Drastically changing a game has never done any good, point. WoW was already the easiest game outthere, like I said there was absolutely nada need to dumb it down even further. I'm sure as hell Blizzard will dumb down Catacylsm even more once all the 8 year Norrisjokes kids are starting to whine for nerfs again.

The easiest game on the market is CHESS.

It can be learned by 4 year olds... and your grandmother of 84.

Yet the CHESS  world champion and those who obtain 2200+ Elo ladder ratings are extreme champs.

Where is your Heroic 25 ICC achievement or rated 2200+ PvP title?

Of course: no where to be found.

Easy to learn, extreme difficult to come on top: that's the secret of all succesful games.

[Mod Edit]

Titles and achievements are an acknowledgement that you actually completed the content.  Their significance comes form how challenging the content is.  Getting a 10 pets achievement is not very hard.  Getting the Heroic ICC achievement means that you successfully completed some of the most difficult encounters in the game right now.

The fact that you might not like them does not detract from their difficulty.  I don't like climbing mountains but it would be silly for me to then say that mountain climbing is easy.

I agree with you. Just because there are some easy achievements, some of them require a lot of skill to get.

on the 460 which brand do you recommend?

EVGA with their Lifetime Warranty and superb Costumer Service.

I have to say that they new improved Water effects are quite nice for a Game Engine this old.

Can i please have whatever this guys having? cause thats some killer stuff right there.

Seriously though, fully VO is something new to the genre, so of course it's something they are boosting (closest we got to that was AOC and that was only the starting area) they are also boosting the storyline, i wouldn't worry Bw as a game companies has made many of great games, I trust that far more then one guy on a blog that may or may not be telling the truth.

Just to correct/inform you that Everquest 2 has had VO since launch. It was one of the main things they touted when the game was released.

Reese Witherspoon did a few lines for Antonia Bayle and Christopher Lee for Lucan D'Lere.

Yes it still has some faults like all mmos that are released, but it seems a game cannot stray to far from norm without being ripped apart.

If it isent made exactly in the same way as WOW it must be bad!

And no one here is comparing FFXIV to WoW. Nice way to derail the thread.

I ended canceling my subscription, people like to point out the UI but to me it was more than that.

* The inability to write a complete sentence because you are given a limited amount of characters (one might able to write an entire book in Kanji on the amount of space they give, but one can barely write a sentence in English)

* The inability to create new chat channels, tabs, change colours, lack of filtering (you can filter almost everything but not all)

* Unable to search for a specific item in the Market Ward. I understand they are changing the wards by giving different names and suggesting what should be sold there (the main word is suggesting, a person with a retainer doesn't have to follow SE suggestions at what should be sold on the Woodcutters Ward)

* For a game the emphasizes on Player Crafting the social tools are severely lacking. If I want to have something made, I either was countless hours searching the market wards, player bazaars or shouting to see if anyone can make me a simple item like Iron Nails. If there were a Trading Channel this wouldn't be a problem.

* The lag even on remote areas is still annoying, specially if you are a caster class. Switching from Active to Passive mode (or vice versa) is unresponsive at times. Like I'm running and I pressed to go back to Passive mode but it only took effect almost 30 seconds later. People that say the Lag will get better when folks spread around the areas and in levels are fooling themselves. Lag is present everywhere.

* The inability to do more quests after your initial 8 is to say the least annoying. If they want people to level horizontally that much, they could have made 8 levequests per Class and not overall. Instead folks resort to Grinding on mobs in obscure corners/caves and get overly aggressive when someone shows up.

These are just some of my issues with the game and of course what might not be might cup of tea doesn't mean others won't enjoy the game.

The server might be closed to new character creations since its currently full. Check the Lodestone to see which servers are open and those that are closed.

Race: Miqo'te

Crafting: Armorer, Carpenter. Harvesting: Botanist, Miner.

Class: Lancer, Archer, Musketeer (one can wish)

Server: Lindblum

City: Gridania

Even with all the misunderstandings, in the end I have no problem with it. The amount of Turbine Points one gets for completing deeds (15 points per deed completed), gives you more than enough TPs to buy all the SoA content.

If you using the free play option you get 3 character slots, if you purchased MoM you get 2 more, and if you purchased Mirkwood you get a additional 2.

Correction the additional 2 its NOT from Siege of Mirkwood but from the Adventurers Pack.

I stand corrected, thanks. I can see where people get confused. I am still unsure of all the differences between free and premium myself

I know what you mean. :)

I thought since I had purchased SoA, MoM and SoM that I would have access to all content, but it seems that I only get access to MoM and SoM quests and not SoA. Kinda bummed but its not the end of the world, since one can earn enough Turbine Points with Deeds to buy all the Quest packs for all SoA zones.

for its time wow was flawless release, you had bugged mining nodes, yes.. relog fixed, and even in that bugged possition you could do everything, it was annimation that was frozen, if i recall you couldnt mine again, not sure tho, but quick relog fixed that,

falling endlessly sure, annoying thing, but it was rare, something along the lines, once in a week, when we were playing 24/7 it felt like rare ,

... queues, never were that long  there were plenty of server to play and if you took most populated one, even if there was 50 emtpy servers , noone could fix your stupidity , i hate wow bashing in topics like this, it ran flawlessly  apart few minor issues.

I'm assuming that you really didn't play NA release of WoW.

Even though I enjoy WoW tremendously and played it on and off since its release and have Cataclysm pre-ordered, WoW release was a nightmare.

The server queues at least for Lothar (the server my guild chose to play in) was around 30 to 45 minutes for the first 2-4 weeks.

Getting stuck while looting where you couldn't do anything else because you were not only stuck in the kneeling animation but you were also waiting for the server to give you the items you looted. You couldn't do anything, the only way to fix it was to log out and log back in...which of course people dreaded doing that since we had the bloody queues to deal with.

I also assume you didn't enjoy the several days of server outages while Blizzard constantly tried to track down their Database/Server problems. Just by looking at my account I got several days of free game time from Blizz when WoW was first released.

Also the excuse of people taking the most populated server is idiotic, ALL servers when WoW was first released had Queues and were overpopulated.

Now, even despite all of WoWs problems at release, the game was A LOT of fun to play, it was quirky and charming. Even though people don't enjoy WoWs graphics, I find it Art direction wonderful. But like I said, lets not delude ourselfs in thinking WoW was perfect when it was released late 2004.

Regarding FF14, I find the game charming and it actually made me interested, so I pre-ordered the game. I know it has tons of problems and some of them are just downright annoying. For example, what's up with the chat system? If there's a way to create new tabs, I haven't found it yet. Having to use a patch or a program like Windower to play the game in a proper borderless Windowed, having also that same program to give me a hardware mouse and keep an eye out for the game client since it likes to set itself in Low Priority on my computer,  making the game sluggish!? I'm hoping SE will fix these problems but for now I'll still be there on launch day.

Maybe sometime after beta starts? It hasn's started yet. They had an interview at gamescon that gave their stance on beta. They will not start a beta untill they think they have a game that they are 100% happy with. Then they will allow players in to test what they are happy about and let players tell them what they think. So it could be a long time before actual beta starts. All they have done so far is send out invites for restricted testing only.

Beta has started already with a small number of Testers.

I'm guessing they will only lift their NDA closer to Spring/Summer of Next year, which is when the games is "supposed" to be released according to Bioware/EA.

EDIT: BTW there are some websites with some leaked screenshots and videos of Beta. Just google it around, since we can't post it here on MMORPG.com (against the rules)

You have access to the content but not the races or most classes if you don't buy the Race Packs and/or subscribe to the Gold Membership for the other Classes.

EDIT: BTW if I'm not mistaken you get access up to ToS but not Sentinel's of Fate (unless you own a copy of SoF)

I don't think that me and my better half consider ourselves addicts regarding the purchase of games.

We are collectors of games, we don't really purchase Digital Copies (I think the only Digital Copies that we have, might be a few PSOne Classics that were released on PSN). And yes we don't really have the time to play much of what we have, I personally have finished around 10 games this year and to be honest it would take me several lifetimes to probably finish all of the games we currently have.

Here's a small sample of what we currently own.

It looked very nice.

If this is their first Space Combat iteration at release, then I can only imagine if they decide to open Space Combat even further by giving you more freedom and perhaps the ability to roam the galaxy (non rails) in the future. Very excited about this title.

There's lots of reasons old players might migrate over to the F2P servers, even though it means rerolling, or paying $35 to copy a character. The primary one is server population. F2P will have a healthy population. And there will be plenty of people sitting at max level who want to run end game content. Another reason, their sub lapses for whatever reason. They decide to make a new character on the f2p server, 'cause hey, it might be limited, but you can still play. Third, peer pressure. Those friends you've always wanted to play, but never could get to commit to a sub. Well, they're playing now, but on the free server. You decide to reroll to experience low level content with them as they level.

I think....that you are grossly underestimating the number of veteran EQ2 players that want NOTHING TO DO WITH a Marketplace that sells items with stats.  And you're also assuming that people who have been playing with the same people for the past 5-6 years would have no problem just up and leaving their guilds.  Unless, that is, you're assuming whole guilds will be willing to migrate.  As if 350+ people can agree on ANY one thing....lol.  Right.

I suppose "half guilds" might move, but...when you're talking raid guilds....I even doubt THAT.

See, if I can think of a few scenarios, so can others. And don't forget that the only infusion of new players on the old servers are going to be from RAF. I have nothing against RAF programs, but they're only good if you know people interested in playing and actually staying. They're completely useless for those people just looking for something else to play, but have no one they know playing. EQ2 literally thrives on those "walk-ins" currently. But every single one of those people will be going to the F2P servers now.

Frankly, anyone who says that this server split doesn't affect them is incredibly shortsighted. And the ones essentially saying they don't want F2P trash playing on their servers are both shortsighted AND elitist

Who has called the f2p players trash??  Anyone?  I must have missed that.  There is a big difference in not wanting a server to go free to play, and not wanting the people that would prefer to play it as free to play.  To not want an item shop with paid stats items in it.....uhm......how exactly does that make anyone elitist?

People ARE entitled to have preferences in what they want regarding game mechanics, including the type of item shops they want, or even not wanting item shops at all.

Today there was a lot of talk on Everfrost about this very topic, and not one single person said they wanted to move to the f2p servers....not one.  Not in ANY of the chat channels 1-90 and no one in my guild either.  So.....I think it's rather hard to say for sure what's going to happen, that is unless you have a crystal ball or are reading tea leaves with great accuracy somewhere.....

But you do have to admit that over time people will slowly leave the game for greener pastures, don't you? This leads to how can the old servers capture new players? RaF simply won't cut it.

My only concern regarding the F2P is how SOE just decided to close the Trial on P2P servers and instead channel new players to the F2P experience instead of the 14 day trial. I personally think that 14 days to try a game is more than enough to make up someone's mind if they really want to invest in a game or not.

Personally, I would've prefered if they had just created F2P servers that any EQ2 Classic subscriber could access to it (without having to pay for EQ2X as well), also allowing F2P subscriber folks the chance to see on their list the old servers so that we might entice them, they wouldn't be able to transfer their characters from a F2P to a P2P server but at least it would give folks that started with EQ2X, a chance to move on to EQ2 more easily instead of having to worry about 2 subscriptions and which one to cancel.

In end my concern is not so much about F2P or P2P but how will the old EQ2 be able to get new players, because folks that might invest on their character in a F2P won't be willing to cancel EQ2X sub and move to EQ2 if the process isn't simple enough or if there aren't good incentives.

TL;TR, in short they could've just added the F2P servers to the same list as the older servers and apply the same restrictions they apply to the Exchange servers regarding character transfers.

If anyone in these forums saying it's a bad idea were in charge of SOE, it would fail harder.  Yes SOE has had it ups and major downs.  But I'll be damned if you say this is a horrible decision.

This is great they are letting us play alot of the game for free. If they wanted money then they would have made another expansion instead.  I am proud of them and this direction, good for them.  This will boost the population.

I have no problem with the game going Free 2 Play, its just how its being done. I would've liked if they had gone the same route as Turbine (no dead servers due to segregating P2P from F2P).

You are spot-on Daffid011. $OE doesn't miss a trick when it comes to milking the playerbase. I am sure EQ2X will be much more cash shop centered than Turbine's F2P business model, which is why it has to have it own servers.

I was wondering if a EQ2X character could transfer to the subscription servers, but it looks like the transfers are only one-way, which doesn't surprise me.

Character transfers are one way only from P2P to F2P Servers, which basically means the death of EQ2 Classic as we know it.

People are all happy and giddy that they don't have to play with F2P players, but the reality is much grim. SOE is removing the Trial from EQ2 Classic, which means no more NEW players to try EQ2 Classic, the only thing they will keep is RAF, but honestly who will go around Forums asking for a RaF key and wait when they can just quickly create an account and log on to EQ2X?

EQ2 Classic will surely die now. There will be no bleedover unto the old servers and people that play on EQ2X will no want to start over on the old servers since they don't allow character transfers.

khry, arent they guilds this time instead of LSes?  after all the quest thingies are called guildleves :D

Aren't they being called Companies this time round?

Edit: The Guildleve name has to do with the actual NPC run guilds like the blacksmith and fishing guilds...etc   They will offer up guild specific quests you can participate in; for them...at least that is how I'm understanding it from what I've seen so far!

Nope, they're still being called Linkshells, and then there is a new feature called Companies and while its vague info for now, to me it sounds more like a way for multiple types of LS to join and become as one so you're not holding several different shells or pearls in your inventory for multiple events.

So instead it would be like this, for my Linkshell ~ Eldritch Eponym you'd have a pearl, and for an HNM LS you'd have that pearl, and for a BCNM LS you'd have another pearl, and for your static XP PT, once again another pearl, and so on....or which I beleive you were able to hold like 99 pearls per character, which nobody ever did that I know of, but still thats a ton of very valuable space, even having 2-3 pearls is using up valuable space.  And to see the chat for each one you'd have to equip the other pearl leaving behind the chat of the other one and not being listed as present.

Anyway, my theory on how companies will work, which are being described as an advanced feature.  You could be in our LS and then join our Company and within that there would be several areas you could join, like above HNM, a BCNM, a static XP PT, a Sea or Sky etc. and each has their own chat channel that you could switch to exclusively, or maybe even combine the chat of each one in the same window so you'd still be a part of your main LS and keep up to date with whats going on while doing something with others.

On top of all this, you could also have other players from different LSs join too, but they'd only have access to the event section they applied for and were granted access too.  And it would be different for everyone, so I'd open my Company menu, and our LS roster is here in this channel, but over in this static XP PT channel are friends of mine that others may not know, and only I can see them.  Then in this other channel lets say there are 4 members from our LS in this BCNM one, and 2 players from another LS in there.

So essentially only those who have joined these other LS are viewable to you so you can see who may be online in those and may be wanting to get something started, all-the-while you can still see your LS chat, and other LS rosters and chat you joined for other events without having to change pearls.

So its almost like an Alliance between different "corporations" (Linkshells) in Eve?
