In all fairness to Zaxx - I think he is complimenting you on the post. He is just referring to the polarization on a lot of the other posts on this board... It seems to be either 'love it or hate it - no in-between'. And I agree with Zaxx - that most of the posts on this board, up until now, have been very black or white - not a lot of grey... I don't think he was critical of your post at all! |

Nice isn't it? I had the same thought myself when I was at a BloodFang encampment last night. I'm not leveling as fast as you are. The reason: I want to spend time and enjoy all of the aspects of the game. So I'm doing everything really slowly and enjoying every minute. People aren't going to get it until they can load up a decent box with the right hardware...but that time will come! The thought I was having: "Gawd I hope they keep making expansions to this...I'm seriously hooked!" I was doing a bit of questing near a Bloodfang encampment, trying to avoid the roaming band of about 9 or 10 Blookfang Patrol NPC's (gawd that is cool) and I looked off into the distance. I could just barely make out this flying beast in the air. And I mean this thing was WAY up in the air. Totally cool. I went a little further and I could see that it was a level 38 drake, just hovering in the air - WAY UP! Absolutely astounding. I am running a beefed up duo core - Vista box - so my graphics settings are on high. But the effect of this thing, maybe a mile or two away just flying in the air...breathtaking |

Hi, I think the article is very well written, but I think it gives an unfair account on several points. First of all, all my games run fantastic on Windows Vista. I've loaded up Guild Wars, WoW, several first person shooters, Auto Assault and Vanguard and the performance is not only flawless, but downright impressive. I'm running Duo Core 2.13 with 2 gigs of RAM and a GEForce 7600 256mb card. Everything runs great if it is supported by decent hardware and a decent processor. In fact, it's quite astonishing. Secondly, the conclusion on Vanguard is dead wrong. Last night I was loading video from my camcorder in the backround while running Vanguard on all HIGH settings. Vanguard was running without a hitch. Not a single hiccup, or framerate loss, or anything. I kept flipping between applications and the processor was yawning - literally asking for more work to do. Also, the conclusion on audio is off base. The audio is fantastic in Vanguard running under Vista. It was so brilliant even during the load of the CD's all I could do was sit there and crank the speakers and just enjoy it. Also, during gameplay it never cuts out on Vista (it does on my Pentium 4 HT 3.0 though - running XP - it's choppy and horrible actually) and is absolutely fantastic. The key is that a box needs to be equipped with the proper hardware to run Vista, and then the results will literally blow you away. There is no reason to avoid Vista in my opinion. They have paid billions of dollars to develop this operating system, and it really shows in every aspect. I do not with to bash the author of this article, but in my opinion it is not a fair assessment of the state of gaming on Vista. |

Sorry to say this guys... ...I've been in and out of Auto Assault on my Pentium 4 3.0 HT for the last month or so. It's been okay. I mostly group up with my son and slaughter things. On this box the graphics are so-so, performance is also so-so. I've recently completed building my new Vista box. Core 2 Due, 2 gigs Ram, a decent video card. So the past couple of days I've been loading up various applications and trying them out. Today I decided to load up Auto Assault...OMG!!! This game is completely different on a decent system. With full out performance and a decent graphics card - what a blast!!!! It's completely different. Wow!!!! Runs great on Vista as well. I really don't think folks will give this game a fair shot unless they're running it on a well equipped box. The difference is amazing!! VERY COOL! |

Sigil Customer Service - a transcript
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/15/07 4:18:41 PM
Disclaimer: I'm not a Vanguard or Sigil or Sony hater. I'm actually enjoying Vanguard very much right now (i.e. I'm sticking with it while they work the kinks out) - so this is not a slam post. I just wanted to have some fun while the servers were down today... ...a transcript has been intercepted from Sigils Customer Support line. Let's listen: Sigil CS: “Sigil Customer Support – how can I help you?”... VSoh Player: “Hi – I’m a new subscriber to Vanguard and I’m having trouble running it on my machine!” Sigil CS: “Okay Sir, I can help you with this – can you tell me what kind of machine you are running the program on?” VSoh Player: “Sure – just a second” (sound is muffled due to player capping the receiver with his hand) “…ya Marty, those aeronautical, jet-stream simulations are done, can you send them over to the NATO tracking station right away?...” (sound is normal now) “Sorry – I’m trying to play a bit over lunch time at work…” Sigil CS: “That’s quite alright sir. Can you tell me what kind of machine you have?” VSoh Player: “Yes – it’s a 3rd generation Cray 9000. It’s my…” Sigil CS: “Sir I haven’t heard of this computer model. Is it a Dell?” VSoh Player: “No – it’s a Cray 9000” Sigil CS: “Is it made by HP or is it an independent brand of some type?” VSoh Player: “Ummm – it’s independent. Hang on a sec, I’m sorry” (sound muffles) “…Jimbo those quantum particle impact analysis’s are complete for MIT, can you ftp the results over to them…Thanks!” (sound normal) “Sorry again – busy here…” Sigil CS: “Well I can’t seem to find any record of that type of PC, can you tell me more about the speed of the processor and the video hardware?” VSoH Player: “Sure, it’s a Cray 9000 – running a Windows XP emulator with an ATI graphics card cooled by a vat of liquid hydrogen…” Sigil CS: “Hmmm, sounds expensive. But I’m sure it will run Vanguard just fine. Can you tell me a little bit about your internet connection?” VSoH Player: “Yes – we have triple redundant 100,000 gbit/sec fiber optic direct connect to the internet node right outside of Sigil CS: “mmmmm that may be your problem, have you considered upgrading to Cable?” VSoH Player: “Sorry – hang on a sec again” (muffles) “…congrates Pete, your particle acceleration graphical simulation ran in a record 30 seconds again! Kudos! The Swedish Consulate will be pleased!!! Clap clap (unmuffled) “I’m back – thanks for your patience” Sigil CS: “Sir – if I can ask, what exactly is the trouble you are having” VSoH Player: “Well everything on my system seems to run fine. I mean we have the weather modeling algorithms that run fine, along with our bio analysis for John’s Hopkins University chugging right along – and of course these things run just fine until my level 6 Dread Knight tries to do some crafting – just a work-order mind you and then my fps rate goes down to nothing and my music cuts right out…” Sigil CS: “hmmmm – have you considered upgrading your system?” VSoH Player: “Well – Cray does have a new model…” Sigil CS: “I would suggest doing that. Is there anything else I can help you with today?” VSoH Player: “No thanks! I’ll begin working on the paperwork for funding right now! PS. I love the game btw!” Sigil CS: “Thank you sir – have a nice day!” |

Nights in Vanguard are STUPID, USELESS and UNREASONABLE
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/09/07 9:48:15 AM
I must admit that night time in EQII bugged me...it was just way too dark. However with Vanguard night time is executed a lot better. You can actually see what you're doing and the visual effects are stunning...

/agreed - this is going to be a great franchise! If they spend the next year building upon what they already have it's going to be a very formidable work! I'm enjoying it very much as well! |

I just completed about a week in Vsoh as well. Hated it the first night. I was banging my head against the wall wondering why I went out and spent $$ for a retail copy... ...but I thought I'd give it a try. I gleened some video settings off of this board and i got the game to run better. Now after a week I can't wait to get back home from work to play it. Dunno. I think it might have to do with the community. Every group has been great and I can tell that I'm playing with a more mature crowd. It's slowly sucking its way into me...lol I can also appreciate the fact that they've roughed in the world and content a bit, but they did it in a way that leaves room for a lot of expansion and possibilities in the future. I hope the complexity of the game keeps the younger players away. I really do enjoy the groups that don't spam 'u suk healer' or 'learn how to play your class noob'...etc. etc. I'm so done with that. Every person I've grouped with in the game has treated the game just like that: it's a game. And it has been enjoyable. Dunno - think I'm gonna hang out in Vsoh for awhile. I think the game has a future and I'm having a good time with it... |

Yes - dang it - and I really wanted Vsoh to be something special. I picked up a retail copy last night and played it for awhile - and probably will level a character up a bit. But I can already tell I'm disappointed... I've got a 3.0mhz with a decent video card and the Vsoh performance is horrendous and things look crappy. It's choppy and all in all not fun. I even lowered the settings and things did not improve. I don't want to shell out $300+ for a high end video card just for this game, because I can tell already that it's not going to be for me. I just don't understand why I can fire up Guild Wars or WoW on the same machine and have no problems. Brilliant graphics (for their style) and excellent performance. What went wrong here with Vsoh? The game mechanics and graphics in Vsoh are so similar to EQ2. Well really, I shouldn't say that - the game mechanics are not as polished as EQ2 by any stretch. They seem labored, stale. For example in Guild Wars you really feel like your in the heat of the action when playing your character, but in Vsoh I feel like I'm just looking at something going on. I don't feel connected to it - but this may be because of the performance issues I am having - so this is probably not an issue that everyone will have. I'm a software developer, and a big fan of the MMORPG genre. I've lost a year and a half to WoW (had a blast) and I've put my time in on a number of other games. I know how much effort goes into a work like this, and I would never, ever bash a development team that puts their hearts and souls into a game such as this. The reason is: I think EVERYONE WANTS NEW GAMES TO SUCCEED!! We wait for these new works like the new season's TV shows or the next CD from your favorite artist. We want to see what new stuff can captivate us from an artistic and technical point of view. We want our entertainment icons to SUCCEED because we derive great pleasure from the experience(s) that they give us. That's why we give them our hard earned money! So when something comes up that does not honor this, I think we all feel dissappointed and bad for the developers. What's going on? WE TRULY WANT TO GIVE YOU OUR MONEY! We enjoy this stuff!! We will gladly pay $15.00/month for an engaging, rewarding and entertaining experience. We truly want you to succeed!!!! I also think this is magnified if a new, or break off vendor comes onto the scene. How many of us really wanted Guild Wars to succeed because it was developed by a break-off, spliter group from Blizzard? Vsoh is the same way. This is a Sony/EQ break-off, splinter development group. We want you guys to give us an alternative to the BIG GUYS (i.e. WoW, EQII and others), but it's not going to just be handed to you. I personally am very happy at the success Guild Wars had because they did something different and absolutely wonderful. They deserve all of the success they have - and I hope they have more. I really think a lot of people wanted (want) Vsoh to succeed - because we're pulling for the developers. We're pulling for the amount of time, money, dedication, and heartache that it takes to pull something like this off. We also don't want the big guys to dominate the market (SOE, Blizzard, etc). We want alternatives and there a millions of game players out there who will THROW THEIR MONEY at smaller developers who can pull off an engaging and rewarding title. My point I am trying to make here is that people bash a game like this because they are 'hurt'. They are hurt by rooting (maybe not externally but internally) for these developers and hoping they they pull of something wonderful and amazing, and when they don't - it's sad and it's painful... I'm not sure that Vsoh will be able to pull off a wonderful and amazing title for the near term. DANG IT!!! It just seems like it's the same old stuff and I can get most of this from EQ2 already... I feel bad about this. We really wanted something outstanding and I just don't think it's there. And I really don't want to bash the developers and this game at all. I really, really wanted it to succeed (and still do)... |

Another first impression from DuraheLL

And I totally agree...The whole instanced box thing just broke it up for me... ...and I think I'm going to go out and give Vanguard a try based upon your input as well. Heck - I REALLY WANTED to like EQ2. Again, I didn't hate it but it just didn't draw me in for the exact reason you mentioned above. Thx bro! |

How to turn Auto Assault into a sleeper hit MMORPG...A Business Plan
Suggestions « Auto Assault 1/28/07 12:02:55 PM
First of all, this game is just too good to let go. The development team has done a phenomenal job. And quite frankly this is a FUN game. It's very well done. However, given all of what Auto Assault has going for it, I believe a few adjustments to the game's deployment and business model will turn this into a money making and successful game franchise. #1) Lose the monthly subscription and adopt a Guild Wars style revenue plan. I think the basic problem with the subscription plan is that there are just too many other options out there that warrant a $15.00/mo committment. I don't think that Auto Assualt can glean enough of this market in order to make it viable. This is not because Auto Assault is a bad game, not by any means. I think that stylistically, not enough players identify with a car/avatar type of game in order to pay the $15.00/mo. They will gravitate to a more stricly based avatar centric game for their $15.00/month. The only other game I've seen that can blow out this model is EVE. #2) Don't flirt with the $49.99 or $39.99 expansion pack price point. Release your expansions at the $24.99 price point (or if you can go lower $19.99). Why do I say this? It's because Auto Assault is the perfect choice for a #2 MMO. It provides adrenaline, fun, and diversion. It also borders on a twitch based game. It's the perfect alternative for your main MMORPG when it gets boring and repetetive. Also, people will EASILY drop $24.99 on an expansion. It's a no-brainer. Why? Because it's a bargain right off the shelf. I myself didn't pick up Auto Assault until it was $9.99 on the shelves. Believe me, Auto Assault provides more value than $9.99. It's the monthly subscription plan for this game that is detering people. For me right now, I will probably play some vehicles up to level 80 and then drop the monthly subscription and move on. But if you adopted the Guild Wars model, i would most CERTAINLY buy expansions continuously (as long as they were provided). It's just that much fun and I would want to keep it indefinitely as my #2 MMO. So in short... #1) Lose the monthly subscription = success!!!!!!! Good luck and I will certainly be in game until I have one or two 80's under my belt! This is a GREAT GAME! Keep it up!!!!
