Exploration should take a big part of the game. As the article said, it's not just all about war and combat. I would like to boldly go where no man has gone before. Spend time exploring far away, discover new worlds, new civilization, new technology.

On the ship interior part. I accept that there's only limited access at launch. But I expect it to be available within a year, with full ship interior wandering, ship/starbase crew quarters customizable.

That company got it all wrong. It's all about Role Playing game.

If I want to play a role of a nice blond girl, so be it.

If I want to play as a horrible female green 1-eyed 8 feet Orc, should I also prove my idenity??

This is all ridiculous

Good review. Atlantica is a nice game, if you like the combat style implemented. Fast strategic turn based. I quite like it myself, something different then the usual "click-monster-dump-all-skills-on-it".

One thing the review didn't mention too much is pvp. That's one negative point for Atlantica. There's either the "free" pvp in free league matched, where there's nothing to loose. This part is quite fun. But no real challenge then just try to win a match. Then there's the open-space pvp and hunting. That part really suxx in Atlantica. It's as if it was thrown into the game without much thought. Only the guild leader can hunt-pvp, and only 10 times a day maximum, with a maximum will. Jeez, how worst can it be?

What I see as game revenue (I'm not talking about sponsoring):

Monthly subscription or Micro-transactions (Item mall) or Pay-For-Play

I played a lot of MMO so far. Most in the start were with monthly subscription. Then more games became "free" mmo with micro-transactions.

But after several of these "free" games, I realize that I end up spending more in micro-transactions then a monthly fee. I know, micro-transaction are not mandatory to buy to play the game, but when the items sold give you 300% attack bonus, 500% heal bonus, 200% defense bonus, well... not much of a choice. And when I hear developpers saying that these items are also available in-game, it makes me laugh. Rare loot (days of hunting), or sold by npc for zillions coins. Sad. So I'm staying away now from any Micro-transactions games.

And I'm hearing Cryptic and STO is going to go for both Monthly subscription and Micro-transactions. Even more sad.

1. Item mall isn't bad like other "free" mmos. They provide some bonus, like mounts, wings, or potions (experience bonus and non-pvp attack/defense bonus). But it's not insane. And with the actual key event running at the moment, I actually got a mount too. Not the lateast top mount, but a good one (armed tiger), which was free with the event.

Please keep in mind, that pvp is mainly in free league in Atlantica. Hence, it's a choice to participate in pvp or not. But if pvp is your main goal, then it's better to have the latest top-notched add-on item-mall gear.

2. 1 Gig memory is a bit short. I have 2 Gig memory, and I found myself lagging when doing certain nation dungeons, because my pc reaches its maximum memory and starts swapping on disk.

If they really want to balance the double-monk build, they should prevent double-monk build.

By nerfing monks players using single monk are also affected by this change, which is unfair.

Same as Eve, you stay on your ship.

Star Wars Galaxies is possible to walk inside the ship, have multi players ship (1 person in gun turret, 2nd in other gun turret, 3rd at the helm, others inside repairing the ship or just having fun,..), and of course leave the ship and do land quests. But that game is suxxzor.

Stamina doesn't prevent anything, as said previously. It's a buff for a number of fights, once that buff is expired, you get less experience. The buff is refreshed each day.

Many games do the same in fact. It's just to slightly slow down the big hardcore players. I only once ran out of stamina, that's when I was farming lots of low level monsters to get some enchant boxes. So it's not a problem at all.

PVP

Most PvP is in what's called Free League. It's matches 1v1 against players the same division (more or less level) as your own. 8 matches per Free League, every 3 hours.

There is also PvP with country wars, but it's much less popular apparently. Shame. There you can hunt and fight players in the open space, which belong to country which you are at war.

I also had problem installing the game with corrupted data, it took me 3 downloads before I managed to finally get it installed. It's even more painfull when the size of the kit is 2GB.

I think the good installation I managed to get was from peer-to-peer download, forgot what name it was.

Played SWG from launch for 2 years. So far it's still the best experience and fun I had in all mmo I played, around 10 of them.

It's wasn't perfect, far far from it.

- bad points: rushed launch date, too buggy, combat balance (high buff, high armor, high heals, dizzy/KD, CombatMedic,...), too much grinding, lack of content.

- good points: player cities, customized housing decoration, skilled based from over 32 professions, crafting, crafting, and did I say crafting?

SWTOR is stil far from launch, but I doubt that it will be near SWG at all. If I want to play the original SWG again, there is ******. Sorry I can't name it, I was already warned on this forum not to.

Housing had to be introduced, it's almost part of any mmorpg.

But I really feel it was rushed together with book 11. The housing is far incomplete: limited decoration, no way to rotate any decoration, no free decoration spots (only on designated spots), no alt chars zoning possible. In fact the only purpose of housing is to extend the storage space a little. There's absolute no reason for others to come and see your house, other then curiosity.

Well, just hoping housing is going to improve with then next releases.

A big part of a mmo is the comunity and the trust we have in the developpers. What PE just did with G&H has just thrown that trust to a really low level. I just hope it can't get worse and only go better from this point.

It's a shame Gods & Heroes is cancelled, I was looking forward for this game.

Still, I think the game turned too much into a fantasy game with lots of mythological mobs. When I first saw screenshots a few years back, I thought it was going to be a pure historical roman mmo, but I was really wrong, so not too disapointed after all.

What surprises me, is that PE told us a few years back that G&H and STO were on different franchise and budget, and both teams had nothing to do between each other. Seems that was a big lie. They're killing G&H to concentrate on STO. Which brings us to the trust we now have in PE to develop a MMO: really low

What I don't like in PvP in the two last MMO I played (that's DAoC and LoTRO), it's that it's a RvR system, and basically based on raids. So the biggest raid wins, usually (I know, sometimes not, that's why I said usually). 40 people raid just smash 20 people raid. It just means, the raid leader need  to invite as much as possible and not be ambushed by bigger raid.

Well, I don't see this as much fun at all, and pretty boring. The one PvP I liked, was the Bounty-hunter versus Jedi PvP system in SWG. There were some improvment to be done there, sure. But the fun was intense, hunting, or constantly being hunted. PvP happened almost everywhere, limited number of players involved, win/loss bonus (well, no bonus for Jedi!)

I hope to see this eventually in ST:O if the Hirogen make it in the game at a later stage

I've started playing VCO when Beta day 1 started (22-december) until last week-end, so that's almost 2 months. I decided I'll post my review about the good and the bad.

Good:

- It's free. No initial fee, no monthly fee. Free to play.
- The graphic are well done. Even when zooming closely it's really nice. Except when sailing in high sea, where it's more cartoon-like.
- Open pvp on land and sea.
- Fighting professions, Resource professions, Crafting professions.
- Different kind of boats available depending of the type of player (warship, explorer, merchant).

Now the bad:

- Free game means many accounts per player, which at the end ruins the game.
- if pvp, then game is not free. Items for real cash are needed to be able to compete against other players, like insta heals items.
- Game is being translated from Korean to English, but badly. Many mistake in dialogue, sometimes hard to understand what it means.
- Lots of quests bugged.
- In game support is not helping at all.
- Skill system limited, only able to choose 3 skills per profesion.
- Only 2 classes: male, female
- Many afk players leveling Sea skills and land skills.
- Lots of lagg as soon as 20-30 players in one zone. Like Athens starter city which is annoying for new players.
- Ability for players controling a city to repeatidelly expell other players from many cities, so preventing even someone to do quests in those cities.

As a summary I would say it's a nice game to play considering it's free.

Really need to see the changes ingame before I make any realy comments. But looking at the shape of the new frog and blob, I'm sceptical.

I've been playing EA for some time, then left, then came back. Much less content then any other game, but pvp is real in EA ^.^

I hope PE keeps their heads up, and the same for the Publishers.

I know many people who just won't play SoE games anymore due to SWG failure, and so do I.

Take care.

I still have 12 days before my lat day in SWG. Account already cancelled. I will just log in and say goodbye to my (almost empty) friendlist
