Funcom has absolutely NO CLUE what good customer service is. If the guy is exploiting and maybe he doesnt know it, you dont ban him. Thats rediculous. Here is how I would have taken care of it.

Hello Anemia this is GM Hamr.
Very funny thing youre doin there by jumping in the fountain to avoid the guards.
Unfortunately that is considered an exploit at this time and Im going to have to tell you to stop.
Can you do me a favor and let anyone else know that if they are doing the same thing its considered an exploit?
Just remember..if you get caught doing this again we will have to ban you for 24 hours.
Thank you very much Anemia and enjoy AoC.

Now I think anyone who wasnt sure if it was an exploit or not would come out of a conversation like that a happer camper and at the same time help the GM by warning others of his experience. AoC employees seem to be clueless like the devs.

I am in a kin of over 250 people who raid 4 x a week and are very active in PvP. I wouldn't describe  us as "hardcore" because that definition is just e-p**n waving. We are dedicated to the game and continue to derive a great deal of enjoyment from it over a year after its inception.

100 hours a week? Shammalammadingdong! thats crazy!

As of today AoC lost almost 3000 more hours from last week. People must really be taking some extra long vacations.
The number of players has also dipped. It has been 6k+ and today it shows 5k+. I still continue to see a trend here.
<modedit>

Wait till after 7/27. For those who preordered we paid $5 for the download and a week of play. My next billing date is 7/27 so I bet the numbers go down again on the 28th. Good thing I wont be seeing Funcom on my next cc bill.

Its the international transaction fee. Your bank charges you 3% because you are paying $15 a month to a company located outside the u.s.

Last month, my charge was .30 so I guess my bank charges 2%. I wont have to worry about that charge anymore because I canceled that pos.

Ok, turning the argument a bit, I dont think AoC deserves all this hype..as in, all the Negative Hype. Its not a bad game, just young. However, since there is a lot of hate against AoC. My question is, if not AoC then where?
Will you go back to WoW?
Will you go back to EQ2?
EQ1?
...Fly for Fun?
The Default answer is "Wait till WAR
"...However I wager that many of the AoC bashers will also Bash WAR for the similar reasons (It'll be a good game, but not pristine and perfect out of the box). Who knows what WAR wil be like on release and when the release will be.

So, list what MMO you plan to play because AoC failed to entice you.
RULES:
1. Only list MMOs. No listing console games, or FPS
2. No Need to Flame, just by writing a response you have demonstrated you are one of the upset players and have (or will have) moved on.
3. List only MMOs that are currently released and available to be played. Just like WAR the "IM waiting for the next big thing" doesnt help the average player.
4. List the MMO and what it is about that MMO that makes you go to it. It may be that you can aid others like you

No offense but you better take off a clicky. Any websites that have gold sellers on them is strickly forbiden.

I myself went back to the "bread and butter" of mmo's........swg

AA...the game was better before they patched it than it is now. I could have dealt with the bugs and all, but the patches were brutal. Nerf this nerf that, make this stronger, make this weaker, shorten this timer make this timer longer, etc, etc. I know they are just tryin to make the game better but Im at the point where I dont think they have a clue what theyre doing.

I hit the cancel button the other day when they nerfed the terrain. I am a lvl 75 guardian in keshatta tryin to make it to 80. I jump up on a hill (a hill I have been on many times before) and I cant get up the damn thing. I was like "wtf??". After a few tries, I fall through the terrain with npc's attacking me as Im swimming to safety under ground.
I swim back to shore and then go to another hill (that i knew I could climb the day before) and the same fucking thing happened. As I sat in the water under ground, I pondered if AoC was worth my time and money to put up with this shit. It only took me about 30 seconds to log off, go to the subsciption page and hit the cancel button.

After I hit the cancel button I went to the AoC forums to tell of my misadventures only to find my account banned for a week for trolling for telling this story. After I saw that, I deleted the whole game from my comp and threw the CE box in the trash.

I will NEVER buy another funcom product EVER. And I hope those pricks go out of business for all the lies and bs that they have told all of us mmo gamers who paid to play this pos.

You hit the nail right on the head! From now on before I look at another mmo, im gonna search you out and see what you say about it. I never thought AoC would turn out to be this big of a piece of garbage.

That's the public information about Funcom that the masses will see, not whatever appears on MMORPG.com forums. So why would they care?

As for why they'd remove something that's existed since Closed Beta...why wouldn't they if it becomes a problem?

Do you play? Are you getting spammed by gold sellers all day? Is server lag an issue? Could the removal of server-wide search functionality help the servers the same way the addition of a cooldown to the Trade Post search does?

Have a theory on why they'd alter Trade Post searching as well? I sure can't find many Flawless Star Rubies for sell lately, does that mean AoC is tanking?

Get real. Anyone who plays and is tired of receiving PMs and mail from gold spammers sees this as a good thing, and not a connection to some amateur info painting a picture counter to what Nielsen paints.

Yet, you would think, based on Funcom's admittance that they wish to see a total of 3k players per server at any given time, they would account for maximum loads on their servers. This should prevent server search spikes.
Yet, no server ever hit this peak during the time before search was removed.
And why would a thread discussing the search tool be blatantly closed on the forums, and the person who created the thread given points toward banning? Because he mentioned server populations? Is that against ToS?
As to gold spammers, do you think they took their time to go through each page, and right click each player to send them a tell through roughly 30 pages of 50 players? No, now Funcom has made the job of the Gold Seller even easier, where they have to concentrate on only 50 players per zone.
Funcom actually made the lives of the spammer much easier by removing the multi search feature.
Searching the Trader is a whole other story. That thing has been buggy for so long, just looks like another bug to me. And the fact no economy exists in the first place...except for gems, which still act buggy at times.
And to place Funcom in the same ranks as Blizzard and Maxis is even funnier. Funcom had 2 months so far of big sales thanks to magazine reviews for the 1-20 game, and as the public becomes more aware of the issues within the game at higher levels, this will not stay a top 10 game for long.
Xfire has proven a downward spiral, and based on forum discussions of empty servers, I do not see anything good coming of this.
But, rose colored glasses help, and I hope they do not break on you, like it has for so many others..
Cracks in AoC
Watered down combat
Finally hit 49, scared of the gaps at 50+

(EDIT: a Note about the sales situation "Australia loses AoC on top 10 chart"...oops)

You sir get a big QFE from me. This game needed at least another year before its release. Funcom will be out of business before the end of 2009.

You guys are being a bit silly to believe the search function was restricted due to amateur analysts. Funcom's the only current top-selling developer for the PC besides Maxis and Blizzard, what would they care about any John Doe from these boards?

And are you not being naive to think it was not removed due to concerns of numbers.
Why have something that has existed since Closed Beta, Open Beta (the one that is still going on actually), until a week after the post I had shown from the person whose thread was locked.
And, why would you think Funcom is a top-selling developer? Where do you get the numbers for that "fact"?
Example: Top 25 PC games of all time - IGN = No Funcom
Top Rated games - Gamespot = No Funcom
But I did find this
Wiki - List of best selling video games

There is AoC...right next to that other awesome game....Deer Hunter...WOOT!

Pretty good point actually. But the question remains. Why wouldnt they post it in the patch notes with everything else? I could see something like this.

"We have disabled the search function to 1 page to cut down on the gold spamming, guild recruiting, etc, etc till we find a better way to reduce such spamming."

But nothing was there about it so Im guessing its the reason that everyone here on these boards thinks it is.

Just my 2 cents.

And the funny thing is Huxflux claims he doesnt even have an aoc account?
He goes on these boards defending a game that supposedly he doesnt even play. I reaaly do think he rides the short bus.

I see AoC this way.

When Katie Couric joined the CBS news team there was a ton of hype.  So much hype that her ratings were through the roof her first few weeks.  After that, everyone who was watching thinking that she was gonna do a great job discovered she sucked doing the evening news and went somewhere else for their evening information.

A few years later she has the worste ratings of all the major networks and CBS is looking to get rid of her.

Bottom line is,,,AoC had the hype but now people are discovering that the game sucks and now will go back to what they were playing till something else catches their eye.

I was a fanboi at first and hoped that this was the cure to my mmo fix (which hasnt been satisfied since pre-cu swg) but it wasnt.

To me AoC was pretty fun the first 45 levels or so but as I increased in level the game got worse. Not to mention the horrible patches. As I approached lvl 70, all the 80's in the guild were asking "Now that Im 80 what do I do now?" there just isnt enough content in the game to keep people interested. End game sucks, crafting is an absolute mess, instead of fixing classes they just nerf them. Lag spikes happen all the time.

Its total garbage and I think funcom is goin down in flames in a year or two. They might be able to ride the ship with 1 mmo disaster but not 2.

Because more were ordered for those stores. Its call Stock Check. You only get extra in if you need it or if there is a demand for it. So why are they getting extra? because there is demand still is the most logical answer and with AoC still in the top ten PC games sold per we according to NPD results..

Avery...stop it with the super fanboi schtick. I read your posts before release and bought into all that you had to say. Now that its 2 months later I have to say that youre full of crap. The game sucks. I bet 75-80% have left already or are gonna leave soon.

Funcom stock is falling like a rock. I bet it folds in late 09 or funcom will have to sell it to another gaming company. Funcom has no clue how to make or run a successful mmo. Im just pissed at myself for throwing away $90. Funcom lied...bottom line.

Please go see your shrink and up the dosage on your meds. I think its clear who is right and who is wrong about the OP's question at hand. Instead of flaming someone for no reason, why dont you just give the guy your opinion on which would be better.

Just an fyi....The day the game released I went to BB right when it opened up...I went to the software section and didnt see any ce editions around. I asked the guy workin if they had any and he told me they had a box at the service counter. I walked up and saw just 4 copies and asked if I could have 2 and the guy (who looked around 20) didnt care and he gave me 2 copies even though I had only 1 preorder.

Since I knew they were "limited" I figured I would hold onto 1 copy and sell it on ebay 6 months or so down the road when it went up in value. After playing the game for 2-3 weeks I returned the other copy because I knew this game was gonna be a total bust.

If you look on ebay now, you can pick up a copy for around $80 U.S. (last i checked was a few days ago) which is $10 less than what they went for at release.

Take my advice and return it if you can. If you wanna play AoC, buy the regular edition. The CE isnt worth it.

Hope this helps

For someone who bought the CE i can tell yah..its a waste of money. So you get a book and a map along with a drinking cape (that really serves no purpose) along with an xp ring that gives an extra xp percentage (2 or 5%..cant remember) till level 40. Its a total waste of money for the extra $40.
