Acceptable amount of classes in an mmorpg
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/07/09 9:06:02 AM
It's not the number of classes that are important.
It's the amount of diversity you have. Champions doesn't have classes, they have powersets. The more you got, the more diverse builds you have, and thus a more personalized experience you have.
That right there is a key ingredient to success for a game. I have been playing Dragon Age... while single player, and a couple of classes, it is very diverse. |

Fallen Earth: Post-Apocalypse? There's an App for That
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/07/09 8:41:21 AM
Funny how a huge step forward for technology and gamers quickly turns into a "this platform sucks" discussion. I personally think that is very cool stuff. And it is no different than lacing your favorite drug with another to make it super addictive. Sincerely, awesome job guys. |

Is Fallen Earth already Busted and should it still be in beta?
Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 10/29/09 7:34:27 PM
Thanks. I like my name too heh.
But, the fact remains, RMT is illegal in ALL mmos. And I am certain it is somewhere in the EULA, cause that damned CoC is pretty detailed.

"Oh dear, I am sooo sorry that you had to endure this, and your friends get banned for breaking a cardinal rule in EVERY mmo out there"
Go somewhere else to get your rocks off Troll.
The game is horribly bugged. It has some serious issues. But at the same time, it is very very fun to play. If you cannot find people to play with, then you should re-evaluate your online social skills, cause from what I see... /EPIC FAIL!!! |

I thought Aion was using the Farcry engine. *shrugs* guess that was my mistake. |

He had dumb luck. A fragged hard drive is not going to net you high FPS. The FPS will stick when the delay happens. If he was experiencing a "horrible delay" it was the result of his packets getting all bunched up, then burst in/out, then bunch up again, etc. Having played MMOs and FPS games overseas, I know how he must feel. His system can handle Crysis, it can handle FE. And that thing I read about it being a MMO making it a different animal and not the same as FPS is bunk as well. If the guy can handle Crysis graphically, he can handle any MMO out there to date. The delay he is getting is lag. Not his system. Read his first 2 comments, it rules out anything local. |
|
|
Yes, but that would not be latency, like his chat and interacting with the environment. With his FPS being at 100+ that kind of rules out local system as the problem for his lag. It ends up being his router, ISP or just his location. Kinda like him living in another country. It's ok to be wrong. Even way out in left field wrong. Even Christopher Columbus wrong.
But I sure got a great laugh on it LOL! |

LMAO!
Ok, sorry, but this is really really funny. The problems ole boy is getting is the lag. Latency. Latency and FPS are two different things. The way Fallen Earth has their stuff set up is much like how CoX has their Chat System, or even other games like AoC. Different databases, and they are communicating at different speeds. Even the gameplay is associated with a different database, which would be seperate from the graphics/sound portion. LOL, what's your hard drive speed. Classic. |

CrimeCraft: Going Free-to-Play by End of October
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/06/09 10:42:00 AM
I liked the game in beta. Then they had a total shift near the open beta of how the weapons worked. Then during the stress test, there was a problem with the stacking of defenses. Basically a whole assortment of issues, and seemingly being ignored by the devs from the posts made and bug reports submitted. Plus the crafting part was very very... well it sucked LOL. It wasn't really finished or polished at launch. And that was the main part Vogster said they wanted players to get a feel of since it was in their name. Balancing issues aside. I really did like the combat aspect. No jumping is total awesome-sauce. The look and feel and play control was totally spot on. Now the out of combat bit.. sucks donkey nads.
They should have stayed in beta for another 5 months. Too bad. I did see good potential in this game. Now the only hope I have left is for APB. |

Honestly, it isn't the graphics... eye candy wise... What the underlying problem is visually is the animation, ui and overal clunky feel to the moving and selecting items, etc. The game went leaps and bounds from closed beta to open beta/stress... but still... Expections are what they are from folks. |

Star Trek Online: Bonus Item Offer with Star Trek Blu Ray
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/29/09 4:03:23 PM
Do you want to sell 100 copies of the series on DVD format for $100 or do you want to sell 100 copies of the series for $300? Gotta do the math. And yeah, I know those aren't the prices.... |

One of the Republic classes will be a jedi.. duh. I just hope they make the jedi and sith have two completely different combat feels and not a clone of one another. No pun intended. As far as the other classes... It's up in the air. I think a Mandalorian would be a good addition to the Republic to offset the Bounty Hunter. Mandalorians and Sith don't get along remember? |

I get what the OP is saying. The characters are too... shiny. Even after tweaking the video options, they are either way too bright, or way to dark. Not enough "gray" so to speak. But they do move well and have good animations. Except for different power types. For example, using the energy building power with Munitions and autofiring that, then using the first electrical attack.... does not always work, and can get frustraiting as hell to use. The two different animations don't flow with one another. Respecing is a pain in the butt too. You can only respec a certain number of powers back. Once you hit that point, you are forever stuck with what you have. This includes not only powers, but the stat increases and power increases as well. I found this out the hard way when I hit 11 once that I couldn't respec my first 2 powers. This means you have to some extreme planning beforehand. Not only for your powers, but your stats, your power perks, and all that jazz. I don't like the instancing. Hate it in fact. One can use all kinds of justification for it, but I think it is cause they dont have the hardware/coding to support one server. Not enough mobs to kill for the quests? Make the area bigger. Too many heroes flying around? Make the zone bigger with other points of interest to have them hang out at. But that's just me. I did find out though, that this will be the first game ever I dont have to Name Farm at launch. Because of how they handle the name system, you can name your guy just about anything. Rock on! You can have 500 people named Iron Man just cause that's how the system is set up. Speaking of which. Cryptic really flipped off marvel with this game. You are able to create reasonable likeness of a lot of your superheroes from Marvel. Spiderman, Iron Man, The Thing, Hulk, Cyclops, Nick Fury, Firestar, Storm, Ice Man, Human torch, Mr Fantastic....... the list goes on and on. Not only that but most have the same powerset combos to make those characters. Want to make Ghost Rider? Pick up the Chain Lariat. Iron Man? Too easy, they have the Power Armor powerset. Spiderman? Pick up web grenade, the force energy builder, Lightning reflexes and the swinging power. It won't be exact, but pretty dog gone close. There are TONS of little pop culture references. Like there was a quest called "Fought the Law" and when you finished, "the Law won". I thought that was funny. You save Foxbat in a side quest and he goes crying about seeing a GM to get a different respawn point. I mean yeah the dialog is over the top, but Hello... your main Super Hero , Defender is like 8 feet tall with Arnold Muscles on Steriods times 100. The whole thing is over the top.
Is it fun? Hell yes. You may not have this game being your main,,, but as a game on the side, it wins. |

Can you multi class? Like Ranger/Cleric or Fighter/Rogue?

Can we please get rid of this crap? I log in, see I have 5 PMs and they are from spam sites. Which may or may not contain viruses, etc. I have enough spam in my email and in game. If you guys really truely feel you have to have this for whatever reason, please enable a spam option so that someone can verify that the user is spamming and deal with it. This has been a growing problem over the last week or so, and I am waiting for the stupid gold farmer crap to come through.
Thanks. |

correspondent articles --- fact checking
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 1/13/09 11:03:41 PM
If someone wrote a freelance article in the New York Times newspaper and a little disclaimer says that the author doesn't represent the paper.... then writes some untrue crap... legally yeah the newspaper would be ok.... but the image of the newspaper would be comprimised, because the public would see the trash that was being printed.
Sorry, but I gotta disagree. Anything that is announced by MMORPG.com and labled MMORPG Correspondent... then that tells me that MMORPG is backing them. It isn't "Normal" posts... the normal posts are for the discussion... the actual guides, or overviews are in fact saved on a webpage, and not a forum post. |

correspondent articles --- fact checking
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 1/13/09 8:18:26 PM
The OP is correct. There are a large number of articles that are out there that are totally wrong. I remember going off on a Ranger guide for Age of Conan... talking about things like height actually increases range and a lot of other wrong information. This holds true with a number of other "guides" and "reviews" from correspondents. Spell check errors, ok I get that, but saying something that was never true, or treating rumor as fact.... Not cool. I like the correspondent program, but there needs to be someone to actually review the completness and truth of the information published, because... I am sorry but even though they aren't on the staff of MMORPG... it still represents them. |
