I've always wondered...

Does it give you that rollercoaster-stomach feeling the entire way down? The feeling in your gut when you drop down really fast on a rollercoaster? I don't know if I could take that, hehe.

No it doesn't actually, you get it initially...I got it as we jumped and rolled over on our back and then finally stabalized...but once you hit terminal velocity...about 135 mph the resistence is constant and your body (well mine and my friends who jumped) acts accordingly and calms down.  My wife gets that sensation easily, even in the car going over a hill real quick, but she had about the same experience I did.  It is a complete adrenline rush and all you keep thinking about is "This is so F#$king awesome!!"

Terminal Velocity is 120mph

Worst movie of the year by far. Had to take the kids but what a stupid movie. The movie doesn't even represent the chipmunks from the cartoon series in the 80's.

What is worse is 20seconds of hearing them speak makes you want to shoot the creator of the sound. Why didn't they use the more friendlier sounding cartoon voices. It was the most annoying movie I had ever seen. Also they are tiny and look nothing like what they should be, WTF where they thinking.

I think Hollywood has nothing new to make so they use everything old and then end up remaking it worse. At least Transformers came out right and the voices where 100% identical to the old cartoon series.

None, the whole MMO market is sucking bad. Same stuff over and over with to many disapointing turns of events. In 08 nothing will change. AOC to WAR is nothing special, if they truely offered a new fantasy that doesn't ask you to kill baby pigs to adult pigs and so on then maybe I would look forward to something on that list. But trying it and not liking what I see is like going back to Vanguard beta and release. What they promise and what they deliver are two separate things. What wont change is how DEVS play the I got the better looking game card. Where graphics and small new ideas are played so much to try and convert people to that game.

I think the only one on the list that would be revolutionary would be darkfall but the direction that game is going and how it is funded make it a little slow and unpopular because of that.

Does it matter, really?

If that list has anything to say about performance we can gather that only a select few performed better because they had talent and better hand eye coordination. I know players who spring training here that juiced and suck horribly at the game compared to others.

What I am saying is I don't think that any player juicing has an increased edge over the guy who doesn't. There are several editorials on this subject and scientifically suggestive of it's findings that steroids do not make a player better at baseball, they do not enhance a talent that isn't already there. Steroids are to help metabolic function and increase strength. Look at the older players who are skinny and have barely any muscle and they lead in the record books for years. Mantle is one of them and Babe Ruth was a fat pig when he played.

It takes talent and lots of years of muscle memory and control to play like these guys who are the best, like Bonds. Strength in baseball is not something that will make you hit a ball better with hand eye coordination or have accurate throwing. It's like golf, when you hit the ball to hard you have poor shots, but tempo and rhythm you hit nice longer shots.

Looks good. Only thing I would suggest is don't try it until your monitor warranty runs out. The keyboard is cheap go ahead.

Such BS PR. I bet this boy was paid to say this, if not how stupid of a story. Can you imagine this young boy talking to a reporter then saying I learned how to taunt from WOW that got it away from my sister then I feigned death.

Give me a break.

There is significant cause to remove it from the development list and put it on the .. uh ... er ... In court list..

The articles stipulates it is the fans who are losers. But somehow I feel more bad for Koehnke who have been defrauded for many millions of $.

If PE released GoH and wrapped up development maybe at least part of what was invested would have come back. And that would have been the right thing to do.

On the positive note maybe GoH rights will now go to Koehnke and they can sell it off to someone who will make a good game of it. After all it did have potential, so with a little investment maybe...

That is a valid point, however; if the game was released and people played it then you realize your playing a game that is hanging by a thread over this.

What people fail to realize is that what if all of a sudden a year after launch or sooner the game tanks because of this. I would be very skeptical or weary to put time into a game that holds so much negativity over it's head. Not to mention the company runing it isn't exactly a positive reinforcement.

Grew older.........................................................older................................and..............................................older!!!

*crickets* are anything you ever hear from this game anymore. No updates forever and no definite sign that it will come out. I use to have hope for this game until recently.

1. As far as we know yes.

2. No it will have a fee.

3. I think all can get you a new ship, although I haven't yet done a quest to get a ship but it could be there. Stealing you mean PVP to take one, same thing I guess.

4. Yes, not friendly though.

5. Dungeons in a pirate themed game? No but there are instances for PVP battles for nation port control 25 vs 25. Raids are questionable if you think taking all your side to take a port down is a Raid?

6. Yes, mainly historical items and ship parts. Weapons, clothes, making rum and parts for buildings. A ton of crafted items can be made and forged.

7. Yes but not every port is PVP. You can make a living and have fun just by crafting and growing.

8. Hard to compare the size to anything else because I haven't been all over the game world to know this question.

9. Yes

10. Hmm not sure but I would say no. But that doesn't mean you can't find special items from quests or player made that have PLUS to skill factors. It is not a gear dependent game like WOW-EQ2 etc. etc.

Unfortunately this is just one of the few things POTBS will need to fix to add more immersion to the game. The game is very good and I like it. There are many pirate type games out and some you might of never heard of that are an MMO.

I also complained about the waves and open sea being to calm way back. If they get a random wave generator effect in to make it more realistic and with weather later on in the future it will make us who play it very happy.

Get real man this wasnt the royal friggin navy. It was pirates.

Back then your ship was your life saver. Every ship had been cleaned and waxed, caulked with tar or substances to keep them water tight and many other things. It was a matter of life or death on the open seas if your ship was in mishappen shape because rott can set in and weaken a ship quickly.

A few years ago I watched a thing on this on History channel. These ships from these times where taken care of greatly like a nascar team taking care of one of it's cars. They showed how they would clean and keep the ships in perfect condition. Pirate ships of the time never left a ship get out of shape because it made for easy targeting when your trying to fool people on the open sea you could be spotted as a pirate pretty easily if you ran around in a ship that was in dismay.

I think if you look at some ships that survived that are over 130yrs old they are in perfect condition still with the same maintenance that was used back then to keep them going and looking good. I would never doubt that captains back then made cleaning and upkeep of a ship top priority while on the open sea. What else was there to do?

Hollywood has made many pictures detailing the opposite of what history has told us. So for some here I take it your looking at the movies and how a ship looking like trash must be the correct historical representation of what it was like back then.

1. GFX / Art Direction

First and foremost, the engine used by PotBS looks 3 years old for a game thats going to be released in 2008. Granted, some ships have high poly counts, but that is all wasted by horrid textures, which leads to the games art direction, or lack there of. For a game that instances everything, they certainly could afford to use an engine that pushes gfx more.

On shore, PotBS is split between the art direction of the styled avatars and the uninspired and all too repetitive buildings. Neither are done very well at this point with both and look quite rough. The ships are pristine looking models that have just come out of drydock. I would like to see ships with weathering, some character, not some wooden model that looks like it's never touched water.

2. Advancement system

FLS could have done so much more with advancement with PotBS. They took something unique and applied the standard formula to it while they could have done so much more. Granted, the standard mmo formula that WoW has so efficiently done to great effect is attractive purely as it draws subs, but nowdays it takes more than doing a 'me too' for new mmo's. Instead, PotBS has a bastardized advancement system that resembles Lineage 2's where levels 1-49 are just a time sink to get to 50 where the real fun begins.

PotBS is pretty much just a bad attempt at making WoW w/ pirates in the carribbean.

3. PVP

It just sucks, if there was any hope of immersion of actual age of sail warfare it is lost here. While port battles 'can' be fun, what must be done leading up to them is a joke.

Overall PotBS is a mmo that strides too much to be appealing to all while in an attempt to do so comes out as being shallow and with no strong features that make it stand out... other than of course the entire theme. PotBS could have, and perhaps could still be, so much more. I will stick to EVE.

First of all POTBS was intended to be a MMO without Avatars and they put them in like last year or so. The games been in development for 5yrs? It also has excellent graphics but the default is low, so you must raise the settings to max to see the big difference and it looks very nice.

I don't think you get the concept of this game and direction. Your gripes are meaningless because they are all wrong and assumptions. You must not of played the game that much in open beta to fully comment on how the game is. POTBS is a new genre of MMO that is Pirates and Ships. I don't get why your comparing it to anything else.

PhysX doesn't do anything for Crysis. Crysis uses its own proprietary physics engine that the PhysX cards do not accelerate.

Yeah duh I know that, but if you use the method on the net to get it to work with crysis it only added 3fps in a review I seen. Remember when it was a big deal when this was released then the reviews all showed the benchmarks to be lower FPS then without it. I think it is all garbage and any game built around it using it's own internal physix is a better option like you said internally controlled from the game engine.

Nice that you want to delve into game development. But so do hundreds of thousands of other young people who will go to college to get degrees in computer science and gaming and never get a foot in the door to a large game company. It takes more then 2yrs to fully learn C++ or visual, any other programs related also. It wont be worth anyone's time to teach you this or for them to show you. It can't be done and then they had to pay to go to school to learn it, what makes you think they would teach you for free.

Your best bet is to try and get a qualification or project with your name on it if you have any good experience.

I had to double take at the date this thread was posted because I thought it was from 2005 or early 06. Because AMD has not had the gaming edge for a long while now. Intel has the fastest and lowest power consuming CPU's. Clock for clock a Intel core 2 duo will beat a dual core AMD cpu by 30% in benchmarks, some more then that.

Doesn't look good for AMD again because Phenom and Barcelona are total garbage vs what Intel has. Every benchmark is like watching what AMD 64 did to Intels P4 chips before Conroe came out. AMD use to be crown in gaming but I think Intel will hold it for another 3yrs or more. Competition drives each of these companies to make faster better chips. If AMD would of died tomorrow then Intel can keep it's current lineup for another 5yrs without worrying about people needing faster chips.

Hah, then everyones comments would be for nothing and the forums is mainly a place to discuss threads. Also I think it would mess up their system for rankings.

The quality of the PS3 will be the same for both. HDMI doesn't make the picture necessarily better, it is offering you the sound plus video through 1 cable. Which is cool because you can do away with the AV cables.

HDMI video quality is the same for a $20 HDMI cable thats 6 feet long vs a $90 6 feet long cable. The bandwidth is the same in both up to I think 8 feet if I remember right. When someone is telling you to get the most expensive HDMI cable they are wrong. If a guy is trying to sell you on the idea that the picture quality will be better going to the $100+ HDMI vs the cheap $20 one he is very mistaken.

HDMI quality only slightly downgrades after about 10feet. If your using a HDMI cable that is over like 10feet then going the bigger thicker cable makes sense and thats when you pay more, however; I know many 15feet HDMI cable reviews that say otherwise. To me if I'm going 15feet I would go for the thicker gauge HDMI cable and not just by cost. Rarely people will need since a blueray or HD-DVD player is near the HDTV and most 6 foot cables work.

Your component out 3 prong cables will have the same quality as your HDMI cable if you decide to do that under 8feet long, but you can bring sound + video to the HDTV with 1 cable using the HDMI. I would use HDMI if I was you just to get rid of the AV cables. Also DVI is the same as HDMI but without the audio signal going through it.

Ohh BTW gold plated HDMI offer no extra quality over the regular HDMI cables.
