Imagine a MMO game without hitpoints
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/25/07 2:33:50 PM
I really don't think that would work in an MMO.
MMOs are about strategy and tactics... MMO lovers wouldn't be too fond of insta-death where it's all about reflexes. FPS players wouldn't enjoy an MMO because you can't just jump straight into the action.. It's a bit of a middle ground that would have such a niche group of players that no big game producer would make it. It would be up to the non-profit game designers... and they don't always implement ideas in the best ways possible :-P |

What MMORPG makes YOU feel unique?

I don't see how people could even compare CoX to SWG in terms of how unique you feel.
Just so you know, I'm playing CoV at the moment, so this isn't a biased view :-P On CoX, yes, you can look very unique - appearance-wise, more unique than any other game at the moment. However, you are locked into one archetype (class). While you can make your power selections and slots slightly different from other people.. you are still essentially a Scrapper or Defender or Mastermind or what ever. On Star Wars Galaxies, you had SO much freedom. You could be unique in appearance, clothes. You could have a unique house etc. On top of that, unlike CoX, you could be extremely unique skill-wise also. You could be a bounty hunter, tailor, marksman and politician if you wanted. Or a Swordsman and Doctor. Or a Doctor and Combat Medic. The skill combinations were absolutely endless. CoX has subtle skill differences. SWG had MASSIVE skill differences. I'm still searching for a game as unique as SWG. My eye is on Darkfall at the moment, but I have a feeling I'll be disappointed like I was with Roma Victor :-( |

I played Star Wars Galaxies for a long time (Well a long time for me). About a year and a half I think it was. It was mainly my guild and the community that kept me there. In hind sight, it was never an amazing game, there was little to no structure in the gameplay. That made people very creative though.
I used to play FPS games a lot. I played Half-life mods for 2 or 3 years (not Counter-Strike! I played Guild wars for about 3 months. I played WoW for about 3 months. I see a pattern here! I'm now on to City of Villains, I've been playing a month so far. And unlike WoW, the fun starts instantly. I only found WoW truely fun after level 60. Let's see if I can break the 3 month mark! The community on CoX seems A LOT better than on Guild wars or WoW, so it's a good sign. |
