I did n't see if you meant in current MMORPG or just in general.

For me it has to be pre-cu SWG, you could master a full profession or mix it all up.

It's a shame to me that this genre has turned into combat online games instead of provided the player with allot of choices, but then again seeing how succesfull games are that offer very little choice I can't really blame the developers as they only provide what the majority wants and continue's buying.

Is there any game that offers this amount of profession?

I went to purchase the lifetime sub to TSW, and my CC got declined.  I contacted the live support, and they recommended I try updating my CC information.  I tried that and kept getting an error.  They failed to give me a resolution and ultimately said "wait 24 hours and try again" as if that would change anything.

I called my CC company and they said they declined my payment but I could authorize it, so I did, but TSW still showed as declined.

So this time I sent a ticket since I learned live support was useless.  I titled my ticket "Failed Payment" but explain that I called my CC company and resolved the situation, but wondered why it still said failed on my TSW account info.

A day and a half later I receive a response saying my payment was declined and I need to contact my CC company.  WTF DID THAT, DID THEY EVEN READ MY TICKET?  Obviously not.

So I call my CC company again, and they explain I just need to attempt the purchase again.  So I do, it it works.

Conclusion: My CC company knows more about Funcoms systems than they do.

I actually regret giving them any money at all, but I really like the game, just not their fail support.  I wish I could write my check to Ragnor himself :(

I am so confused with what I highlighted in OP

Because $15 a month is too much for people?

 Kinda what I was thinking.

To be honost I aint playing any MMO at the moment, but the many I have played it really never borthered me to pay 15€ and I truly have limited time. Atleast I am 100% sure to squize atleast a minimum of 4 hours a month to play (often somewhat more then that) And if I have a crapload of real life (job/family/friends) things to do I just cancel my sub if I see no room to play in a month and pick it up the next month or so.

So sorry OP but I am not sure what type of people would be in favor of that, though I do know in certain countries it's the norm to pay by the hour. But thankfully I don't have to go back to how internet was way back.

It's okay if you don't like Dubstep....

It's okay if you don't like Transformers....

But D### the editing skills on the person/people who have made this clip, I found it really awesom so thought on sharing it

Yes did greatly enjoy SWG city's, the most at pre-cu, overall SWG's experiance has never been match by any other MMO.

Still looking for a MMORPG that offered what SWG offered as today's MMORPG are far to limited for my taste and don't even come close to what SWG offered.

But thanks for bringin Repopulation to my attention, gonna keep a eye out for it.

As you can see developers have been listening to the loudest complaints since let's say EQ1 and that's the reason why this genre is what it is today. Yes I know it sucks being a minority compared to when some of us have started in this genre when we where a majority in this genre.

People complained about not enough solo content.

People complained about camping.

People complained there weren't enough quests.

People complained the genre was to complex or to overwelming.

People complained about to much reading.

People complained about balance "why is class X stronger then class Z"

I could go on, but serieusly we all should have seen this coming way way back already, and yes I feel it's a shame that this genre turned out so incredible limited, but it is what the majority wanted and here we have it.

I'm sorry but I have been tricked by this level of hype before and I will not be tricked again. With the (arguably) pay to win model, the incredibly simplistic combat, the unbalanced zerg fest that is WvWvW, etc....I just do not see what the fanatics are smoking.

I have high hopes for Guild Wars 2 but will not be playing until the unrealistic hype is crushed and the game is brought back down to earth.

OP it's far more simple, just stop having high hopes. Cause honostly it's almost always the people with these high hopes that often fall for hype.

Star Wars Galaxies for me exceeded all expectations, it offered so much more then what other games provided at the time and still today no other MMORPG has even came close to what SWG offered me. Yes obviously I wished it was more polished and had less bugs, but even with all the bugs and issue's the game had there is still no MMORPG that comes close.

I can fully understand that it wasn't a MMORPG for the themepark or the less patient type of player but SWG gave the MMORPG experiance I hoped this genre would evolve into. Unfortunaly for me I am now just a minority as proof why this genre has become a more on rails type of online combat game.

Sorry I don't consider 6 months a long time really, and I also don't expect this genre to have changed much in the last six months.

So honostly not sure what you are looking for in answers? I could understand it if you where away for several years.

But anyway welcome back..... ;)

Go play the Sims if you want housing

Oh you want a virtual world, play Second Life or Real life

So sick if the retardation.  It was funny when only Blizzard was doing it.  Now that half the internet is doing it, it is retarded.  So, I propose an initiative.  If any company posts a news statement today and retracts it tomorrow, we boycott them for a month.  This shit needs to stop.  There are many great times and places for April Fool's jokes, but the internet is not one of them!

I truly hope this is your aprils fool joke

My buddy text me earlier to ask if I have seen the new BF3 patch info yet. I said no, and he informed me of the new system where you can pay to unlock kits. Obviously I wanted to check this out for myself and started up Origin... to my not-surprise there it was right in front of me...

My question to all of you is this; do you care, does it bother you? Me personally no, I have unlocked all of the kits I care about... but my buddy was hot pissed calling it Pay to Win. In an mmo I would say, yeah that kinda is... but in a FPS I wouldnt necessariliy agree...

I saw this.  I haven't played BF3 in a month, but it's still on my rig and updates.  And then I saw the popup from Origin making the offer to pay money to unlock everything that you otherwise had to get via ingame accomplishments/progression.  TBH, my heart sank when I saw this.

Business-wise, it's a shrewd move by EA.  But as an old Battlefield fan, it was disappointing to see DICE go this route.  Some of those unlocks you really had to go out of the way and play hard, and/or out of your normal playstyle to accomplish and unlock them.

I mean, you can pay to put you on par with a player that put alot of effort to get all those unlocks.  For me, in MMORPG terms, it's like selling in a cash shop end-game / raid / top-tier gear or abilities.

Highlighted red is why I play games, regardless if it has a cashshop or pay to win option. Does it borther me that people that can't really game have a option to buy themselfs in? No not really even though those people find all sorts of excuses to why they buy ingame items, and none of those reasons will ever make sence to me as it's against my gamers believe.

-the descicions they make - takes time to make stratigic choices

-their reflexes, strategy and knowledge during combat - again takes time

-their ability make allies and utlisie these friendships - again this takes time

-their ability to play the market and reap gains - well this might sound old but again this takes time

pretty much every game whether it be soccer, basketball, quake 3, starcraft  or chess doesnt directly reward time spent. you will get better with practice but not neccesarly at the same rate and different people will plateu at different ability levels. practicing and competing to extract all the performance out of your potential is what makes these games interesting and is the reason for their longevity.

Which clearly shows it takes time doesn't it?

"hey looks like you grinded your arse off for 2 weeks now you have enough badges to unlock tier X pvp gear. congratulations you are a no life loser and now you can pwn all those who undergoing the process you just went through. dont you just feel great?"

Aha your topic is about repetition actually, so it seems

why is it mmorpgs have this stupid concept of rewards based on time spent. "progression" should be difficult not time consuming. for example: once a raid is complete why should you have to keep completing until you have all the items? if you can do it once, you can surely do it again. how do people put up with this crap? make the raids more challenging rather than making them something you repeat and repeat.

Ever played normal RPG's? see the difference between the lenght of a singleplayer FPS game or a singleplayer RPG, it's the RPG that offers the longest playtime, but I do agree that these ranking systems in a RPG are not fitting properly and I find it sort of a shame that this genre does limit itself so much.

im also a firm beleiver than no computer programming can beat the complexity and unpredicatlibility of PVP based gameplay. . i think one of the reasons that players dont like pvp gameplay is because it is poorly done. since players are rewarded based on time spent, casual players (the majority) dont stand a chance.  PVP gameplay is superior to PVE gameplay in that there are infinite possibilities. developers only have to provide the tools, they dont need to constantly churn out content. look at LoL and DoTA. both of these games are extremely popular (far more popular than any mmorpg) and they are pvp games.

There is allot more that can be done PVE wise where PVP is actually very limited yet it is more unpredictable, but this way of thinking is mine due to the fact I already PVP in other genre of games and enjoy them much more then the limited version in a MMORPG (ThemeparkMMO's). But again I do agree that PVE is really lacking these day's with current MMORPG's as they all seem to limit themself towards combat mostly.

I wished MMORPG would expand on the virtual world part, keep current MMO's as they are as many enjoy them, but I am sure the is a big enough group of player that would like to have more challenge then only combat challenges and if some of these people are like me they already get their combat challenges from other genre of games and might want a MMORPG to go beyond that what we already play and can find in other genre of games.

1. A lesson learned from this era of the Wii and Kinect states that nobody can handle the strain of it for prolonged periods of time. Sure, it would be amazing to play a VR MMO, but don't expect to wear a weighty headset with a screen inches from your eyes without a serious migrane. 3d gaming suffers from the same issue.

2. Now, if they could handle this with some kind of cockpit chair with a screen that follows you, or an entire room ala holodeck - then problem solved - but who, realistically, is going to have either of those in their home?

3. Gaming is meant for simple, ergonomic and effortless input with a monitor far enough away to actually stare at it for a long time without going epilectic.

 1. I know plenty of people who seem to enjoy kinect and a Wii and play with them just aslong as I sometimes am able to play games with just a pc and screen. I also do not think that VR glasses have to be weighty, we're not in the 80's anymore. Tech actually does evolve.

2. Again shows more 1980 type of VR we had, also > http://current.com/groups/culture/89329151_star-treks-holodeck-becoming-a-reality.htm  Remember video game arcades where we wished we would have something like that at home, now look at gaming....

3. Gaming is meant for entertainment, it's about options, some gamers enjoy the Wii, Playstation (move), Xbox kinect, PC. So even though we would get virtual reality games it still can be a option people would choose to play so obviously people who might get epilectic would not pick games that might trigger something like that. Just like those people would not watch 3d if they can't handle it.

I would want a virtual reallity type of game but based on only being surrounded within the gameworld and still hopefully be able to use my keyboard as I am not into the whole moving alla kinect or move type of games.

But most of all I would want this genre to become once again virtual worlds and not just online combat games as I already enjoy other genre that offer that much better to me where a MMORPG should go far beyond that of what I already enjoy in other genre of games.

MAIN COURSE: what if? every body hates the game you play?

SIDEDISH: I happened to like Seven Souls online atm, idk, but it just hit my ticklish part so I lurked around the Interwebs for 2 weeks now, read this read that. Mainly focused on "MMORPG" sites since thats the genre of the game I'm playing.

and MMORPG games have a lot of "haters" I assume, and the generalize opinion that they are "WoW Clones" I know everyone is entitle of their own opinion..but it really gets to my nerves, whenever people bash the games they never even played.

You saw something on the games you play, thats why you continue to do so..

baaah just "onion peeling" my self. ttnx for read it cost you a minute.

I really value opinions from close friends/family.

Internet opinions how ever make up for some discussions but I really give a rats a%%  if I would like and enjoy a game that another unknown person might not like. Sure I might get a tiny bit annoyed sometimes by unknown strangers dictating others what to play or not to play. But still feel that hating a game or gamecompany is just childish, that people can dislike games I am okay with that.

So, since RMT is becoming bigger and bigger, and people justify it with "But it's better that the game company gets the money", is it then okay for the poor to bot while sleeping, so we can keep up with the gamers who have too much money irl?

Or should the rich just have more fun than the poor, in virtual worlds, like they do irl?

Make one legal and you might aswell do the other too, imo... Even out the playing field.

MMO's will become a very expensive hobby in the future, and I would still like to able to enjoy 'em, but I cannot, and will never be able to afford to be competitive in a game where power is bought with cash..

So if not this, then what is the solution for poor people in future MMO's?

Well to be honost I do have the money to spend. But more importantly to me is that I am a gamer, what I want to achieve in a game I do by playing the game. I see absolute no reason to buy anything ingame at cashshops. It just goes against my gamers believe. And this is stricktly personal and in no way ment that I feel all gamers should be like that, cause all of us into video games are gamers, we might just have a different approach in how we play our games.

So my solution is simply enjoy the games that YOU enjoy and don't worry that much about how others enjoy it, but you have to be a patient type of gamer and simply know that it only takes time to get there where you want to go. And you don't need to be in a rush to cap, just enjoy the journey

Allot of games namewise have slipped my mind that are rather old but here goes my most current listing

A mix of Action RPG's and Openworld RPG's

It should be pretty apparent by now that SWTOR aka WOWTOR is not doing as well as Bioware or their fans had hoped. The game is already being discounted by $10 on origin, they are already offering multiple free weekends for the game, and one of the most replied to posts on the official forums is titled "Server population is dropping...". Yes it looks like it is the beginning of the end for this game.

When a company spends $200 million on a new game and instead of growth, the total population starts to decline (or stabilizies) as individual server populations drop noticeably, its an obvious sign that customers are not satisfied. The game also has a small number of subscribers relative to the total number of potential customers, compared to WoW 7 years ago which had an equal or possibly greater number of subscribers the same length of time after its' release, back when MMO's  were not as mainstream as today.

Aug. 30th, 2005 Wow reaches 1 million players. Game released: November 23, 2004

So I geuss you made a simlilar topic about WoW's death back in 2004 3 months after it's release???

In fact SWToR surpasses World of Warcraft with subnumbers, so it's very hard to believe anything you said in your OP

This should speak volumes that gamers are not looking for games that are "similar to WoW" anymore and do not want games that fit the bill of a linear theme park. If WOWTOR monumentally collapses or does not experience great success (profit), I would expect more developers, if they haven't already, will begin to distance themselves from SWTOR/WOW as they realize now that advertising a game as a WoW clone should not be considered a selling point to get people interested in their MMO anymore.

I for one will not be playing another MMO until it is very innovative and different than a MMO I have played in the past, in particular, WoW. Developers should stop worrying about making a viable competitor in the MMO market that is nearly identical to WoW in order to appeal to that playerbase. Instead they really should be making it completely unlike WoW in order to compete with Titan, which I guarantee will probably be vastly different than WoW.

I suspect SWTOR will probably be the last wow clone we will see. Overall I think this is very good news for the genre, even at the expense of a game that had such a massive budge for a company eyeing major success.

RIP SWTOR "Tortanic"

This is absolutely not in defence of SWToR cause I aint even playing or have played the game, but like to be informerd nevertheless but like to be informerd with actuall facts instead of wild geusses or make up stuff.

And if you have any sort of MMORPG experiance you already know that often certain servers do get lower populated. I feel it'sa  very hard thing to work with "do we need 20 servers up and running on release or do we need 5 servers on release and build upon that. Let's say they put up 5 servers up and running on release, imagine the queíng, which this day''s would put off people to rather not to play. Well with allot more server we see topics like this appear each and every time at almost every MMORPG that some person does not like.

/facepalm

Read through the thread next time to avoid making yourself look blatantly lost.

1 million players on Aug 30 2005 is factually wrong. Trying doing some research next time (or simply read through the thread) instead of spreading misinformation. Funny you try to discredit my post but in fact all you did was discredit your own, good job.

With that said, I'm not going to even bother reading through the rest  of your post when its beyond clear that this thread is far beyond your level of understanding if you got such basic factual information wrong.

You're right,  I should have added 1 mil+ NA players at 30 or 29 aug. 2005. My bad

Could explain to those of us or just to me what the gameplay of the farming mini game is like? Arn't most mini games sort of out of game feature's? So also care to explain what is sandbox about it. Honostly curious
