But hey, here's the thing a average done this way would easily be present more uncertainty than running an trend comparison (as in take all thurday last 5 weeks and see how much has in increased, same thing friday and finally same this saturday and sunday...). If you trend the data, you can easily see as much as a +50% or +60% increase. This is pretty fare away from what you present so I would try to be a bit more accurate with your numbers. Lets take an average of 50% and 60% at say we have +55% increase in all fairness.
How are the numbers in January comparing to those in July? Got any + or - for that? |

1. MMOs aren't meant to be realistic, as i thought everyone knew.. 2. In real life if someone killed you, then you would be able to be 'fully looted' so I don't get what you mean by it's not very realistic? please expand on this, I'm slightly confused.
1. Thats true, but if Darkfall didnt have full loot you would claim it to be unrealistic.
2. In real life those who loots hundreds or thousands of corpses after killing them would be despised by society.
Full loot would be great imo if it had consequenses. If its a battlefield and you loot corpses then thats just normal soldier behaviour. If you kill someone 1vs1 and with the intent to loot them then you are a robber.
In what shape will the looted objects be? An armor with holes in it? Shoes that dont fit you?
Trying to build a funtional world for economy and politics will not work if there are no consequenses imo :) |

This "full loot" thing is a very strange game mechanic. Not realistic at all. |

There can be a rough atmosphere in these forums. But devs do come here from time to time to talk to mmorpg.com's users (ex Famine from Funcom). So mmorpg.com forums do carry some weight.
Some members of this forum also contribute so some very interesting investigations regarding various mmo-scams, failures etc.
Sure, trolls are rampant and so are fanbois. The viral marketing dudes are also plenty in some forums. All in all I find these forums vital for me as an mmo player. Without them I would surely have fallen in some "pre-order trap". (Ye well I did preorder The Chronicle but got my money back :) |

Do you realize that Greece has around 11 million people? 11.000.000. What you are suggesting is that 0.5-1.0% of the total population would buy Darkfall?
I think its more around 5.000. |

Game over for the current crop of MMOs?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/14/09 3:32:25 PM
I think that the next huge mmo will be the one that does not in any way what so ever look at WoW's content/features/game mechanics. Heck, even screw the "polished" thing because that will just be the first step to make a carbon copy of WoW.
AoC for example is strikingly similar to WoW. I guess WAR is also but I havent played it.
The next big MMO is the one where such things as tanks, epics, 25 man raid, battlegrounds, healer, loot and grind simply does not exist.
The first mistake any mmo maker does is to think "so, which classes will tank?". |

Simple reason as to why I believe Aventuring is NOT pulling a failcom/$ony/DnL/etc...
General Discussion « Darkfall 1/13/09 11:47:09 PM
Darkfall a scam or not?
I have no clue. But if it is a scam then it's already over and it wasnt aimed at the players but the investors.
Maybe Darkfalls future will be something like this:
* No open beta will be released and the 22 of january will pass by with no news for the DF community. * A few days or weeks later Aventurine will claim they have stumbled upon problems upon which they have no power. * Aventurine will announce staff changes. Especially higher employees will leave the company and fresh faces will take over. * The new faces will say that it was the old staff was the reason for Darkfalls delay. More news will be announced at a later stage. * Aventurine will merge with a small unknown game company and is now known as "Dark Games Game Studio". News about Darkfalls fate will follow in a few weeks they say. Quote: "It is out of our hands" - Leading game dev * Dark Games Game studio announces that "Darkfall" will change gameengine to a "Top of the line game engine with many new features". * Sometime in April "Dark Games Game Studio" is closed down. Petitions are made to "Give out Darkfalls sourcecode' * During the summer a small group of fanbois keep the mmorpg.com Darkfall-forum section alive. No news about Darkfall except one or two posters who claim to have been among the Darkfall devs. They say the game was finished and had great potential. * During the autumn of 2009 a few game devs are in a meeting with possible future investors about a "sandbox fantasy mmo" that will have a guaranteed slice of the lucrative mmo market since there is no competition for those special sanbox customers. "There is no competition so you have a VERY good chance to get back your investments and a huge profit on top of that" says the boss of the small new indie game studio "Medifan Games". "We will release the game in Q1 2011, thats for sure" says the Medifan boss to the impressed investors. One of the ask a question "Can you tell me again Tosas, what is a mmorpg really? Is it like Sims?" "No no not at all" he clicks on his laptop and brings up a chart of WoW sales and monthly revenues.
---
But maybe it is a great game. I hope so :) |

Yeah I know Avery. EE basically said the same thing though. The important thing here is that is was very easy to spot EE hinting "early 2009" when he actually knew that would never happen. And so did most of us i guess. |

Some basic questions about TCoS
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 1/07/09 1:52:21 PM
So, i've tried the f2p part up to level 7½. I've done most quests in the starter zone. Gotten a bunch of new skills and done some interesting fighting. I've looked around a little but it is hard to find good information about this game, in perticular how the end game is.
1. How many instances are there currently in the game and at what levelrange are they?
2. Does PvP have a meaning? The only thing I know is that you can lose a PeP-level if you get killed.
3. Anything like housing/guild buildings in the game?
4. Any mounts currently in the game, or plans for it?
5. Is the gameworld changing in any way or just static?
6. Any gather skills except random drops from mobs? ---
I do like the flow of the game when you quest but is there anything else to do? If so what?
Thanks for answers in advance :) |

Every MMO is after WOW subs. Duh. Now you contradict yourself, my previous reply to your post you stand firm by implying AOC was going to a WOW killer.
Nah. Its just you who dont get it. And I will not watch the hype videos or read the hype interviews again just do dig up that quote for you. And really, just logging in and playing some AoC proves me right. Think and you will get it. |
