Thing is in GW2 how do you assist someone when alot of your skills are ground or projektile targeted and not guided to target spells. and when 1 simple warrior can charge up a shiled  the reflects all incomming projectiles around his supposedly ganged partner, youll see a world of hurt to your assist range train that are so popular in open world pvp games.

Then you got aoe knockbacks etc for the melee assist gangbangs.

It is kind of like in HoN (heroes of Newearth) where in many matchups you face nasty aoe disables, that makes you spread out all the time from your teammates and that workes as NASTY counterattacks to melee gangbangs on your friends (think Tempest/Keeper/etc ultis)

There are mechanincs to prevent assist powering, and it seems to be in the game! Its just that they have been rare in mmorpg before atleast in the games ive played.

OT: To be fair, fighting the same pvp battle ground over and over and over again also gets old, unless you add in new skills, new levels, new battle grounds, new stuff to fight over etc.

Just as with PvE where there needs to be more content added if they want ppl to keep playing. EvE is a prime example of how they have to keep adding stuff to pvp with or for.

 

Also i agree PvP is awesome! i love it to the extreem since im comming from Starcraft, Lineage2, EvE, WoW Vanilla (always made new characters on new realms that where added to get fresh start and pvp like MAD when leveling) etc.

But just becouse i enjoy pvp alot, doesnt mean i want every game i play to be Adrenaline fist pumping madness gaming! (althou i want it alot :p)

Sometimes i just want a good singelplayer game with a nice story (FF, Zelda etc) or a fun Co-Op (Phantasy Star Online, Perfect Dark, Borderlands or what have you).

Sometimes i just want a Racing game or fighting game.

Sometimes i want Co-Op on big scale, with RPG and adventure! - FFXIV is pretty alone in this regards, with competition from games like Lotro and FFXI mostely. Sadly i never enjoyed Lotros Classystem that much (not my type of classes basicly) and i missed the FFXI era, wich makes me droolin over FFXIV atm. Especially since i plan on getting all my PvP i can ever need from Starcraft2!

 

PvP mmos require jsut as much content to it as a PvE game, you get tired of the same PvE dungeons, you get tired of the same class and battleground PvP. (and i mean the same, even balancing means work and added stuff)

Mixing them togheter makes it a jack of all trades, or more often a complete failure ^^ (Lineage2 and WoW are 2 games i think did both good (not perfect))

 

TLDR note:  Adrenaline is alot of fun and PvP brings that alot. But being hyper is not the only enjoyment. Engaging your brain in puzzles, exploring, socializing or Achiving a goal (no matter the size) are all forms of entertainment.

-LOTRO "pvp" is a joke, it is not real PvP with your actual characters and progression, so most do not bother with it for that aand several other reasons. They could completely remove it from the game and it would bother very few people currently playing.

-Youre trying to compare games with PvP in them as if all games are equal in all aspects EXCEPT for the having PvP part, as if they are all FF + PvP or something. Many of the PvP focused games have dozens of other major issues unrelated to PvP (such as horrible support, lack of promised content, game breaking bugs,  etc) which caused their downfall / dwindling numbers. It is not BECAUSE they have PvP that they failed.

-Simply inserting PvP into a game does not make it a good/great game, it has to be done well. PvP does not = good, good pvp = good

Considering the above 2 points, PvP is very important to many more peoplethan you would like to admit, it is just a matter of so few games actually doing an even decent job with it, let alone doing it excellently. If the proper game had everything to offer, including well executed PvP rather than it being almost an afte rthought or simply horribly designed, you would not see it fail like many of the games released the past few years. Some people are willing to suffer through any horrible gameplay and design in order to get their pvp fix, and those few still play those games, but everyone else has left due to many other issues, not due to the fact that it has PvP.

And probably a big part of the reason those games had alot of flaws is due to the fact that they had to merge in pvp with it all. Mergin in a meaningful pvp system is an _extreem_ resource hog wich will dramatacly cut down on the time you could have spent on other stuff. Just the simple thing of balancing the classes..

I believe Square realizes this, says lets not try to force pvp and recieve a huuuge amount of time to do an awesom pve game, and i bet you in the end theyll have more customers that way in the end.

 

Most ppl didnt leave FFXI becouse it lacked PvP, they left for the same reasons most left Lineage2. It was a korean group grinder with (i cant really speak for ffxi hear, but from what my classbuddies told me at the time its true that ffxi suffered from high RMT damage at that time) alot of BOTS and RMT.

Lineage2 had PVP as a major concept and was actually one of the best PvP systems ive seen yet to date for open pvp (if you could handle the RMT wich they didnt), yet still they went down in flames in US/EU for the same reasons FFXI did, Groupheavy, Grindy, alot of DUALBOXING etcetc.

PvP also goes against what FF is and has always been.  FF, in any form has been working as a team/group to overcome immeasurable odds and "save" the world, etc etc.

 

There are plenty of games on the market that offer PvP and PvE.... NONE have gotten BOTH right.  At the expense of ruining both by trying to balance around the complications that arise, I'd rather a company focus on one, than the other.

 

The PvP model of having pvp servers, or pve servers, rp servers may work well in other games, but by no means does that mean that ALL MMO'S have to follow the model.  Unlike most other MMO'S, FFXIV is cross platform for each server, and EVERYONE in the world play on the SAME servers.  

 

This means you have different cultures, languages, and personalities all playing at once.  I'd rather a game nurture the attitude of working together to get something done rather than an emphasis on killing/griefing someone half way around the world.

 

FFXIV is about working together, not against each other.  99% of other MMO'S offer that if that's what you like.  Please stop comming into a game forums and trying to change what a game fundamentally is.   It's been  in development for 5 years and if there's no PvP at launch, then it was NEVER intended to have PvP.  To include PvP in a meaningful way at this point in development is to fundamentally change FFXIV.  Long story short, you will never see meaningful pvp in this game as in WoW/Aion/AoC etc.   By meaningful, I mean somethign that is fundamentally part of the game, and not as an afterthought.

So......

 

Why not accept the game for what it is?  Try it out, if you enjoy it, then by all means please stay.  If it's not your cup of tea, move on.  Like most things in life.

This and also alot of ppl like me for example get our competition shots from playing rts, fps or even a second mmo game (like starcraft, eve, lineage2, wow och mw2 for me.)

A mmo doesnt have to include "direct confrontation pvp" do stand alone and strong. And having pvp in a game is not all flowers and bees. There are drawbacks to including it. The time alone you would have to put devtime on to balance an open classsystem skills to work for both pvp and pve is huuge.

There you get another drawback with pvp also; skills can never be "op" if they are to work for pvp. I could go on but really, they have said no to pvp on release and im thankful for it and believe the rest of the game will be so much better in the pve area becouse of it.

 

P.S - Typing this shit on iphone with swedish spelling was not really working, had to edit atleast some shit on this post from my PC to make it atleast resemble a decent post, sry for the eyes i hurt before the edit and i know its still not perfect >_>

After playing Aion preview beta 2 and 3, i just cant justify paying for my WoW account anymore, Lineage2 is Bot or Die these days and im not in a EvE mood...

 

Im boored out of my mind, its only dreaming of Aion...

 

The only game for me atm is StarCraft... That hasnt failed for 10 years, and it doesnt fail me now...

1999 called and said they want their game back.  The graphics are pitiful and dated.

 

2009 replied: GTFO -99 The epic world pvp and sandbox attitude are finally here again and were not givin it back!

 

(I say that, yet the reason i do not play DF is due to animations, wich is in the graphic department - but im rooting for DF to stay strong and perhaps be the start of a new wave of sandbox games with more budget (Blizzards new mmo COULD be a total oposite from WoW so they can get the "other" customers - i know many hate blizzard in here - but if they aimed to make a hardcore game, it would rule :D )

Dont worry, they are not scaring that many people.

New players can live with bad servers at launch, its one of those problems that will go away since it always gets prioritized.

I have not preorder (couldnt be arsed to really, RL) - and im on the backburner here. But i can tell you one thing, bad server problems at launch is nothing. What will scare me off is if i do not enjoy my first and second day playing the actual game (and yes ill oversee lag problems and DCs, i will not oversee boring gameplay).

 

It was the same with AoC, everyone that was blizzfully unavare of the 20+ content where screaming of orgasms even thou they had sever lag problems on many occasions. PPL start leaving in masses after seeing the world outside the beautiful tortage...

 

 

I have lost alot of gaming interest the last month so im not sure if i can be arsed to get darkfall, or if ill just continue some casual gaming on my ongoing games (EvE, WoW, L2). But posts like these just tells me that the haters got nothing more to complain about then server problems (wich to mee seems more good then bad). then again i guess most ppl havent gotten to log in yet also hehe!

I think this expression is very much suitable to Aventurine and Tasos.

The amount of secrecy surrounding Darkfall is unlike any other game ever produced.

After over 6 years in production nothing is known about the game - that didnt come directly from Tasos or was reviewed and approved by Tasos. No independent journalist belonging to recognizable blog or website ever played the game (except mmo.italia ... that could as well be a pizza caffe in Napoli) The game was never featured on no festival. Simply nobody really seen the game - except few greek investors and 2-3 people that are good friends with Tasos and claim they played it.

Game was supposedly beta tested by players. And now even more suprising there is a joke "open beta" that is closed more tightly than a clam. And yet only beta leaks are 2-3 blog posts that are probably fake and 5 screenshots?

Just to illustrate this - you could see hours of leaked videos from any other MMO in closed beta. Isnt that suspicious?

And just think - they announced there will be PREORDERS , and that they will give a trial so the people can decide if the game is good before they preorder it. And than they pronounced NDA on TRIAL.

 

All in all Darkfall seems to be the best kept secret in history of gaming.

Darkfall is a product. You need to show a product before you sell it ...dont you?

 

Would you buy graphic card from me - if i told you that it can run Crysis on ultra resolution with maximum details and all with 200FPS.

Only catch is that I can not demonstrate this to you.
Nor did anyone ever actually seen this GFX card in action. BUT I PROMISE - buy it and you will see!

 

Its almost like they do not actually want to sell this game...

The fact is actually far simpler..and mostly harmless

 

Darkfall promised a lot. But also Dark and Light did, and Roma Victor and Mourning and Horisons...the list goes on.

They promised. They tried for 6 years. They managed a little - and now its pointless to continue. So they are releasing.

They didnt want to make a big fuss. Perhaps they are bit embarassed , even.

They want to push it in quietly. Get odd few hundred of players ( and i assure you this is the max for their servers ) Perhaps even just Greek and Italian players (hence mmo.Italia coverage) and go quietly into night...

But they unintentionally stirred big fuss... and now they dont know what to do...

There is ALOT known about the game now thats comming from leakers after the latest batch.

You say they need to show the product to sell it?

I say it needs to be finished before they show it!

 

Im not a fanboi, but im starting to lean on the optimistic side of the Tasos "lies" - becouse i have found alot of reviews from leakers. And they are loving it (no not like another WoW monster, but like a good FFA PvP game that wont fail like DnL).

 

9/10 leaks (its more like 10/10 now) are very positive about the game. I WILL NOT be surprised on another delay thou, it can very well happen if Aventurine feels its not ready at 25th.

People got to start to realize that nomatter what evidence is put up, no matter what good reason we can come up with or aventurine is offering,

the haters will ALWAYS choose the worst reason, and nothing but a gameclient and an account is proof enought that it exists.

Trying to calm there minds with optimism is futile. If you are a hater or just very very sceptic and shouting DOOM on anything aventurine tells us - then i we cant help you. All you can do is wait for the game, keep making DOOM threads and in the end be surprised or confirming you where right. Some DOOMers are already confirming they where right thou..

 

If you by some chance feel that you are able to see other reasons as the worst, and have a little more trust to believe that it exists without having to play it yourself. I do recommend you search for the leaks. Google.com.

 

fact:

- only 1/10 leaks so far has been near negativ. And they mostely flame the game for having full loot or not looking like AoC. There was one ive seen so far that actually went into some good negativ parts he had experience.

- out of the PRO-DF leaks (the optimistic ones) only about 1 or even less raises the game to the skies. Most leaks states the game is very good and people who enjoy this type of game will most likely enjoy it.

- the patchnotes show that they are still doing alot of last minute changes (like UI changes i assume most ppl already know of by now from the locked thread we had hear a couple of hours ago).

 

Why is the NDA up?

DOOMers will say: It sucks so bad, its vapor etc etc. I agree it can be really bad still.

A bit more optimistic: Alot is still not turned on or is still in for last minute changing (like the spawns put on, ui changes, dungeons and its spawns etcetc.) If Aventurine showed the game as it is not to any reviers, the game would be giving alot worse firt impressions. NDA is dropped when they are ready to have some serious reviews and not get there rep down the drain.

 

If this still hasnt given you any kind of optimistic sight, you still only see vapors and DOOM. Im sorry, i cant help you. You might also be right in many of your accusations, then again so may I and the even the fanbois (althou i seriously do not believe this game will be a WoW killer or anything near that heh, im even doubting the graphs will in the end be good enough for me - world graphs are ok, but im VERY picky with animations).

I have to say that when i heard the news about the NDA being up after the 22nd, i was just about to give in to the troll within and cry DnL-ware.

However with the shitloads of leaks thats been flooding out the last days, and all the comments from the beta testers, and by far the biggest leak; patchnotes. Lets just say i havent been this optimistic about the game ever (i still see it as a small game witch is suited for me, for example my whole guild now dont have a clue about this game, and i know none of em would follow me).

 

My biggest fear is the animations and graphics, and this movie is a nice collection of alot of that stuff. It isnt really up to my standard thou, but i have seen alot of pics with higher graphic settings so im still hoping i can get over it.

Gotta say thou, the world looks simply astounding in these vids.... first time since Lineage2 Chronicle1 that i have felt this need to explore (yeah i ran Aden at lvl 25 in mid NG gear as fast as i got to see the cruma tower and had to know what more was out there, and i wasnt dissapointed hehe, ivory tower , Tower of Insolence (the old version before it became a dungeon) BIIIG, and Aden Castle Walls in the horizon, the castle and the city... )

I have to say, from the leaks it seems aventurine is talking alot to its testers (well surprisingly alot if you compare to what the public gets) - The patchnotes shows they are still polishing alot and doing changes.

 

My main worries now are for some higher graphic settings then in this video and skill balance.

 

The movie showed a good nice collection of clips, i atleast enjoyed it and if the maker is reading, thanks for making it. To all the ppl who are pissed at this maker becouse he only used old clips, not his fault the movie was awesome if you consider what he had to work with

There are ALOT of people that take competetive to serious, and will use any loopholes.

Its becouse IP banning wont work, that it cant and will not be used.

 

A system like that is used to lessen the work on the moderators (or in this case make work that would not be done, done by the users). However, they will have to put some serious early punishment on the ones that abuse, so the people that would want to abuse it feel that theres a fair chance theyll get cought.

Now if they dont do this early it will go rampant and they will never be able to catch up (sure they can ban alot, but it will be alreay to big so most get away).

 

And well, i will not be convinced NCsoft West will be able to handle this unthill i see it with my own eyes. Dont get me wrong i Love NCsoft, i just do not really trust em with handeling the userbase and cheaters that good outside Korea.

Im optimistic in NCsoft actually trying thou, if we had this kind of devotion in Lineage2 3 years ago, daaamn would i still be playing!

Both videos I've seen had them fighting 'goblin scouts'.

None knows, not even the devs knows if theres more.

They are just that hard to get by, none has really succeded - and predictions are that the first server who manages a co-op of 250ppl will have a chance of getting past the goblings to the world. PvP defenses are not included in this calculations.

There so fricken hard that althou the devs think they have put in mobbs, they have yet to confirm since the goblins are even pwning the /DEVTELEPORT command....
