Then you were also fighting the same guilds in DAoC and the depth that added. You got to know your enemy. When you saw guild colors you had grudges. Alliances would form to take out the Realm that was over powered. ... you feel like everything mattered.

THIS.

This is what absolutely killed ESO for me. Everyone was anonymous, no name tags, no guild tags. PVP and PVE both felt like running around fighting unnamed and anonymous NPCS. You never even knew the difference between a  player and an NPC standing next to you. No immersion, no social immersion, no guild pride or realm pride worth caring about, no meaningful chat interaction with other players. It was almost as bad a SWTOR in that regard. I think I remember my friend adding me to a large guild in SWTOR, but no one ever even spoke in guild chat or interacted with any other players - I couldn't name one person in my entire guild. These theme park games are turning into nothing but solo games with a multiplayer feature.

It means the end of game hopping, players can (and should) pick a title and stick with it for the long haul, and quit always looking over the horizon for the next great savior of the genre.

Should give a number of smaller devs the opportunity to get their games off the ground and players may stick with them long enough to see them grow.

It also likely will see the exodus of players who never should have been targeted for in this genre, and we have a chance to see the return of proper MMORPGs.

Actually, things are finally looking up again, I am not looking for EQN to save anything.

One problem with this. Its not the players' fault for the game  hopping. The industry has done this to itself due to its cash grab business model of releasing unfinished, buggy mmos, and faux cash rape alphas and betas, with nothing more than basic beginner game content out at launch.

If companies continue with this unethical business model, I don't see how the game hopping and short shelf life of 3 months on most of today's mmos is going to magically go away.

Perfect new name for games tied to Sony.

Daybreak Games, cause SOE..."Dey Break" Games.

Some of us already knew SOE has been on a downhill spike for a long time. Personally I think it happened when they destroyed SWG.

It happened for me back in EQ2 when they added Pizza Hut ads IN THE GAME, among many other issues. The in game pizza ads were just the final straw for me. I swore off SOE mmos back then saying "never again."

Will have to see how the actual combat plays out but in general non-tab targeting tends to have favored strafe, circling opponents, wierd jumping over people and a myriad of other 'twitchy' moves over move and counter move based combat (i.e., paper rock scissors).

I do not want to have to 'break dance' to win at pvp.

I agree. I call them Jumper Spinner Tards in pvp. In other words: "i suck at pvp so im just going to jump and spin all around you to sploit LOS."

Waiting 2 years for an MMO is not long. I followed some MMOs for 4-6 years.

Hell, whats another 2 years? I've been waiting 2 years over and over again for the last 10 years, only to find fail after fail of buggy, themeparked, unfinished crap being released. I will probably be 50 by the time another good mmo  comes out, but I suppose it will be a good one after a good 20 year wait, then again, things aren't looking good in the industry so we shall see.

WTF? No kickstarter... no announcement of paid alpha? What gives?

Indeed they're doing everything wrong, the game's doomed to be a success.

Pretty much.

Lack of decay destroys economies and crafting.

What will make me say "No TY" to Crowfall?

I'm betting it'll be when it releases and falls short of just about every feature on their hypetrain laundry list. That'll be the moment when I officially say NO TY. Up until then, I'm sure it'll be the game of everyone's hope and dreams.

That seems to be how MMO's go these days.

"This is going to be the best game ever!"

"It's only Alpha, they're going to add X and Y and Z!"

"It's only Beta, plenty of time for changes!"

"Launch is still a week away, they've promised a miracle patch."

"OMG I love it, it's a breath of fresh air!"

2 weeks later

"Well if they had just done this and this and this and that, it would have been a great game. Thanks a lot Blizzard, you ruined the MMO industry. Also, you too Obama, for ruining stuffs."

Yes, really getting tired of this circular fail wagon that mmos have been launching off of for the last 10 years.

lets ad to this:

"It's only in alpha, but pay us 150.00 for a cash grab and gain awesome early access. We promise it REALLY is alpha and the game will get sooo much better in "beta" and after "launch."

Cut the BS Devs, we are tired of getting screwed over by this new business model of fake betas and fake alpha cash grabs and the constant release of unfinished and buggy games with no content. What ever happed to the old real beta testing where you had to actually apply, get approved, play for free, and actually TEST the game while submitting daily bug reports.

FTP, Cash shop rape, themepark rails, top down isometrics, no 3rd person, another unfinished game released too soon, with fixes and content that come far too late after 3/4 of the population have already quit  = Buh bai

Bring back good sub mmos that are finished, bug free and WORTH subbing!

Well just when I though the only MMO being made I was interested in was EQN, this comes and gives the MMOer in me some hope.

This is how it works. Wait 3 years for a decent looking mmo to come out, then suddenly the two you've been waiting for release near the same time and you're forced to gamble on picking the one that wont be fail. That doesn't guarantee they wont both fail. Hope! Hype!

My greater concern is will BD be able to do a better job controlling hackers, botters and other cheaters better than XLGames did with AA.

History of Korean made MMORPG's doesn't point to it.

From what I have seen of BD it appears to be a cheap clone of AA and other Asian games. I have seen the same trade run system, fishing system and other things in Archeage.

BD having another labor or crafting system, like AA, to cripple players is a huge red flag for me also. This will SURELY be bound in some way to a paywall, just like in AA. Pathetic.

As long as I played AA, I don't think a day went by when I didn't hear a person  (more like 50 ppl a day) complain about being out of labor, or having nothing left to do in the game because they were crippled by labor points. The whole game is filled with afk people who never log off 24/7, and don't play either, because they are in a constant state of attempting to afk-gain labor points.

AA was one of the best sandbox games with open pvp I have seen and it was 100% ruined by poor management and a cash shop whore cash grab business model. No WAY I will play this after seeing it is following an AA template.

How is the crafting in BD? RNGESUS lottery system?

Healing is supposed to be done with pots? How do these pots tie in with the cash shop either directly or indirectly?

Even a train wreck ceases to be interesting after a while and I believe ArcheAge has passed that time. It is time to move on and leave this game for the die-hard fans.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.  Trion just gave you the gift of freedom.  You shouldn't squander it!

if you keep supporting Trion's management of this game after reading about this happening to so many other people since the launch of this game, then you should learn something. If you haven't learned by now, I really can't feel sorry for you. You are just enabling Trion to continue their shoddy business practices.

So much wisdom posted on this thread.

It had the potential to be the breakout hit of 2014 but sadly will slip away to a small niche the same as darkfall and mortal online have.  It will be around a long time but will be reduced to only 4 or 5 servers in large part due to the poor management of the game.  Fans keep saying how 1.7 will save things but adding archum and TS trees to the cash shop so large guilds can get further ahead will only help to reduce the population even more.

 This.

Archeage was probably the most enjoyable game I have ever played. It had the depth, political immersion, open pvp and sandbox elements that all mmos lack today. It was mostly impossible to run out of things to do in the game.

Unfortunately all of its potential was plundered by Trion who used it as a cash cow, milking the last drop of cash out of it, while investing nothing back into it. Not even a skeleton crew of mods or customer service to handle the most severe and game-breaking issues players faced.

Trion itself removed most of its own player base early on with their mass bans of innocent players, and updates that broke the game for so many people who could no longer log in. I saw so many friends and players in my own guild disappear as a direct result of Trion's mismanagement of the game.

I belonged to a very large and successful guild since launch, and very, VERY few original players are still members. Everyone was either wrongly banned, rage quit after being robbed and scammed by sploiters, got tired of the never ending nose dive they took as a free player, got sick of grinding for apex that keeps increasing in price due to mass inflation, etc., etc. Large and successful guilds like ours are now made up of a random mix of a few new players, a few tenacious older players who keep holding on and made it through tolerating all of the sploits, and many MANY lost souls who's prior guilds disbanded due to lack of activity and the inability to retain members - they just get swallowed up by the remaining guilds.

Trion is the poster child for "How to Ruin a Great MMO Through Blatant Apathy and Mismanagement."

ESO needs to:

Reduce the amount of campaigns to ensure each map is packed.

Disable map hoping to some extent.

Ad realm pride or features that make pvp meaningful.

Builds need to be added where players can choose full support roles such as lasting buffs, cc,  debuffs and speed similar to Bard  or shammy classes.

Enable name tags and guild tags. This is a big one for me and some of my friends. As it is right now, pvp is just meaningless pew pewing at anonymous bodies that all look alike. You have no idea who you are fighting - it feels about as immersive as fighting a mass of random NPCs. (and before anyone says it: Yes, names are available on a tiny text format if you take the time to properly mouse over someone and sit there and read it - horrible. No one has time to properly mouse hover over everyone and read small names in pvp)

I really enjoy the veteran/other faction zones.

I am r6 and my leveling gets slowed down a lot due to the beauty of the zones and my urge to explore. There is always something to explore, caves, tunnels, waterfalls.....The zones are nice sized,, the world feels very large, and the graphics and design is completely immersive.

Each faction has a very real and distinct feel to it. My only complaint is that I would like to see more creative open dungeons, less cookie cutter, and larger sizes.

Has anyone seen any recipes over Vet rank 5?

My char is rank 5 now and the last new recipes I found were weeks ago, and that included just a few vr 5 recipes. I have seen nothing but repeats in the VR zones, and still nothing over vr 5 in levels.

Have they not added higher lvl foods to the game? What have you found in V zones?

Yep, been sitting on a loading screen in Cyrodiil for exactly 25 minutes as of right now...

According to Reditt the exploits can be accidental. How do they distinguish between accidental and intentional exploits ?

I can see how this would happen. Right after launch I had a full inventory before I went to bed and was power clicking provisioning foods and other mats into my bank and guild bank, not paying attn. I kept seeing the same items that I knew I added to the bank already, and chalked it up to being half asleep and logged out.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people duped random trash items, didn't even realize it and got banned.

I have also fallen through the world about 4 times.

Happens to me all the time. Just died 3 times on last boss today. I use zero add ons.

One thing I noticed that does trigger it is when I am running circles around a mob while casting at it. It will perma break all hotkeys.

Today I was just standing there not moving, casting though..so random.

Spamming the ' mail key a few times fixed it once when I tried.
