Is it just me or do people not talk in mmorpgs anymore?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/18/09 3:19:50 PM
I blame it on the games themselves actually, for instance, SWG of old. If you had wounds you had to find a doctor or find a camp site set up by a scout or ranger and for relaxing your mind you found an entertainer. If you wanted the good armor or weapons you made friends with the best crafters in the game and so on. SWG had one of the best communities I have ever experianced in a game until they messed it up. Nowadays most things looted far outway the crafted items most of the time and you dont really take any actual battle damage or fatigue that requires you to find someone to help heal it which in turn usually started conversation and so on. Today most people just talk in guild chat and like someone said a lot use Ventrillo or Teamspeak. I still like to say hello to people I run into or help someone I see that might be in need even if I dont get a hello back or a thanks, to me it doesnt matter its just something I prefer to do. Unfortunately most games today do not worry so much about community, its more about just supplying someone a place to go and enjoy to take the everyday stress away. |

I'm looking for the kind that requires an active brain. I'm looking for the kind that encourages social interaction. I'm looking for the kind that used to be made, before they started being massed produced for the inept masses. SWG had an awesome housing system(only one major flaw which was easily fixable if SOE was at all competant). Great game. I loved the housing and guild halls of SWG and people really went all out to make theirs look unique. Some were turned into shops with multiple merchants some just displaying rare items they collected and so on. I am so glad I took a lot of pictures of the housing in SWG, I never would of guessed housing would never be like that again.

Had to laugh at this, good one! |

I do many things in this game and still have my share of purples and I hardly ever run dungeons due to my game time. I cook, fish, help guildies and even strangers I see having problems. There are a bunch of things to do in any game you just pick something and do it. I do not have to run dungeons to get things, I do not have to be mister high and mighty. I play the game for the enjoyment of playing. I have a real life and a real job so why make the game a job as well? |

Originally posted by stayontarget Expect to see this in the early stages, like the first 2 map's (lvl1-20). It does lead you in one direction. After that it does open up and you can explore more.
Well that is something I am glad to hear. I can deal with it in early levels as long as I dont feel so tied down later on in game, eases my worry a bit. |

Wasnt talking about the video, meant the actual game. Somewhere in the forums here it was talked about by someone playing the game currently, compared it to AoC actually. Oh fair enough. I don't think its as closed down as AOC though ? Honestly, this game feels like the world is completely similar to wow, and i dont mean that in a bad way because ive played wow for a really long time. My guess anyway ;P we'll all know for sure when the game hits the shelves. Well thats good to hear, like I said I will wait and see once it comes out. If I could I would definately be playing the korean version but thats not possible atm. |

Love the videos and many things about the game but the damn follow a path idea instead of exploring where ever and whenever has me bummed. We shall see I guess, definately worth trying out. |

Another Round of Server Transfers 3/31/09 (No April Fools Joke)

Maybe you think you could have done much better than they did (and are still doing) with Warhammer. Even, like it or not they are the one managing the game. I keep saying they did a good job on that part plus they had the balls to start merging servers so soon after launch. It took longer for AoC to do the same and years for SWG... Is the game perfect... far from it. Even provided WoW and War launched the same day War would have the 15 million players not WoW. People keeps playing WoW not because it's better, not because they are addicted to it. They keep playing it because their subconscious is used to it and your subconscious doesn't like changes. As example, if someone is used to be unhappy and starts getting happy, soon or later he'll fall again In the background his subconscious will do his best to bring him on the way he's used to be, because changes are his worst enemy. (You know the little voice in your head saying that can't be/last it's too good/I don't deserve it). Do you know it takes around 21 days to your brain to get used to new activities and you'll have to fight against yourself very hard to do so?
I really hope you are joking with that statement, you have got to be smoking some serious shit to come up with that. Why people even try to compare the two amazes me considering one is more PVE and the other RvR, and sorry to say but I think the RvR game was a huge disappointment to many. |

Yes it is true; it is in a beta stage for testing while in live and there is an option to turn it off. |

Originally posted by Papadam I have never seen anyone agree with any of Trancejeremys post so I would take what he says with a grain of salt. Most of us here dont know if he is trolling or if he is actually seriouse (same thing on the offical forum) Here is my answers to your questions: 1. I dont play in US but they say Brandywine, Landroval and Elendelmir are the most populated (or even over populated). Landroval is unoffical RP server and Elendelmi is the unoffical oceanic server. 2. All classes solo pretty good. Hunter or maybe Warden is probably the easiest to level. 3. Moria is Moria, either you love it or hate it ;) Not sure if the classes are available but I think so. 4. I like the starting area for men and hate the one for Hobbits but some think differnt. They recently revamped the area for Elfs/Dwarfs. 5. Instances/Raiding is ok right now. There was only 1 raid boss in Moria at launch but they are adding a new one in book 7 and and large raid coming in book 8 so there will be plenty for you to do when you get there. And yes its easy to level up .They changed the xp curve in to latest book so lvl 1-50 is abit faster and 50-60 is slower. Personally I dont enjoy lvl 35-40 very much but the rest of leveling is great. After 40 you have alot of options where to level and you wont have any problems fining qests both solo and group. Just wanted to add that Silverlode has pretty many peeps as well, I mean I always see others around no matter where I am in any zone. Leveling is very easy, especially for casual play now that they revamped the xp curve. I find it to be a great game as long as you forget what you used to do in WoW... race to max level. Instead Lotro is more about the journey so dont rush to get to max level just enjoy the game as you play and you will find it is a great game. I find myself not even realising that I have leveled because I enjoy where I am at and what I am doing, there just doesnt feel like I have to rush and that is a welcomed thing for me. |

It's pretty much like AoC in terms of zones. The zones feel decent sized, and the maps look big, but in the 2nd zone for instance, big parts of the map isn't even reachable. Here's a screenshot to show the 2nd zone. I highlighted the red areas to show where you can't go.
Zones are pretty much following the road and doing quests at a hub and then you'll get a quest that will move you to the next hub. You're basically guided where to go. When your'e done with the quests in the zone, you zone to another zone and start over. If you didn't like it in AoC, I don't think you'll like it in Aion. You don't really get the sense that you're in a world that needs to be explored, it feels pretty confined to me. I'm only 36, so maybe it opens up towards the end /shrug With that said, I absolutely love the game and will buy 2 (maybe 3) accounts when it's releaed in the US, one for me and one for the girlfriend. The graphics are really refreshing and even pretty. Yeah I said pretty! Well except for most of the environment textures, they're pretty horrible in most cases, as you can see in the picture and that's at absolute max settings (i wish they'd up the textures to match the great characters!) But it does have it's moments, like the cities look amazing and there are some really neat uses of lights and clouds. Sometimes they pull it off, but once you get close it's a bit messy. It will be very interesting to see what kind of characters the US players go for. On the Korean servers, they REALLY like the shorties. About 3/4 of the people I see bare barely up to my knees, and I'm dead middle on the height slider haha. Though I have made a few shorties myself, one is a little dwarf looking character and the other looks like a young boy wielding a huge 2 hander. They give the illusion that they're running REALLY fast compaired to the really tall characters that animate very slowly when running. Just don't get your hopes up on thinking it's a huuuuuge world to explore, you won't really find it here. You can't fly anywhere you want and you can't stay in the sky as long as you want, you're limited to specific areas and zones. Damn.. That paragraph there just might of killed all interest for me in this game, oh well. |

Well considering I just started playing this a couple weeks ago with a few friends and already level 25 through casual play I would say no its not too late.
I still see people in the starting areas and all through out any town I have been in. The community is great and the game is a blast, I have no problems getting gear and if you do there are always items on the AH from crafters as well. Give the free trial a shot if your not sure about it. |

Not at the moment, those seemed to be the main ones I was trying to figure out. Thanks again! |
