Darkfall GM Teleports Player Player gets Ganked and Looted by enemies - Now being covered up by Aventurine and all threads being deleted so we will discuss it here(Screenshots provided)

So, one one hand it is cool when the GMs have no power so you are free to do what ever you want, while it is not cool when the GMs have no power as they then can't imediatly reimburse lost items. Maybe just get rid of the GMs altogether and let anarchy reign supreme. If you get permantly stuck or account hacked just think of it as permanent death. Drakfall is for the "hardcore" afterall. |

What ponders me a bit is the player who purposely looted the other players corpse while being told by a GM explicit not to do so.
In EVE that would have resulted in a banning, temporary as it might be. The Zombie Corp incident in Yulai comes to mind. Of course that would also have brought an outcry on the forums, especially among "hardcore" PvP's. But like unruly dogs they sometimes need a bit of beating to recognize who is in charge (the GMs, not themselves) and by the end of the day the game will prosper from that.

General: The Sci-Fi MMO: The Past
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/17/10 12:23:13 PM
I have always been a great fan of sci-fi games, though it is only in recent years I have been able to put a finger on it. Perhaps because I like science. I was with EVE when it launched. Not because I am a firm fanboy, as I left the game again after about three months, only to return after another three months. At that time the player base had grinded enough liquid currency for market mechanism to kick in, and making enough to go around became much easier. I have had some odd experiences when browsing for alternate sci-fi MMOs. When I went to the Earth & Beyond homepage they had just announced the games closure, and later when I was looking at Star Wars Galaxies they had just released the NGE. I had wanted to play SWG earlier but had waited for the Jump to Lightspeed expansion, as what makes Star Wars tick for me are games like X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Jedi's are better people than me, and I lost all interest in KotOR then moment I was forced to be one. (Not saying it was a bad game, but I truly lost interest). Anyhow, I had apparently waited too long and the SWG train had passed (and gotten derailed further down the track). I remember with fondness how those two events (closure of E&B and the NGE) brought certain batches of "emigrants" to EVE. Perhaps it is true that these population boosts plays a big role in why EVE succeeded. If Star Trek falls on its face we might see a third immigration soon. If CCP manages to pull off Planetary Interaction, Incarna and Dust within a foreseeable future, I will be hard pressed to find an alternate sci-fi MMO.
EDIT: Well, a Warhammer 40k will get my interest. |

I think you are on the right track.
You see, EVE is open ended (also known as "sandbox") so there is not really one single "point" to the game. Whatever you might find fun, another will find dreadfully boring. In EVE you you are not the hero. You are a guy making a living by maximizing profit while trying to reduce costs and at the same time, shoot those guys in the face that annoys you. |

I have played solo for the last six years and it have not gotten boring for me yet. I have both a character in a rookie NPC corp and in my own solo corp. I needed the corp facade to be able to run my own starbase in low security space. There are lots of things to do for a solo player, especially enjoying the thrills of low security space. |

I too would say that it is a overestimating to put the load time between systems to 20 seconds. It is more like five seconds for far the majority of the systems. Certainly not a bother. |

PvE content is most awesome when done in a PvP context. As example, exploration is really fun in low security space. The encounters are rewarding and the NPCs not all too difficult, but while lingering around at the site you might be scanned down by unfriendly player pirates or other explores. Certain measures and tactics can be used to avoid confrontation like speed running the site before anybody has a chance to catch you. I enjoy EVE to its fullest when I play the part of the juicy beef in front of the lions mouth, but always just out of reach. |

EVE Online: 2009 Game of the Year
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/13/10 4:24:44 AM
As a EVE player since its release, I feel somehow proud about the staff at MMORPG.com selecting the game, which has been my hobby for the last many years, as the best. I feel even more happy, when I see the same recognition of quality from people who can see beyond their own personal taste. I feel a bit sad too though. Because I know EVE is far from perfect and I would very much like to try another MMO. But what to choose when you are already playing the best? |

Seriously, I have seen the same kind of bugs in DAoC, even in WoW, long after they were released and while it may bothers immersion a bit, it is no where near being a deal breaker. And the cities are empty of players during a beta? Thank you for informing me, Captain Obvious. |

There are also two new career missions: Exploration and Advanced Combat. Though I am a vet I am certain to try out those. There is a lot of major and minor changes coming (like being able to see contents of ships and containers remotely) which are really going to improve/enhance this game a lot. |

More gender bending - voice chat filters
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/29/09 4:19:17 PM
To finalize this topic I just wanted to say that CCP already has implemented voice fonts as a part of their newest expansion: link. Without Ambulation I don't think it will get much usage though, but let us see which, if any, predictions made in this thread will come true. |

I dunno, I admit I like to create female avatars, but ... I always always say I'm a guy IRL. Masking your voice like a female ... sounds gay to me. (not that there is anything wrong with it...of course) This voice thing is just not my cup of tea. That is perfectly fine. That just shows where you put your personal line. It is quite evident from this thread that there is far from a common consensus where this line should be put. I never imagined the question would result in such a massive amount of responses. I guess it is because we somehow all can see more than one side to the case, at least I hope that. Btw. I always tell my real gender, but not unless asked. It seems like irrelevant information to me, and I do not ask about other peoples gender either. I generally stay my self and my avatars as far away of any sexual related involvements as possible. |

I have high expectations for World of Darkness, especially because it is the IP owners themselves that are going to design the game. |

The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/19/09 6:08:11 AM
Wow, nice discussion you guys have been having, and I am sorry for not contributing my self but it seems like I got the flu. The reason why I find this topic interesting, was because I often hear people refer to voice chat when you want to know the real person behind the avatar. It seems like they are not really considering that the voice they hear might be as fake as the ingame avatar. Personally I do not plan on dating anybody I ever meet online, I hardly regard them as real friends after all. So I would have no problem if voice filters became more common in MMOs so you could really sound like the orc/gnome/crazy wizard that you are trying to be. |

At last years fanfest CCP mentioned that they would be adding voice filters in Incarna so you could alter your voice, even to sound like the opposite gender. I like this, and will most certainly use it because me avatar is female and I want her to speak accordingly. This does not mean I have secret wish of being female, but simply, that I enjoy the immersing into the life of my avatar while at the same time keep a strict separation between me and my avatar. Do you guys foresee some problems, when it becomes more natural for people to alter the voice as games implements easy access to such features, and it is no longer only done by true oddballs? |
