I think you're right, MaDSaM.
Ryzom seems to me like a brand-new game with lots of fresh gameplay ideas that never get old ... because it has ever lived in a sort of frozen state ... it has still to develop its potential. It hasn't reached all his potential gamers (they are now playing something else, I suppose). It could be born again one day. |

I didn't know ... that's worrying ...
I've just started playing (well, just a few hours, I will be busy for a few days), I've bought the old retail box (very nice packaging) and I've entered the serial so I will be able to play in the mainland untill October the 20. I've followed this game for years without playing it (I was a bit frightened) but now I'm really glad to be here ... I hope everything will go well.
Ryzom deserves better owners ...

Me too :(
I wasn't at home yesterday ... I've logged in only for a few minutes but it was late (my wife was awaiting me). Silan was almost empty. I've seen daestny and a small group of players that were playing trivia. Too bad this important anniversary has been celebrated only by the GMs and not by GF :( |

It seems that no one has still posted a comment about the third anniversary ...
GF has been a bit too silent lately but the community is alive and kicking as ever and the game masters have done a great job yesterday, so ...
happy birthday Ryzom!
I've just started playing so I'm very happy to see that the community still love this game.
I only Hope things will go better.

Anyone know what this game was called? if still alive?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/30/07 3:58:19 AM
It has been reviewed here and there a few years ago ... it seems it was an interesting MMO but I've never heard of it before.

anyone besides me glad a SCI FI MMO is coming out?

>I am pesonally glad a new current/next gen SCI FI mmo is coming out
I love the typical western fantasy settings (and visuals) but ... I'm glad a Sci-Fi MMO is coming out. I'm especially glad that Garriot is the game designer behind this project :) Neocron 2, Matrix Online and Planetside are ok, they all sport some interesting ideas but are too limited in features and lack the visual appeal of most mainstream MMOs like WoW, LOTRO, GW, Lineage 2 .... TR is shaping up very well from the artistic point of view (although it's really early to draw conclusions, of course). EDIT: I've forgotten AO ... this game is not too bad but personally I've found it rather boring. |

Very nice screenshots Jackdog. I also agree with you that people have to look the game running to believe how its visuals work.
Landscapes are marvellous but to be honest I still don't like the models that Turbine use for playing charachters, NPCs and mobs ... it seems to me that in the creation of the landscapes and of the characthers they have followed two very different visual approaches ... like there were two separated teams of artists working on the game's visuals ... (sorry, my English is terrible this morning). |

but name a publisher who doesn't get bashed by the gamers? 8 million served or not, people bash Blizzard daily. Same with EA and Microsoft. Stupid patching policies aside (I'm looking at you, Microsoft) if the quality is lacking, blame the developers not the publisher.
Oh, yes ... I agree with you. Although I'm not playing SoE games at the moment (I'm still looking for the right MMO for the old, slow and casual gamer I am), I've loved EQ2 and I've even played the old Everquest Mac Ed. for a couple of months (don't laugh, they may be few - only 3 or 4 hundreds players - but it's the best community I've ever met). SoE has a lot of experience and it shows but lately I've found its vision of the MMO market a bit vague ... Anyway, maybe because I'm a journalist, I'd prefer to observe what happens in this industry and remain silent instead of blaming every game that doesn't come up to my expectations ... On the contrary, I think that this industry is a melting pot of talented individuals and I think there are good ideas almost in every major MMO out here ... Now, let's hope they're checking our applications for the beta :) |

Well, I don't dislike SoE games but I think Sony - as a whole - is crossing a very down period. They have lost their focus ... it reminds me of Apple in the 1990s.
I have to admit that NCSoft MMOs seem usually well-finished ... |

Excellent review, Elikal. I'm a journalist and I really fall in love with this kind of reviews ... I mean, it's not a matter of how well this piece of writing is written ... it's the approach that is exemplary.
Having said that, a project this farsighted like VG deserves a bit of faith and attention, I'm sure every passionate gamer will agree with me. It need focus and a lot of hard work ... I really hope McQuaid and his team will find all the time and money this game needs to become enjoyable and to find its (sustainable) market. VG fans need to calm down and start loving their neighbour. |

Thank you very much for the infos.
I know that the requirements I've posted are the recommended requirements. Usually the "recommended" requirements are more revealing than the "minimum" requirements ... my computer met Vanguard SoH's minimum requirements, for example, but ... well, you know what I mean. Judging from the most recent videos I've seen in the PlanetTR fansite the game seems very polished indeed. I hope it will preserve its visual appeal even on the computers that meet the minimum requirements ... |

I've posted my request yesterday ... can't wait.
These are the current recommended system specifications:Windows 2000/XP/Vista Wow ... the requirements seems pretty demanding, I hope the client will run properly on a mid-range setup ... Wich valuation methods are going to be adopted for the selection of the beta applications? |

The EQMac community is small but still alive and very, very friendly with newcomers:

Very well written ... I think this article has captured the real essence of this game. The "focus on story" aspect of the game could be its strenght but may also kills its gameplay ... a though challenge isn't it?
