy, resorting to missions to get enough isk to actually be able to fly something larger than a rifter again. The one time I did make it out there the POS was rather boring and uneventful as it was too dangerous to actually leave/bring things to it, and it was just a bubble and some towers floating in space. You can see why my experiences have left me with a less than impressive outlook /= EDIT: As a side note, I think Eve would be much more enjoyable if it didn't feel quite so binding. And by binding I mean, moving all your crap. You feel like you're stuck in the same small cluster of stars forever because moving to another one means spending days hauling a billion modules and ships half way across the universe, and then you have to do it again if you don't want to sit in that new location for the rest of forever. It's nigh on impossible to be nomadic without a large enough wallet to just leave everything behind and forget about it, but there isn't really anything to make you want to stay in a particular spot. |

Unfortunately it's going to be done for the consoles, which is either going to attract a terrible community or make the game largely ignored because its not COD/Halo. I still don't know why they're reaching out to the console base exclusively for an extension to a PC game. Well, I know partially its because they want to reach and "untapped market" and at the same time try to goad console players into playing Eve as well, but ultimately I think it's going to fail on both fronts, but will probably hold up well enough to stay a part of Eve. Most Eve players are willing to shell out for a 2nd account, so I can't imagine they wouldn't shell out to have their own personal DUST character as well. |

I'm not saying that everyone who's playing Eve secretly hates the game and they just don't know it yet. I met plenty of people who found nothing but absolute joy in doing nothing but mining the crap out of asteroid belts. Thats great and all, but the reasons for doing such essentially amount to just getting more isk. Personally, I've been looking for the longest time for at least two of three things. 1: A dynamic and changing game world. One that you can contribute to, and have the world respond and change in kind. 2: A game with considerable variety and depth in what can be done. Community features, guild features, mini games, etc (Housing, mount/vehicle customization, detailed crafting, etc etc) Basically, considerable things besides "Level, get gear". 3: An interesting setting/game world that isn't an afterthought. With Eve its difficult, because it seems like it fits all of those, and yet none of them at the same time. - It's dynamic, but only so much in relation to system control, which is highly monopolized by a select few, and the actual effects on the game are minimal besides the inability to go into the particular areas claimed . - There is depth, as you can't really deny that between drug running, pirating, mining, research, industry, trading, etc there is a great deal of roles, but all of them are very "serious business" activities. Basically, theres really no fluff to the game. Even exploration, something that should be exciting and interesting becomes a chore of going in circles and mapping down the same randomly generated sites in the same local systems over and over. If walking in stations ever does appear, I think this might actually take hold though. The personal space, the avatar, the minigame in the bar, while trivial, actually gives the game a bit of warmth that it's sorely lacking at the moment. - The last bit almost doesn't even apply. The lore and story to Eve are great. I've read just about every single chronicle that's available. However, taking place in space and all, there really is no "game world" to anchor you to the game, the lack of an avatar being a double whammy. They've finally improved that a bit by changing up the planets and the stars, but overall just by sheer virtue of the scale the game is at, none of the areas really have any identity, and it feels like you're moving from one empty block to the next, and nothing about it really pulls you in.
And I've gotten a bit off track. But the short of it is, ultimately, I agree with you, but I end up constantly being on the defensive as I can't seem to ask the question "What makes Eve more than just *this*" without the Eve Defense Force raining hell down upon me, instead of answering with the information they're always claming they have but seem so reluctant to actually reveal. |

Unfortunately, they can't scale things back now without causing a shitstorm, so anything of any appreciable scale is generally half assed and takes forever. * I find more to do in this game than probably all of the other mmorpgs i have played combined, and that's including almost 5 years of swg* People keep saying this, and they can never give me an answer that doesn't seem to involve a creative variation of A: Collecting money B: I get joy from being a dick I mean, theres no character progression or customization. Theres very little in the way of "goals" you can make up that doesn't involve simply creative ways to fill your wallet which is a bit shallow, and the majority response seems to care less about territory control (which lets face it, is really only for the top alliances in the game anyway) and more about finding it fun randomly going around and ganking people because their tears give you sustinence, which I guess is a goal, but also means that the game isn't exactly fun if being a dick constantly isn't your idea of a great time. So I'm being honest here, what are all these new and interesting "things to do" that are not in other games that don't fall into the above two categories? No character progression or customization? Seriously? A and B? Honestly, you're quite blatantly oversimplifying things. Stop comparing EVE to the other games you've played, and stop looking at things from the perspective of character classes, 'holy trinity', and raids. Stop crying about players killing other players. KILLING ANOTHER PLAYER IS NOT GRIEFING. Killing another player is PvP, which is a FEATURE of the game. And if you are going to cry about getting killed by another player, then DON'T PLAY A PVP GAME. Honestly, I was ready to give you more of a response until I read that, because it seems like you regard all PvP as negative gameplay. So why do you even WANT to find something to do in this game? Everything in the game is linked to PvP in some way shape or form. Assumptions. You assume I hate PvP and that I consider ALL PvP to be griefing (even though I did specify there was a difference between organised warfare and such in the post). My point was motivation, and what most Eve players tend to describe as "fun" when asked how exactly is Eve entertaining, or what there is to do in Eve. Most come back with suggestions to gank people in high-sec or bait people with cans or various other activities that really serve no motive other than to be a cock. Faction warfare, great (on the rare occasions it actually happens) alliance warfare? Would be great if it wasn't secluded away by the powerblocs as, while available to just about anyone, it serves little purpose than a massive isk sink as theres no rhyme, reason, or goal behind it without some kind of territory control. The fact that kill mails are so highly valued proves that people care more about attacking individuals, simply for the sake of doing so. Personally, I can't see a reason to bother with that as it dumbs the game down to a very very slow and non-twitch based space deathmatch.
Everyone here is so quick to scribble down points of contention and then scream and yell and rattle their sabers in the sky! If what I'm saying is so false, so absurd, why is it so difficult to simply set me right with the truth, unless I've already said it? |

You can generalize any game and their aspects and make it look as devoid of content and basic as you see fit. The fact that you say there is no "character progression or customization" shows that you have no idea what you're talking about. The game is focused on training and increasing skills and whatever you see fit, the same as you can outfit ships and loadouts the way you want to with only some basic skill requirements. Character development isn't solely how good of gear you can obtain (lol purple text) it's but a small part of total possible character progression in RPGs. Honestly, I hate the gear grinding focus that get passed off as an excuse for "character progression" in most MMOs. I'm aware of the skill system, but nothing you're actually doing in the game contributes to that progression anyway since its strictly based on real time and basically waiting. You can say a character is "customized" because of the type of skills they've chosen, but really, the differences are minimal, and not readily noticeable outside of the fact that they can fly a particular ship, which in the end usually becomes a matter of isk rather than time to train. You still haven't given me an answer by the way, and I'm honestly curious. You're floating around in the middle of nothingness so there isn't exactly a "world" to get immersed in, and lore extends as far as the webpage. T3 ships were a step in the right direction, but once again more or less are a feature most people will never be on anything but the receiving end of. The exploration factor is trivialized the same way it is in every MMO in that it's charted and becomes old hat within a week of its implementation. Stations would add a considerably amount of depth where there currently is none if for no other reason than actually providing a sense of identity in the game, rather than existence as a thumbnail and endless march of identical ships. Ands its nothing personal with Eve, I'm quite sick of games taking place in completely static game worlds (megacorp X removing their ships from blank empty space 1 to blank empty space 2 doesn't make the game dynamic) and character progression being strictly based on gear/skills/levels in general. But most other games at least have some distractions, and though everyone continues to claim that "Eve has the most things ever!" they never elaborate. Speculative theory being that its impossible to get a straight answer from anyone who's seriously playing the game, as it requires heavy investment of personal time, and the admission that greed and power are the only motivating factors to do anything in the game and that the game play with all the creative fantasy removed is rather shallow, would be soul crushing.

Most of the cheapness in CCP's game is easily addressed with VERY little effort,it is apparent they are or were putting little effort into making the game improve. The only thing you get is added things they can charge you for.The player base deserved all updates and expansions for FREE,just for sticking by an unbelievable cheap release, nope they are getting rich off these fanbois.Even with all the content that is now in EVE,it is IMO still not near the game it SHOULD have been on RELEASE several years ago, that is how slow and pathetic CCP is.

The worst thing they've ever done was when they essentially diverted all customer support from the regular servers to a new "premium server" and started charging people $30 a month (back when the normal fee was $9.99) for "premium customer service" and various other things that amounted to thinly veiled RMT. Fortunately that only lasted about a month or two before it got cut for lack of interest. I can only wonder why... |
