Anyone who didn't see this eventually degrading to WoW vs. EQ2 somehow raise their hand

Anyone able to pull strings to get someone in beta before launch? I just looked into it today and am very impressed with the concept. If anyone can conjure up a key, they would own my soul for awhile.

NINTENDO FOR LYFE!!!!!
err.. wrong thread.. Anyway.. I didn't bother reading much of this thread because skimming through I see the general smart people who can appreciate both games for what they are, the people who have no idea what they are talking about, and those that are just trying to get a flamewar going. Don't get me wrong, forum flaming is amazingly fun.. However PC gaming is sacred to me. Like Bushido code or something. There is no reason to polarize WAR and AoC. They are certainly both at the top of my wish list, for a few of the same reasons and a few unique to each game. It is futile to debate if Game A is better than Game B while both are still in development. Even after they both are released, arguing which game is more l33t only leads to poo flinging and self-righteous people like me shaking my finger at everyone. =P |

The best game currently in alpha/beta

Gods and Heroes will be a breathe of fresh air, and the old video of the giant picking up and throwing the player still sticks with me. It has great potential, and story is a big key for me. I just hope they get *GOOD* voice acting and do live events.
And my main draw to WAR is definitely Mythic and PvP. I don't think I have ever had more fun than within the first couple years of DAoC launch doing 20-24 and 30-35 battlegrounds. Real RvR was hit or miss, but generally exciting. Mythic knows PvP, and WAR lends itself to that setting. It will take colossal mistakes to screw that formula up :) AoC just seems to be a complete package. Great setting with tons of room for good lore. A well thought out levelling system last I checked. There will be an epic battle for my subscription dollars. And generally the game I have a pleasant beta experience in wins(DAoC, AC2, and CoH all got my money because of my beta slot). ((Whereas AutoAssault, SWG, Lineage2 and others only left me with a passing interest..) |

Gods and Heroes does look good as well. I forgot to mention that one.
The only problem I have with LOTR:O is the tie to D&DO... I really really disliked D&DO... But I also think the D&D system crumbles to nothingness and tedium in a computer game. (NWN included) |

I don't know anymore.. During its development cycle, Dark and Light looked to be one of the best games of all times in my opinion. I am not sure how I could have been more wrong =P
Conan and WAR look solid.. Tabula Rasa could be some great coop mmofps fun. And Pirates of the Burning Sea sits on a razor's edge. It is far too easy to screw up pirate themed games.. But those 4 are my favorites for the moment. |

Originally posted by TristamIzumi In all fairness, I should have said "Favorite role." Even in a nonstandard, skill based system, you will likely be playing a character like one that exists in a set system. And if you have class based games, I feel bad for you. There are so few true skill/attribute based games out there. Wish was going to be a great game, but the axe of financial reality slayed that one. |

Thanks man, you are my new best friend =P
I am actually upset NCSoft didn't throw me a bone to begin with. I have beta tested all their stuff, preordered CoH and AA.. But we shall see.. DR looks spastic enough to hold my interest atleast :) |

I have actually sunk a solid couple of hours into Rappelz and and pleasantly surprised so far. Nothing outstanding mind you, but it feels a bit more complete than some of the others I have tried.

Well I am happy to see my thread can bring so many people together.
And don't get me wrong, I appreciate that they are free. It works out well, I have what I like to refer to as Gamer's ADD. I am the type of MMORPG'er that creates a character, plays for a few days(or hours) and rolls another. There are few mainstream mmo's that I haven't tried pretty much all race/class combinations =P I think I had about 15 DAoC characters in their 30's before I had one to 50. ... and I am still laughing about Gameroardring... good stuff. |

Cool, this is exactly the type of discussion I wanted to see.
And my favorite class of all time so far is the Warden from DAoC. Any class with a jack of all trades feel has a better chance of keeping me interested longer =P |

Originally posted by jairus That would generally fall under Utility Caster.. And to the other list of classes pointed out here, I can agree.. but that is too vague in a way. |

Originally posted by Xpheyel Hahaha.. nicely put.. I also forgot about archers in this, but for most purposes stealthers are going to encompass that. And about ranged DD? That would Offensive Caster, right? |

Since every was universally disgusted at the stupid poll that was made with 3 choices, I thought I'd make a better one :)
I think it is a pretty good list being limited to 10 choices. I could extend it a bit =P edit: yes! you can't edit typo's in a poll.. So now I look like a moron! |

I just want to know if anyone actually enjoys playing any of the 437 MMO's that use the same cookie-cutter engine and are natively Korean or Chinese(Flyff, Hero, Priston Tale). Obviously they all have micro-gaming aspects, but apart from that are any of these worth it? It seems that when I give it an honest effort I am turned off by the horrible grammar, generic anime inspired models, and shallow gameplay. That is even factoring in microgaming boosts.
Anyway, would like to hear thoughts about these cookie-cutter MMO's that are floating about. |

I know exactly what Hasani is talking about. There was a strategy involved when you had 8(originally 8, not even 10) in DAoC. Guild Wars kind of glorifies this tactic on an extreme level, but it did used to exist in MMO's. Think back to Evequest. Memorizing spells! It wasn't drag a spell or ability from your character window to your hot bar, it was taking up a memory slot!
Anyway.. I think developers should try to walk the middle path on a game by game basis. Some games benefit from mods and others do not. The developers will make the decisions that affect gameplay mechanics. Blizzard (mostly) knew what they were doing. And any time someone comes up with a flagrant exploit they are very quick to deem it a no-no and code it out in the next patch. |
