Is this really your first lesson on the manipulation of advertising?

I know you may find this amazing, but scratching the surface of any ad for any product and you will find a dark soul beneath it.

Should it be that way? No.

Is it that way? Yes.

Buyer beware.

Never put faith in advertising.

And stop being shocked that they hired advertisers who would use words which would help boost sales.

@OP: What led you to believe that an Elder Scrolls game would not be story driven? Kind of like picking up a Madden game and expecting it to be baseball, isn't it?

While I can't deny the irony......

on closer inspection it is CASH:San Quentin - indicating to me it is a Johnny Cash poster from his performance at the prison.

I wouldn't exactly call the man-in-black a poster child for capitalism - so all is forgiven, in my book. ;)

[mod edit]

Ahhh....I think I've got it.

1. Mercilessly beat your eMachine with a sledge hammer.

2. Buy any other brand of computer.

Problem solved.

Honest review - not fanbois

Convenient.

Anyone who likes the game looks to be a fanbois and dishonest.

I'm glad you went into this objectively.

....as said by one who needlessly clutters up the forums with a useless snark attack.

I plan on buying it, playing it for three months, getting bored and moving on to the next game like I have for the last 10 years. I Hopefully it will surprise me though.

lol...I can't take this review seriously.

A few things I noticed reading your review.  You call the Klingon ships warbirds, the Romulan birds of prey.  You seem to imply a need to pay to experience legacy of romulus.  you say you utilized auto fire but "still have to keep one hand on the keyboard"  which is what 9 out of 10 pc video games have you do.

You didn't get to level 50, you didn't play the current content it seems, probably flew a larger ship since you complain about the "speed of space combat", and don't even acknowledge the dilithium exchange (you can sell dil for zen or zen for dil....making it so no real world cash is needed...just time and effort).

In my Romulan "bird of prey" (warbird by most accounts) I can fly circles around cruisers but am less armored.  Space combat is hardly "slow".

You played for one hour a day for a week?  I see there have been edits and am not seeing this anymore.  You played it for seven hours?  And then felt capable of giving an informed review?

I am not trying to be mean, but I don't see how that is possible without more in game experience.

I actually don't disagree with your 7.4 out of 10 very much at all, negligible differences between our opinions in that regard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzyd91NFx-Y

I dunno, to me this is a matter of the way the world should be and the way the world is.....

We should be able to get a finished polished product for the money we spend.

- Yet -

For the 15 years I've played mmo's, the smooth polished game upon release has been the exception rather than the rule, and even with the most polished of them, there were still start up blues.

So I've learned that's the way the world is.

Therefore, when I buy an mmo I feel I have two choices:

- Buy the product warts and all, go in knowing it I will suffer launch time blues

- or -

- Wait a few months and give the game time to polish up (after assuring it moved in the correct direction)

Because that's the way the world is.

It shouldn't be that way, but it is.

So, therefore, at the end of the day, my tagline holds true; be an informed consumer,  because the world is different than the way it should be. Advertisers are hired to sell a product - therefore it is up to the buyer to be ware.

There is a clear difference, but don't let those rose colored glasses make you believe it was somehow all sunshine.

Trust me I don't have rose colored glasses on for EQ, hated it and all it's themepark trappings. I was trying to show that getting a 72-man (when the encounter is attuned for 54) zerg party together is not the same as getting a 40-man instanced, lockout timed, highly tuned (for exactly 40) raid party together these days. That's like saying world boss encounters are the same as instance raid boss encounters. That's all.

Understood, sorry for my confused exuberance.

As it concern numbers, i never said it will be like WoW or even SWTOR and imo it doesnt needs to be so HUGE in order to be a success.

Yes it doesn't need a huge player base to be a success in general. Who knows which numbers would please Carbine.. maybe 250k.. maybe 500k subscribers? But for 40-man raids there is a certain need of a potent player base. It's hard to coordinate 40 people with jobs or different schedules (maybe even different time zones) for a several hours raid tour. It's always easier the more players there are.

Explain how EQ ran 72man + raids with a 500k Population then?

You do know in EQ there were:

No lockouts - no they had spawn timers of 2 hour, 6 hour, 8 hour, even up to 1 month spawn times. They also had flagging - which essentially was a lockout - "We have 72 players geared and ready to go, but the 4 healers are not flagged, so we won't be doing the raid but spending the 4 to 8 hour block flagging our healers - if the spawns aren't camped by another guild"; we'll get to it next week, if we are successful in flagging our healers, if we are successful at being the first to get to the raid and/or it is our guilds time on the monthly rotation and if that one uber guild who doesn't participate in the calender doesn't gank our spot. It is complete self-delusion to imply you could always walk in to a dungeon and do what you wanted to in EQ.

You're right though what EQ had was far worse than the lockouts we have today.

No timers - in reference to what? The mobs were and I believe still are on spawn timers.

No script for scale - not sure what you mean by this exactly so I won't comment

No limit on players (2-72man groups) - except that second third and fourth group got no xp and if you were in a supplementary group, you could pretty much guarantee that the loot was going to MT, MH and Main CC before anyone else.

No instance - until LDON in 2003 - which means 4 years of no instances, and 11 years of instances.

Just saying, there is a clear difference between a zerg party (EQ) and a structured raid (post-EQ).

There is a clear difference, but don't let those rose colored glasses make you believe it was somehow all sunshine.

With agonizing, mind-numbing difficulty filled with hours of downtime.

Not scared?

This isn't SWTOR.

You got that right, in SWTOR Yoda hasn't even been born.

But the force is created by life, makes it grow, its energy surrounds us and binds us....you must feel the force around you, between you, me, the tree the rock, everywhere - even between the land and Wildstar....

- or something like that.

Taco Bell screwed me out of a burrito and Mexico apparently can't do anything to help.
Not sure I'd say it is satire, more like 'tongue-in-cheek'.

Interesting. Considering it is being made by Russian dev team and American company Obsidian Entertainmnent.

TECHNICALLY Russia is in Asia.

Well....TECHNICALLY everything west of the Ural mtns is Europe, but most of Russia is in Asia - and recently they've just acquired a little more of Asia.

"Can we stop claiming 12 m WoW subs can't be wrong?"

I have never made that claim,  and it seems fairly obvious from your post that you haven't made that claim, so what's this 'we' business?

That aside,  I believe this thread will become a viral thread across the realm, and I believe 100% those making this claim will both see this thread, feel rightly shamed, and stop.

Is that the outcome you were hoping for? Because, bravo, I think you've solved the problem for good.

Either that or you won't sway one single person with this thread.

How to make MMORPGs even more like SP games.....

1. Eliminate the online capabilities.

hmmm ... many SP games have online capabilities. In fact, D3 requires online even if you play solo.

Yeah, but if you really wanted to make an mmo like a sp game - that'd do the trick, in that  - you wouldn't have the option of playing with anyone else - it was suppose to be a joke.......
