This is why companies are reluctant to have public beta tests now. Players that get into beta are no longer trying to help the developers test the game and iron out bugs, but see it as a way to get early access to the game and assess it based on it's state in beta. Beta is for testing, not reviewing. Review a finished product, not one under development

Didn't get it. Not planning to either. I found COD4's single player to be good but short, and the multiplayer to be mediocre at best. Seems MW2 is a bad console port with a shorter story and gimped multiplayer, not worth an extra $10.

I'm waiting for Battlefield Bad Company 2. Battlefield's multiplayer experience was always much better than COD.

Here here! To the good times current players will never get to experience, and will never understand.

I would first try to learn a little bit of programming on your own to make sure you enjoy programming and aren't just doing it in order to make games. You may actually enjoy designing game better than you like programming.

If you find you enjoy programming, go for a traditional Computer Science degree. A computer science degree will give you the opportunity to be a game programmer, or any other type of programmer. A game degree will only allow you to work on games.

You may find that you like programming but don't care for game development, or don't want to do it professionally. That's the boat I'm in. I do some basic game programming in my free time, but I probably won't do it professionally, just keep it as a hobby. Regular programming jobs pay more than equivalent game programming jobs because competition for game jobs is higher.

I quit Star Wars Galaxies because of the NGE. If it weren't for that I might still be playing today.

I quit Guild Wars because I played through the content multiple times. I kind of ran out of things to do. I went back when the expansion came out, but once I beat that a couple times I fell back into the same spot and stopped playing.

I quit WoW because I realized what an epic waste of gear grinding time it really was. Couldn't believe I had gotten suckered in for so long. I'm almost ashamed, and feel bad for those that haven't realized it yet.

Wow, that is awesome! Between this game and Earthrise, the MMORPG genre may finally get a solid game released!

I find all of the pay to play MMOs currently available all have a large amount of suckage tied to them. If I had to pick "the best" pay to play, I would probably pick Eve. The best MMO on the market right now is Guild Wars, but that isn't p2p.

A greedy developer to me is one that attempts to make more money through other, less respectful means than by providing a better product. The best example is the introduction of RMT and microtransactions into subscription based games. These developers are taking things that should normally be included with a subscription fee, removing them, and reselling them to the user at an extra cost. The developer is attempting to make more money by making the user pay more for the same product instead of trying to make more money by making a better product.

Ehhh, No. We have seen nothing but "WoW 2.0" attempts for a while and I'm sick of it. We need something different than WoW, not more of the same.

I can tell you straight up that F2P will never, EVER "win" me. If this genre is moving towards pay to win free to play, it will be a genre I am not a part of.

Then again, I haven't seen a pay to play game that was actually worth paying for come out in quite a few years, so I suppose that unless the quality of MMOs being released goes up, it won't effect me either way.

Normal. Being a hero doesn't really feel like being a hero when you know everyone else in the world is the exact same "Hero". Being a hero in a single player game works because you are the only hero there. In an MMO, when I read all of the "You're a hero!" BS it just seems stupid to me.

Any time you go on to a forum and complain about a certain game mechanic or change, you'll find supporters of it that will call you a whiner and tell you to L2P.

Solutions pretty simple, don't make posts like this unless you objective is to get criticized by some, and perhaps get confirmation from some others that your opinion is shared by others.

It won't actually change anything because Dev's rarely see such posts and even if they did,  know that they made the changes after much consideration and they feel it is best for the game in the long run.

Not saying they're correct btw, but it is their playground to do as they see fit.  We consumers have a choice, accept it, or go play something else.

Which is what i did about 3 years ago when I left WOW.

The fact you are into playing every new WOW copy launched in these last 2 years, shows you miss it.

Even Aoin gets a chance, while you don't even have a clue about WotLK and WOW  2009. Talking about blindness.

It doesn't prevent you either to post here constantly promoting EVE in your signature note and trash talk about a game you no longer even know the basics from anno 2009.

And then even have the nerve to talk disrespectful about people who love WOW like Zorn in other posts.

It shows quite an attitude.

You don't have to play WoW every second of every day of every year to know what the game is like. Sprinkles and dashes of "new" things have been added, but the core of the game still is, and always will be the same: Gear Grind

No, I haven't played the game since just after WotLK came out. I still know nearly everyone in the game is grinding BG's for gear, grinding Arena's for gear, grinding instances for gear, or grinding raids for gear. Sorry, but I don't need to continually play WoW to know that I don't want to sit in front of my computer grinding all day in sub-par PvP, or boring PvE to get "epic" gear to stroke my epeen to.

But keep attacking every single person that played WoW and doesn't like it.

I can't wait to play the new Planet Side Next Trading Card Game that is sure to go along with this. Prepare for incoming microtransactions and RMT!

Blizzard is already incapable of balancing it's 9 10 classes that is has, why would you want to throw more into the fray? Blizzard shouldn't worry about adding new classes until they can learn to balance the ones they have, and I don't think they ever will.

I loved the twitch aspect of JtL.  Being a higher level pilot could help with the twitch quite a bit, and it was not anywhere near the cause of the downfall of SWG.  If you think that, you are just lying to yourself.

Would be great for some twitch space fighting in TOR.

I agree. I only found SWG because I looked on LucasArts website to see if they had any newer X-Wing style games, and I found JTL. I ended up falling in love with the ground game more than JTL, but I played JTL a bit when I first started. Good fun. I'm dying for a good online twitch based space sim, and since JGE is looking to suck big time, I'd love to see it in TOR.

SOE, John Smedley to be precise.

no one wants an action game in an mmoRPG

look at what it did to swg all jtls did was allow the damn action twich arcade gamers in and they are the ones who whined to $OE about how swg needed to be more like wow.

oh and hey look at how well a wow star wars has done with the nge.

point is bioware needs to take notes and see what gamers really want.

Are you honestly complaining about them adding twitch space combat into TOR? Really? What would you rather have, boring Eve point and click space combat or no space at all? Both seem like terrible options when compared to twitch based sim style space combat. Sign me up for that.

I find the leveling fun and interesting.

Ok, I really have to ask, what in the world(of warcraft) did you find "fun and interesting" about having to do 500000000 "Kill X of Y" quests? WoW's end game was somewhat entertaining, if not simply for it's addictive nature, but it's leveling was akin to chewing broken glass.

This post is going to be about people not game itself.

After spending some time here on the forums, I have really come to conclusion that a lot of people trully thinks and believe that every WOW player is retard, stupid, kid, moron, blind etc. Now I know why some of them see it that way cause I have seen some posts which WOW fanbois have put and they can not relly be labeled smart. My point here is that WOW have some other playerbase which is not really in that group of mindless fanbois, but people seem to generalise all of population, as a matter of fact it is starting to be the case with lot of games lately, for example in AION forums lot of people who acctually do not like game are calling it Asian Grindfest.

I mean, are we human enought to accept that if we do not like something it does not have to be stupid by default. Are human enought to see just a little beyond generalisation others have pulled out on us? This forum can be great place to hang out and have creative disscusions but somehow I feel everyday it is going farther from it.

I placed this in WOW forum on purpose, cause I happen to be subscribed to it at time being. And my gaming history of MMORPG is: EVE, Guild Wars, Dungeons & Dragons online, Lord of the rings, Tabula Rasa, World of Warcraft.

Looking for: Star Wars old republic and Star trek online.

That's what people do, they generalize. Always have, and probably always will.

That being said, most of us have seen and played with the WoW crowd first hand because actually played WoW at some point. We aren't just going out on a whim, we have seen the retardation first hand. Generalizations cover a large amount of something, but never account for everything and there are always exceptions.

Oh, and if you want to complain about people thinking WoW players are retarded, you may want to spell the only word in your title correctly.

Let's say your in a WoW(or EQ2) instance with a raid of 24. How exactly is that offline play? Not to mention you can still send tells, talk in guild chat, and interact with anyone online.

C'mon guys, get a freakin' clue. Instancing is perfectly fine.

You aren't in the game world anymore, you are in your own little special custom world. Some people like the idea of an online world, and instancing kills that feeling. It kills immersion.
