Incursion, Great expansion or Greatest expansion?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 3/18/11 6:06:07 AM
If all expansions were like 'Incursions' EVE would be a better game. I do not know if I would call it 'the greatest EVE expansion ever' nor if making incursions really should have been a top priority for CCP at the time, but the expansion has delivered good stuff in so many ways that I for certain will label is as successful. It is at least in the same ballpark as 'Apocrypha'.
Though, I am rather puzzled why expansion like 'Empyrean Age' (Faction Warfare with little to no impact on the systems effected, stupid NPCs, broken capturing mechanics and no long term goals to fight for) and 'Tyrannis' (Planetary Interaction with horrible extractor interface (before its fix in 'Incursions') and promises of planetary population control that never happened) have been mentioned as 'good expansions'.

EVE Online: Iskbank.com Exposed
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/14/11 5:37:59 AM
Let us not forget: CCP can legally deny access to their server for anybody they choose at any given time for no reason at all. If CCP decides to react on the "leaked" information, there is little to nothing those hit with the ban-hammer can do. |

General: Unhappy Valentine's Day
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/18/11 7:34:57 AM
Valentine's Day was great. We went to the cinema to see a movie we could both agree on and then we went home and had sex. Could not ask for more.
I do not like RL holiday celebrations in my MMO at all and appreciate that CCP is generally keeping it out of the game. |

Strange to hear all this talking about 'warfare' and 'ganking' as in the seven years I have played EVE I have never participated in either. Despite spending at least 50% of my time doing exploration, gas harvesting and booster production in low security space. My ship loss ratio is about one every year (NPC and player losses put together). When traveling with my valuable gas and boosters in unsecure space I often feel like juicy meat on a stick in front of the lions mouth, and I have realized that this is the exact experience I enjoy the most. Because with a good stick I will always be safe from the lions teeth. |

Frequently this question is asked on the forum and the answer is here. Do not start commeting* on lack of content in EVE before having done 1/10'th of the items on the chart.

so the jewellery masks hats tattoos from old char cration will be on micro shop ?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 1/22/11 7:41:29 AM
That is just it, cosy; as you can buy PLEX for ISK from another player willing to sell, you can, from one perspective, buy these items with ISK and nobody are forcing you to invest real world money of your own into them.
It might initially sound bad, but think about this; with an increased demand for PLEX to buy vanity items the price on PLEX will rise. This will mean, that those who buy game time cards to sell as PLEX will get more ISK for the money spend on the game time cards as the price of those are uneffected by the EVE world market. This will have an impact on 'gold' farmers and sellers as they then have to devalue their prices to be competitive, or increase their production with an equal increased likelihood of getting discovered and shot down (for a while only, perhaps, but still). |

Jita (General) « EVE Online 1/21/11 12:31:46 PM
When CCP says 'micro-transactions' I have only seen evidence that they in fact mean 'purchasable with PLEX'. While this will be an annoyance for those who wish to use buy PLEX from other players to extend the game time due to an increase in price, it will have the benefit of allowing people to purchase these 'vanity' items without forcing you to spend extra real world money on them. Still, somebody must spend real world money to buy the PLEX.

General: Have Character, Will Craft?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/28/10 7:28:23 AM
Wait a bit; "But there are problems with crafting in all the MMOs I've played,.. (grind)". I most certainly have never felt crafting in EVE as any kind of grind, especially as resource collection (in EVE) should been seen as a completely separate occupation to pure crafting and can be completely skipped. In fact, the whole research and invention aspect to crafting has been developed into a trade in itself in EVE too.
Basis for my crafting is tech 2 ship production and all it requires for me is to once every half year collect all data cores for the next months invention tasks. Then on a weekly basis I restart all invention and copying tasks, take a trip to Jita and back to collect production materials and setup new production tasks. All in all work for half to one hour.
If I want to do any more crafting I dabble in booster production that is such an exclusive crafting field that no sufficient guides existed to it until I wrote one myself.
Btw. I never feel any pressure from customer demands due to the wonderful dynamics of EVEs market system (3 month sale orders ftw.) If anything, increase in demand simply increase my profit.

Blizzard's new TITAN mmorpg? sci-fi?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/16/10 8:43:05 AM
Can't 'Titan' be some kind of revolutionary new technology Blizzard are planning on integrating into WoW? Like expanding cross-server interactions essentially making all WoW servers into one. Sounds like a 'titan' to me. Heck, it could also be a release from a sub-contractor. |

General: 2010 Awards: Game of the Year

While not being the most innovative or having success with its expansions this year EVE Online is still by far the best MMORP out there for my taste. |

DAoC was my first but EVE is the best MMO I have ever played. Partly because I am just a sucker for sci-fi but also because I could walk of the beaten path and progress without needed assistance of others and without the game turning into a threadmill. (I ran missions and operated out of the Blood Raider stations in the Bleak Lands from late 2003 all on my own). |

General: 2010 Awards: Most Innovative
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/07/10 4:29:20 AM
Long time EVE player here BUT, by the start of 2010 CCP had put not only one but two major innovative steps on their road plan for the coming year: Planetary Interaction (PI) and Incarna.
The team handling the implementation of PI did a poor job (self admitted by CCP even). Due to various factors they only managed to implement the bare minimum (if even) of features PI was planned to included (the 'MUST 'elements for you SCRUM lovers). In particular; the horrible clicking interface and the inability to restart extractors at will made PI less than an enjoyable experience for most. Topped with the theme of the trailer and expansion name (Tyrrannis) both hinting some kind of control of planetary populations and none of the sort was in the actual release. This made PI a rather poor experience and far from the innovative gameplay that had been presented at the previous fan fest. Making it worse, the remaking of the extractor interface that will at least make the production side of PI an enjoyable experience has been pushed to a January release which in my mind excludes that feature from this poll. Population control is not even on the radar anymore…
Incarna has as well been pushed to the January release making the version of Incursion released this year very lacking in content. The ‘Character Creator’ mentioned in the presentation above is a feature for next year. Even the actual 'incursions', which is a rather innovative feature in itself, have been pushed to January.
CCP made a lot of promises for innovative features for the previous year but delivered very little. While it put hope for what is coming next year there is no way I am going to vote for them in this category. Blizzard takes the price though I have not played WoW in five years and are not planning on doing so again, but I respect what Cataclysm has done to improve their world.

It often gets mentioned (also in this thread) that being in a corporation makes the game excel. True for some people, but in my personal experience EVE is the best "solo player" MMORPG I have ever played. Not really solo, as while my characters are either still in the rookie or my own one-man corporation and I rarely conduction operations together with others I do encounter resistance from other players all the time. No need to worry about poor AI when there are real people to play the parts of pirates, thieves, scammers, market speculators, raving bandits and so on.
EVE allows me to go against the stream and still provide game features and content to explore and enjoy. Long time ago I got the idea of writing guides (or more correct; documentation) for some of the features of the game that are little known by the majority of the game population. I have written about COSMOS and epic arc missions, wormhole sites and even booster production. And there is still more stuff to explore thanks to CCPs habit of underdocumenting new features allowing explorers like me to play around.

I "got" EVE the moment I started studying the game universe and background material and found an aspect interesting. This I turned into a role with a personal goal to achieve. Over the years I have become better and better at setting new self defined goals and persue them let it take weeks or months. Following, it has also become impossible for me to enjoy MMOs which set goals and achievements for me and doesn't allow me to walk off the beaten path. |

As a retired WoW player (since 2008 or before), would you come back for Cata?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 10/27/10 6:54:30 AM
To answer the OP: No. Comparing the revenue WoW is generating for Blizzard with the level of innovative content being funneled back into the game has made me completely distrust the company. They should be able to do it so much better with those kind of funds assuming there is a genuine interest and ability within the company to expand the game universe. |

General: Speculating on World of Darkness
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/10 4:37:03 AM
I fully expect CCP/WW to want werewolves, mages and all the other World of Darkness creatures in this MMO as much as everybody else. Hell, proberly more than most. CCP is well known for expanding their games more "horizontally" (adding completely new game features) than "vertically" (adding to exsisting game features) to even such degree that EVE players have started complaining about it. Werewolves and mages will be around to play with one day and as such is the name World of Darkness well suited for this MMO. |
