Hardcases's advice is good, join a squad if you want to experience the game to it's fullest.  BKB is a good squad for newbies to join as they are commited to training new players and will give you some good experience.

The only one thing i can think of for joystick and AFVs is that you can use hats for looking around on comanderless german tanks.

Flying yes. Most definitely.

Thanks for the tip, i'll give that a try.

It's a great game.  The learning curve is steep so joining a squad is probably the first move you should make.  This is easily accomplished through the squad tab where recruiters place adverts you can click to join.  The walking thing is probably from about 5 years ago.  Now you spawn into mobile spawn points which are close to the battle but you still need to exercise patience and caution when approaching.  If you go charging headlong towards the action you'll hear a shot and be dead pretty quick.

Give the free trial a go, that'll give you enough time to decide if it's for you or not.  I'd also pick up a cheap joystick if you want to experience everything this game has to offer as driving / flying is pretty hard (impossible) without one.

The 6150 is onboard (integrated) graphics.  As I said before, getting a discrete graphics card would be your best bet as the performance of the integrated gpus is poor.

you'll be able to run it, probably medium settings.  This board is slightly better than a 6800, but not as good as any of the 7600 and up series video boards.

if you can spring for a new video board, disable that onboard video card and put in a 7800 or something like that.  Theyre just over $100

I don't think so.  The 6150 is just the integrated version of the 6200 (with turbo cache).  As far as I know it only has 2 pixel pipelines and the 6800 will just walk over it, as would any halfway decent discrete graphics card.  If you want to play any modern 3d games at a decent resolution you need a real graphics card, integrated just doesn't cut it.

You could try running the non-SSE executable.

Open the settings program (Settings.exe in the \Program Files\CRS\Battleground Europe\ directory) and uncheck the 'run SSE2 executable' box at the bottom.  That fixed the same symptoms for me when I was running Vista.

This is what happens when time played rather than skill is the biggest discriminator in a game.  You might be happier playing Online FPS or RTS games where player skill decides the outcome, not just whoever can grind the longest.

edit to add:  I've never really been too bothered about this when I play MMORPGs.  As long as i'm having fun I don't give a hoot what anyone else has.  It doesn't affect my game time so why should I care?  It's just a video game, after all.

If you ban macros what's to stop them just making a simple script to do the same thing from outside the game?  I'm no programming wiz (actually very far from it ) but I could easily knock up a quick script to spam chat.  I don't think banning macros would really affect the spammers but might hurt the genuine players that actually use them.

I've shut down and restarted the launchpad a few times already this evening and it hasn't helped much.  It's now sat at 12 hrs 24 mins left after restarting and I don't doubt it'll take that long as it took nearly two days to download it all last time (including stalls).

This is really pissing me off now.  I re-installed XP but, not wanting to have to re-download the whole thing again, made sure I kept all the .tre and patch files.  So i load everything into the SWG deirectory, start launchpad and it decides it needs to download some files (that are already there) and will take 22 hours.

I'm tempted just to say f**k it and find something else to play.  Anyone know of a way to speed this up?

There's nothing out at the moment that i'd even consider paying $30 / mo for ($14.99 is stretching it for most of them).  100k subscribers gives an income of 1.5 million per month, that's 18 million per year.  If they can't make a decent game with that then I don't think the extra money will bring any changes other than to the bottom line of the company.

Just bear in mind that you can't buy originality, innovation or talent and that's the area this industry seems to be lacking in at the moment.

The thing that helped me with my connection problems was getting rid of the QOS service from my network connection.  As far as I know it's pretty much pointless anyway and I very rarely get disconnected from the game now.  There's a post by one of the Rats about it on the support forum:

I'd check your Program Files folder as in my experience when you uninstall some games they don't delete the data, just the registry entries.

WWII Online is pretty good.  It's slower paced than most FPS i've played and is a bit more tactical.  You can get a free trial here:
