If you are not a beta tester, you wont understand. The testers are loving the game, its more than just a world. However, many see these rabid haters who have no clue what they are talking about via forums. Its not hard to say "delay the game until we test all the features and squash the bugs." Essentially OP, you are turning a neutral poll into a means to be negative. This is a big undertaking by a small company, this is their first mmorpg. Did you know team fortress 2 was in development since 1998? Prey took over 10 years to develop? Games like WoW were in production long before it was announced. Just saying you cannot judge a game by how long it takes to ship what they feel is a finished product. Most mainstream games with bigger budgets and bigger teams take anywhere from 4-6 years to develop a mmorpg. The bigger and more complicated the game, the more it cost, the more time is needed. Games are better when they are delayed, rather than released early, which happens way too often with these big publishers.

We can all agree it wasnt very smart of Aventurine to give a release date to begin with, like Blizzard they should keep it in TBA status. The haters calling it vaporware didnt help, and probably influenced Aventurine to give a release date when they shouldnt have. Either way, they have learned not to bother with the average gamer, because as many of you have shown them, you are not reasonable. People over the internet are just retards at times.

Anyways, just dont judge the game till its released. Dont judge it because of its development time, that doesnt matter, especially when you look at the facts. Dont judge it because a developer is trying to do PR and did a bad job at it. Judge the game as a game for a game when its released.

This.

If anyone has a spare buddy key I'd really love to have one. Also, I'm new to the game I'd love it if someone could, so to speak, show me the ropes. I really like PVP and I really liked DAoC back in the day so I'm sure I'd love this if I could get in with a bunch of friendly folks.

Thanks

If you're familiar with EVE's bounty system then you know exactly what I'm talking about. In EVE, if a character has a low enough security raiting (a red in UO, basically) then other players can place a bounty on their head. When another person looks at said criminal's photograph they'll see the word "WANTED" scrawled across it along with the amount payable to the first person to lob off his virtual head (or jettison him into space, as it were).

Here is the official forum's thread about this topic

Now. Do you guys think that DFO could have a bounty system like EVE's?

As the title said, I was curious how many people would turn to the secondary market to resolve any cash flow difficulties caused by a full loot system.
And we know Aventurine doesn't have the resources to stop the farmers. (and neither do the players, but they don't realize it yet)

Not a smart, thought out question.

You buy gold. +
You buy shiny crafted or dropped object. +
You get Pked. +
You lose shiny crafted or dropped object. +
-----------------------------------------
= You gave the guy who just killed you your money.

This sound sane to you? Please think before starting posts.

  *snip*

Ultima Online, the pioneer of open PVP and full loot still has many RMT/Gold websites dedicated to it.

UO: 2 years

DAoC: 1 year

WoW: 3+ years

Not everyone's first MMO was WoW. I'm dying for Darkfall to come out.

Well for starters you can have a clone that saves your skill points. If you die you resurrect at the station where you've stored your clone. You lose everything on your ship as well as your implants. However, if you have insurance for your ship it will mitigate your loss.

For me, EVE is all about the planning and general geekery like numbers and averages and stuff.

Also, I couldn't play EVE if it weren't for EVEMon. I'd get quickly overwhelmed with managing my 8 characters. Even with only one character it certainly increases the fun factor by 10.

I'd play LOTRO if it weren't for the goofy character animations when they run.

Show me $250 in parts that can match the 360. These vs things never work because hey never put up a P in the same price range as the 360.

Show me you being able to do 1/100 of the things you can do on a PC on a 360 or ps3. People don't include the costs because when you buy a console, you buy something to play games. When you buy a PC, you buy something to play games, check email, surf the web, do programming, download music/movies/tv shows/files, watch movies, burn music/movies/tv shows, write papers, create slideshows, create spreadsheats, I could go on and on. You don't compare the prices because you are looking at nearly everything a console does compared to a fraction of what the PC is used for.

As for those screenshots, I think the PC wins hands down, followed(to my surprise) by the 360. If I were to buy a console, I would personally buy a 360 simply because I refuse to buy anything from sony. But I'm not going to buy a console, I can play my sister's Wii if I want to, and I would rather spend $200+ on a new graphics card than a new console(I ENJOY tinkering, building, and upgrading my system).

For $500 I could get both a console and a PC that does all that expect play games. Maybe not burn things but I think thats becoming less common with people moving to portable players.

Also I buy a console because I know it will get the big name games I want and I know Ill be able to play them. Companies are starting to hold back on the PC because they can sell so many more copies on consoles. Now I do enjoy working with my computer but I don't hae the cash to do it often. I make a one tim epayment for a console and don't have to worry about weather or not it can handle Mass Effect 2 or Halo 4.

The price difference between a DVD reader and DVD writer is getting really small lately. According to Newegg you're looking at about $25 for a DVD burner and about $17 for a DVD player.

So where is Original Eggplant or whatever he is called.. come tell us all how they created this feature complete mmo with such a small team? A huge open world, twitchy combat mechanics? You can make kingdoms and more in depth ressources and crafting than anyone else?

Can they even just create that many skills and test them in this time and create all the spell effects?

What happened with the whole pirating business?

Where are the proof???

Enlighten us!

My guess the reason they aren't/won't do preorders is because those are normally done for games that are sold in boxes. I'm willing to bet there will never be a Darkfall box.

Odd.. I never had problems finding groups in mmos before the global chat and LFG systems carebearized them. Everyone wants everythign served to them on a silver platter... this game isnt a silver platter serving game

Couldn't agree more.  take for example UO.  Enough said

Except that UO didn't have "groups".

Even THAT is a carebear concept but I don't hear people bitching about that.

It's almost as bad as buying station cash from SOE and when you do not recieve it then you're out of luck...they wouldn't do that...oh wait yes the do! (read the fine print when buying station cash, it's a scam lol)

Seriously?

Well, I wouldn't call it an update exactly and I don't think it's really meant to be one. It's a sign of life together with season's greetings form Tasos, not more and not less (which is good enough for me actually, as I don't expect Aventurine to put up any real update for Christmas really).

There sure is a lack of information and I can only hope more will come soon enough, the release date coming closer. However, I don't see how this would affect me as one of those awaiting the game patiently and hoping for it to turn out to be some refreshing addition to the genre.
There really isn't anything I could loose; as a customer I can only win a good game if everything works out. If not, so what? Who will keep me from moving on to what else might surface in that case?

By the way, Agricola1, it's refresing to see there are real sceptics around (as opposed to mindless doomsayers I mean). Your posts are making perfect sense and are pleasure to read.

Thanks, I kind of got bored from chanting "Darkfail ROFLMFAO!". Besides I realized I don't really want it to fail, since everyother MMORPG is a steaming pile of PvE grind anyway. I'd just appreciate it if Aventurine got thier shit together and started being honest about the situatuion of Darkfall. Some claim they are and just decide to refrain from giving information until neccesary. I feel that with thier past record of setting dates, missing them and not saying anything about it,  the onus is on Aventurine to prove to me that this is the real thing and not just another circus.

I'm really just waiting for SGW (prefer sci-fi), but if Darkfall was to be released as promised it might set MMORPGs back on the right track. The ideas of player housing and PvP with consequences, also real live events like having an invasion or story arcs each month need to be re-introduced to MMORPGs. Just having a shitty PvE grind and leaving it at that with boring non consequence PvP as an after thought has gone on too long in my opinion. I played MMOs where you picked a side and had something to fight for, now you pick the OP class, so that you have something to grind for!

The reason they're so mysterious is obvious to me. It's also obvious to you except you're not going to say it because YOU, Mr. Goa'uld speaker, are afraid to get flamed.

  1. They've got themselves running around in circles going apeshit trying to get this game released on time, this time.
  2. They're all under paid (some, like the CEO, probably draw NO salary) guys who decided it would be pretty effing cool to make a game like DF. Had they ever done it before? Nope. In short, they lack experience and because of that they're making up most of this stuff as they go along. No worries though, this is how most of 'em do it. I work for the CEO of a medium sized software company myself and you'd be surprised the kind of shit he decides on a whim.

That's it.

I'm not, neccessarily, insulting Adventurine I'm simply stating the obvious. I love the concept of Darkfall and I've already taken the 22nd and 23rd off work, I just hope i don't have to reschedule.

I think Darkfall is going to end up in the same space (no pun!) as EVE.

In EVE you don't min-max so much as you just get the skills you need for what you want to accomplish. It's obvious what is needed. You wanna kill people with Drones? Get drone skills. You wanna do some mining? Get some mining skills.

Right now it's not hard because there's hardly anyone outside the "Aventurine circle of trust" playing Beta! Besides how would they prosecute a Chinese player? All they could do is find out who it was and ban thier IP, which let's face it is a minor deterent at best! For a proper closed Beta it would be too difficult to pinpoint who breaks an NDA if they just black out certain stuff in screenshots/videos, but this isn't a proper closed Beta in my opinion.

umm actully the nda ha s a bit mroe than just an ip ban it doesnt spicify it tho aventurine isnt messing with leakers wtf the point of having an nda if they dont enforce it?

thers is truly around 500-700 testers and this increases daily

and no its not like a normal closed beta

Much like American copyrights, they're only as strong as the legal team the backing company can afford.

Adventurine would have to spent a TON of money to enforce an NDA overseas.

There's another little contract kinda like an NDA called a EULA (end user license agreement). We all agreed to the Microsoft EULA (unless we're using something else).

The Russian courts threw out a case that tried to enforce RAMPANT software piracy in Russian schools. Microsoft spent lots of money to fight it. In the end they got nothing.

EULA's aren't enforceable. NDA's aren't enforceable. Copyrights and Trademarks are barely enforceable.

It doesn't matter if anyone sifgned something or just CLICKED A BUTTON SAYING "AGREE" ON IT.

It's  the same damn thing and CANNOT BE ENFORCED.

you wanna bet

Yes I do.

Give me the Aventurine NDA to sign. I will sign it and release as much info and videos as I can everywhere I want and there would not be a damn thing they could do to me because for 1 they would never know it's me..

and two... they wouldn't waste their time or money on trying to enforce an NDA from a video game..

I've always thought the same thing.

Maybe I'm a criminal at heart or maybe I like a little chaos with my morning bagel?

Right now Im playing EVE Online and trying to finish up Fallout 3 on the first time thru still pretty much explored the entire map except the inner DC area done a lot of quests, very enjoyable, have the saint karma also, and just got done for the night stopped at escaping from Raven Rock where I just offed the Enclave President Eden (Computer AI) and blew up the installation, its a shame noone could make a MMO like this with group elements and the such and lot more areas to explore is what makes MMOs fun to begin with and this game has a lot to explore.

Dude.. I really hope you didn't just spoil Fallout 3 because that would be really really lame.
