An 18G download is asking alot of people. That in itself is really going to hurt the overall subscriber numbers. Remember, not everyone has unlimited broadband. They really better be considering selling this on a disk.

The client size in itself is disturbing. The download has to be compressed, so what's the real size? Again, not everyone will have the hard drive space to run it, which will also limit the subscribers. Looking on my pc, the uninstall program shows WAR at 10.8 gig and LOTRO at 9.44 gig.

I'll say 50,000 - 75,000 subscribers, the top end of that is what Lineage 2 gets worldwide outside of Korea and Japan.

A million subscribers....

I remember when someone on these boards said the same thing will happen with Vanguard. If they're lucky, they'll have 75-100k subscribers after a year. The same as Lineage 2 outside of Asia.

Why? There's two reasons. The first is no advertising, word of mouth will only get you so far. Look at the games that have over 200k subscribers, they all advertise like mad. Add to this no open beta, sorry but this is a no name company. This game screams try before you buy. If they want any chance of success, they really need to have the open beta.

Second is due to the playstyle. Open PvP is a niche. After the first week or two, there will be people far ahead of the pack. These we'll call the predators. They will as you see in all pvp games, start preying on the "lower levels", the victims. Once the victims realize that they'll never be able to catch up with the predators, plus they lose stuff every death, they'll stop playing. People play for fun, and I think you'll see that there will be a very large drop in subs after the first month.

Games currently with 200k - 500k subscribers:

WAR, EQ2, EVE, LOTRO , maybe AoC

Again, if the people who make games believe there's a market for this type of game, don't you think it would have been made already? And for those who use Eve as a pvp example, remember most of the players reside and play in Empire where it's fairly safe from pvp unless you do Faction Warfare of are in a corp war.

I'd love to see one of the reporters on this site ask some of the dev's they interview their opinions on the feasability of a pvp only mmo.

The problem is that alot of the people on this board are the vocal pvp minority. If there truly was a market for pure pvp, don't you think someone would have tried? Game publishers aren't idiots, they will create a game if there's a profit to be made.

The reason this is a pipe dream is because of the overall mechanics of pvp as you see in most games. Unless you have loads of free time to play, you'll always be the prey in these types of games due to levels, gear, etc. I have a family, job, etc so gaming is low on my list of time available to do so I have to play casually. And I'm not stupid enough to pay $15 a month just to be your entertainment. This is the reason that fps' are superior to pvp mmo gaming. Everyone is equal, and it's only based on skill

There are alot more of us in this casual group who can and do spend the money in gaming than "hardcore" pvp'rs. So really, who do you think a developer is going to cater to?

Just like this site, the overall quality at Warcry has gone down since Dana Massey left.

None of these reviewers are paid professionals. It's all volunteer work. Some do a great job, others like this one don't.

In this case, I'm assuming there wasn't an editor reviewing before it posted. As with anything else on the web, you get what you pay for.

First, to the op and the others who said they serve, Thank You.

But as for the topic of the post, welcome to becoming an adult.

You'd be amazed at the number of resumes (CV for our British and Candian friends) that I've thrown into the trash of candidates for a job that requires a college degree, which had major spelling or grammatical errors. If you can't take the time to proof-read before sending it out, I'm not going to waste my time to interview you.

I really pray that it's due to laziness, and not poor education. (This doesn't apply to non-native English speakers. They at least try to learn and improve.)

As an old commercial said, "People really do judge you by the way you speak..." It also applies to how well you write.

The Karma system is an exact copy of what was in Lineage 1. Great system by the way, and not carebear.

Roving bands of Red's used to cause alot of fear.

Looking forward to more info.

They had to have copied this game from L2.

I forget the race that it was in this game, but they run EXACTLY like the Dark Elves in L2.

He's the "Magic Negro".

Google it, and look for an LA Times editorial, not exactly known as a bastion of conservative thought. And to the poster a page back, I looked at his "record" , nothing there that shouts presidential to me.

The man has done nothing during his time in the Senate.

If he wasn't black and young, he wouldn't even be here.

An injunction is about as useful as toilet paper if you can't enforce it. Just remember where most of these companies are from.

Move on, nothing to see here. This guy will just get a relative to form another company in China and they'll be back on in a week.

Do what Eve does.

If you're caught buying ISK, they turn your bank  balance into a negative of what you purchased.

You buy 50million gold? Your bank balance is negative 50 million.

Also these companies need  to be more aggressive in disputing the chargebacks. It can be done, but you need to hire some competent people to do it.

I'm personally waiting to see if they announce any firings. If they don't it's a huge corporate mistake.

At a minimum, they need to fire the programmer who thought it was a good idea to name a file after a critical Windows file. They also need to fire whoever leads the QA group. It was inexcusable for them to miss this, especially since there were supposed posts saying this was happening on Singularity.

The fanbois can apologize for CCP all they want, but at the end of the day, this was a huge error on CCP's behalf and in the grown up world people get fired for doing things like this.

They're not going to fire someone for naming a file boot.ini

Hate to break this to you but windows has thousands of files.  Many of which are 'os breaking' if they're deleted.  Naming a file 'boot.ini' is really not a big deal.  The only person who COULD be fired is the QA person who was responsible to make sure all checks were made on the patch before it was released.  Boot.ini has been part of the EVE application since the game was in beta.  It's never caused a problem before now because they've never monkeyed with the loader before.  Even when they did a total engine revamp it never caused a problem.

I'm not positive but I don't ever recall any posts about this happening on singularity.  I'm not a fanboi and I am pissed about this but if you're going to call for people to be fired you better have some facts and not just hearsay.  Post links to the posts you are referring to please.

Just an FYI:  You can't fire someone for naming a file something over 5 years ago.

Link ,8th post in thread, which was posted on December 3... http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=648131&page=1#8

"One thing I noticed yesterday was that the content upgrade install blew away C:\boot.ini. I'm sure that the intention is to actually delete <EVE Install Folder>\boot.ini. Might need to fix that! Shocked"

There were more, but I'm not going through those 70 pages again.

Be glad you don't work for my company then. Something like this would be termination on the spot. This caused harm to people.

None are going to beat them, but I think they're now declining, at least in the West.

Coincidence that patch 2.3 is coming out the same day as the new EQ2 expansion?

Go play Fury, it's 100% pvp supposedly. Or wait for Darkfall (just kidding, if anything says vaporware it's this game)

The problem is that anytime a pvp game comes out, there's not enough support for it. That's the reason none are being made.

It's not going to be D+D.

Have all of you forgotten about a little game named Dungeons and Dragons Online? I'm sure Turbine paid alot of money for the license and would have something to say about a competing game. The same most likely goes for KOTOR as Sony is still running SWG.

some servers on WoW can have that many characters. But the servers will only handle the 4-5 thousand at a time.

recomend me one please

Using what the OP stated, the only answer is Eve. They average 25-30k people on their server. WoW has 4-5k.

Remember, you can only play with the people on the server you're on at that moment, so the 8.95M other wow players are segregated from you.
