Looks cool. However, how cool is this really going to be after playing through the same senario 10,000 times?

If you play through it 10,000 times it must be really, really cool.

I'm wondering the same things. It does look cool, but how fun is a raid going to be when it's just a raid with a Star Wars skin? Even the first time it's still the same old stuff - learn the dance, do the dance, do the dance over again until you learn the next part of the dance...and so on.

I wonder if they'll have information on their end game PvP stuff.

The "dance" you talk about it is one of my main complaints with raids. Everything is set up just so, without alteration, and the key to victory is memorizing steps. Go through a raid once or twice and it's fun, but then you learn the moves and it becomes more like watching a movie with you hitting your keyboard every now and then as opposed something you're actually engaging with in real time. Your need to pay attention is minimal as once you know the moves there's little if anything to catch you off guard, and the need for on-the-fly strategy changes to account for dynamically shifting events and enemy tactics is non-existent.

It has to be this way, because 95% of MMO players are morons. Much like humanity in general.

If they can't polish the game in 8 months of beta, they were doomed anyways. An 8 month beta is "long" these days. The engine is the one used in AoC, so that saves them from having to "test" that aspect of it, as it is continiously tested in AoC. The game has been in development for a long time, so I don't worry about that. I worry about them trying to cram what was obviously broken "open PvP" areas onto PvE'ers by sticking PvE resrouces into them exclusively (Anima for crafting). PvP in MMORPG's have been the downfall of too many. MMORPG's suck at PvP (outside of the balanced arena stype/battlefield etc).

Playing a banana has never a-peel-ed to me.

Hah. I'm so funny.

But seriously, I didn't grow up dreaming to become an ambulatory onion-man. Super heros? Sure. Aphid-bait botanical freaks? Not so much.

Makes me want to get out the weed-killer...

World PvP = gank a newbie? What is "World PvP"? The actual fighting in and out of a battleground is the same, so.... how is "World" PvP going to look different except instead of 4 on 4 it is 4 on 1?

World PvP actually makes the war between the 2 sides feel like a war?  Fighting over a copy of an area that nobody can wander into or through feels a bit meaningless.  God forbid someone might be inconvenienced during a war.

Honestly this is the same recycled crap that has been spun off over and over again in every MMO since WoW that has landed all of them in the bargin bin in 3 months.  WAR, AoC, Rift, etc. - how the people financing these games do not see this trend is insanity.

So, you're saying, it IS ganking a newbie. Ok. As for how they are financing these things, its easy. PvE pays the bills. PvP doesn't.

Two words for this "MMO": Totally uninterested.

As others have said, if I can't make a character, what's the point?

This would have been worth reading if he'd talked about stuff that mattered, like how the CSM is a joke, and CCP thinks its players aren't bright enough to figure out what CCP is doing making a $70 monocle.

Instead we get an AAR of some meaningless battle.   I want my 2 minutes of life back!

Probably a troll, but I will bite anyway.

The fate of tens of thousands characters (ie the whole CF coalition) was hanging on the outcome of this "meaningless battle" . Your definition of "meaningless" is a most curious one. Also the meme about the uselesness of the CSM should be finally put to rest by now. They are not the allmighty saviours, but they surely have an impact and it takes a lot of narrow-mindedness or downright idiocy not to see it.

And to White Tree - great blog, keep it up.

All those characters would have been deleted had they lost?!?! When did Eve institute permadeath???

Oh wait, they didn't. So, in fact, it was a meaningless battle to the thousands of non-CF characters in the universe. And mostly meaningless to the CF characters.

I stand by "meaningless". I've been around since m0o, the names change, the alliances change, yet the meaninglessness of the battles remains the same.

Early November is typically the time for big splash items to become available for holiday purchase. Note Skyrim's "11/11/11" release. It wouldn't surprise me to find SWTOR coming out the same day. I already ordered the CE for SWTOR, and I love the Elder Scrolls games too, so I'll have to pre-order that too now.

I, for one, welcome our new announcement of the announcement overlords.

 Lay off the history channel.

Eyewitness accounts and topnotch historians are not good enough for you? I guess people should believe some random persons post on the Internet over them eh?

Most allied tankers in europe would call every tank they saw a "Tiger". Even the PZ4's. History channel likes dramatic stories, and they tell them. They are not always very factual however. If you really want grognard views of things, try the ww2 online forums where the whining over the Tiger makes this seem trivial. They whine about the paint job, they whine about the fact it doesn't have the later commander's cupola, they whine about how shattergap isn't modeled (Does any WoT player even know what that is?).

Those grognards will be more than happy to provide the real ww2 research to prove their points of view. Lets just say if you were to mention "History Channel" as your source, you'd be laughed off the forum.

My most amount of fun comes when I play my KV in tier 5. Sometimes I'm on top of the list, and sometimes I'm stuck in tier 9 battles. It does not matter. In fact, I earn more xp when I go up against the tier 9's.

Why?

One number and two words:

152mm DERP GUN (Loaded with all HE, never use AP in these types of guns)

Even the big guys fear that thing. Sure, it won't (usually) insta-pop a 4502, but it will take 20% of his HP away. Even the mighty maus is about 19% or so per shot. And just hitting ONCE is a giant amount of xp and cash. Hit them up close for even more xp (the closer you are, the more xp you get per damage). And before you say it, I'll say it:

"But it fires so slow! You're a one shot cannon!"

And that one shot kills tier 5's and below, and makes tier 6's and 7's wish they hadn't shown their face, and eats away at tier 8, 9, 10 faster than their own guns do (barring the 152's on the russian td's, etc).

The trick to firing more shots is NOT playing like a heavy tank in the KV, as it is fragile. Sure, it can bounce little tank guns fairly well, but the big guys can 1-2 shot you if you show them your face too long.

I've had a mission where I had 10 kills (10 shots, 10 kills, won sniper and top gun lol) in the thing. I won some medal I can't remember the name of for being the last guy alive on my team and killing the last 6 on their side solo (some were damaged, to be sure). My "losing" missions typically still net me 600-800, sometimes more (and sometimes less, sure I die in one shot to arty like everyone else).

1) Use your teammates as meat shields if they are higher level than you. If you're top dog in a match, then you should be able to charge forth, but it still helps to keep friends around to make your enemy "pay" if they want to shoot at you while you reload.

2) Keep near buildings or rocks that let you take cover after you take your shot. That's where the friends come in. You want that enemy to think twice about chasing you just because he knows you're reloading and can't fire back.

3) Don't take low percentage shots. Sure, you'll miss, but if you do, make sure you can hide while you reload. Taking a 300m shot at a moving tank is fine, he won't get to you before you reload. Taking a shot at a tiny portion of a moving tank 30 meters away is suicide.

Its the tank I play when I get frustrated with sniper arty or getting into too many tier 10 battles with idiots as teammates. It always makes money. It almost always brings a smile to my face. I win over 61% of my battles in the thing, I have nearly a 3:1 K/D ratio in it.

For added enjoyment, play with 2 friends in KV's as well. Even in the tier 9 battles, we're a force to be reckoned with. Turning a corner and getting derped by 3 152's is a painful experience for ANY tank ;).

I've been doing some research, and ran three accounts each using one of the three nations represented per account. In other words... One account had all Russian tanks, another US tanks, and the third German tanks.  What I found is that the Russian tanks are hard to kill, insanely accurate, are cheaper to research and buy than the other two nations. The developers claim that their tanks (bear in mind, these guys are Russians, so it should be self explanatory) are "known" for their sloped armor, despite the well known fact that their armor is paper thin, all their tanks are lightly armored, their tanks shouldn't be able to hit the broad side of the barn 100% of the time, and look like cigarette cartons on tracks.

Apparently, they forgot that the German's Tiger series tanks were nearly the reason we all were almost speaking German. If it wasn't for the allies cutting off the supply lines, those things would have rolled right over us. Hence the well known fact that German tanks were heavilly armored, and had an insane amount of accuracy. Which the Russian developers refuse to admit to.

If you want my opinion, just forget about this game. They will never fix the balance despite the claim that they have that there are over 10k people on their servers at any given time. (Which, as we all know, is a flat out lie. If there were, the matches would be better balanced.) If you insist on sticking around, then go for it. Other than that, have fun with the 12 year old punks that infest the game and the forums.

Lay off the history channel. The tiger was a failed design overall. It broke down a lot. It was too heavy/wide for many of the bridges in Europe. It had flat armor (only slightly sloped) and it was "only" 100mm, which was impressive in 1941 and early 42, it was't that impressive in '43 and later when the 17lber came out for the Brits (And the 76.2mm M1 and the Russian 122mm).

It had a good gun and optics. But over much of europe (not the steppes of russia), it wasn't that useful to be able to shoot at 2km. Allied air power in 1944 and 1945 meant that sitting out in the open was suicide, so having a gun that could penetrate the enemy at 2km wasn't very useful. There were 2K tiger's built. There were over 50K shermans built. About as many T-34's and its variants. Even if the tiger had a 10:1 K/D ratio, they were facing 50:1 odds just against the "mediums", no mention of all the TD's and russian Heavy tanks (KV/IS). And of course, many of them were "lost" because their crews had to abandon them as they broke down and the enemy was coming. The Panther was similarly fated (overly complex, prone to break down, especially the transmission, which is fatal to a tank, unless you want to die in a metal coffin).

Nah, it'll be "Our game is built around the "Story" pillar."

Ya know, I don't usually comment on things like this , but it would be nice for bioware to have these playtests here in Canada. Considering most of their studios are here.

Caribou and moose can't type very well. :)

Besides, it's being developed at BioWare Austin (Texas) anyways.

I want to be a fireball hurling multiple samurai as an auto attack. With a AOE Ninja explosion.

Thats pretty worring. So your forced to alt tab, do that in AoC which uses the same engine is a sure fire way to get your comp to instacrash.

I've alt-tabbed AoC since it came out without a problem... sounds more like your video card/drivers than the game engine.
