This topic is stupid...everyone checks the games status. Thats' what fuels the fire.

I'll give you something to compare it to....i think pre-cu a heavy server had a cap of about 6k and there were lots. I heard that they lowered the cap on heavy servers because of the fast paced combat but i can't say for sure...OK now, on bria people were everywhere... coronet was packed, mos eisley was packed, MO on dantooine was packed, nyms starport..packed, bestine and anchorhead..packed, theed..packed, talus imp outpost was packed, the village was packed and when i say packed i mean packed. at  lest 100 people at each or in the area, you could pick up a group in like 2 seconds. not to mention player cities had lots of people grinding out of them. Anywhere you went there was someone else there, you could go to the middle of nowhere on yavin and find some jedi grinding. or the top of the map on endor and find someone to help you take on gorax.

I don't like hearing,  oh well everyone must be in instances. because i was there when kashyyk and mustafar came out and that was the CU and the crowds at those places were huge. Or i hear everyone is at restuss and it's a joke compared to nyms starport pre-cu. i check bria through trials and even with all the character transfers the population just isnt' there.. i go to restuss and maybe 50 people max. Mensix.. maybe 3... ME has a bunch and those static bases maybe have a couple...kashyyk no one.. so where are all the people? theed is dead, coronet is dead,  bestine is dead, MO on dant is dead, nyms is dead...i haven't been to the village yet but i'll tell you it wouldn't be like if the phase changed and we had to defend against the sith attack again.

you can only really guesstimate because SOE won't release numbers, but i'd say bria is about 1/6 - 1/10 of what it was. i don't really believe they are at 10k subs..but i wouldn't  be shocked if it was 50k, it's a dead game. It's fun if you  like playing solo, i liked the old game with the social interaction and the hustle and bustle of the galaxy.

Regardless, SOE has had a bad rep all along, i remember talking to a guy from work during my break in early 04 and i told him i was playing swg. and he was on about WOW and how SOE is a @#$% company. at that point WOW wasn't out yet but he had the magazine and the whole shebang and the rest is history.  They screwed us and we care, what's so hard to understand about that? Only $OE coutld screw up a star wars license.

MY PREDICTION CAME TRUE, many of us have predicted that around dec-jan the posts about 'Pre-cu arriving in a few months' start, this has happened for 2 years now, and will continue to happen. As you said, it's only the vets that are loosing, it's safe to say SWG vets don't have a great reputation when it comes to respect and maturity around the MMO world, most think they are a joke and as you correctly said;

They constantly spread lies and conjecture,

Your post was entertaining, thanks for the laughs :D but i do agree that this horse has been beat so many times it's just dust.

I'm just having fun with how an SWG "vet" such as yourself that started playing the game in December 2007 has enough experience of the game and deep rooted, first-hand knowledge of SWG's history can predict anything about it.

 

Anyways, the end result is there.

SWG is the laughing stock of the MMO community.

It's population is nowhere what it once was, sadly.

It's simple to google and find lots of things, and no, SWG isn't the laughing stock on the MMO community, people arn't playing WOW and vanguard and constantly talking about SWG, sadly people just don't care about what happened to you anymore, as your numbers decrease you have started to realize this.

While I agree that JTL is fun, it would have been much better if they had included some form of atmospheric flight.  Hell, just including cut away scenes showing your ship leaving the starport and entering orbit would have been enough to satisfy me.  instead, we got click the button, loading screen, you're in space.  It was quite a let down and not at all what I expected when JTL was announced.  I also believe they went way overboard when adding asteroids and other space debris in some systems, such as Dathomir.  The extra debris and graphics generate far too much lag if you don't have a great computer and, in space, more lag = death.

 

As far as the new content goes, meh.  There are other games on the market that have much more engaging and polished instances than SWG.  Granted, they may not be of a Star Wars nature but at least I've never had a problem getting me or my groups into them.  Nor have I had a problem with mob pathing, etc. while inside the instances.  SWG has been plagued with problems like these since the first instance was released in Rage of the Wookiees and those problems only got worse when ToOW hit the market.  I find it rather amusing that a company with a long history in MMO gaming can't even build an instance system without bugs while other companies who have only been in the business for a very short time can execute instanced dungeons flawlessly.

SOE doesn't build games they just buy out companies that do.

Yes, we all know SWG is a direct ripoff of Blizzards IP. Funny thing is i find a new ripoff everyday...like today i was bored in wow and decided to make a night elf druid... and i got a quest to kill webweavers in the night elf starting area. why didn't SOE just call them kashyykian spiders or something else? This is stuff i have caught so far. shards, glowy crap, the whole medic proffessions animations are ripoffs of various games.. mostly wow,  interface, icons, buffs, xp bar, beast master bar,  ferals (why not call  feral wookiees crazed or wild?), pvp vendors, and the biggest of all a linear level based treadmill based on 9 classess and talent point level progression with no multiclassing. wow and now swg are the only mmo's i've ever played that don't allow multiclassing even though multiclassing in most mmo's break your character. but w/e Soe dug their own hole and now they have to lie in it.

Sometimes i wonder if SOE just left the combat system alone and just fixed bugs and added content and fixes what swg would be like today. i bet it would be huge, most mmo players are sick of the wow model now and are looking for a more complex gaming experience and i think SWG could have provided that.

and WOW is still the best WOW model game.

To the OP .. Yep, i'm tired to death of it.   Just got the LOTRO trial....man everything sucks..if they slowed down combat and stuck to auto targeting ( and got rid of that fps targeting) in swg and gave proffs states like knockdown, dizzy, blinds....swg wouldn't be half bad. it's the lack of complexity in this generation of mmo's that is really getting to me..everything is instanced (hate em), can't drop a house, crafting sucks (too simple), cookie cutter professions, cookie cutter character customization...precu and cu had it all!

sometimes i think we are the unfortunate ones... we know what a game can really be like. my 8 year old is playing LOTR with me and he's having a blast, i'm having fun playing with him cause it's his first entry into mmo but..all i do is run around trying to find the guy with the ring over his head or question mark or exclamation mark... it's all the same bs. the regular grind is by far better than the quest grind...it's better for the community and better for your mind....at least you can talk to people while grinding regular, not having to look at your quest log every 5 minutes trying to find that needle in a haystack...

That won't work in north America, and if that's what it is it's absolutely lame.

Obraik, I don't post here often but to say its not like wow is ridiculous. Have you ever played wow? I'm thinking you haven't, I resubbed to swg after about a year and it get's more and more like wow everytme I log in. Leveling and Expertise is exact they have even went to far as to copy wow animations. First aid in wow is the exact same animation as bacta bomb or whatever that medic ability is that the red crosses scatter everywhere. So, you should really do some investigating on your own. Also, i'm pretty sure beast mastery was implemented again because wow has pets.

Anyway get a wow trial and see if you notice what a ripoff SWG is now to what used to be a original concept.

To the Op, try the trial. It's not the same for me but i can still have fun. If you like star wars it's a great game.

oh and guess where all the glowy crap from mustafar comes from........WOW

Even though it sounds like we live restricted lives it doesn't actually bother me and I do feel very safe, even in central London though I only tend to go there during the day (work and stuff).

But i disagree with the freedom of speech, I don't understand how you've got that impression from living here... Unless your a chav, no one listens to them
