JamesP was just as much part of the scam as Jason Appleton. After three years, JamesP continued to lie and charade of Greed Monger's development, instead of coming clean and admitting nothing was truly being done. JamesP was warned that it was a scam, but continued to play part in it anyways.

JamesP is just as much to blame as Jason Appleton.

Jason Appleton wasn't even part of the public eye for the past 2+ years, it was all JamesP. I have no idea how you can say JamesP didn't play a significant role in this.

I am not saying he did not play a role, i said the exact opposite. He played the role of the patsy, the front man, the public figure of the scam while Jason Appleton sat in the background counting the money.

It's pretty clear from the information we have that JamesP is a very naive and unskilled individual, i don't mean this in a derogative way, not everyone has the skills to be a game developer, it's just very obvious that he over estimates himself, his skills and the reality around him.

  • He says he worked in the Gaming Industry and learned a lot in the past years.
  • He has not produced anything himself.
  • He can not see a project through to it's conclusion.
  • He has little to no knowledge about game design, project management or programming.
  • He was making it up while he went along as evident by the 2 engine changes of GM.
Sure, in his naivety he made it look like he participated in the scam but i really think he honestly believes he is a game developer and he can run a company. I don't blame him at all, since engines like Unity make it sound like everyone can be a game developer. That is however not true, it takes more than a cheap game engine and a few assets to make a game. Much more.

... No coding skills?

Before I joined GM here is a small Prototype I spent a day or 2 on:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ali4KitvN3g

You can play it here:

http://www.kongregate.com/games/JimP14/earth-defense

Yes it's unfinished as it was only a Prototype. And it's a fairly simple game but all code was done by me... The only asset store thing in that video are the explosions.

As many of you know even if people did file a lawsuit against me I have no way of paying it. GM may be gone but we still intend on honoring the KS Backer's pledges in the future when we get the resources to attempt another MMO. With our Funding falling through like it did we had no way of getting GM to launch. We had a plan in place to bring in some funding by working our butts off to create a much smaller game and when those plans were leaked people didn't like that plan very much and started attacking us again. So we attempted to hand GM back over to Jason so with the help of his investors he could get the game done. He refused to take it back. So we were left with no other option then to shut it down, regroup, and attempt it again when we have the resources to do it. This is NOT the end just a break for a little while.

It doesn't work like that, you can't just say oh i have no money so i can't be sued.

Sued for what though? We made an effort to make the game... In the end we failed... Games by AAA Companies fail every day. You really expect us not to fail? We will make every effort to get back in to a position where we can attempt another MMO and when the time comes we will honor every single promise and pledge during our KS Campaign. We just do NOT have the funding to see this through to launch at this time.

Ah nothing like a daily dose of Greedmonger drama, while sipping your first cup of coffee in the morning. Unfortunately this morning I'm reading the first sensible thing coming out of this project and that's closing it down. But... I'm still missing one element. That's for James to contact Kickstarter and show his contract he shouldn't have signed, and ask them for advise. Try to combine a legal force with them. Kickstarter should be interested, and so should James.

Once the law starts coming after people you can't run. Be smart about it, it will look a lot better in the eyes of the law when you get the ball rolling yourself. And in the eyes of the backers it will be a great service when Appleton will stand trial, and all his scams will end.

James, now unplug your Internet cord from your PC and let the world be what it is. If you still have dreams, follow them and only come back when you had a LAN party with friends and your system didn't crash, and you're ready to sell something REAL.

The Contract we signed with Jason prevents us from being part of any lawsuits regarding what;s happened with KS. And trust me MMOI isn't done... We WILL be back when we have something ready for the public to see. Until then I will still be hanging around on these forums like I've been doing since like 2009 I believe it was when I first joined.

Edit: I take that back it was 2006 that I joined MMORPG.com

Again... no contract can waive criminal actions. Not taking actions makes it the first criminal offence you make. You have to take action, because you see money missing.

Read my last post... After going over the paypal data with Jason I don't believe there IS any missing money... We didn't go over everything but what we did go over certainly seems to indicate it all went toward GM.

If I were you I would be getting copies of those documents and sitting down and going through them with a fine toothed comb. Then I would still start planning to reimburse all the backers somehow since you have failed to deliver. There is a precedence of a kickstarter creator being sued by the attorney general for failure to deliver promised goods. Not sure of the outcome of the lawsuit so perhaps it is still ongoing.

Have you sent the t-shirts out yet? cause that might ease the stress of being sued.

Sorry for dragging this... but this is very important. What you say here is very different from what you said earlier. You have said you accounted for about $20k worth of salaries, assets, rental of servers. The kickstarter mentions Jason A. received $100k, and as others have pointed out more donations have been via paypal, for the sale of more imaginary plots in a game that's now officially vaporware. I'm not an economist, nor a mathemetician, but what happened to the $80k?

If it can not be accounted for, it's called fraud.

Yes like I said up until yesterday Jason had been refusing us access to the data. Yesterday though we did sit down with him and he DID make the data available to us and it does suggest that every penny went toward GM. Jason had some where else to be and so we didn't go over every little detail to account for every single penny but there enough data there that I wasn't aware of to suggest that it did in fact go to where it was supposed to go. We have screenshots of his Paypal records but he has asked us not to release them.

Also I know this prob. won't matter much because at this point you guys don't care all that much about what I say. However I really don't think Jason was ever a Scammer and I know GM wasn't a Scam. We mismanged the project. We both made mistakes that hopefully we both will learn from. Until yesterday Jason had been refusing to give us ANY records concerning where the KS Money went to. However yesterday Joel and I sat down with him and went over some of the data. We didn't take the time to go over everything but what we did go over would seem to indicate enough that the entire $100,000 or however GM made in total did in fact go toward the development of GM.

At the time I wasn't part of the discussions concerning how much each person would get and so I never had that information. Jason was paying people I didn't even know about and there were other expenses I wasn't aware of.

In the end as Team Lead I should have managed the team better. I should have insisted on conducting Team Meetings every week and I SHOULD have made sure everything was much more organized... Lesson learned! I need to learn to be more assertive when I know I'm right about something and stand my ground. In the end I believe this will be a great learning experience for all involved.

Jason Appleton is the real crook here. He is a smart scam artist that tried many schemes to make a quick buck. Right now he poses as an SEO expert on his http://upstager.com/ website. It's a complete scam, some pages with his references/clients still have the Lorem Ipsum placeholder text from the Template he bought to make this website.

He also claims to be an SEO expert:

"Having been doing online marketing, web design, SEO and PPC management for many years for multiple industries, I knew I wanted to help small businesses without $20,000 budgets be able to compete with the industry players. Upstager's focus is doing exactly that."

http://upstager.com/partner-view/school-of-art/

Jason and I had a discussion concerning this back in January when I first found it... Here's a little of our discussion...

[1/20/2015 10:13:18 PM] James Proctor: So upstager.com is that something YOU are doing or is it just an article on a new Website Company?

[1/20/2015 10:20:24 PM] James Proctor: Just some words of advice... UpStager's website is in some BAD need of a redesign... You should have your contact information both up near the top and at the bottom of the page... People aren't going to want to go all the way to the bottom just to find your contact details... Also things should be much more organized then what they currently are... You should actually have a top Nav bar where there is actually a Contact Us Link that takes them to a page with a nice little form they can fill out to send you a email and your phone number and mailing address so they have those options as well. You should then have a link like about us or something to that effect that takes them to a page where they can learn more about the company. Then another page that lists your prices and packages, and finally a showcase page where you can show off YOUR work...

[1/20/2015 10:24:21 PM] James Proctor: And another word of advice... Your claiming to have 15 years of experience in website design and Development... Redesign GM's website, get GM to the top of the Google Search Ranks and use that as your starting Showcase to show people interested in your services that you have what it takes... GM's website was just Outsourced and looks like crap right now with it being half broken...

[1/20/2015 10:42:02 PM] Jason  Appleton: A small business website is a lot different than what I wanted for GM

[1/20/2015 10:42:14 PM] Jason  Appleton: I've done over 40 sites for people in the past several years

[1/20/2015 10:42:18 PM] Jason  Appleton: I've ranked several

[1/20/2015 10:42:55 PM] Jason  Appleton: and the upstager site is responsive and made more for cell phones

[1/20/2015 10:44:32 PM] James Proctor: Yes it might be responsive... However the majority of your potential Clients will be searching through their Desktops or Laptops not their mobile phones... It should be optimized for them with another version specifically for Cell Phones...

Jason walked away with 80k and James gets all the game assets. Instead of moving on with the project that people paid to have developed, James will instead run off and work on some new project he has dreamed up. All involved with this project are thieves and liars. James will probably have a new kickstarter running within a week or two.

And IF I do and if all I show in the preview for the new game is nothing but Assets bought from the asset store with nothing really to show that I've actually done work on the game then please feel free to drag all this stuff up and do whatever you feel is needed. However I assure you that won't happen because I'm NOT that type of person. But hey man do what you have to do and believe what you want to believe it's your right to do so.

And I understand it's not going to interest everyone but Zombie Survival Games are popular enough that it should be able to at least start paying for some of GM or other Large Scale MMO."  - JamesP

WoW! JamesP, you really need to stop right now. Here are a couple of reasons why:

  1. The Zombie Survival craze is over. After people got scammed 3 times (WarZ/DayZ/H1Z1) and a truckload of low quality indie Early Access games. There is no room left for making a quick buck on this genre. This ship has sailed 2 years ago. Just don't touch it, it's toxic.
  2. You need to work on one Project. Create your own Assets not buy them, then sell those assets in the Asset store while you make the game. That is how you finance your game. There is no other way anyone will give you money again.
  3. If you even try to get money for this new Project i guarantee you that people will conjure up a shit-storm of epic proportions. Me included.
Really, JamesP. Just grow the *#$@! up and take some responsibility. Make your own game on your own time with your own money. Then when it's presentable, show it and you maybe get back some credibility.

No one will give you money for a Unity Assets demo because the community will make sure everyone knows what you are up to.

The Zombie Survival Game has nothing to do with GM or our own Future IP... It's a Project designed to be released quickly and perhaps earn us some money. It's not a FREAKING Unity Demo. Yes I got a kit from the asset store and used it as the foundation for a Prototype. I have edited alot of the code and added entire custom systems. I've networked the entire thing and added unique systems/features. Everything that it now does is NOT included in the package. You guys REALLY expect Game Developers to reinvent the wheel every time they start a new project? What the heck is so wrong with using Asset Store bought assets and kits to help speed development up?

Did you guys attack Shroud of the Avatar for using Asset Store bought assets in their Prototype? lol

Greed Monger backers have chimed in on their main forums. Greed Monger poll was finally created and backers are finally jumping in to give their thoughts. Pretty much the same discussions as everywhere else "It's dead!" and more attacks on his decreasing reputation and status as a Game Developer. No surprise since he continues to hold the torch which he should of thrown out before it was too late. (News Flash: It's too late!) (WINTER IS COMING) FLAMING ARROWS INCOMING!

You are giving the option for backers to vote on the following "Continue on with GM... I REALLY want GM!" seriously? NO ITS DEAD MAN...DEAD IN THE WATER! *Salt being dropped into GM-Backers wounds* YOU FOOL! D:

Furthermore you gave two other poll options "Scrap GM and work on a new fresh Game where I get what I paid for!" & "I don't know/care I just want a game to play!" Am I failing to see the distancing part here? I get fulfilling the phs. rewards for backers; and giving them hope they will receive something in the future.  Buuuut....

Do so after you announce that all hope is lost for 'Greed Monger' and additionally you are dropping all corrupted $20,000  assets back to appleton. They simply wont be receiving what they originally donated towards; more so if you go off on your own adventure with the zombie survival game. You are dropping salt into the wounds; do you even realize it? D:

What can he possibly do at this point? what are the pathways he has left open. Those paths are closing fast as the arrows come raining in.

lol I already said we were using that asset template for the zombie game... Haven't tried to say otherwise. However I HAVE taking that asset pack and made a whole lot more then what it is when you buy it... I've added UniStorm for Day/Night cycle and Weather, I've completely networked the entire thing, custom Zombie Spawning System, Custom Player Spawning System, Custom Loot Spawning System, a Work in Progress Inventory and Item system, Will be adding crafting and base building and so much more.

That is kind of disappointing. I have no interest in GM but I did believe that James genuinely wants to get the game done.

Now he starts some other random project...

I do/did want to get the game done... The vast majority of the community that we talk to however seems to want us to drop GM and work on our own IP that would actually stand a chance of being Successful. However all of that aside we are doomed to fail with out doing something to get funding. There fore we are looking into doing some smaller side Projects... They will help us to get some projects complete, see how our team works together, and hopefully be good enough to start bringing in some funding for larger projects like GM.

The post that was posted here about my Zombie Survival prototype was a post I made to my Friends on my personal Facebook page just showing my friends what I've been up to. It was NOT meant for public viewing. But since it was made public first of all YES it started out as a Template from the Asset Store. It was a really good foundation for the type of Game I am prototyping. I have put in hours of work over the last couple days networking it and adding features. It's FAR more then what the template comes with. I have Networked the entire Character Controller Player Movement is completely synced up, I added UniStorm to it and created a Networking Plugin for UniStorm so the Server controls the entire Day/Night cycle and Weather Generation. I've added a Command Console and started added Commands that can be used to change the weather and other things from the Client. I added a Chat System with support for different Chat Channels, Custom Text Colors, ect. I created a Custom Mob Spawning System so that the Server can spawn the mobs and sync it all up with the clients. You can shoot and kill Zombies and once they are dead they will despawn after 20 seconds. I have started on a Inventory and Loot System though I still have a ways to go on it.

It includes enough information to conclude that you should've known it was a scam from the beginning, James.

Also enough information to determine you're exactly the kind of "leader" Jason needed for GM in order to swindle the backers out of all their money. Seriously, if it wasn't blatantly obvious to you as early as 2012 when Jason Appleton said this, there's something terribly wrong.

[12/5/2012 11:05:49 PM] James Proctor: To get it done in a reasonable time it's going to take a team twice this size... Takes AAA companies with hundreds of people 4+ years just to release a MMO...
[12/5/2012 11:06:08 PM] Jason Appleton: No it wont. I've done my research man
[12/5/2012 11:06:27 PM] Jason Appleton: Early on I didnt know for sure. But I've been reading on gamasutra and other resources

[12/7/2012 12:53:26 AM] Jason Appleton: Some times, you have to fake it till you make it.
[12/7/2012 12:53:30 AM] Jason Appleton: :)
[12/7/2012 12:53:31 AM] James Proctor: lol
[12/7/2012 12:53:35 AM] Jason Appleton: I'm serious
[12/7/2012 12:53:59 AM] Jason Appleton: Just make sure when you fake it, there aren't holes in your faking. lol

Pretty sure anyone with any sense would easily know your original statement was true, James, but you continued the charade for years after this. Furthermore, being told to "fake it til you make it" and "make sure there aren't holes" is also pretty exculpatory in determining it was a scam from the start. Jason Appleton gave plenty of clues that this was a scam. How did you never pick up on it?

Do you and Joel have any intention of updating your backers about what transpired during the Hangout, or are you going to continue to leave them in the dark about development the same way Electric Crow did? For two people who claim to love the backers so much, you sure seem to leave them in the dark about pretty much everything (stress test, t-shirts, and now the Hangout). Also, no new team members were introduced during the Hangout like you claimed.

The Hangout is available for anyone to see. At this point in time nothing has changed. We are discussing our next course of action and will update the community when we have a plan in place. We will be creating a forum post soon with a poll to see what people want us to do and we will factor the results from that into our final plan on how to move forward.

As for your first comment about knowing it was a scam I was told by everyone around me that it was nothing more then a scam... I knew there was a chance but I also knew that I was going to do everything in my power to see it through to launch. It didn't matter what other people's intentions were as long as I saw it through and got it launched.

Also we did introduce new members of our team. We had John, one of our Programmers, and we had both Tyler and Paul who are members of our QA Team. None of them talked much because the agenda for the night quickly changed when PFO started asking questions and then ended up attacking us. I tried to have a open discussion format with members of the community because I wanted our Hangouts to be a time where we could talk with the community and hear concerns and discuss things however if we are just going to be attacked then we may have to rethink how we conduct our hangouts in the future.

@Epony "This includes all chat logs between Jason Appleton and James Proctor, which, while quite lengthy, are incredibly hilarious to read ..."

Do you have the link to those lengthy chat logs? I seriously cannot find them. lol~

...or wait is it all on RPGCODEX? I think I may have found it.

Also another question...how did DarkP obtain conversations between Proctor and Appleton? How has he been shedding the light on everything; did he previously work for appleton or something?

if you don't mind me asking. =p

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watched the video 3 times so far and have it playing in the background right now... it never gets old! Haha.

Dark and I are now Friends so he's in our Skype Discussions and sees first hand what takes place with MMO Interactive on a daily basis. When Jason said he was going to release our chat logs I decided to beat him to it. I went through our logs from December of 2012 and released those. It took me a while to go through them and remove sensitive information (Account usernames and Passwords). By the time I got that first month released Jason had said that he had decided to hold off releasing the chat logs until he saw what my next move was going to be and so I did the same. So the logs that were released where far from all of them.

Under the circumstances we were doing what we felt was in the best interest of everyone involved. We will just have to see where we go from here and see what the final out come is.

LOL

Joel is the one talking. My Mic is messed up and I've been unable to talk most of the time. I've just been typing.

The announcement was made on our Facebook page. Fastest way we have at the moment to get the word out since people spend a ton of time on facebook.

So, now it's your plan to release two games rather than one (Greed Monger MMO and Greed Monger "Emulator")? Seems like quite the undertaking for one person who's already trying to release Rise of Heroes and Greed Monger. Also, with that, doesn't this fly in the face of backers who paid for certain parcels of land, since everyone will be able to make their own server?

And you're downsizing the company already? I thought you and Joel were the only two people in the company, or is Joel leaving (again)? Joel still seems rather fictitious, especially since he's supposed to be your PR department, since he has very rarely posted in any forums.

lol Where did I ever say we were down sizing the Company? And NO the company is not only Joel and I. After our KickStarter campaign was such a success our vision for GM grew way beyond what we promised in our KickStarter. THAT is what we are down sizing. We are going back to the basics of what we promised and then we will be adding all of the extra features after launch.

As for Rise of Heroes as soon as GM was signed over to us RoH went back on the back burner. We are ONLY developing GM. The smaller scale version is a by product of developing GM it's not something extra that's taking away from GM. We are developing our tools and everything that will be powering GM and releasing them out to the public so they can be tested and improved on in a real world setting. It also allows us to release a product sooner and start getting some credibility.

Do you have an update for those who ordered one a long time ago?

If you don't have them on hand [Garage/Lost/Appleton Forgot to send them] would that mean no T-Shirts have been ordered at all? Do you/what is the plan to begin fulfilling those important promised physical rewards to those who paid money for them; which need fulfilled on priority to avoid incoming legal problems?

We are having a Google Hangout this tonight at 8pm EST. we will be announcing our plans for the T-Shirts then. The Google Hangout will be saved to youtube for anyone not able to attend. We will also be answering any questions the community might have as well.
