The reason people don't play is because SWG has already been the center of attention for its buggy early release, current bug-ridden state, its paid expansion bait and switch, and the complete dismantling and rebuilding of the core game mechanics twice.  Each time this was done, player progress was thrown to the wind, except that the second time went further than the first.

After all of this happened and SOE promised never to do anything like that again, they revamped the game's entire faction system, and all players lost all of their faction ranks, pets and other perks; they had to start from scratch.  Also, all players that had tamed and raised creatures in one of the two earlier versions of the game finally got access to their pets again after a 2 year waiting period.  The catch?  They have to hatch and raise any and all of these creatures once again from scratch.  All the work they put into finding, taming and raising the pets: wiped out.  

Furthermore, much of the games "new" content has been SOE adding things back to the game, one small piece at a time, that THEY themselves removed from the game with their two game overhauls.  So people have been strung along with promises of new content, that is really just only a partial restoration of what they already had before.

People aren't in the dark about SWG.  They know all about this game, that's why many of the servers are so empty.

Putting boxes of the SWG starter kit in front of boxes of WoW is not what this game needs to be successful, but it does sound like a strategy that's consistent with how SOE has managed the game up to this point. 

Fix long-standing bugs? Honour player progress? Deal honestly and respectfully with consumers?  Nah, just put a box of SWG in front of the WoW box at your local video game store...amazing.

No new content? heroics, collections, player space station, new ships, storyteller, advanced decorating, GCW(armor, weapons, vehicles).

 

You clearly are in the dark about this game.

This is one player's idea, have a look at the rest of the forums, they are in discussion threads raisng issues such as bugs and content, fixing them. This is just another take. Honour player progress? when since the NGE have they ruined this? How havent the new developers dealt honestly and respectfully with customers?

Lets break it down shall we?

 

 

Heroics: A joke of a content upgrade if you can even call it that. Just a handfull of "raid" style mobs that just take a lot of people to take it down. Combat and rewards are all bland and "grindaholics" covering up back game play and slow slow slow slow leveling grinds.

 

Collections: A pathetic attempt at a stored "random" quested system that could be done within 1week of work using an online guide with mediocre rewards. -Weak

 

Player Space Station: Uh, LOL no.....those are not in the game. A player cannot simply build their own space station and store their ships etc etc. Nice try, but no....thats not in SWG nor do they support the mechanics for such a venture. If your talking about player "dock-able" and "walk-on-able" stations, see the nooby station that you probably missed by skipping the tutorial. It's not even a station, its just a zoned hotel with several elevator levels.

 

Storyteller: A minor addition to the game for people who like to roleplay and do "Events". An all around good idea, however, with as low as the population is now theres no point anymore. All this is used for anymore is pissing a LOT of people off by tricking them into thinking they are real spawns in the middle of no where, or blocking someone's house/harvy.

Advanced Decorating: LOL, not really sure I have to go into this, what a sad "tack" on to your "pointofendlessness" bud.

New Ships: WOW, a whole 4 new ships! A shiny new faction based POB that we have been shooting at for the longest time that would have taken them NO time at all to implement for player use. Seriously, they just took current NPC gunships and made a UI and walkable interior for them. No real new modeling or anything. O, and don't forget the pathetic Episode 1 Naboo fighter for neutral pilots :eyeroll:. This isn't enough content for even a quarter of a publish. I laughed my pants off when I saw they were promoting this as the "General" basis for the publish update. Aside from the pathetic star destroyer heroic quest.

 

GCW (armor,weapons,vehicles): NOT NEW, this is NOT new content. This has been in game FOREVER. What your most likely responding to are the GCW vehicles people finally got the rank and GCW points to purchase, even though they've been out since the GCW revamp (more like a dusting).

 

Any vet who knows SWG knows most of this can't even be considered new content (aside from the heroic encounters, whom are pathetic in their own right to enforce more hardcore grinding for mediocre rewards to cover for bad gameplay and poor decisions). Please, don't try to argue pointless things like this as we will only shoot you down with the cold hard truth called LIFE in x-SWG.

Ok, just allow my to plunge my hands into this post and rip it apart.

 

Heroics: you clearly know nothing about these. It's pretty much all new art aside from the city of mos espa. Each of them has various stages at which different things are required whether it be defending, clearing, tanking, using certain elementals, knowing what to attack, know what order to do things, knowing what professions to use etc etc. For example in the Tusken King instance, when liberating the city you have a choice of where to send citizens to first, different places will grant different benefits, such as sending them to the Med center will eventually spawn NPC medics who help and heal. This is no taken from WoW, many games have done it, its not a  "stolen idea". How is this grindaholic? for sure its nowhere near as grindy as Pre-NGE.

Collections: You're not meant to do grind it, you're meant to do it as you go along. Theres all different types from killing/ to finding/ to looting to completing certain tasks etc. Most of the rewards are damn good, quite alot of new stuff in there.

Space Station: Ok possibly the weakest part of my argument, and i shouldnt have used "player" but still its a step in the right direction to player owned ones.

Storyteller: Lets be honest, its not that minor, being able to build forts, put up NPC guards, as many as you like, all different types, choose the loot which you get when you kill them, add effects and sounds, have dog fight animations show in the sky. Population is fine actually, ive attented quite a few brilliant Storyteller events. And to the person who posted in first reply to my originaly post - gets you to do Pex's work? thats THE most pathetic argument ive heard on this forum - incase it hadnt occured to you some people like being creative and choosing how they do things, not to mention being able to do it whenever they want instead of having to wait for months. On top of this they added new stuff which Pex could never use. The events Pex does attend are all the better with his work and storyteller combined.

New ships: taken no time to add? the only thing that was already there was the skin of the outside, they had to create all the interior, do the art,  fix it all up, do all the weapons, make it fly etc etc Pathetic chapter? Huge new heroic, brand new art, 4 new ships, lots of new crafted parts, many bugs fixed, loads of collections added, space collections and rewards. Whole update of waypointing to make it much more useful and easy to use.

Advance decoration: it does mean something actually, it creates endless possibilities for decorators, of which there are many.

GCW: i was talking about the GCW revamp in the NGE that added the factional BARC, the weapon set, the armor, the system, the banners the skills etc. This IS new.

Expertise: I also forget to mention BM and the upcoming Droid commander.

Now, what do you consider as great content added? tell me what you think should be added? (that doesnt include - rollback! or proffessions) and also, which numerous content updates did we get Pre-NGE?

basically everything you've done in the nge in the past 2 years but i'll point them out.

 

patch 1: we got the nightsister cave, fort tusken, kimo town, factional bases plus tons of grinding caves.

patch 3: we got the warren, nyms stronghold, cries of alderaan.

patch 4: we got mounts and player cities, and the quest for RIS armor.

patch 5: we got vehicles and saber TEF's.

patch 6: we got themepark revamps, vehicle customization, perma death removed, trivia librarian.

patch 7: we got combat droids, pvp bh missions, vertical item movement, new mounts and parking garages.

patch 9: we got the jedi revamp, loot kits, improved hero of tatooine.

patch 10: we got the village of aurilla, the death watch bunker.

patch 11: we got jump to lightspeed, entertainer quests.

patch 13: we got vet rewards, 20 more space missions.

patch 14: we got secrets of the syren, GCW revamp.

patch 15: CU.......

patch 16: we got rage of the wookiees.

patch 17: we got multi passenger vehicles.

i'll just stop there cause it basically goes downhill. your a freaking tool man, play your nge if it's so good and stay off the vet forum.

and yes the trials of obi wan was prenge as well.

Look man, I didn't rant. I have misgivings about SOE just like everyone else here. But I am intelligent enough to be skeptical for the right reasons and not made up reasons like 'SOE is evil because they don't allow free transfers' - which is simply not true. The OP ranted, I responded with the facts, I am labelled the 'ranter'....again, all you do is expose your predjudice. Hate SOE for real reasons, don't start making stuff up.

ummm.....the OP needs to be more precise, he specifically said 'SOE  has never allowed merges', not 'SOE has never for Star Wars'.......sorry for addressing what he actually said.

I guess if the OP hadn't made such a broad statement, my response would have been, 'there has never been a need for free merges in that game, pre-CU/pre-NGE there was a dismal population in the game, not necessary - post pre-CU/post-NGE there was an even more dismal population really not necessary -like many others have said.

Blizzard has a  need for free merges in WoW, SOE doesn't - there's your answer.

Jeeze man, how clear do i have to be? This is a SWG forum and SOE is the publisher. Alot of people are concerned about low server populations thus the highlighted area..some people feel SOE should offer this but refuse.

i seriously LOL'd in IRL. This has got to be the most hurtin thing i've seen in swg. Obraik has one in his sig and if you go to the SOE forums there is some mando's wearing them. It's obviously the new item of the UBER LEET which even makes it more hurting. i can't believe they won't make a jetpack skin backapack but they will make that POS. What game is this? Just as SOE would not talk to us about rollbacks, we aren't going to talk to SOE about returning without classic servers.  Keeping the NGE as the only available game core is simply NOT a point of negotiation if they do, indeed, wish to bring back former players.  I think we've proven our resolve by now.  There simply isn't anything that SOE can do to the NGE engine that will EVER bring back a significant number of former players. 

The fanbois and Devs have been laboring under a delusion that somewhere there is a "magic bullet" publish that will suddenly end our objection to the game and bring us back.

Well, actually such a publish does exist.  It's called publish anything prior to Pub 25 (pre Pub 15 preferred) to a live server.

The NGE will NEVER bring you back more returning players than you continue to lose.   Get over it.

 

 

yeah i like pub 12.1 - 23. pub 24 is when the squad leader became way to overpowered with paint target. when a master rifleman/ squad leader can take out a master defender in 1 hit something is wrong.

News flash chief, you played the game for a period of time in a past incarnation, most NGE players have more "veteran" time invested into the game than you ever did or ever will, however those of us that actually stuck with the game and kept on playing are the real vets, not you pathetic whining saps that have done nothing but cry for SOE to rollback "your" game for the past 4 years.

You just stuck with it cause it's star wars... you know it sucks! you probably couldn't compete in the real game and have a crapload of items and credits and i understand, i know it's hard to let go.

 

I have to say something about  the highlighted part, none of those so called vets don't know how to play the game. they aren't explorers or crafters, try to find a crate of capped primus cores on bria. Its damn near impossible.  You have to special order them from a PRE-NGE crafter. Anything you need anymore for crafting has to be ordered. All those NGE vets have a combat fotm and a crafter grinding junk loot to sell power bits. The game is totally laid out for them through word of mouth from the elders or guides. We were the ones who created the galaxies, explored the regions built the cities and found out what to do, i swear that no character that played after nov 15 2005 ever created a metropolis. It's all pre-Nge  that means US > them

Hate to disagree but I will, combat is very similar to the CU now and its actully harder than it was in PRE-CU.  In Pre-CU days you got buffed by a Dr. and you where Superman for 3 hr's with the I win button pressed. The game is more challeging now than before maybe thats why your having problems.

 

Yes the ui is crap but that is why many many of us the UI mod that brings back the the PRE-CU ui for use.


Sorry but the changes with chapter 6 hurt the population more than it helped it..

 

It has nothing to do with an I win button it's about haivng something wothwhile to keep you busy while you wait for your friends/guilds to come online. Now instead of doing those things people just log. If you can't see that as bad for health of the game then you are blind.

Noone asked for all NPC's changed it but a vocal few. What most people wanted was NEW harder content not all the old stuff we were doing to pass the time made harder.

All it did was make the 12 million extra xp we have to grind from 80 to 90 now worthless since we are no stronger than we were at CL80 . Making peoples accomplishments and efforts worthless is what gutted the game int he first place.

add to that specials and heals still misfire and npc's still shoot through walls and floors.

You must not know how to play with the right expertise you can solo anything but gold elites which you are not suppose to solo but group.

 

A two person group can example BH and a Medic can solo Gold elites. So theres Plenty to do! Last Saturday I went Krayt hunting with a Medic friend and we killed 70 Krayts in about 2.5 hours.

It sure seems you want a easy I win button.


There was no "I win" button even with Doc buffs pre-CU. In fact, during pre-CU you needed a larger group than just two people to kill Krayt's for the most part. Killing 70 of them just goes to show how far the game has slipped. Krayt's were meant to be a rare thing and killing them an accoplishment. Now they're just a grind for a collection.

 

The thing is combat is nothing like it was pre-CU and mob difficulty is not what should have been adjusted. The continuing process of penalzing players for grouping, or limiting the amount of missions they can do, or giving players one huge grind to fill their time is not content. Even on the offical forums there are more bugs listed than ever and the more that's added, the buggier it gets. It's just a simple fact that you can not layer code, upon code, upon code and get a better system.

You make me Laugh PRE-CU Two people could solo Krayts same as we can now you must not have been in the right Guild 1 Jedi and a Master Doctor could do it.

 

In fact there where some that could Solo-Krayts Pre-CU but it took a long time.

Combat is better now after chpt 6 its just right.

maybe in the last 6 months of Pre-cu after all the resources spawned for good Armor, Weapons, Buffs, Stims, Foods, Drinks, Spice. Depends what point in time your talking about, the first year of Pre-cu was a lot more Difficult than the last. But yes you are correct.

Actually if i decided to resub on a clean account that's the profession i would try, the contraband sounds decent and i hear the melee smuggy's are alot like fencer. Regardless smugglers should be able to craft spice and slice.

Pre-CU was certainly a lot of fun, but it had its problems, unbalanced combat, bugs galore and a real lack of content.

I'm a problem solver by trade, I love playing SWG in my spare time and I when I see people having issues with the game I want to help them enjoy it as much as I do.

Jeeze badger......and what do you have now?  they can't balance 9 professions i guess reading from the forums BH is now the fotm. Guess what you guys could never understand, precu wasn't supposed to be balanced. everyone had a role. A creature handler/ bounty hunter could never take on a fully temped jedi but if they liked that template that was fine for them. Same bugs are still around....if not more! Also, Pre-Cu had tons of content, better Gcw, A Frs, tons of quest for things that people could actually make, and the best content of all.... the community. I was never bored in pre-CU there was always something to do and people to talk to, Nge i run around solo check out the same old places and log out.

If you remember near the CU ( if your talking about ranged vs melee balance ) it was almost just right. Nge they just took all the melee classes out and made jedi paladins and said " yes balance" I guess they are bringing back crafted schems but that's just another thing that they took out and put back in so they can look like hero's

No they haven't badger, that's just ridiculous. did players ask for a space revamp? did players ask for the collections system? did they ask for the village all shiny and new? the only publish in the last year that the players wanted was beastmaster and it wasn't CH. the bug bash was just a big vacation. They  still hear the cries on the forums for Pre-CU so they add a little something to keep the players biting..Meanwhile not adding the content the players really want like how long have smugglers been asking for content? after 2 years they add animations back. i don't want to go on anymore, what you said is total BS.

QFE! we aren't coming back. why would we pay for a game in beta. All i hear from the SOE forums is Nerfs, bugged instances and loot, and how were going to get the pre-CU vets back. They can't balance a game with 9 professions, it's just a stupid buff ,gcw grind, go loot...loot...loot.  I also hear that they are bringing animations back after 2 years ... 2 years what the hell is that? that game is full of bugs, has no polish, very low quality it lagggggs like mad and it's ran by SOE the player hating liars. Pre-CU is so much cooler without all the shiny new loots, at least you can take a freaking ATAT down. Do you fanbois even know what your playing?

this is on the duck TC @ 12am on a wed night, Pre-CU is pretty much back, combat wise. have fun in the NGE as more people leave in droves.

Any pre-CU vet will know what location that is, i don't know how many people that play the nge have ever been there.
