Would be interesting to abolish grouping systems from games entirely and give players more the feeling that the population of players is thier group.

I don't know about you but i know many instances that require a group of people, the easyest that comes to mind is group-sports ?

Or generaly  "Work"

But "Checkthis500" made a point wich made me change my view abit (just alittle) on the system, but we will know for sure when we have tried it ...

"Little has changed in the last five years with this type of quest mechanic. One of the things Warhammer Online is trying to do is break this mold of individual questing and give players a chance to accomplish their goals together. Don’t get me wrong, many of the quests in other games call for a group to aid you in completing them, but what if you are always a solo player? How can you take part in group activities?"
So by dumping down the game to make it even more a singleplayer experiance, why bother to build a community if nothing isn't really neccesary, did the majority of gamers became that numb that they actualy lost way's in how to communicate by trying to make a group or find one. The moment i heard about the game i was pretty exited, but the more details they are revealing the more i beginning to dislike this game. Might be getting to old for games like this, i bet if i was still in my teens i would love the game.

Fastleveling, grind, lvl XX in XX days WOOHAAA......., i do wonder if some of you actualy played mmorpg's atleast thats not the way i thought mmorpg where ment to be played, why is it that most comments reflect singleplayer game behaviour, i was hoping (and still am)that Vanguard would leave out that sort of playstyle. I mean seriously apart from some being grouped they not even getting into the basic of mmorpg.......""YOOHHOOO i'm at end game in XX day's NOw i can finaly say on forums end game suck"" i mean why even play mmorpg if you all consurned to rush to the end game, afcourse each his own playstyle, but try to stay true to the genre of mmorpg, don't make it a singleplayer game with online co-op functionality's.

Just my opinion

I'm curious will this be a accepted factor , i would truly hate it if no measure's where taken to sites that already have began selling gold for Vanguard. I've been in Beta and really liked the game, tho i find the monthly fee abit on the highend unless this game will draw me away from the other games i have subs on :) orderd it and got delayed at the 30th of jan. then i would come the 2end of feb, and finaly got a mail that it will be getting it tommorow ...finaly :)

But still without having set one foot in to the release version i'm already worried bout stuff like shown below. If people that setup stuff like this put some more effort into games like Second life where they can do such things legit, Why ruine other people experiances.

Gold Prices

0.5 gold=50 silver
Gold Price Add to cart*
0.5 $10.99
1 $21.76
2 $43.08
3 $63.96
4 $84.40

6 $123.97
7 $143.09
8 $161.77
9 $180.02
10 $197.82

I hope Sigil will take action against site that offer you gold.

I want to hear story's about a knight that was sweating his ass of when fighting numerous Giants singlehandedly and because he did so he got awared a very nice piece of armor that he's showing to me.

I don't want to hear "he' look at my armor i just bought for XXXXXXXXXXgold"

They really make sure you stay at the game..

I was in the city this afternoon checking out the shops who sell games and the gameshops themselfs and there isn't any escaping from WOW or BC, most shops have like 2 rows of WOW and ontop 1 row of BC (1row=8/12 boxed on a shelve), some even full display's at the center of their shops.

Its not a bad thing cause lets face who wouldn't like to have such a big tank to commerce your goods

not have seen this type of hype since HALO first showed

I feel sorry for whoever had to type this up for mmorpg.com

For WoW players, this isn't news -- these rewards have been in-game for awhile, the only development is Blizz updating their online guide to discuss them.

For non-WoW-players ... why would they care?

BC out since 16th of januari so how long is "a while" for you ? noone could be 61+ before BC could they now?? Don't asume cause you know that everyone already knows

Maybe you don't know but this is a mmorpg gamesite that brings news about every MMO"rpg" out there, i would start to hate this site if they would only bring me news i care about.

Besides Qwirk you did get another change to say "nothing"

Oops my mistake you probebly also written to newspapers around the world saying that they need to stop printing news you do not like....just give it a thought m8 i'm not bashing or flaming at you , just want to try to make you see the bigger picture here

Yup i to hate SOE what they did to SWG pre-cu....but that was then this is now, time to move on and to comment the topic it seems for a change they doing something good to the game, like someone else stated i have no clue if there are any entertainers ingame today, but if they are then it is a good thing, it doesn't nerf any prof. wich unfortunaly SOE has a major trackrecord in nerving stuff, so i do not see this at all of being a bad thing, it might help getting some more life around the SWG world.

Afcourse you have those sad people that keep bashing SOE for whatever reason they can not let go of the past and are stuck in a loopwhole unable to climb out again.

It is actualy very sad to read some responces, i do not see them trash talking on the guildwar forums as i think they even dare to go one step futher then SOE and give you a whole team of bots to fight along your side (nothing wrong with that and its pretty cool)

Now you have to understand why so many country's are at war , they all narrowminded and cannot get over the past even if the future could be alott brighter if only they could leave their pried for a rest and see the larger picture

Hi all,

I just read a artical on gamespot ( http://www.gamespot.com/features/6164940/index.html ) about Windows Vista and DX10.

Now i'm not against windows or anything but what i'm worried about is the screenshots they shown, with one look you see the DX9 versions of a game and with a mouse-over you see the DX10 version.

Now what puzzels me is the effects like shadow/darkness/light in DX10 are the same as i see them in some of the newer games already with my EN7900GT/TOP, when you mouseover the picture (on gamespot)and look at the DX9 version it looks to me like the same if i would play a game on low/medium settings instead of high, and the DX10 version just looks when i put my setting on High/Ultrahigh or extreme in some games when possible.

So is DX10 deleting the effects wich already are possible but only to be shown in hte future on DX 10 machines?

I understand those that might have g.cards that do not show nice effects already so for them it might be a win...if they upgrade to one of the 8xxx series.

I think one reason WoW elicits such viceral hatred from some people on MMORPG.com is because this website is essentially geared towards the non-WoW niche MMORPGs.  The players of these niche games recognize that WoW has mass market appeal, a large subscription base and a very large, and loyal, global community.  I think to many of these people WoW's success is fundamentally threatening to them.  The wide, seemingly unbridled popularity of WoW, not their game of choice, directly challenges their value sets.  It tells them that the world favors something which they shun, it makes them question their judgement, their worldview and values.  People don't like to have their values threatened or have the things they like passively, yet publicly, rebuked.

MMORPG.com is advertised as the forum for those seeking alternatives to WoW.  This website specializes in 'other than WoW' content.  That is a good thing.  If not for MMORPG.com the market dominance of WoW would likely quash discussion of alternative games or relegate such discussion to small boards here and there run on fansites, nothing like what we see here.  MMORPG.com in my opinion levels the playing field, a bit, by brining exposure to games in development, niche games, and the global MMORPG scene.  Kudos to those who brought us MMORPG.com!

Having said that though, the MMORPG.com forums also provide a vehicle and forum for niche gamers, who feel threatened by WoW's success, to vent their emotions and to find mutual support from other niche gamers.  This is essential to them.  The ability to commune with others who share their dislike (or worse) for WoW diminishes their feelings of isolation and proves, to them, that their values are not aberrant, that they are the 'intelligent minority' of gamers out there who actually know the 'truth' about why WoW is so popular (vice their game(s) of choice) and why WoW is so bad for the genre...  "It's too easy.... It's designed to be soloed...  It's a grind fest...  It's cartoonish...  It can run on even average rigs... It's not a sandbox..."  You've heard all the arguments, you've seen them throughout these forums, seemingly irregardless of which game's forum they appear in.

Unfortunately such discussions on these forums usually manifest themselves in the form of flaming.  The post purposely designed to attack or otherwise assault another poster who may enjoy WoW or have posted something not condemning WoW.  It seems that even posting statements not condemning WoW will get you branded a noob these days and flamed to the point of questioning the existence of forum moderators.  People on these forums often say "live and let live" or "game and let game" when people start complaining about the games they are testing or eagerly awaiting to play like VGSoH or PotBS or AoC...  When confronted with a challenge that the game is going to somehow not measure up to expectations they respond with, "Well maybe it doesn't appeal to you, so just don't play it and leave it to those of us who want to/like to play."  I've seen this a bit on the VG forums as a response to a rash of negative comments from the most recent Beta phase.  Well you know what, there's some truth to the "game and let game" philosophy.  Let's try to apply that equally to all games, including WoW.  We may not all agree on what is good or what is entertaining, as we are all individuals with specialized tastes and interests, but we should all be able to recognize what is can be considered fair play and civil when it comes to posts.  Furthermore, if you really so dislike WoW, for whatever reasons, just be considerate of others who may enjoy the experience.

Show the maturity that some claim is lacking from the WoW player base and that is required to enjoy non-WoW games.

34 released games, 21 Games in development and lots of other pages on this website, you might have missed them ;) ( i personaly have no idea how you come up with "MMORPG.com is avertised as the forum for those seeking alternatives to WoW"  ???

I fully understand what you mean by the rest of your text but you really have to keep in mind this is a forum for thousends and thousends of individual, everyone with his/her own personality, and not everyone can express her/himself in perfect english, now not saying that flaming other people is a good thing but then again it a thing we need to accept that it can happen, nothing we can do about it (moderators can) Remember people of all ages do come here so that alone should be enough to realise what things might be said on forums like this

Let people be people, let them speak their mind,  you don't like it you are free to leave or react, thats the whole meaning of forums you agree or don't agree with something and that can become a discussion and for that you can have a opinion wich you can write on forums like this.

Good job Ebay.

Btw (bit off-topic) a little EVE story ,already old news but still enjoyeble to read by those that didn't knew it

EVE-Online "banker" runs off with cash, avatars cry foul

It might have been a scene out of some movie about the Great Depression. Hundreds of frantic people tearing their hair out as they mob the doors to a bank, only to realize that the bank's owners, along with their money, had vanished into thin air.

This scene, however, took place not in some seemingly distant historical period, but much closer to home (for some of us). The location was EVE Online—a science-fiction-based MMORPG, and the bank was the Eve Intergalactic Bank—a privately run in-game institution that for several months convinced EVE Online players to deposit their spare "money" into accounts with the enticement of accruing several points of interest per month. That seemingly virtuous idea came to a crashing halt when the proprietor of the EIB, known to the game universe as "Cally," absconded with around 790 billion simoleons ISK—the currency of the EVE Online world.

Elikal, the biggest reasons WoW is so popular:

1. The company.  Blizzard is one of the elites in the industry.  You can trust them to make fair, fun, and well designed games.  From a game designer's standpoint, World of Warcraft is simply breathtaking.
2. It's Warcraft!  How many copies of the series have been sold?  Or just the first, and the second, and the third?
3. Battle.net.  The vast amount of players of this free online network for Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft gave Blizzard many more followers and loyal gamers than had Bnet never existed.  People who never play Warcraft online (and surely some who never played a warcraft game ever) knew they'd be getting a good and stable service in a Blizzard MMO.
4. It's casual safe.  You don't need a team, ever, to get the best equipment and to enjoy the game, least of all have to grunge through a raid.  Providing compotent and doable solo content broadened their available market.

some more reasons could be...

5. Its the most stabel mmo on the market suiteble for almost every decent pc.

6. It atracted more then gamers alone, people that never even heard or played warcraft before, but been bombarded with add/commercials, and Blizzard really knows how to market and make great Intro movies.

Not playing anymore cause i kept missing some form of immersivness but never found it in WOW but had fun tho while i played, but if  technology lets it and if there ever will be a WOW 2 that will look and play like the intro-movies they make then i'll be there and really would call something like that Nex-Gen.

Didn't think i would say it but i got WOW BC yesterday, installed it,mind you i havn't touch WOW since last september (mostly because of all new beta's) Went very smooth and got in game tried out the new race and kinda logged out after about 30 minutes, yes it looks good, it looks WOW, beta have ruined WOW for me cause finaly there are games on the horizon that will probebly become the new WOW as WOW has had their best years now i think its time for the new breed to rise and i'm sure they gonna.

WoW will still be a very atractive game for alott of people especialy for those new to the mmorpg scene, but those playing WOW and waiting for something better to come along, well it isn't BC people, its two games in development on wich is gonna be released abit to early but still if all hold well will become something WOW or EQ@ could never deliver and the other is a very rich ip namely LotrO. Being in those makes WOW feels abit weak, even tho i had some great and awesome times in WOW ...its time to move on .....

I just had to reply to this post...  I can't believe I am defending WOW, but I've tried the beta's for the "new WOW" and I was very disappointed with these titles.  They will not be knocking WOW off its pedestal, sorry.   I was really looking forward to one of the titles thats scheduled for release in Feb, but after spending a decent amount of time on it, I feel its interface isn't as smooth as it should be for a new game.  It felt old.  Then there are all the graphics/camera issues I had with it...  You may get the more hard-core players to like it, but casual players will still prefer WOW and thats the majority of your players.

I can't speak for LotR, so maybe there is some hope for a really big new game.

I understand what you saying but you don't have to defend WOW as it is still a good game, my post was not a bash at WOW it was my personal opinion about WOW and yes i know many people have isseus regarding the upcoming new mmorpg's mostly because their system doesn't preform well with these new high end games. As for being disappointed is fully understandeble if you are not the true mmorpg player as especialy VSoH will be game that has the focus of being a true mmorpg while WOW is actualy only a online game and has very little to do with (orginal mmorpg). I do wonder what people can not like about VSoH, is it the amnazing forrest that actualy moves by the wind making the world seem so alive, is it the creatures walking around and living the wildlife meaning creatures around you attack eachother for example some birdlike animals attacks some catlike animals because they set foot in their terrotory, or is it that you are able to have your own house, shop, town, city, or maybe its stupid that you can already own a horse at lvl 10 and every 10 lvl's more you can get a better horse wich are the basic mounts, or maybe you do not like the idea of feeling free to fly on your mount over the world of Vanguard (you don't have to wait 70 lvl's to fly over the world), maybe its the crafting system cause now in VSoH you can actualy craft low lvl stuff and they still are meaningfull, really really curious what a mmorpg player does not like about it ...really if people come forward and say " he' i just like to play games then its okay but no one can say he i love mmorpg thats why i play wow cause if you say that then people have no idea what mmorpg really means or atleast maybe once was known as true mmorpg, ialmost was afraid that WOW would be the new type of mmorpg but lucky enough there are still company's out there that stick to the original concept of mmorpg ;)

People that have pretty good systems and have a love for orginal mmorpg will really be atracted by the new games and really make WOW look weak. For those that just want some easy fun and don't have a badd ass system they will continue to like WOW cause it is still the most stabel online game there is.

People that don't really know what mmorpg is will contineu to see a game like WOW as a mmorpg, i played wow for about a year and had fun with it, but only because there wasn't anything better to get in. And after some time WOW can grow on you cause it remains a fun game. And i think that those people that had tried for example Vanguard after the 20th of januari would have noticed so many changes, the way the game feels at the moment is as stabel and solid as WOW does, the only difference here we can change the world or atleast ad something to the world what makes a difference, please tell me that you know someone that did something in WOW that made a difference for the game? there is nothing that makes a different other then climbing ranks or pwning on pvp areas, so where did this kind of gameplay become mmorpg??

The only thing i can say is that LotrO will probebly atract more of WOW players then VSoH will cause its also similair but more upgraded then WOW is and it has alott more depth then WOW.

So absolute not needed to defend wow like i said it will continue to be populair, because of the fun grade and stability, just not for people that really want a mmorpg and are able to run the newer games on their systems

300,000 beta signups? Interest from MMO veterans, newcomers, and Tolkien fans alike? Heh, so much for the doomsayers...

Plus, is it just me or does this game actually bring together more original concepts then most MMOs these days? They seem to have some really nifty and really solid systems coming together here. This game is starting to look like a pretty damn decent contender to the 07 games. Especially if it launches as a polished, complete product.

Very interesting.

i can only say being in beta, the community is very mature and patient, wish i could say more , but he' you know NDA ;)

Maybe i´ll find another new MMO out there that is actually interested in their (to be) customers..

Hope you will find another MMO indeed cause LotrO is no place for people that can not understand stress test ;)

(lol and those 9hours are nothing compared to most of us on the beta forums :P )

I am really looking forward to hear more about the details of the banks. The two main things are:

  • How will they work? How do you force an avatar to pay back the loan.
  • Which companies will run the banks? Big traditional companies, smaller creative companies, players.

Interesting, interesting...

I read this about Second Life wich is a kinda similar virtual world and doing similar things.

In December Dutch banking group ABN Amro set up a virtual financial advice centre in Second Life, another Internet-based role playing game that has a real economy.

The virtual ABN Amro branch resembles the bank's real-life outlets and offers online citizens financial advice.

LoL , it sucks to be euro . I can only hope for Age of Conan to be europe only beta for 1-2 month before they let rest of the word to test it

Lol it doesn't suck to be EURO, all you people had to do is sign-up for the beta the day it was released for the US and fileplanet gave me a excuse memo and a key to participate in the US beta , so it can only suck if you are bad informed as i see most of you EURO people seem to be.
I quesse nobody is using Windows??

Oh well

it seems fun for 2 min till I get tired of the choppiness

You are right i think you need a high end system to play the game decent, i hear mostly people debatting ingame about what card or system they are running and allot of complains about lag, like i said i experiance some lag when entering a busy crowded building but nothing different then i exp. in other games aswel sometimes. Wel lets see what vangaurd will bring me today :)
