46 - why would you ever stop unless you just can't play anymore or you no longer find it enjoyable. A couple bucks a month (i.e. $15.00) plus internet service... ...a better entertainment value than cable even... |

Might as well chime in too... I'm sticking with War for a couple of 40 toons. The overall speed of the game including leveling and actual combat works for me. I simply have fun - and that's really all I'm looking for. |

...yes - I'm just starting out as well. It's slow, slow, slow - but once you let the pace of things just be as it is - it's kinda fun. I would recommend getting the XBOX Controller Chat package for this game. I did it and I don't regret it. It basically comes with a headset (which you don't need for the game) and the qwerty keyboard that plugs into the controller. It really helps in the game, and it's a nice little piece of hardware to have regardless. It's got a nice backlit screen and can be useful for other games on the XBOX in the future. I have yet to group up - only a level 6. But hopefully with the keyboard and maybe getting to around level 10 there will be more grouping activity. When I search for party members, there seems to be a few of them around all of the time - mostly in the low teens (level) and above...so when the time comes I think there will be people to group with...

Ack - XBOX controller question...(noob)
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 2/28/08 11:18:29 AM
Hiya, ...for the life of me I can't find out how to make my character sit down using the XBOX controller. Once I did it by accident, but I can't figure out how to do it again. I've poured through every screen on the interface and I can't find the 'sit' command... ...can someone clue a noob in (me) on how to do this? Thanks a lot!!!! |

...again, my hat's off to the TR design team. I just got done with my first foray into the Divide and just searching for the first 3 logos in that area is spectacular (to say the least)! Even though the logos are marked on the map it is still a really nice challenge to find them. And along the way you come across just some excellent and refreshing map design elements that are just plain fun, and very well done. I got lost searching for the 'Friend' logos and ended up on some cliff walls. My character ended up going upwards along the side of a cliff bank and I stumbled across a stellar screen shot of a sort of redish planet in the sky. An absolute delightful surprise to say the least. Anyway - thanks a bunch! Having a blast! |

Dang - good job guys... ...sure pretty much the standard fare elements as far as MMO's go; crafting, leveling, etc. MMOs are built on these mechanics. If you're playing an MMO, these are the base building blocks of this particular style of computer game. Complaining about these elements in any MMO is like complaining that all the new cars have steering wheels. "...when will a car come out with something besides a steering wheel!!???? meh... I'm going back to driving my Pinto..." ...of course if a new MMO comes out and it doesn't have any of these elements, then there will be a set of people who complain about this as well. Given the genre and mechanics we have to work with in this day and age, with regards to MMO's; I say great job TR team -- dang... Really nice instances with thought and great design elements behind them. They remind me already of some of the great WoW instances and I've only been in the lower level ones in TR so far. Excellent terrain designs with creative ways of dividing up territory. You actually have to explore around to get to know the map and how to get to different points. Nice ways of integrating the instances with the map and overall map navigation. I'm not sure we're ever going to see something truly 'revolutionary' in the MMO genre for awhile yet. Maybe we will, I'm not sure. As far as TR goes, I'm pleasantly surprised and having fun and I can see and feel the tremendous amount of work that went in to this title. You guys should be proud. You've just earned my $50.00 and my monthly fee for as long as I'm having fun! Thanks again and Kudos! |

Jumpgate: Evolution: Interview With Hermann Peterscheck

I hope NetDevil really does well with this. Shutting down AA by NCSoft is a shame and I hope developers like NetDevil can start to publish/host their own games. C'mon NCSoft - gimme a break - you're shutting down AA and hosting Dungeon Runners??? Bah.... Anyway kudos to NetDevil - and good luck. I'm an EvE player but if JG delivers I'm hoping on board. Please make this release Vista compatible!!!!! |

This is a really good response to this post, and exactly what I've (personally) been doing for the last couple of months. The depth of which you can approach the various ship types, skills, and fittings is an entire game unto itself. For example it will probably take me another month or so of training to get to fly a Battleship. I could certainly go that direction, but I really want to train up my industry and mining skills so I can fly the next level of mining ship. So there is a tradeoff and decisions to be made. What this means is I'm stuck in a BattleCruiser class ship, flying in 0.0 space (where my corp is located), and trying to be effective. Through experience I've found that there is no limit to what you can do to be effective in this situation, if you are willing to play a mmorpg for what it is, a social game to play with other people. For instance I can fit up for damage assistance, or remote repairing (did someone say 'healer'), or a webber, or capacity drainer/supplier, or salvager, or loot runner, or any other of a number of different support roles. This is of course if you go out hunting, or ratting with a partner. As far as going solo with a BattleCruiser in 0.0 space, no I can't bring down a rat worth 900,000 isk - but I can bring down one worth 300,000 isk, and only after a month of tweaking, studying what was available for the BattleCruiser, was I able to do this. When I first tried I'd have to run away immediately. But after researching all of the different mods, fittings, and skills that were possible; you can refine even the most modest of ships into effective vessels for their particular situation. Of course you have to enjoy this kind of stuff, and you have to be patient, and you have to just not want everything right away. If you get the biggest ships rights away - yawn.....(and also with the skill system the way it is it would take you awhile to properly equip them). Again - great post Vantras - there is an incredible amount of gameplay into just going deeper, and deeper into what's already available to you. And while you're doing that - you're earning isk for the next level of ship or skill or whatever, which provides a whole other realm of depth, when you reach that point... |

Hi, I've been venturing out into .4 space lately to try my hand at salvaging some higher level rats. I've been doing okay. I've had my share of success and my share of getting my spaceship blown to bits... ...my question is - what is the best way to counter getting warp scrambled? Is it by fitting warp stabilizers? If so - should you fit more than one on a ship? Is this helpful? or should you just train up the warp drive operation skill in addition to fitting warp stablizers? For right now I just simply want to bail if I get attacked out there. I've tried to fight once or twice but I just don't have what it takes right now to fight back. I just want to bail like a sissy and keep my loot (if i can)... Thanks in advance! |

Yes it is fun. Thanks for the post. I usually have 2-3 accounts going in other games and I ALWAYS maintain my AA account. Why? When boredom sets in you can just go out and blow stuff up. How cool is that? And you're gaining XP and farming at the same time! No long drawn out - blah blah blah - just pure and simple fun.

Crap...seriously? I fly Amarr ships just because I thought they were cool looking...(lol) Do they really suck (long-term)? Should I be training to fly another class of ship? |

So? where does crafting REALISTICALLY start in this game?

But it's a good start and I'm learning the ropes and how the whole rythm of research, manufacturing, trade, and selling goes. I've never played primarily a crafter - but in this game it's fun. There are so many nuances to the economy. Just a single jump into another region can literally double your profits. And this just still in high sec space. Also some of the newbie raw ores sell surprising well and and the variations you can put on your sell orders really makes a difference. ...could actually just sit back and manufacture /sell for a long-time and have a great time at it! |
