We have things in the works to protect us and to make sure that GM turns out great while Rebuilding the trust of the Community. Just sit tight and as soon as we announce our plans you guys will hear about it here.

Here's my Latest Video Update showing some of the recent progress...

Things shown:

- Improved Building

- Parcel Placement

- Improved Combat - First look at our Special Effects / Coordinated Effects System which allows us to create effects that are comprised of Animations, Particles, Audio, ect.

- Start of Mounts

- Mob Spawning... 300+ Mobs. Our Zone Server was tested with around 50,000 Mobs spawned in... Client crashed while before the Server Crashed as we currently have no Area of Interest System so the Client displays ALL mobs in the zone.

Unlike Single player games MMOs are NEVER done changing until the day they shut down the Servers for the last time... So if your going to wait until the Game is done changing then if it's an MMO you will never get to play...

A game created by a studio that doesn't have any programmers?  What could possibly go wrong?

In my view, the biggest problem with the games that are released is that far too many of them are far too similar to each other.  This isn't a new complaint; it's been that way for a long time.  But when you pick up a "new" game and you're already 90% of the way to being sick of it because of similarity to other games that you've already played a lot, that's not a good thing.

The solution is games that go off the beaten path and try something new.  I think that's part of why I liked Uncharted Waters Online so much:  it wasn't just a knock-off of something else, or even kind of similar to anything else made in the decade that preceded it--or the decade since it launched.  So I wasn't 90% of the way to being sick of it the day I picked it up.  It's about the same reason why some people around here like some early MMORPGs so much, even if they had played plenty of non-MMORPG games before that.

But things like this go in the opposite direction.  Not only will your game have kind of similar mechanics to someone else's.  It will have exactly the same mechanics as a bunch of others doing exactly the same things in exactly the same way because they're using exactly the same source code.  Any creativity that could have made the game cool gets squeezed out because you're using an engine that doesn't support it and don't have the capability to modify the engine and add what you want.

I'm not saying that you need to roll your own everything to create a good game.  If you can license libraries that do exactly what you want for chunks of the game and do it well, then sure, do so.  But it's very, very important to have the capability in-house to do the heavy lifting for anything you'd like to do where such libraries don't exist.  If you don't come across any situations where you can't find the libraries to do exactly what you want, your game is a mediocre clone and should be canceled immediately on that basis alone.

Certainly, licensing someone else's game engine can increase the chances that you'll manage to create a game.  But sometimes I think it tends to decrease the chances that you'll create a good game.  And what we really need are more good games, not just more unoriginal knock-offs from people unable to implement anything original.

And that, of course, is assuming that Atavism works flawlessly with highly optimized, highly efficient code that is very well documented and completely bugless.  Which will never happen with a software package of that size, as any programmer could tell you.

With Atavism you have the option of paying more for your license which gives you the ability to create your own Plugins... Problem is though that everything they have done is so closely tied together that once you start coding your own Custom Plugins you basically have to code all of the plugins custom and your unable to use any of their Plugins which defeats the whole reason for using Atavism...

I created a Crafting Plugin for them that was included with Atavism for a while... They then decided to create their own Crafting Plugin and it broke the ability to use my Custom Crafting Plugin. They really should work toward making everything more modular so you do in fact have the freedom to replace different Plugins with Custom Versions of those plugins.

Nice. Need to get the performance fixed though. It was bad to start then got even worse after the modular house was built.

I read that this was for Unity? Would people need Unity Pro to use this?

No it can be used with Unity Indie as far as I know though graphics won't be any where near as good.

Also they claim it supports thousands of players... In it's current state it will NEVER support thousands of players. Right now your lucky if it will support a few hundred. Until they add in the ability to Dynamically Load Balance the Servers it will only support a limited number of players... They have said that they will be adding in that ability sometime this year so we will see. There is also at this point nothing for Server side Collision, Physics, Path Finding, or anything like that. It's currently all Client side so Mobs still don't work completely right and they will go through walls right now.
what they fail to mention is half the stuff isn't there yet or barely works... The ONLY decent thing they have going for them is their Building System that's easy to get up and running and works pretty good.

Sorry JamesP, I know why you are saying this, but I do not agree. "Graphics" are really the most important way to grab someone now a days.

yet you can have the best most photo realistic graphics in the world and it would ALL be meaningless with out a solid Foundation of Systems and Features to back the graphics up... It's like a House...  The Graphics are the paint, siding, windows, ect... The outward appearance. While the Systems and Features are the insides, the support beams, the foundation, ect... With out the wooden support beams and foundation the house falls apart... With out the Systems and Features the Game falls apart and amounts to nothing more then pretty pictures.

Looks bland and looks are important.

lol It's still in development... Graphics are usually one of the very last things to get polished once everything is optimized.

All they need at this point in time is just enough Graphics to be able to test what they are doing and get the point of the game across so they can start advertising... All the shiny Post Processing Effects and everything will come later.

If there's one thing I've learnt in nearly 60 years it's that people and companies never fundamentally change.  They merely adopt a new guise for public consumption.  I wish you well as the new face of Greed Monger, but no matter how personable you and JamesP are, the founder of the company remains who he is.  Sending you in his stead, cap in hand, to the forum he threatened is laughably inept.

EDIT:  Thanks for the PM JamesP but I never read them and just delete them unopened.  I keep it for the forums.

Ok... I was just saying we are making some large changes which are starting to take effect. We are expanding our Team. In the last couple days alone we have added 6 or 7 new team members. I've constantly been Conducting Interviews and I have a Inbox full of Applications still waiting. I am not at liberty at this time to discuss the exact nature of these changes but I assure you they are going to help GM be successful in the end!

The Airdrops are free game for everyone... Someone could pay real money for them, call one in, and some random person could end up with it who never paid a cent for it. They are as fair as you can get. The People who are willing to pay for them do so knowing the risks and they agree to the risks and those who don't want to pay any money have just as much chance at ending up with a Airdrop as someone who pays for them...
Ok well I am just going to bow out of this discussion and allow Joel to handle things for now on here. We will be establishing an email address today where all questions, comments, and concerns can be sent to and we look forward to hearing from you guys!

lol you found me out... I'm Jason in hiding... Way back in January of 2006 I hatched this plan to launch a KickStarter for Greed Monger because I could see into the future and see that KickStarter was going to be invented and was going to land me a whole bunch of money so I joined MMORPG.com on January 4th 2006 as JamesP so I could have an alter ego that would try and help me on this site when I completely screwed up. lol

Doesn't that kind of sound a little strange? Of course I am NOT Jason... I joined this site LONG before I ever started talking to Jason about GM and joined him. Before GM I had my own Company and team full of wonderful creative people with all areas of expertise. Our Creative Director was a former employee of Sony with contacts with in SOE. We had world designers formerly in the industry, we had some young up and coming members as well just trying to make their break into the industry. Just a little hint though you will be hearing ALOT more from my Company in the very near future as soon as we tie up some loose ends. I've got my Business Partner back and we are attempting to revive as much of our Old Team as possible. Our PR Department will be getting active on here soon.

I think some people who have actually worked in the industry would tell you differently... Why do you think there are people leaving the AAA scene all the time starting up their own Indie Companies so they are free from "Suits" telling them what to do and how to make their games. They leave so they don't have their creativity stifled... Look at the Developers of TorchLight and TorchLight 2 alot of them worked for Blizzard I believe it was and they left so they could let their creativity shine through instead of being told what to do by their investors.

Look there's nothing I can do about sending out emails to KS Backers. I have no access to the KS User info. and I have no ability to post anything to our KS Page. Jason isn't around much to be able to email you guys. So everything falls on me for communicating with the Community. Every KS Backer on our Forum has access to a private set of forums where everything is discussed related to the latest release. I post info in our Chat on our Forum front page which ALL you have to do to get that is just be signed in. AND I post the SAME info related to Date and Times of our Stress tests with links to the thread where we are discussing it on our Facebook page which also get's posted to our Twitter account. There's PLENTY of places where you could have gotten the info that the client was now available.

That's really the best I can personally do. My requests to Jason to gain access to our KS Page and KS backer info have all been denied. And a few of my requests for him to send out info to you guys have also been denied so I have stopped even trying. There are more then enough places for you to get the info you need.

Like I have said many times our team made mistakes. We have learned from them and we are trying to move on. Please at least give us credit for how I have personally handled things in this thread. There's been no Fighting, arguing, threats of any kind, ect. and I personally have never been involved in any of that ever...

I'm not aware of any apologies made by those responsible for threats to sue posters voicing their opinions.

"our team made mistakes" - correct them...can't brush hubris like that under the rug. You want support but you censor offenses being addressed.

I'm not censoring anything. I'm ONLY the team Lead I can't tell Jason what to do. He's his own person responsible for his own actions AND he's my boss. He tells me what to do not the other way around. Personally ALL I can do is acknowledge that our company made some mistakes and try as best as I can to move on past those mistakes and make the most out of the situation. Which is exactly what I have done and continue to do. I really don't know what else I can do.

Just another "this game will change everything" kickstarter campaign? Well, the concept of this game looks pretty interesting, and it has an interesting modern-day setting and some nice key features, so we will see.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/asylum/identity

Just to let you know.

The hype train on a vaporware project. If they had a real handle on things, they could have gotten backing in the traditional way and not kickstarter where all they have to do is say, 'Sorry - it will never come out' and there goes your money.

I would rather throw my money into lottery tickets - at least it goes for something...

Traditional ways of getting funding comes with the price of investors breathing down your back telling you how to do your job and what features to add or not to add... AKA your typical themepark MMOs... That is completely NOT what they are going for. Which means getting funding from those who will be playing the game and actually want the game so enters KickStarter...

The reason why the phone number is needed is simply to be able to send you your user creditdentials.

So providing a fake number will never give you access to the site, as your password is sent by SMS.

We will never use the phone number for any other purpose or charge anything to your phone subscrition.

You could argue that this would be better by email, but we have landed on SMS in order to reduce multiple accounting (one account per phone number) and to avoid automated bot scripts filling up our universe with "bot-accounts".

The game launches on December 29 - you all are most welcome to try it out

Ok so if you really actually have anything to do with the game your saying you send the password through SMS... What would those with no Mobile Device do then? We are out of luck and completely unable to play your game? You DO realize not everyone has a Mobile Device so your limiting your potential Player base by only allowing those with a mobile device.
