I'm doing the trial now, I don't know how long i'll last. Doubtful it will be 12 more days, this game is really showing it's age. It's almost like a 2d game these days. The controls are really clumsy and it took me more than an hour to get a playable keymap. Targetting just doesn't work in this game period! It hasn't since CU. It laggs like a fat bitch and there's still bugs there since launch oh, 7 years ago!  It's funny, i can drop into Dalaran in wow when there is 50 billion people and barely hit any lag, but i go to mos eisley where there is 10 people and i lag like a SOB. Fanbois will say it's my machine though...I'm up in space which is still pretty fun besides the tedious missions from the trainer. That's another thing, you never have to see a trainer in nge. I think that's wierd. You would think with the grind in SWG, sony would make you go way way out of your way to visit your trainer.

I just can't stand the clumsyness and the unatural feel of the ground game. It's really a bad game, i don't understand how someone could pick up the trial and buy this crap? It actually takes an extreme amount of effort to learn how to make your character mobile. Then targetting is a whole other ballgame. Also when i got to level 6 or 8 i can't remember. The auto level ability deal gave me a crap load of droid commands on my toolbar. For a new player this is completely overwhelming and ridiculous. Tab to target is just completely random, it doesn't cycle out, or in, it's just random. and to target with a lock is just a complete chore. All galaxies are light or very light except for starsider which i actually saw hit extremly heavy the other night. I haven't seen bria even hit medium. OH, and i saw a guy wearing a mandalorian top section with hotpants mando boots and wings on his back, yes wings like off of a bird.

I'm just shocked people pay for this game, i don't understand it at all. Everyone looks like they are in limbo from pre-nge, except for  a few new content pieces everything looks exactly the same. There is so many better games out there than this broken relic. RIP

I like these SOE hit pieces, It gets the 3 people that still play the nge really steamed.

Funny thing is we have moved on, most of us play polished bug free games, published by great companies. Your the ones that haven't. Your still playing the biggest chunk-O-pooh since 2005.

If you know what your doing you can level to 60 in wow anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month. if you don't know what your doing it takes much, much, longer. My advice is to get the trial and get as far as you can with that. then pick up wow box or the battlechest with tbc. That will last you a long time. You ca'nt get to northrend till 70 so either wait on wotlk or pick it up if you plan on rolliing a DK at level 55.

there's only a battlechest with original wow and the burning crusade. You have to buy wotlk seperate for now.

It's fail because the trial client is freaking huge. Need internet 2 for this download. They should make trial client smaller or get better bandwidth. i looked at the size and said Fak This!

It's not just the companies, it's the kids playing the games these days. I have 2 sons, one is almost 10 and the other is to young. Now, I am old enough to remember when video games first went to consoles. Really, the only time i ever played my atari was when it was to shitty outside to do anything else or I had a bunch of friends sleeping over. It was basically like that for me through the whole side scroll era, arcades were fun though. Same thing on commodore 64 and amiga.  Anyway, i won't bore you with my gaming history.

Here's the 21st century, it's all about instant gratification. I have spent 1000's of dollars on my kids gaming, 1000's, He's got all the systems. last year it was 360 and wii, this year it's ps3.  Think about that, when i was a kid 1 system would be good for 3 or more years. We have 3 pc's so he plays pc games as well. He won't start a noob out in WoW ( he loves wow btw) cause he has no money. If i give him 100 gold it's gone by the time he's level 12. I don't know how many damn games I have bought to hear him cry it's to hard, then find the cheat codes and play it for 10 more hours then it collects dust. These games are $80 a piece, I get furious but what can you do? you try to make your kids happy. He's doing pretty good with WoW, nhl09 and CODWaW but he never goes outside and plays. No kids go outside and play these days. He's in minor hockey but he'd rather stay home and nerd. he's in school but he'd rather stay home and nerd. Games and companies have gotten out of control. He basically has no friends that he plays with except for at school because all kids are like sociopath anti-socials these days. all of them do the same thing. Gaming has become the only form of entertainment for these kids. That said, they have this mentality that they have to be instantly uber. I try to tell him to" take your time" "enjoy the game" nope!  I try and make him figure things out for himself but nope! google! thotbott! there is always a guide somewhere. then when you've figured out how to be instantly uber, the game collects dust because you didn't take the time to have fun and actually invest in the game.

I think it's actually at the point of a crisis. we are so far away from tabletop games and mario brothers it isn't even funny.  The oldest generation that grew up on games is now a minority and the majority are kids. Who can't think for themselves, don't want to, and desire to be that instantly uber hero that everyone talks about in that mmo. when they realize that they aren't because they didn't take the time the game gets shelved and they move on to the next game. Companies are going to milk that for all it's worth. You can make the funnest game in the world but if it doesn't target the new majority it won't get anywhere. That's why games and companies suck now.

I am considering trying to get him into pre-cu and we'll see how that goes. Just to add my fear for the Old republic mmo, if you actually have to think and make decisions and it's not linear and you can't look up a guide. it will collect a lot of dust with this new generation.

Particularly in the case of a Star Wars IP.  Tell me what Star Wars fan wouldn't really really WANT to like this game?

You get a 7 day free trial, no strings.  Those 2 things are enough for ANY decent game to get off the ground.

Blizzard is the best, numbers don't lie. If blizz did the SOE route WOW would be in the same boat as the NGE and EQ would rule the sword and board. I've actually seen people get pissed after waiting for 3 hours for a free char transfer in WOW. You would be waiting sometimes 3 days for a paid transfer from SOE and you don't get all your stuff. There is no problems with wow, it delivers what they say, i've never ran across a bug only minor annoyances it's relatively lag free with 20k+ people on a server. They update the game consistantly as well as the hardware it runs on. Endgame is pretty awsome, pvp is great it's a competative  game, i don't think that most people that are hardcore pvp in the NGE could hack WOW. It's really alot more complex than "the people that don't play it but like to talk about how easy it is" would like you to believe. i've never had to talk to customer service but i know blizzard has listened to their players in the past and as far as support goes i've only heard of installation issues and don't ask for a free transfer on a weekend, other than that you have tools and you can do most things that need cs yourself.

TR has more subs than the NGE has, about 30K.  Yet they are killing it.

The ONLY reason the NGE wasn't killed well over a year ago is the LEC/Bioware sequel, LEC is keeping it alive only till the new game comes out.

Anyone who has ANY illusion of the NGE living past the release of SWTOR is delusional.

 

 

 

The games are very different, if anything TOR will draw from WOW/AOC/LoTR crowd. Nothing that has been released yet about TOR excites anyone I game with in SWG.

SWG will stay open and have continued development as long as it is profitable for SOE/LEC. And you have zero idea about how many subs SWG has, you can only guess.

WOW/AOC/LoTR is the crowd, no ones going after the miniscule amount of people that play NGE, no one cares. Wow alone has the crowd of the world series, superbowl and world cup combined. You NGE people are just the crowd of parents at a little league game.

This is endemic in the MMORPG moderator program.  They have no controls over it.  Publisher mods sneak in via a "wink wink, nudge nudge" arrangement.

Get a star wars d20 core rulebook, kotorO will be very similar. TKA are like monks in DnD, they will have a high ac and high saves and generate a type of mana.. like force or chi that happens everytime they hit something. using their chi they can give small party buffs or use it for finishing moves. they can use knucklers or wraps as well as batons and staffs with elemental damage. as well they will probably have stances based on elemental worship that will enable them to change their stats at will. They won't be able to wear armor. I think that Tka will be a prestige class to be added later because they are spread pretty thin in the stats department.
