Totally agree, I think the queue for the Headstart or Launch is a good idea to prevent server crash, and to maintain the race balance. Imagine if there is no queue and everyone log in which can cause server crash, or race balance which one side have 70% asmo VS 30% elyos. Or how about Ncsoft make 40Server then later on and merge them.
Yup, a great idea. If you only have a few hours a day to play and you have to play them during rush hour spending all that time in a queue, knowing that this is partly due to people setting up shops that sell nothing just to stay online, then you surely get a warm and fuzzy feeling about your fellow men in general and NCsoft in particular. In those circumstances you feel very grateful they've managed to keep the servers lag free and stable and even managed to balance the races because even though you won't see any of it for those in game alls well and that's the only thing that counts right? Having lag, server crashes or an over populated race doesn't really matter much when you're in the bleeding queue now does it so stop defending a compagny that doesn't know how to count. This isn't about 10, 15 minutes or even half an hour of waiting this is about HOURS and HOURS of waiting in line, hardly a minor oversight especially taken in account the pre-select two days before the servers opened.
Oh and did I mention I haven't recieved or payed for my box yet? Now if we knew for a fact all of this would be over after release then it might not matter that much but their failior to fix the problem in a timely fashion does not inspire confidence. And what if they do open up new servers on release day and you find yourself on a server that's still over populated and you still have to wait for hours will there be a free transfer to one of the new servers? |

Ah yes reason, that's good lets all be reasonable about this after all there was no way NCsoft could have expected this. Couldn't they? Their beancounters knew exactly how many pre-orders were sold, knew all too well how many people created a character during pre-select and on which servers yet they had no idea? I'd say fire the beancounters but then what do I know. And the reasonable people tell me not to complain as this is what happens with every launch of a triple A MMO and I can't help but wonder: "Really? Are there people stupid enough to accept this?" But then I get in the back of the queue foaming at the mouth until, maybe, the great god of MMO's lets me in and I maybe get to play a few hours before I have to log off again to get some sleep. No where except in the gaming industry could this type of behaviour survive and even be profitable. No one outside the gaming industry would get away with such blatant disregard for their customers. No one outside the gaming industry could break promises on such a regular basis and still expect to hold on to their customers. We gamers must really enjoy the punishment...
And now it's day 3 of the european headstart and waiting times still average at around FOUR AND A HALF HOURS this does not bode well for release.
and the worst part is that Aion messes with my mouse drivers causing my cursor to hide in the upper lefthand corner of my screen everytime I Alt Tab to the desktop afraid to move which means I can't do Jack while waiting >:(

Originally posted by Adam1902 I'm sure there's exceptions for companies like GameGuard, and you'd probably have to agree to something upon using GameGuard saying you accept that you allow them to do this, or maybe since the company is in Korea, it's not illegal because the software is based in Korea. Honestly, if any of this was illegal, GG would be dead already. A program as widespread as GameGuard being illegal? Nah, something would of been done by now if it violated any sort of EULA (by Microsoft). Actually Microsoft had initially secured the kernel of Vista64 against the kind of intrusions game guard is being accused of but Mcaffee and symantec complained about that to the EU which forced MS to open up the kernel to third party software. According to mcaffee and symantec closing the kernel would make it impossible for them to provide virus protection for Vista64 and eventhough other security compagnies clearly stated this wasn't the case MS decided to "unplug the hole" and allow for kernel hooks like the one GG is now using. Now while I'm not sure how this is dealt with in Windows 7 I strongly suspect that should MS try again to close the kernel, and make programs like GG impossible, new complains would surface once again frustrating MS' attemps to make the windows OS more secure. |

Originally posted by rwmiller Sadly that's not the issue. If I were to team with a spanish or romanian player how would we communicate? I could speak dutch and they'd speak spanish or romanian would that work? English as a lingua franca would work but only if both parties speak it if not then there is a problem. It's not a question of wanting to make people feel unwelcome it's about being to interact with people and as I've mentioned before english speakers will end up on the "unofficial" servers will they be able to communicate with others on their server? Will they be a minority? Will they be forced to reroll on a different server?
What's more these "unofficial servers" will have an effect across all servers. Speak spanish on the "unofficial romanian server", you might be told to go to the "unofficial spanish server" etc.
As for those that choose not to speak english on an english server well....you mentioned community spirit? Setting yourself apart from everyone else through language seems to me to be seriously lacking in said spirit.

Lost? Why I'm perfectly happy where I am thank you so very much.
But seriously if you think I'm wrong please explain to me why this is the case because frankly I can't see how you could enforce your "unofficial servers" when everyone who logs in will see only the official ones except by sheer numbers resulting in bullying those who will not or cannot conform to your unofficial standards.
I replied to you just above, gues you were editing your post. How on earth can you think I'm trying to "enforce" anything? Can't you read at all???????
You may not want to enforce anything but the result of a large community of spanish speaking players may, and probably will, be a lot of spanish chatter in the chat channels of one of the official english servers. Other players, who as mentioned several times before, will go by the official designation will roll a character only to be confronted by a community they cannot understand and that is unwilling or unably to use the official server language. These people, who rightfully asume that the server they chose is an english server will now have to decide wether to stay and be seriously hampered by the fact that they can't understand their team mates or leave and reroll on an other server.
Honestly I'm not sure if this whole mess could have been avoided but it might create a problem.
Mind you if, as suggested earlier in this thread the spanish, and other language communities, create their own channel the problem might not be all that obvious (untill you try to team).
What bothers me most about all of this is that servers that are, as far as NC-Soft is concerned and according to the server selection, english will become inaccessable for english speaking players due to large groups of non-english players communicating in their own language feeling justified by the fact that someone told them they're on the "unofficial spanish/romanian/whatever server" . Whether you want a territorial struggle or not that is what this will boil down to and whether or not you organized this or not you were the one instigating it here on MMORPG.com, and in doing so you may have given others ideas that have aggravated the problem. |

one more lil oversight in this whole sorry affair is the fact that NC-soft has announced to want to maintain balance between Elyos and Asmo an other thing you'll be sabotaging by your little territorial struggle... less conflicts? you've only made it worse!
edit: and in the likely event you're too damn stupid to understand what I mean by worse: Officially it's an english server people who never bother with forums and just want to play the game will go by that. "Unofficially" it's the spanish server. Both of these groups will think it's their server, in realy life we call that a war... mind you only one of them is right and guess what, it not the spanish....

It's just to know where those communities are deciding to go, so 1) If you belong to one of those communities you will know where to find fellow people 2) If you for any reason don't like a community you can avoid that server. Less conflicts. All happy. Originally posted by altairzq Communities and countries without an official server are organizing to chose an unoficial server to play all together. I know the spanish community is most probably going to Castor, so that's the server to go if you are spanish-speaking (or to avoid if you hate those discussions about what language should be used in general chat and so on). Anyone know where other communities will be heading? We could make a list here.
Spanish: Castor

Its better than nothing no? No!
Let me elaborate: What the hell are you going to do when someone rolls a char on the unofficial spanish server and asks a question in english? Tell him/her to speak spanish or leave as this is the unofficial spanish server?
As I said in a previous post officially there are the french, the english and the german severs and the people who don't read forums will simply choice from those three options meaning that the "unofficial romanian community will still have to put up with the "english please!" comments on their "unofficial romanian server" since officially it's just one of the english servers.
Are you lot really that arrogant that you believe you can make decisions for an entire community? |

What can I say? Has any of you geniuses considered that perhaps not everyone that is going to play Aion after release reads this forum (or even the Aion source forum for that matter) and that all they will see are the french, the english and the german servers and make their choice accordingly?
p.s. I would, however, love to know where the people go that play to ruin my day because I'd like them to be as far away from me as possible (preferably in an other universe) |

Maybe, just maybe, a sorcerer is unbalanced in 1on1 PvP but that's not what the whole Massively Multiplayer Online thing is about now is it? Despite what your ego might tell you there is a chance there's nothing wrong with the balance in Aion and you just suck at PvP or possibly the sorcerers you've dueled are simply way better at it then you are. (I know at least one sorceres that's easily beaten)
It probably won't matter but I'll say this anyway: The whole point of having different classes is to add some tactics to the game play. (tactics being to use your brain instead of just rushing in everytime you feel like hitting things; it's stuff like that, that got the neanderthal extinct)
Edit: btw I'm not saying this because I have illusions about my perfomance in PvP... |

How do you combine "unbiased"and "Little Korean" in a single review? |

Are we really giving $ to this kind of incompetence 2 weeks from live?

Ah, the voice of reason.
Is this not an mmoRPG? I like to indentify with my character and when she's gurgling like a baby's first attempt at english I find that rather hard. To me gameplay concerns the whole package and that includes sound. Besides this is a beta perhaps they'll listen and at least give us the option to either mute the voices or use the ones we had in CBT (can't hurt to try right...)
Edit: btw are the Aion Beta boards open? |

Sigh, either you did not patch, have not played OB yet or have not payed attention. the voices currently in game are NOT your typical asian/anime voices; they've been "westernized". The voices in CBT were, as you so lovingly describe, asian/anime voices and I happened to like them (the female ones at least, the male ones not so much) |
