Diablo 3 is easy...errr wait...no it's not..errr yes it is..wait..noo...
General Discussion « Diablo 3 5/22/12 9:37:31 PM
Is it too easy? Yes. Is it not easy? Yes. How can it be both easy and not easy? Yes. That above statement made no sense. Yes. Ok, now we are getting somewhere. Yes. ----------------------- Playing through normal difficulty, I found the game way too easy. I could literally not even look at the computer and hold left click and win, any fight. Boss fights were incredibly easy, solo, or with a full group (of the huge number of 4). Then nightmare came. First act? This is easy I thought...until I came to those damn unique mobs. Those suckers are harder than any boss in the entire game. Putting out lasers that go in circles, have life-drain ground AOE-s and all sorts of other stuff. I have seen more people die to these Unique mobs than any boss encounter. (OK, I will admit I am only up to act 2 in nightmare.) I am very happy by this increase in difficulty, as it being so easy turned me off. I thought to myself, (Great this is so wowified that I can look away from the computer and still win without any chance of dieing). However, the game is still very easy at other times. The boss battles are entirely way way way way way way way too easy. Did I say they are way to easy? Perhaps they get more difficult in nightmare, but my experience with the act 1 boss on nightmare made me yawn. All the sub-bosses made me yawn. Uniques much? I get so many uniques I don't even look at some of them anymore. They instantly become sold to the vendor because I have enough blacksmithing mats that I could make anything I want 10x over. I need gold, not crappy uniques. I am still enjoying the game...at times. When it is difficult, I play more. When I start playing and nothing is challenging, then I quit playing. Personally, the game feels watered down, with the coolest aspects being the torture equipment in the various dungeons that can be activated. Also, the fact that you can destroy the same equipment is pretty cool. Beyond that, I feel the game is catered to a crowd who wants their hand held still. Sure it can get difficult, which I like...but no more town portal scrolls? no more identify scrolls? I havee more potions than I could ever use and find myself dropping stacks because i get so many new better ones that there is no need to hold onto the old ones. I do not see how a real world auction house could work for anything. I have yet to see a green, the one legendary item I got sucked so much that I sold it to a vendor. Perhaps more will come later on in nightmare or hell, but right now, I still feel the game is too easy, save from those blasted unique mobs and their crazy abilities. |

If you bought a box version like I did, the code should be on the game DVD sleeve. If it's not there, I would return it to the place you bought it and complain. I had digital versions of games btw, I would much rather have the CD where I don't have to download the game and then install it. |

I have an EVGA 570 I got from newegg...well, it's my second one...and it is known to have issues, and i've had a bit of issues with it...including it blowing up... So I don't know if EVGA 680 has similar issues? |

It's hard to say what is exactly right to do in an MMO since everyone has their own opinion, heck even the people who wish to have a harder game have their own varying opinions of what the game should be like. I just wish there was more innovation and less immitation, but with innovation comes risk, but with risk also comes great reward...or failure. |

If you have ever had to run manually across the original Karanas in everquest, you would know what I am talking about. People are way too spoiled now adays and with the ME generation and their sense of entitlement, (which MMOs seem to cater to, easier games = more $$ it seems) it is unfortunate that us who would perhaps a "longer/more difficult" mmo can't have it due to the fickleness of the new MMO players. Sure, there might be enough "hardcore" players who wish to have difficult challenging leveling, maybe taking 3+ months to reach the level cap, but when a game like this comes out, they get seperated into different servers, with all the filler people being the Flavor of the Month people who then leave and cause servers to implode, thus causing the game to enter a downward spiral. "What?!?!! No dungeon finder tool?!? OMG!~ THIS GAME BLOWS!"...yes, because you base a game on how easy it is to level/find groups. When did it stop being about the adventure and start being about instant gratification in which everything is handed to you so you can complain a month after release about lack of content and nothing to do. (open betas help move this month window to about 2 weeks, since open betas allow everyone to figure out how to level the quickest/most efficient, ignoring the rest of the game, then complaining there is nothing to do when they reach the top.) |

I wonder if it's because in Europe, don't they "abhore" violence, but promote sex? Example: More sex/boobs are shown on TV than in the US. While in the US, we "abhore" showing boobs on T.V., but promote violence. ------ I don't know for sure, but it seems America is all about the violence, while Europe is all about the sex. |

What old MMOs had that new MMOs will never have

The only time this actually was a good thing was on the Team-PvP server when I was told ghoulbane quest started in the troll land (I was a dwarf) and I was pursued by about 12 trolls for a good 30-45 minutes. (This is when you had corpse runs, when you died, you had to go retreive your corpse in order to get your items back, otherwise it would rot and you would lose everything.) So I would zone, and the trolls would zone, but they would zone in before me, then zone back thinking I hadn't zoned in yet, so when I finally would zone they would be there and I would just zone back into the other zone. Finally when none were they I took off down the zone in which they weren't. I wouldn't be surprised if they had kept zoning back and forth looking for me. |

Most awesome scene you have been on a mmorpg ??

I would say one of the first few weeks of DAoC release. The highest level in Hibernia was probably 40 with most of us being level 10-25. We decided to raid a Midgard keep, with about 250 of us... Many of us died, but in the end, we nearly got the lord down...until the server crashed...(we had crashed the server) Many angry "bug reports" were sent demanding that us Hibbies should own the keep we were robbed of. |

Well, EQ2 is currently Free to Play, well, limited Free to Play, so you could always just try it out and if you get into it, make some friends, then maybe pay to play. EQ2 is a solid game. |

Kinda reminds me of Kedge Keep in good ol' classic Everquest. A zone entirely underwater. Was quite the fun experience. (Still is if you are willing to play everquest...and now at least you don't have to deal with it being exceptionally difficult...IE corpse runs and such.) Sounds interesting though. But if everyone can just breathe underwater "magically" without a casted spell or breathing mechanism, might seem kinda silly, but I suppose worse has been done in MMOs. Even if everyone can somehow breathe underwater without any aid, the idea still seems pretty cool. |

Should players have the right to access Beta testing prior to launch/release of a game?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/14/12 4:54:34 PM
Beta testing is a hot button for me, and I think that they should be very limited. Companies need to pay people minimum wage to internally test their games. Open/closed betas just don't seem to work as well as they intend, and of course, leaks happen. I will list several, personal, reasons as to why I don't like open betas, or big betas. It IS a marketing ploy that almost ALWAYS fails horribly. Let me explain why I say it fails and doesn't work. A:) People see the game, play the game, THEN decide they don't want to purchase it. This, in my opinion, leads to less sales because these same people would most likely puchase it anyways just to try it out. This leads me to my second point. B:) Beta testers use up all the content. In beta, well, in these "new AAA title betas" users are able to experience most if not all of the game content, in beta. They experience this content while it is buggy, thus causing them anger and pleasure at the same time depending on how the bug affects them. Let me elaborate further... B1:) When people experience all the content in beta, they witch and moan when the game actually comes out. They reach the top tier level within a week - a month, depending on the player because they have already experienced everything in the game, they know the secrets/best spots to level, and they do it super fast to be "#1 (insert class". After this happens, they complain. They complain about everything. You can refute this, but look on any forum a month or two after release, People Are Complaining, People are leaving, not in small numbers, but in large numbers. B2:) A company gets excited and releases 100 servers on launch day. While this is good, and it appeases the gamers initially, a good percent of them generally crumble ruining the experience for everyone else on the server. Too often companies cut and cut to make a few unhappy gamers happy, but these unhappy gamers who were unhappy initially then got appeased are most likely to become unhappy later on, continiously ruining the gaming experience for everyone else who is involved. C:) People don't actually report bugs. OK, some people do, but the majority? They are in it for the "trial". They are in it to find out all the secrets, to find out how to be number 1 on launch day, how to be so good that they can talk crap on the actual new players. I understand you need to "stress test" servers, but honestly...with so many MMOs out, do you REALLY need to stress test? Can they not learn from previouse experience and know what their servers can generally handle? I am sure each game is different and I am no pro game tech person by any means, but aren't MMO servers...MMO servers?
I have been in my fair share alpha beta tests, closed beta tests, and open beta tests. I have been MMO gaming since 1999 and after so many years of MMO gaming, testing and what not, this is my personal conclusion that I have come to. Beta tests should be limited, if not internal, and people honestly should not complain when they don't get their "free trials in order to see how to level the fastest then complain when they get to top level and are bored." Refute this all you want, but in my opinion this is the number one thing that I hate about betas. People use up all the content, then witch and moan about nothing to do. This ruins the experience for everyone else that enjoy the game because they bail, make servers empty, ruin the economy and generally provide a bad attitude that influences the community that they are in. Sorry about the long post, but yep!

Star Wars: The Old Republic: v1.2 Arriving 4/12
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/11/12 4:49:01 PM
"and face off against your foes (or your allies) in Novare Coast, a new Warzone" Annd they continue to "future proof" ToR by making sure you will always have someone to fight. Why cross-realm and fight your actual sworn enemy when you can continue to fight your friends on your unbalanced servers. I wonder how else they will "future proof" the game so when people begin leaving they can still give their players a sense of "hey this game isn't failing, see PvP ques up all the time!". It's always good though that they add more content, but I just feel they are adding content in a manner that will preserve the idea that the game is doing well population wise. Which i suppose is a good strategy. |

Dark Age of Camelot: Wayback Wednesday with DAoC Devs
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/11/12 4:40:28 PM
I would say that while populations may not have always been balanced, the beauty of a 3 sided game is that (though maybe against the rules) sides would band together to fight the FOTM machine. I have fond memories of us Hibbies and Albions allying for a good for few weeks to take down the Midgard machine, or perhaps Hibbies and Midgard to take down the Albion machine. Rarely though did I ever notice Hibbies have more than anyone else. Playing since '99, this was and still is my favorite game ever. It is unfortunate as many say that ToR messed everything up. More unfortunate still was me trading my daoc account of 4 years for an Everquest account after ToR came out. Still wish I never did that, I probably would be playing it now if I had not traded it away... |

This game definitely is a bit different. Has a decent amount of players at the moment, but could always use more! The turn based combat is interesting, and it has a little depth with working to better your particular nation, whether it is opening up mines, controlling the ecosystem, challenges, taking over islands (not as fun as it might sound though). I have been enjoying it for some months now though, canceled my ToR sub after 1 month. It is just a nice change of pace. 6$ a month isn't too bad. |

I have been MMO gaming since 1999, and I never have used xfire, nor many of my friends who play online games even knows what it is. Xfire is less known than ventrillo, less known than even teamspeak I would guess.
The fact that anyone basis any sort of credible information off of xfire is laughable at best. I am not even 100% sure what xfire is either. Maybe a program like steam that tracks how much time we waste in games, then has some number crunching program that spews out more numbers to give some kind of information to the people who go to and use the website? Either way, it's your choice to use it, but if you were to try to use Xfire as a credible source for an actual academic argument I do not see it as being a very credible source. |

SWTOR - Do they need a reverse NGE
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/26/12 3:24:12 PM
lol I was calling for this a week into playing it. I was thinking...we need a NGE to be what pre-NGE star wars was! Then of course everyone is like (this game is perfect/everything I want), but hey, to each their own.
