mostly swg emu. which is sad that it is the best true mmorpg out there right now, but it really isn't even close. |

i was talking about new player, brand new players trying to learn a game. you came back with an example of a pre made group of players who have been playing the game 10 years, doing well on a private server. i mean, seriously its like if we were arguing wether 5 years olds should all get trophy's in little league and alex rodrigez chimes in 'no handholding! i don't want to share my paycheck'. absolutely not relevant to the post you quoted.

One thing I would like is some sort of 'matching' system, or something to make it more 'new player' friendly so after the first few months, people can still reasonably pick up the game and play. As a huge fan and longtime player of DAoC, I'm sure most of you are like me..went off to play dozens of other games, came back, repeat. A lot of times I did that it was to a bad game, but I met good friends. I would bring them to DAoC, and they would get the hang of it for 20 lvl's or so..I'd sort of gear them a little bit for their first 'realish' rvr in thid.. and of course, a 1v1 fight or a small group fight would leave them feeling so outmatched they would be scared away. People permanantly in thid, buffed, potions, spellcrafted to perfection, just daily nonstop picking off the new playerbase one by one.

SWG had one thing not many (any?) games since had. a crapload of girls and housewives who played religiously and never killed a thing. housing was a big part of that(as was entertainers early on). not only could guilds build their own cities, but a group of 3-4-5 friends could make a pretty awesome little town with a couple houses, harvesters, stores whatever. in fact its the last game my old lady played religiously, she'd spend hours on her 'botique' making clothes, decorating it just so. |

i enjoyed the dancing and musicians in swg and don't see the harm in them at all, but i think you might be looking with fond eyes at it a little. 1. for some people maybe they were a social hub, but for the most part it was people grinding the skill afk. if there was one person in your group of 20 that was actually at their computer when you needed training, it was rare. 2. the buffs were scripted, no one was actually sitting there solo buffing hitting buttons to flourish over and over. i'm not sure you could get many people to sit there for hours doing it in todays 'rush through content' mode. 3. since the old days of swg(pre cu) and daoc(pre toa), a lot more people have come onto the mmo scene. a lot of different type of people than the ones that used to join a 'multiplayer' game to talk, play, and get along with *gasp* other people. now most of the people are there to either kill people less experience than them, or powergrind for the best loot/money so they can tell everyone how much better they are.

Mark Jacobs/CU - Please read - Stealth mechanics like DAOC please

this may be the most ridiculous thing i have ever read. did i miss where someone suggested that rogues not only should have timed invisibility, but also lose their daggers/bow after 30 seconds? that made no sense and sounded like a flaming pile of QQ and for the record, im fine with steath the way it was in original daoc. yes you can afk for as long as you want usually, just not anywhere stupid. |

kickstarter does make me think its going to be subpar technically, sort of like a diploma from wvu isn't really the same thing as a real college. another bright idea that won't pan out IMO, but being that daoc is my favorite game of all time they will get money out of me and many others. |

Dark Age of Camelot 2.... It is time
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/28/12 5:20:05 PM
Seems it would be pretty easy to make a game in a very similar world, with the same realm names etc, without any legal problems. Hibernia wasn't a name invented for a game, it's a classical Latin name for Ireland. Albion, the oldest known name of Great Britian. The places in the game are real places for the most part, or at the very least prt of very old mythology. EA doesn't own that. The Secret World doesn't own the 'IP of the world' just because they use real world places. |

New Played thinking of buying!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/10/12 1:24:58 PM
bottom line, you have to try it to know. some people love it, some hate it..
i am not faulting anyone for liking it, but i didn't last my entire free month. i enjoy crafting , the crafting here is very stupid, you don't even do it actually. i enjoy diversity and being a little unique, there is none of that here. i enjoy open worlds and having a choice on what to do when i log in. here there is no choice. you go do the quests and missions that match your level until you level up. |

another none of the above. First was Lineage 1 'beta' back in early '97. played for a long while. then short stop in ragnarok then another long while in DAoC, whith a side sting in SWG because its the only mmorpg my wife ever would play. (horrah for non-forced socialization and not having to kill stuff 99% of the time) |

only redeeming quality is the story if your into that, sort of. after my first char i started a couple more..figured for the story. the sidequests once out of the starter zone were repeated and i got pretyt bored. realized if i want a story, there are a lot of great books i have not read yet. |

likewise, fine game for some i guess but its to the point i am bored and here instead of playing. |

im not sure you have ever played an elder scrolls game. 10 hours in most people won't even start on the main quest yet.. |
