Gotta agree. Nothing wrong with Qeynos or Freeport, they're great. But they really nailed it with the two new fae starting zones. And don't forget that there will be another new starting zone when the expansion comes out next month. |

Funny this is brought up today. Last night I'd had a conversation with some of my guildies as to whether to roll some alts and start a lowbie/training/teaching guild because there were so many new people on that they were filling up chat (I listen in on all levels) to the point where it became hard to follow the scroll. Nope, we're not on Antonia Bayle, either.

No offense meant, but I immediately noticed that the word "fun" was completely missing from your post. You certainly can play EQ2 "hard core", min/maxing, grinding, etc., but unlike some of the other MMO's on the market, you do not have to do so, to enjoy yourself. Just something to think about. I hope you enjoy the game, no matter how you decide to play it. |

I'd suggest you take the pills over a heart attack any day, son. Don't ask me how I know. After those pills kick in, then perhaps the thread will make more sense to you. In any case, it's really hard to take any more time out of my day for someone who has to stoop to name-calling. Seriously. You enjoy that mud you're in. No.6, you are absolutely correct, and I know better. I was considering the TSR-created box sets and blanked on the fact that Greyhawk is as old as D&D itself. To make it doubly worse for me, I own the original box set and one of the books in it is, of course, Greyhawk. Ouch! Thanks for the heads up. |

Hmmm... I am pretty much the casual player. Maybe an hour or two in the evenings if I do not have to get up early for work, and a few hours off and on during the weekends. One of the nice things about EQ2 is, as others have stated, there is always something to do and accomplish even in a short time. Incidentally, I also finally got my wife involved in the game. I have been playing for about a year. She has played now for about 5 months. She is one of the top leaders of our guild, her character is at the level cap and she has people asking for items she makes in her private-label "clothing line" (she's a tailor). Help. I am married to a hard-core gamer and didn't even know it! |

Originally posted by liddokun I had the same problem. Reading an NPC's input from the chat window, while it scrolled off due to chat was bothersome. What might help is to turn the chat balloons on - they don't scroll and do not disappear until you click on a response.
There are, at times, a lot of things of interest in those "fetch" quests texts that, if you are keeping up with the story, will help you to piece it all together. Good luck! |

Interesting. http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/10/19/biowares-upcoming-mmo-based-in-kotor-universe/ Editor's note #2 seems to say that they stand behind their source. We'll see. |

As I indicated, whether Turbine was allowed or not by Hasbro is not in dispute and is immaterial to the point I made about his post If you read his two previous sentences, he tries to make the point that FR could not be used as a setting because it was written prior to Hasbro obtaining TSR ("It was Wizards of the Coast decision to advertise their world (it's the only one they made in such extent. All previous worlds were done by TSR previous creator of 2nd AD&D. There was no way to make it Forgotten Realms settings. Get it?) The truth of the matter, as I stated above, was that had Hasbro wanted to use FR, they most certainly could have done so and mandated that Turbine make it so. It has absolutely no bearing on the issue that FR was released when TSR owned the company previously, as Hasbro now owns everything. It was a Hasbro choice not to make it FR, a good one I might add, but not one that was made because "All previous worlds were done by TSR previous creator of 2nd AD&D."

Originally posted by Thillian Obviously, son, you did not read what I wrote. Try the decaf, I think it will help your problem.
Bizarre.
In any case, my point, which you did not address, was that your statement that "There was no way to make it a Forgotten Realms setting" was, and is, simply false. It certainly could have been, had WOC (now Hasbro) wanted it to be so. WOC owns the Forgotten Realms, lock stock and barrel. If WOC wished it, you would all be playing in the Realms right now (although as I stated, I think that would be more of a disaster than what actually transpired). TSR has nothing at all to do with the situation any longer. Indeed, it no longer exists as we knew it. I never stated nor intimated that Turbine had anything to do with making the choice between Eberron or FR. That you seem to have made up on your own and have gotten all hot and bothered about it, for some unknown reason. Simply, try to remember that if you are going to accuse others of not "getting the facts before you post", be sure you are not guilty of doing the same thing first.

Originally posted by ThillianActually, that last statement is false. Physician, heal thyself. While Greyhawk, FR, et.el. were certainly created during and tied to 2nd edition AD&D, Wizards of the Coast (now Hasbro) purchased the game and its properties lock, stock and barrel. They now own Forgotten Realms. The creator, Ed Greenwood, no longer has any control over what they do with his work (this has become a point of mild contention since 4th D&D was announced and the conversion of FR is slated to take place after Eberron). So, while it appears clear that DDO used Eberron's setting in an attempt to promote it as the new setting for D&D (whether that succeeded or failed is up for debate), they certainly could have made the creative decision to place DDO in FR. Consider, however, how poorly their initial introduction of the game played out, and add to that a large number of irate FR fans, and I think that in the end Turbine made (or was forced to make) the best choice they could.

Who has the better "look" in armor and clothing is a choice each gamer will have to make for himself, but I want to make sure I am reading you right. It was the way the gear looked at end game compared to the rest of the game ("no better looks") that finally caused you to quit EQ2 entirely? And that "many players" didn't like the way the gear and weapons looked in EOF and decided to cancel the entire because of that? With the depth and complexity and everything EQ2 has going for it, I suspect some people might find that thought .... uhm... interesting. Just goes to show, that there is probably a game out there for everyone. |

There are simply so many things to do in this game (as opposed to some other popular games which funnel you only to the "end game") that you will probably find yourself making more time to play. You can: grind, quest, explore, gather materials, craft (which is a whole game in and of itself) decorate your home (which can tie in with crafting above), do writs to bring your guild more exp (which in turn leads the guild to more capacity in the bank and the ability for it and you to own larger and more elaborate homes), RP (two servers to do so, one is arguable the most populated in the game), earn new titles (pre-fixes to your name including limited royal titles), earn new hunter levels (ie. Hunter of orcs, Killer of Orcs, etc.). In addition, there are quests tied to specific jobs/races, which makes alts a heckuva lotta fun. Simply, you will find so much to do in EQ2, that if you can get past the "I've gotta grind to the end game to get my phat lewt" mindset that you might just find yourself enjoying the journey there more than the destination. EQ2 is not only geared towards those who want to raid and such, it is so much more than that. The trick is that you have to slow down and think, read and consider what you want to do - this game does not lead you around by your nose to only one end. Take your time and you won't miss most of the game.

Can't add much more than what has been said already but to point out that, in some ways, EQ2 is simply a bit different than many MMORPG's out there. There is simply so much to do aside from questing for loot that you won't find people standing around the cities. There is no need to promote your auctions via spam ala WOW, although I have seen it done, due to the manner in which the broker is set up. There is really no need to congregate around the few mailboxs (again, ala WOW) because there are a bunch of them in the world. My suggestion is to start a new character. Try a fae (one of the new races where people are still experimenting with) and give some of the servers suggested a try. Even on my server (Lucan - not the most populated) I can find people to talk to, group with, interact with and enjoy. Look for a good guild, there are many advertising for members. Just hanging around the city is not going to provide you with an idea of what the game has to offer. Sometimes, ya get back what ya put in. Good luck and enjoy the game! |

I think what is important to remember is that unlike some ultra-popular MMO's on the market, EQ2 is not geared nor structured to channel you 100% to the "end game". It is true that if all you play an MMORPG for is for grinding out the next "phat" loot, you will find a tougher time doing so on EQ2 - because that is not the focus for everyone on the game. There are simply too many other things to do, see and experience for many of the players. The "end-game" is not laid out for you in a structured channel. It takes a bit more skill and dedication than other games I have played. There are many games out there where grinding for loot is all there really is (or all that most of the players choose to do). EQ2 is simply a bit different in this regard.

Originally posted by observer I don't disagree with your last statement. Of course, one man's toast is another man's stale bread. One of the things I really enjoy about EQ2 is that there are thousands of quests - some tied to specific races and jobs - which allows varied choices and a certain amount of replay value. Heck, I've used up all of my extra character slots just checking out content. Best, -Jeff

Grow up guys. Sheesh, these forums are crazy. He is simply trying to open a discussion between games, and everyone jumps on everything like it's a flame war. You people that say "owned" at the end of threads only do so because you can hide behind the safety of a computer screeen.
One of the things seemingly lost to many people these days the art of the argument -- we can all scream at one another ala Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc. -- but few people can (or are willing to expend the effort to) dispassionately state a position and then listen to dissenting positions and consider them honestly. Where the OP failed is obvious, and therein lies the cries of "Troll", which might not be too far from the truth if all you consider is his opening post. In any case, what he has accomplished is to allow those who play the game a forum - in between jibes - to illustrate how well the game is doing and what a value it is for the money (ie. Bahumut's reply). I cannot say for sure, of course, but if the OP's thought was to somehow denigrate the game based on the comments he made in his opening post, he has failed miserably. If, on the other hand, his intent was to help illustrate the value of and how well the game is currently doing by playing a devil's advocate, he has also failed to a great extent. Were his intent simply to generate positive comments, it could have easily been done without the rancour generated by the opening post, and those in reply to it. And no, I expect nothing less than that from most (but certainly not all) here. I understand that, while that it may not be the case here, some people do get off on creating friction among other people. Productive and constructive social interaction such as what takes place in places like these is not an inherent skill - it is learned. And with all things, I guess, as we age, we learn and grow. -Jeff |
