Asian version of Darkfall 2.0 is going to be free to play!??

Intresting...

I just don't like seeing gross mis-information out there.  This is a financial results report.  This is the real deal.  A lie can land the CEO in jail.  If someone pushes it as a lie to hard they could land in jail too.  Yes, they would have to REALLY go overboard but its possible.  This isn't a kids report card they are talking about.

If the 1.7 million subs is a lie the SEC can fine EA heavly for giving out false information to share holders.

Here is the website to file a complaint: http://www.sec.gov/

I highly doubt the numbers they gave are wrong.

It's always the player.  You just can't please everyone and the few with issues have the loudest voices that the sheep follow (to other games).

Shadowbane remake with a real engine (BigWorld Technology).  Several developers and investers of that game are big Shadowbane fans.

It is a Shadowbane remake with ideas pulled from other older games too (DAoC, UO, EQ) that is built on a real engine instead of some junky engine built from the ground up (ie: Shadowbanes failure).  They are using the BigWorld Technology engine.

Need a forum for this new MMO.

I will agree their timeframe for lauch is very aggressive but then again its the BigWorld engine.  How long did World of Tanks take to launch?

Let me first tell you that the following story very well could be bogus.  I think it will be impossible to verify unless Bioware/EA makes a statement on the issue (who knows if they will).  That said, I have a hunch there is something to this.  And that something stinks…

It is well known by now that Star Wars: the Old Republic is fairly linear for an MMO.  How linear?  Apparently it is linear enough that if a low level player decides to take the risk and journey to a high level planet to loot a chest, they will be hit with a banhammer.

Here is the supposed ban e-mail from Bioware/EA as posted by Bionic711 on Reddit:

Here's the e-mail I received with identification information removed.

We are contacting you regarding your account
for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. We wish to notify you that we are sanctioning your account for violating our Terms of Service. From an investigation of your account we can see that your character, , was used to violate our Terms of Service on the server.

Specifically, this character participated in looting high level Loot Containers on Illum while being well below the recommended level for the planet. By utilizing these Loot Containers, the account was able to acquire, distribute, or obtain currency, gear and equipment not meant to be acquired by low level characters (below level 40).Illum is intended for Level 50 characters and this is clearly communicated in game. By ignoring these warnings, the account showed intent to exploit the game.

As you have violated our Terms of Service we will be applying a ban on your account. We are banning your Account, effective immediately. Continuing to violate our Terms of Service may result in further action against your account up to and including permanent account closure. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with our Terms of Service which can be found here: - http://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBTERMS/US/en/PC/

Thank you for your understanding.

The TOR forums are digesting the news now thanks to forum-user Blackk .  The player reaction is largely one of disgust.  Though some players are rightly pointing out that it could be a bogus e-mail.  However, the e-mail seems fairly well put together and Occam’s Razor (in my opinion) is only cutting in one direction on this issue.

Should the TOR community be upset over this?  Should the MMO community be upset?  If we take these claims as legit, I’d say so.  There is a long history in MMOs of players doing this sort of activity and not being banned.  Higher risk should equal higher reward, not a ban because your world design is quite obviously flawed.

Around 5 years ago as a lvl 25 Dwarf Hunter, I took a long trip from Booty Bay and then to Ratchet in Kalimdor.  After a long, long, death ridden journey to Aszhara, I caught some Stonescale Eels and later sold them at 1 gold a piece on the AH.  It was one hell of an adventure that made me good money for those days.  x Had I been banned for it, I am sure the Lich King would never have been defeated by my party of heroes.  Nor would have Blizzard received so much of my money through the years.

P.S. This is my first post on MMORPG… long time lurker, just needed something of substance to report.

Also, when I was under level and fishing in Aszhara I once had to call a GM to get my ghost out of a hole.  He laughed, helped me out, and said “have fun”.  Thanks for not banning me Mr. GM.

Very Bogus.  I was on ilum at level 25 farming boxes and my account is still active.  Sad they removed the boxes.

I have it running fine on a HP Pavilion DM1z.   This is a netbook/ultra portable that has AMD's E-350 processor/GPU combo in it  in it (AMD Fusion: 1.6 Ghz CPU and AMD Radeon HD 6310).

Coming from a year of Darkfall and two straight weeks of Mortal Online, in spite of what I read in the forums at those games and here, I found myself purchasing and downloading SWTOR to be ready to play at launch. I was ideologically (said with a slight tone of sarcasm) opposed to playing theme park games on the basis of [INSERT REASONS HERE - you know, there are zillions of threads on this here, so I won't rehash why sandboxers hate on SWTOR].

Nevertheless, I found myself in a hurry to create characters on an EU pvp server, to reserve all the names I wanted for my toons there. I rolled 4 EMP and 4 REP. Extremely happy that I was able to get all of the names I wanted, I started playing my trooper, then switched to bounty hunter. I find the Empire stories much more engaging. I really wanted to try to be on the blue side in this game, but I just can't get into it. I think there are more EMP than REP, but I don't know. I usually like to be on the underdog side. I could talk about story, and maybe I will later, but I'm only to 11 now on my BH. I still have to make the choice about whether to tank, dps, or heal...so I took a break to play my Sith Warrior with all the 13-14 year olds on my pvp server. But it's fun! So I'm dealing with it.

So what's the point ? Well. it's the story. I f----cking love it!!!!  I hated to admit the big evil corporation that spent galactic loads of money on this game got me. They did. I don't feel like I'm questing or grinding at all. It's fun killing stuff through ranged or melee. I like the colors and the sounds. I love the voice acting (on the Empire side, not the Republic). I love "choosing" what to say and making decisions. It worked, okay. Bioware got me addicted and connected to playing MY character. Of course, I know it's not MY character, really, but it's fun.

In the final analysis for me, this is a game. A good game is fun. There is no ideology in gaming! (Think of Tom Hanks yelling at Madonna in A League of Their Own: "There is no crying in baseball!")  It's just fun. I don't care if it's a single player RPG with other players in it, if it's "on rails," if it's properly an mmorpg, or not. Who cares? I don't want to be right. I just want to have fun when I play a game.  So I just take SWTOR for what it is. Fun.

Right now, this sandboxer, for lack of an engaging and pleasing sandbox game (which for me means the fun far outweighs the frustration), is playing SWTOR. I don't know how long I will play. I don't care. I feel I have already gotten my money's worth out of it and I still have a lot more to play with the other classes.

I play Skyrim when SWTOR is down for maintenance. It will be up in about 3.5 hours. I will be back from having dinner with a friend of mine, I will pour myself a glass of wine, and I will go get my Sith Warrior his new light saber and fret about why I just can't get enough darkside points to break out of neutral. Why??? How can I be a Sith Warrior on the Light Side? But I just can't make myself shock the Tweelek girl....grrr...

Any other sandboxers playing SWTOR?

Old school UO fan here (before trammel and the death of the first real MMO).  I have been on the theme park roller coaster of hell while jumping off to play good games like Darkfall and EVE Online for awhile now.  I will say SWTOR is the best theme park I have come across.  Bioware is known for good games and continues to impress.  Wish Blizzard could of done the same thing.   Warcraft and Warcraft 2 were bloody good games of destruction and chaos.  Blizzard ripped the WAR out of Warcraft when they released that pile of trash.  Something I will never forgive them for.

...and I love SWTOR.  Bioware did a good job with this carebear game.  I don't even mind doing the quest in between warzones.

Bioware has lived up to it legacy.

PS: So many bad threads (mostly because of queue) that I figured I would make a good one.  In a few days when Bioware's launch plans are complete things should look better.

Richard Garret should sue Eurogamer over this unless he did let that trash website interview him.  If he was in talks its all over   but the crying now.

A long time ago I said that Jedi would outnumber Sith due to the fact this is a "blue" game (like DAoC was with Albion zergs).

I was wrong.

Eurogamer is a trash website.  Don't beleave anything they publish there.

Republic: 484
Empire: 2224
Really?

How do you know each guild has equal pop? What if the Republic guilds average 4x larger than Empire guilds? The answer is that you do not know either way. So chill.

Thats players, not guilds.  134 guilds on my server and 2708 players total.  The website could be hiding some Republic guilds or my Excel skills suck.  However I am seeing complaints on multiple guild forums about how screwed up deployment is.

Deployment is not set in stone, you can play any server you wish, but its a simple numbers game.  Why couldn't Bioware do it right?

To give exact numbers now that I have them, my server has:

Republic: 484

Empire: 2224

Really?

Every server I have looked at is off balance.  There is either 2 billion Jedi and 200 Sith, or 2 billion Sith and 200 Jedi.  Why, Bioware, why???  It's not hard to count numbers and make servers even!!!

Gaming keyboards > Macros

Doesnt everyone love it when someone has an advantage you dont?

I bet its Asian IP's.  Specifically China.  I know the Chineese loved Shadowbane and games like it (super hardcore open world open loot).  Knowing the developers have been in talks with Asian developers the past few months that would spike the intrest in the game WAY up.  Over there 50k players is a drop in the bucket.  Also 1000 CN players vs 30 NA players is not fun...

Its not about number, or sales, or any type of math.

You* are the WoW Crowd.  Yes, you*, reading this, right now.  The only exceptions is the non-WoW crowd.  The ones playing Darkfall or Ultima Online or other innovative games that are not level/quest/structured games.  You* are the sheep, we are the wolves.  Now go eat some grass.

*as in 90% of the players reading this post.

Well then.  Looks like I shall re-download the game to my new system.  Maybe having 200 more FPS will help with my RL skill problems.
