The truth is out there :P (Oh and before anyone calls me a fanboi try and think, if you can, of this: a fanboi became one for a reason...) |

Does customer support matter? No not at all, it would if there were compagnies producing poor quality products but why would they? Customers wouldn't stand for it now would they? If the quality of the product is poor(ie a buggy game), people would not buy it right? "Welcome to the desert of the real"
To all you people here who claim there's no need for proper customer support; thanks you are the reason gaming compagnies can still get away with delivering buggy software and provide little or no support. They feed you shit and being the good boys n gals that you are you swallow, because they are right and we are wrong...
Wrong! Just because you've never needed CS doesn't mean it's useless. Customer support is(or should) be there in case something bad happens. It's not just the GM's that deal with the in game issues like being stuck in the geometry, it's also about subscription problems (double billing, unable to unsub...) Good customer support is also about tracking and fixing bugs and keeping servers up and running and backing up user data.
How would you feel is your favorite WoW, EQ2, CoH/V, L2 or DOAC server crashed and burned and the most recent backup of your character was made 3 months ago? Bad customer support is something you won't notice until it hits you on the nose. Only when you start bleeding (GH inventory deleted, Character reset to lvl 1, Account locked out, creditcard overdrawn because you were billed for 10 years in advance) only then you'll realize just how important customer support is. You may think reporting a stuck position is whining but if CS is done right it will result in a bug report and the more of those end up with the dev team the easier it'll get for them to analize and fix the problem. Maybe you don't mind an item disappearing when you zone and not report it but it might be a bug affecting more players.
I've had the luxury of experiencing really good customer support and the bad luck to see it sacrificed for financial reasons and I know how rare it is in the gaming industry and until we gamers demand proper support it will remain just that: rare. So kudos to all you people who'll accept even the poorest support, the gaming industry thanks you... If we keep putting up with the bug ridden games the industry dumps on us, if we keep accepting the same old excuses for their failure to comply with the quality standards that appy to just about any other product on the market nothing will change. Asking for customer support has nothing to do with whining, hell, it doesn't even have anything to do with customer support! Where it all boils down to is repect. Right now the gaming industry doesn't respect the gamers enough to improve the quality of their products and who can blame them for years we've been buying and playing buggy games. We may have been complaining but we were only too eager to pay for the next beta build released before it was ready. Of course before we gamers can demand respect for the industry we first need to respect ourselves! We can't expect gaming compagnies to take us seriously until we do... And on the off chance that someone in the industry reads this and acually cares (slim I know but one can hope right?) Good customer support isn't just an expense it's respecting your (paying) customers

General: Snakes on a Mouse: Copperhead Review

I'm sure this is obvious but in case it isn't; have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? ( be sure to reboot after uninstalling) Also the mouse has to be plugged in during installation. use the latest drivers from their website and if you're really couragious you might want to try updating the firmware (v6.20 atm) Keep in mind that the Copperhead uses a decent amount of power so make sure you connect it to an USB hub that outputs at least 200 mA One other thing the 1000 hz polling rate is CPU intensive so using it at system boot might not be such a great idea. I've found that some (onboard) USB hubs have problems with older firmware versions causing the driver to sometimes not detect the mouse even though it is connected v6.19 fixed that problem for me
ps if you want to run the Copperhead under Vista I'd recomment using at least firmware v6.19

The OP has a good point; I'd resub in a heartbeat if GF would finally add something new and shiny. It saddens me to see one of the most beautiful gameworlds turned into a treadmill because dev's can't figure out how to create interesting gameplay but instead give you 250 (per skill!) of levels to grind.
GF may think they have plenty of time but i'ts not enough to have the prettiest 3D chatroom on the web they need to provide a reason for being there. Hoping the great community will keep them afloat while they try to find out the absolute minimum amount of effort on which an MMO can survive before a player exodus sinks it isn't good enough. |
