I'm extremely glad to hear that space combat might be involved, not to be nit picky but that was the sole thing that got me in SW:G so hopefully they will be able to take that idea and run with it. I was already onboard with the already alluring concept of a more refined and streamline MMO of my favorite franchise, but if they include space combat then I'm pretty much gonna kiss goodbye to my social life. |

Just a shot in the dark, but from what I've seen my impression is that players are going to be primarily in smaller more maneuverable craft rather than large and destructive ships. There could be differing classes of ship to help create a feeling of various classes or gameplay types, but until we can get our hands on it speculation is all we have... unless someone's got beta that is >< |

Weapons and Armor in The Old Republic
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/01/09 2:48:32 PM
I'm just curious if the Jedi class will be accessible to armor. From the Deceived video it appeared as though some of the order jedi were wearing some pretty nice armor. I remember KoTOR didn't really like nor give benefits to jedi with armor by restricting force powers... but this is something that I don't think we'll fully know until more information on the character classes are revealed. |

For pete's sake, nobody gives a crap about story...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/01/09 2:43:24 PM
Ever since I found out about this game I hit KoTOR and about to start KoTOR II by next week. Granted I'm sure the story won't matter for a good number of people who haven't played these games, but the market of SW fans is tremendous. I think the main reason why people aren't so much concerned about the story now is because of the lack of tangible content being released. People want to know how things like class, combat, ie the basic components of the player interaction within this virtual world. The major concern is that once the player interaction components are revealed that it will satisfy the prospective community. Its assumed that developers will create a story and experience that will accurately immerse the player in the Star Wars franchise. But hey, I'm stating this from a person who cares more about MMO gameplay quality than background story, someone who is more concerned about RPing could put story as their primary concerns over that of gameplay.
That and there's always the possibility of hardcore SW fans who just want to play the new starwars game for the sake that its there. I'm not going to knock SW:G, but if you removed the SW franchise from the game it might not have held up as long as it did on its gameplay quality alone.... But thats just speculative of course- I played for about two or three months and found the space simulations more rewarding so my view on the whole SW:G experience would be different to those who enjoyed the other features the game had to offer. It goes without saying that it should serve a learning experience for the developers of SWTOR so they can figure what to do to make a more successful game. |

(Rumored) SW:TOR Legacy System
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/30/09 9:02:33 AM
Jesus, I pray that my girlfriend doesn't get pregnant, why would I want my toon to get a mini me? No one needs a virtual rug rat... besides, most children rebel against their parents in the star wars universe, chances are that you will get killed by them >< |

A warning to Cryptic...
Perpetual Studios Version Discussion « Star Trek Online 6/30/09 7:17:01 AM
As long as Michael Bay doesn't get his hands on this game, I'm sure we can all rest easy...
then again, he would probably be a shot to the balls- trekkies would rage, but casual people would flock to it like stink on roadkill... only until they realize too late that its crap... (sorry, just saw transformers 2.... I'm raging against the man who screwed up transformers.. TWICE!) but seriously the studeos have a huge task ahead of them and this is not an easy franchise to cover. Look at the first attempt at a star wars MMO. Give them the time they need otherwise we may face that travesty all over again.. |

Ditto.. however I think that the caverns AND the BFRs did more harm in the end than good.. Sure new content is great, but once every basefight became swarmed with BFRs then everyone started taking them and the whole infantry warfare got laid waste to the sidelines.. god I loved that game. Sniping was great... even if they only had the one hitbox for the whole body and didn't make headshots instakill. I loved how you could just tool up your character however you wanted, either join up with the outfit in an planned attack on a base, drop into a hotspot and join in any local parties in the area, or just casually head out on your own and solo a tower or mess up the enemy's supply lines....
Random question- did anyone anytime ever manage to push the fight all the way to either of the faction's sanctuaries? Like did that ever happen? or was that just a pipedream? |

>< Nostalgia... anyway heres hoping for a successful new MMO. Once the 3 or 5 other ones I'm following get old I'm sure this will be a nice replacement in the distant future. Wonder when some progress will be seen...
Random thought: is there a coorilation between growing up with legos leading to playing warhammer? |

I don't think things are that bad.. actually from what I've experienced they were indeed in a somewhat piss poor beta stage (had about a page and a half of bugs by the time my character loaded for the first time) but that was way back last year... I have to say it did shake my resolve and I've flashed back to my old disappointments such as Hellgate London (when I actually got my hands on it I was crushed) but they have overcome alot to get where they are now. I'm gonna keep my eye on this game but for the time being there are plenty of other MMOs coming out soon to occupy my time with (or switch over to fully in case the devs haven't made any changes since last year!) |

The differences between Champions Online and City of Heroes
General Discussion « Champions Online 6/30/09 6:51:35 AM
True, however if you wanted to you could claim any game before it spawned the premise for allowing a player to create a hero (primarily medieval based and less on the powers side) but the reasons for CoH's success was possibly because it was the first and only super hero based MMO of its time.. now with atleast 2 on the rise (and super heroes increasingly prevomant appearance in our mainstream media as a source of entertainment) change has to take place. I did CoH when it first came out but the gameplay made the grind too self aware more so than any other game I've ever played. Maybe the same moves over and over again? Either way, I'm psyched for Champions to see the next generation of Super Hero gaming. |

Though I fully agree with the sentiment above (I loved Planetside and am saddened to see nothing like it to this day), I really like the idea of not having to choose a 'side' persay. It really makes it more of a societal interaction. Rather than having just the 'Good' vs 'Evil', its open, undefined. Rather than hating on someone just because of the simple fact that they chose the other team, you can actually interact with everyone on the same level. Just having come from Warhammer Online (what a bust), the pvp was essentially one sided. I'd have loved to have somehow changed sides as mine was never successful in PVP generally, I felt like I was stuck. Bottom line this sounds like a pretty solid concept and I'll look forward to exploring it. |

From what I've seen from this game so far, I can't wait to get my hands on each class to fully try them out! I just hope that there is more balance here in PVP than I've seen in Warhammer Online... they'd change the balance of power with each patch back and forth... not for a good way to hold player loyalty. *please be as awesome as I believe you are Global Agenda!* |

I've had similar issues with MMOs not living up to my expectations... is it just that everything has already been done and anything else is just a new coat of paint to the same old grind? Or maybe developers aren't fully aware of what their final product will be once the dust settles and how gamers will respond- will they carry it and make it work or will it become more like try to grate your teeth through another violation? The concept for this game really caught my eye, but I've been lead astray by too many games in development and to only have my hopes dashed with the final product: Hellgate London, RF Online, Warhammer online, Huxley even for the same reason and almost Stargate Worlds! I'm just hoping that at this point SW Old Republic, Jumpgate, Global Agenda, OR Champions Online will be something worth keeping me enthralled for more than a year.
Random question: Has anyone played Combat Arms? Is the whole money system and weapons selection better or worse than crimecraft? |
