It sure does sound like they’re setting us up to be disappointed. Oh well. They should just release the darn thing with three races and a level 30 cap. Based on my experiences in the last BWE, this portion of the game seems pretty much done. They could add the final two races and increase the level cap over the next few months and it wouldn’t bother me at all. |

Video - [MH] Mostly Harmless - Small group WvW from beta

Thanks for posting the videos. The color coordination reminded me of a clan that also ran around all purple in an old game called Neocron. I forget their name. |

I’ve read that as soon as you enter the Mists your character is boosted to level 80, all the skills are unlocked, and you have access to the best gear. My understanding is that this holds true if you enter the ranked/instanced PvP matches since they are all about skill and not gear or character level.
But I have also read that in WvW: “Character level adjustments have a limit, however. The level-adjustment system won’t let a level 1 character go head-to-head against a level 80 character with much chance of victory—a level 80 character is still going to have more bonuses on their gear and access to a full complement of utility and elite skills that players just don’t have at lower levels.”
So does this mean that when your character enters the Mists all the skills are unlocked but then if you walk through the WvW portal only the skills you have unlocked are available?
I want to make it very clear that I am not criticizing the system; I am simply trying to understand how the scaling works in WvW.

Do the personal story choices affect more than appearance?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 4/21/12 4:14:45 PM
I noticed in videos of character creation that you have to make certain choices about your character’s background and preferences. I assume the personal story will continue to present you with many more choices.
Do these choices have any effect on combat or build mechanics or are they simply for aesthetic and RPG purposes?
Thanks.

I know that the WvW area is divided into four land masses. Are these four sections separate zones that require a portal and loading screen or can you walk continuously from one to another?
Thanks.

There are plenty of shooters that are going strong a decade after launch simply due to the constant supply of new maps from the player community. But the WvW area in GW2 is so huge and complex that I wonder if ArenaNet is up to challenge of creating an entirely new one for an expansion?
If they do eventually create new WvW zones then I hope they rotate between them every two week cycle rather than splitting the player base up amongst multiple WvW maps running concurrently.
Maybe they could scramble the locations of the resource camps and minor towers to keep things interesting.

I’ll be playing GW2 primarily for their WvW content so I will be very curious to see how an expansion adds to that aspect of the game.

Will we end up with a subset of servers with a world PvP focus?

Thanks, I wasn't aware of a fee associated with changing homeservers. Regardless, I plan to spend 80% of my time in the WvWvW zone and if the server I am on does not have a whole lot of activity in this area then I will most likely pay the fee. |

Will we end up with a subset of servers with a world PvP focus?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 3/27/12 5:47:45 AM
I didn’t play the original game. PvE content and small group, instanced, structured PvP doesn’t interest me. But I stumbled across a world vs. world video a few weeks ago and now I am definitely giving this a try.
Open world PvP is very dependent on high populations to work well. One concern I have comes from my experience in Warhammer Online. That game also offered PvE content, instanced PvP, and world PvP. My main interest was in the world PvP but even during the very first month when populations were high, it was difficult to find consistent world PvP action. I realize that WAR split each server’s population into opposing factions and that their tier system split the players up yet again, but I still get the feeling that there will be many GW2 servers where the world PvP action will be less active than other servers.
Over time, players interested primarily in world versus world gameplay will begin migrating to a subset of servers where the majority of players share their primary interest. I’m not saying this is a bad thing as I can definitely see myself following that path.

Never played the original but this sequel is catching my interest.
Will it matter that I never played GW or is there some sort of carried over bonus that would put me at a disadvantage?
(I ask this question with regards to the PvP; I don’t care at all about cosmetic or other fluff features.)

Are you playing because of the game’s post-launch potential?

Maybe I just expected too much?

I think that any fan of this genre of games—even a fan that wasn’t following the massive pre-launch marketing blitz—would have gleaned enough information to have a pretty good idea of what kind of game this was going to be. Nonetheless, I think it is perfectly reasonable to have hoped to be pleasantly surprised and to be a little let down that it turned out to be just another typical MMORPG—albeit a very polished one.
In other words, it’s going to be a very good game but not that innovative dream game that too many of us keep looking for.
